In other great Fleetwood Mac news, the iconographic ‘RUMOURS’ CD (certified Diamond (R) signifying sales of over 10 million units by the RIAA) is scheduled to be re-released as part of a special CD/DVD boxed set on Reprise Records in conjunction with the tour dates. The boxed set will include several songs from “Rumours” in their original demo form along with unreleased tracks recorded during that time period and never-before-seen DVD footage of the band from the “Rumours” era.

Swedish metallers VIOLENT DIVINE today release their new single ‘Blackheart’, lifted from their upcoming new album, In Harm’s Way. The band have also released a video for ‘Blackheart’, which can be seen below.
Violent Divine will release In Harm’s Way (Misty Recordings) on January 31st. The album is mixed and produced by Pontus Norgren, guitarist of Swedish metal act HAMMERFALL. It was a natural choice to work together with a highly acclaimed sound engineer and musician like Pontus Norgren, with his long experience of both live and studio and who’s previously worked with bands like EUROPE and YNGWIE MALMSTEEN.
Violent Divine and Pontus Norgren share a lot of musical influences like OZZY OSBOURNE, MÖTLEY CRÜE and ACCEPT, just to mention a few. The new album In Harm’s Way is a massive hard rock album, mixing heavy metal, glam and classic hard rock, featuring 12 strong tracks in the true spirit of Violent Divine.
Tracklisting for In Harm’s Way: ‘Let Them Burn’, ‘Pain’, ‘Blackheart’, ‘Days Of Sorrow’ ‘I Am’, ‘Love Is Divine’, ‘End Of Times’, ‘Master Of Reality’, ‘Happy Ever Afterlife’, ‘Skin Deep’, ‘This Love’, ‘Vampire Empire’.
Violent Divine – formed in late 2005, unanimously praised for their 2006 debut album by critics and fans alike. The album spawned 3 singles: ‘Rush You’, ‘Let’s Go’ and ‘Levitate’ and made great impact in numerous international radio stations as well as in major Swedish radio stations. International press said: “Rock and roll is back and going to be louder and more alive than ever before and twelve orgasmic tracks of sex, sex and rock n fuckin roll.”
Since this past summer when I started writing reviews here at HRH there has been so much good music that it became impossible to keep up with everything that was being released. Now I am going to try and catch up with some of the albums I missed. I can not think of a better band to start with than H.E.A.T. of course they are another kick ass Swedish band, but where the majority of Swedish bands are following the sleaze glam route H.E.A.T. decided to follow a different path from their counter-parts. This six man band from Stockholm decided to take a more melodic approach to their music in the vein of such bands as Europe, Giant, Unruly Child, Bangalore Choir, and Hardline. There are 13 tracks but 12 actual songs on this album and every one of them are stellar.
Vocalist Kenny Leckremo reminds me a lot of former Unruly Child vocalist Mark Free mixed with Bangalore Choir’s David Reece thrown in with his approach and delivery of the songs. His voice is powerful without being overbearing to the music, I don’t think he has even began to test the limits of his vocal range. The twin guitar attack of Dave Dalone and Eric Rivers also stand out both could stand their own ground against many players both from today and the past. Keyboardist Jona Tee probably made the best impression on me out of anyone in the band simply because he playing is outstanding and it enhances the songs instead of overpowering them which tends to happen quite a lot with melodic rock. Bassist Jimmy Jay and drummer Crash round out the band and are an extremely capable rhythm section that keep everyone else tight and in line.
After a short intro everything gets started with “There For You” which is a great song to kick off the album, as it is a prime example of what H.E.A.T. has in store for the listeners on this album. Straight up perfect arena rock anthem, a great solo from Dave Dalone, and a very solid performance from the rhythm section that will have you tapping your feet and bobbing your head as you sing along. Second track “Never Let Go” follows the same recipe with the same great results.
If H.E.A.T. are able to hit the arenas here in the States “Keep On Dreaming” will have everyone flicking their Bics and lighting up their cell phones for this outstanding anthem. “Follow Me” slows things down a bit with it nice piano entrance before it picks up at the chrous with soaring vocals both lead and background “Straight For Your Heart” is another kick ass song with a great performance from the entire band but drummer Crash really stands out with his playing. “Cry” and “Feel It Again” are two more outstanding songs “Cry” is mid tempo while “Feel It Again” is a more rocking song. “Straight Up” starts out with a slow burning bluesy groove to it before it kicks in at the chrous. “Bring The Stars” besides being my favorite song on the album is another arena ready anthem with a great performance from both Jimmy Jay and Jona Tee.
“You’re Lying” and “Feel The Heat” finish up the album on a very strong note. For any fans of the bands mentioned above this album is an absolute must have but for fans of just straight up arena ready melodic rock you can’t go wrong with purchasing this album either. I got H.E.A.T. to late for them to be included on my best of ’08 but they will definitely be on my best of ’09 list.

Guitarist Michelle Meldrum (Meldrum, Phantom Blue) will be honored at the 2009 NAMM in the main lobby of the convention center Thursday, January 15th at 5:00pm. For more on the tribute please click here: www.namm.org/library/articles/memoriam-tribute-industry-leaders.
On May 18, 2008 Michelle Meldrum, leader of the band Meldrum and former Phantom Blue guitarist, was rushed to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Burbank in critical condition. She passed away late afternoon Wednesday, May 21, 2008 as a result of a cystic growth that had restricted oxygen and blood flow to her brain rendering her brain dead.
Meldrum had just completed writing and recording the bands soon to be released album with drummer Gene Hoglan, along with the new lineup Michele Madden (vocals) and Laura Christine (bass). The surviving band members plan to release the album later this year in tribute to their fallen band-mate.
Those who knew Michelle recognize that she lived every moment for the music, and was regarded as both an exceptional guitarist and a nurturer by her associates, friends, family and son.
Meldrum, 39 is survived by her parents and three year old son, Jake Thomas. Her family and band members appreciate all the support that has been shown over the past few days through this trying time. A memorial tribute benefit will be announced in the following weeks.
Michelle Meldrum was born on Sept 28, 1968 in Detroit, Michigan to a family of musicians and actors. At 13, Meldrum moved to Los Angeles, California and started her career in music by forming the thrash metal band WARGOD with drummer Gene Hoglan (DARK ANGEL, DEATH, and STRAPPING YOUNG LAD). When WARGOD disbanded Meldrum continued her search for a band and become both co-founder and lead guitarist in all girl metal/rock band PHANTOM BLUE. PHANTOM BLUE released their self-titled debut album on Shrapnel Records as well as Roadrunner Records, and eventually landed a deal with major label Geffen.
Once PHANTOM BLUE disbanded after a successful run at fame, Michelle Meldrum moved to Sweden and formed her current band MELDRUM. After many triumphant tours with such acts as MOTÖRHEAD and BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, she reunited with Hoglan in 2006. Hoglan had appeared as a special guest on the MELDRUM album prior and played several events. Inspired to once again collaborate, Meldrum moved back to America where she and Hoglan began writing the aforementioned third MELDRUM album together.
Papa Roach will release their forthcoming fifth studio album, Metamorphosis on March 24th through DGC/Interscope Records. Co-Produced by Jay Baumgardner and Papa Roach with additional co-production by James Michael on six of the tracks, the new album conjures a vicious, vibrant intensity that is raw, relevant and ready to rock. The multi-platinum selling, Grammy-nominated Northern California quartet is back with their album of the decade.
Papa Roach is Jacoby Shaddix (vocals), Tobin Esperance (bass), Jerry Horton (guitar) and new member (ex-Unwritten Law’s) Tony Palermo (drums). Since bursting onto the scene in 2000, the band has toured the world and churned out Top 10 multi-format Billboard hits including “Last Resort,” “Forever,” “Getting Away With Murder,” “Scars” and “To Be Loved,” three of those on the last release. There is no shortage of classic songs on Metamorphosis either. The album’s first radio single, “Lifeline,” combines an AC/DC-style fret run with an undeniable chorus.
Fans got their first taste of the new songs from the album during their live performances on Crue Fest 2008 and with a free download of the viral video release for the song “Hollywood Whore” which the band released in November 2008 as a gift to long-time fans. The video has had more than a million views.
Metamorphosis captures Papa Roach’s incendiary live energy on record. The album engages a full-on rock n’ roll assault fueled by the band’s punky raw energy, catchy guitar riffs and irrefutable melodies. They have delivered the most entertaining album of their career; it’s the culmination of their devotion to performing live and always giving their fans what they want while staying true to themselves.
Leading up to album release, Papa Roach will embark on a national tour alongside Buckcherry, Avenged Sevenfold and Saving Abel, kicking off on January 28th in Salt Lake City. This follows a half year of non-stop touring in front of 700,000 people that included the main stage on Motley Crue’s Crue Fest and a recent autumn run with Staind and Seether.
“We bring it live,” says Shaddix. “When you come to one of our shows, it’s like the last tribal experience. Playing shows every night is what we’re built for. We make a club feel like an arena and we make an arena feel like a club. We’re going to tour our guts out and bring our music to fans all over the world.”

The Votes for Best Rock Festival of 2008 was a close one. In fact less than 50 votes seperate our Silver and Gold Award winners.
Rocklahoma has become one of the United States largest music festivals, attracting people from all over the world. The 2008 lineup included, Bret Michaels, Jetboy, XYZ, Triumph, Extreme, Armored Saint, Queensryche, Tesla, Firehouse, Jackyl, RATT, Sebastian Bach, Kingdom Come Night Ranger and many more bands. The festival was plagued by terrible weather in 2008, but it was still very much a fan favorite this year.
The voting on the last day of the Reader Awards was intense as fans from several different bands were logging their votes on the last day. Two bands rose above them all, and Jaded Sun nearly claimed the Gold Award in 2008. Nonetheless, Jaded Sun’s new album “Gypsy Trip” is a great new disc, and one you should definitely check out!
Less than 200 votes separated our Silver and Gold winners for Best New Album of 2008. Tesla’s Forever More was my favorite pick of 2008, as was many of yours. “Forever More” is easily one of the better albums in the Tesla catalog. It is one of the must own records in 2008.
Congratulations to the Silver Award Winners! Stop back tomorrow for our final awards day, and find out won the top honors in the 2008 Hard Rock Hideout Reader Awards!

Global Music are proud to release to you the artwork and track listing for the upcoming album from Irish left-field rockers, Therapy?.
The band comment on their upcoming release: We’re really excited about getting these tracks heard and can’t wait to play them live. We’ve spent enough time away now – it’s time to get involved. There’s always the risk of getting lazy and simply churning out what’s ‘expected’ or a ‘safe bet’ but that was never an option for “Crooked Timber”. Making the album was a great experience and now it’s time to get back in peoples faces.
Their new studio album, Crooked Timber, was produced by Gang of Four’s, Andy Gill, and is due out March 23rd 2009.

Les Claypool’s Latest Masterpiece to Release March 17th
OF FUNGI AND FOE on Prawn Song Records
Les Claypool will release yet another brilliant work of art, OF FUNGI AND FOE, March 17, 2009 on Prawn Song Records.
“OF FUNGI AND FOE” is the expansion of material Claypool has recorded over the past few years for the video game “Mushroom Men” and the motion picture “Pig Hunt”. Being inspired by these 2 projects Claypool decided to keep creating and turn it inot an album. The song Mushroom Men on this release is a more in depth version of the theme song from the video game. Additionally a jam session with Gogol Bordello’s charismatic front-man Eugene Hutz turned into the track “Bite Out Of Life”.
Since his last album release, 2006’s “Of Whales and Woe”, Claypool has been busy with his films, scoring other’s films and video games while having fun out on tour. This album is a collection of songs inspired by the projects he has been working on over the past few year.
Long acknowledged as one of rock’s leading bassists, Claypool began branching out from
the alt-rock sound of Primus in 2000, starting Colonel Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade, courting the jam band audience and beyond. Selling over 500,000 cd’s since then under a few different band names (including Oysterhead with the Police’s Stewart Copeland and Trey Anastasio of Phish), Claypool put out the career spanning DVD “5 Gallons of Diesel” in 2005 and the live tour DVD “Fancy” in 2007.

The Never too Late EP is an awesome introduction to The Answer. Not only does it have some of the best songs from the band’s debut album, “Rise” (which was never released in the United States) it also has a new tune, “Highwater or Hell” which is pretty darn good too.
The DVD included with this CD, has all of The Answer’s videos that they released from Rise, as well as some pretty cool interviews with the band.
This is a lot of music for such a very small price, and is a great prelude to The Answer’s new album, “Everyday Demons” which is due in February.
You can find the Never Too Late EP at most retailers for roughly $6.00. It is worth every penny. Go get it!!

The album’s first single, “Dirty Little Girl,” which features a guest appearance by Avenged Sevenfold’s Synyster Gates, is already getting spins on radio stations around the country, and is in regular rotation on Sirius XM Satellite Radio’s “Octane” station. A video for the track was recently shot in at the Slide Bar in Orange County, CA with Nate Weaver (Against Me!, Taking Back Sunday) at the director’s helm, and will hit the TV and Internet airwaves within the coming weeks.
Anyone who was watching the Dallas Cowboys/Baltimore Ravens football game on the NFL Network on Saturday, December 20 might have heard another song from the album, “Our House,” during the broadcast. Fans should check local listings for details.
Never losing momentum after the break-up, Hart landed a label deal with Island/Def Jam and began working almost immediately with songwriter Zac Maloy on what would eventually become BURN HALO’s debut album. Between May and October of 2007, Hart made week-long treks to Tulsa, OK to write and demo with Maloy. “I knew that I wanted a clear-cut rock ‘n’ roll band, which is something I had not had in the past,” Hart says of the music.
“My vision and my brand of rock ‘n’ roll without having to compromise on any of the songs or any of the material. I wanted to make a very straightforward rock album, something that had commercial appeal, but also something that had a classic, vintage mid-‘80s throwback vibe to it.”
Hart recorded the album from October to November of 2007 with Maloy as producer, laying down the tracks with an army of skilled studio musicians, including Nickelback drummer Daniel Adair, former Jane’s Addiction bassist Chris Chaney, guitarist Neil Tiemann (who now tours with “American Idol” winner David Cook), and Avenged Sevenfold’s Synyster Gates (who appears on the “Dirty Little Girl” and “Anejo”).
In the studio, Maloy was particularly helpful in getting the best possible vocal performance out of Hart. As he explains, “I really felt like he was able to grasp what I wanted to do and where I wanted to take this. From a producer standpoint I feel like he really knocked it out of the park. As a vocalist he was able to bring a lot out of me instead of having me go through the motions and just get the part right, emoting a little more than I have in the past. He was really able to pull a lot of character out of my voice.”
“I think this is a real statement album for me,” Hart continues. “Anyone who is familiar with me and my past is going to be able to get this record. They’re going to understand why I made this record and that this is the record I’ve been wanting to make.”
After the album was completed in early 2008, Island/Def Jam elected not to release it, leaving Hart with the tough job of finding a new home for his project. Nothing felt quite right, though, so BURN HALO’s manager Bret Bair formed his own label Rawkhead Rekords and partnered with Warner Music Group to release the record. Hart spent much of 2008 finalizing the line-up of his touring band–which he hopes will help write and record BURN HALO’s next albums–with Aaron Boheler on bass, Joey Sin on lead guitar, Allen Wheeler on rhythm guitar, and Ryan Folden on drums.
BURN HALO’s new ensemble has already been racking up tour dates with bands such as Avenged Sevenfold and their next jaunt will be with Escape The Fate and Black Tide starting February 5 in Pomona, CA. A summer tour is already in the works and should be announced in the coming weeks.

The voting in the first annual HRH Reader Awards was nothing short of amazing, especially in the last week of voting when over 20,000 votes came in. There were three categories this year, Best Rock Festival, Best New Band, and Best New Album of 2008.
The Bronze Award Winners are listed below!
In 2008, the Sweden Rock Festival held in Norje, Sweden June 4 – 7th of 2008, held a huge roster of bands including Blue Oyster Cult, Judas Priest, Disturbed, Def Leppard, Fastway, Ace Frehley, Lizzy Borden, Gottard, RATT, Tesla, Whitesnake, Testament, Poison, Joe Satriani, Triumph, and several other bands. 2008 marked The Sweden Rock Festival’s 17th year. The Sweden Rock Festival received the third most votes in the 2008 Reader Awards.
The voting for Best New Band of 2008 was amazing, and the lead changed hands several times over the last few days. An honorable mention goes out to Airbourne, Pop Evil and Million Dollar Reload, who were all in the hunt, but were unable to crack the top three in votes.
Badmouth was one of Hard Rock Hideout’s Top Albums of 2008, and many of you must have thought they were one of the best new bands. Badmouth received over 5,000 votes to earn the Bronze Award in the Hard Rock Hideout 2008 Reader Awards.
The competition for the Best Album of 2008 was our most heated category in 2008. Honorable mentions go out to Motley Crue’s “Saints of Los Angeles”, Airbourne’s “Runnin’ Wild” and Metallica’s “Death Magnetic”. All three albums received a bunch of votes, but only three discs rose to the top. The voting was fiece and the results were very close. Buckcherry’s “Black Butterfly” receives the Bronze Award for Best New Album of 2008.

A few months ago I reviewed Badmouth’s debut here on HRH, and I’ve been a big fan ever since. Badmouth finished the year tied at #3 on my album of the year list, which I would say is pretty good for a debut considering the other 3 bands at the top of my list have all been around for 10 years or longer. If you haven’t heard Badmouth you are missing out big time because songs like “Pedal To the Metal”, “Last Train”, “And Take Your Toothbrush With You” are serious ass kickers. Of course when the opportunity came to interview bassist Chris LeMon and lead guitarist Randy Joy I jumped at it. In my opinion Badmouth is one, if not, the best new band of 2008 and I have a feeling they are going to be making a lot of noise not only in 2009 but in the years ahead too.
HRH: For the people that may not be familiar with Badmouth can you give us a little bit of the band’s history?
Badmouth: Well, it all started in the summer of 2007. 5 friends who wanted to make GREAT music, tired of the music scene of today. We wanted to write music close to our hearts…the kinda music we grew up on. We never discussed how Badmouth should sound it all came naturally. All 5 of us have different influences from Punk, Country, Powerpop to Heavy Metal…and all that mixed together became what you hear on our debut album.
HRH: “Rivethead” is my favorite song off the album and one of the best songs I’ve heard this year. Is there a story behind it?
Badmouth: The song is based on a book with the same name….but I guess people can relate to those lyrics in different ways.
HRH: Do you think it will be released as a single?
Badmouth: Yes, hopefully it will be released as a single in March/April.
HRH: I’ve been looking on youtube for videos from the album, but I haven’t been able to find any. Are there any plans to film any videos for the singles?
Badmouth: We haven’t done an official video yet. There is a “Heartbreaker” video in the making, our latest single (the cover of the Pat Benatar hit from 1979)…that will be a video just for the internet and hopefully it gets its release by the end of January…And then we plan do a video of “Rivethead” to be released as the same time of the single, a video that will also be released to the Music Television, so hopefully everything will work out and you got something to look forward too…
HRH: The sound of “Last Train” and “And Take Your Toothbrush With You” really remind me of Backyard Babies would you consider them an influence on Badmouth?
Badmouth: Backyard Babies are a great band, but wouldn’t say that they have influenced us directly. We’re the same age and have a lot of similar influences so guess that’s why you can hear that…also we live in the same town, Stockholm….influenced by the streets..lol
Badmouth: Like I mentioned before we have a lot of different influences. I think the one band we all have in common is Guns’n’Roses…then also Kiss, Led Zeppelin, Alice Cooper,Elvis, Ramones, Tom Petty, Johnny Cash and Cheap Trick have probably influenced us all in different ways…
HRH: Paul Sabu produced the band’s album how did that partnership come about?
Badmouth: Paul heard some of the demos we recorded in the fall of 2007. He loved the sound and contacted us asking if we wanted to work togther…and we said..YES!!! Its been a great experience. Paul is a great, great guy and its been an honor to do this album with him, he really took the best out of our sound and made the album sound exactly like we wanted, and its an impressive career he has behind him and he has worked with a lot of our influences like Alice Cooper and David Bowie…
HRH: With so many Swedish bands getting attention from fans and record companies is it hard for a band to stand out and make a name for themselves?
Badmouth: Guess its the same whatever country you are from…its hard today to get the music out if you aren’t one of the big bands that can put millions into promotion. We’re doing this an independent way and working hard ourselves. I think a lot of bands sit back and relax just cause they have been signed by a label. Badmouth ain’t nothing like that! We’re working hard 24/7 to get the word of Badmouth out there…of course we hope our music will stand out. We don’t think we sound like anything else today, not saying that we sound original but we sound like Badmouth, we feel that on our album we have 10 different songs and sounds and not 1 song with 10 different titles…then of course it’s up to the listener to decide but hopefully they feel that way too..
HRH: A lot of the bands coming out of Sweden seem to be heavily influenced by the 80’s Hollywood Sunset Strip days is the club scene like that also?
Badmouth: No, I wouldn’t say so, but I think a lot of people would like it to be…actually the club scene for rock ‘n’ ‘roll in Sweden is pretty small and there are a lot of bands struggling to get gigs and attention…We’re trying to avoid the current “Sunset Strip Revival” cliche trend.
HRH: Do the bands support each other or do they keep to themselves?
Badmouth: A lot of bands support each other but also a lot of bands keep to themselves…guess its the same over the world…
HRH: What are some of the bands coming out of Sweden and Scandinavia you like or would like to go out on the road with?
Badmouth: There are a lot of great bands, well one band we talked about earlier of course, Backyard Babies..We have a great band in Sweden called Marvel…and a lot of other bands for example Fatal Smile,The Poodles, Bullet, Danger, The Scams, Hammerfall…And hopefully we will be on tour soon…We are READY!!
Badmouth: Yes, this is a contest called “The Nordic Challenge”. It’s being arranged by MySpace and Sweden Rock Festival…For people outside of Sweden, this is the biggest festival in the country with more than 35,000 in attendance, and its 90 bands playing over 4 days..and ofcourse Badmouth wants to play at this festival..So we entered this contest with the aim to win. And we made it thorugh the first round of voting which took place between december 12th til january 6th, a couple of hundred swedish bands were competing from start and now there are only five left, and Badmouth is one of them. The final voting round is between january 9th – 23rd So if you’ve got a MySpace account you can vote one time per day and myspace account, and if you dont have a account, sign up now, and if you got several accounts vote from them all!:) Its 5 bands from 5 regions in the finals (Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland & International) and you can vote on one band from each region, so if you support another band from another region you can also vote on Badmouth and vice versa….
HRH: What are the band’s touring plan as far as the U.S. is concerned?
Badmouth: The plan is to play and tour as much as possible, right now we have nothing 100% confirmed but we wanna play everywhere! Hopefully we’ll be able to get to the States in the fall. We would love to come there and meet our American fans…
HRH: Are there any plans for Badmouth to play any of the festivals here in the states such as Rocklahoma, South Texas Rockfest, or the Rock Gone Wild Festival?
Badmouth: We would love to play them all…so the people doing the bookings for the festivals are more than welcome to contact us…and they will get a killer show from one of the rising bands from Sweden…And of course we are in discussion with a lot of festivals around the world, hopefully we will get something confirmed soon…Can’t think of a better way to spend the summer of 2009..
HRH: Is there anything you would like to pass on to the Badmouth fans?
Badmouth: Yes, THANK YOU!!! YOU FUCKIN’ RULE!!! We have the best fans and we are so happy to be doing this, and believe me…this is only the beginning…so help us spread the word of Badmouth, demand us on the radio and at the venues in your town…Can’t wait to meet you all on the road…2009 is the year of BADMOUTH!
Note: I received an email from Chris informing me that all voting for the Nordic Challenge has been suspended and the final bands winning the slots to play the Sweden Rock Festival would be selected by jury now instead.
LOVE SAID NO singer Erik Rogers has resurrected his previous band STEREOMUD and plans to tour with the group this spring. STEREOMUD is currently in the studio working on a brand new full-length CD that will be released later in the year.
STEREOMUD‘s current lineup is as follows:
Erik Rogers – Vocals
Billy Grey (ex-FOZZY, SICK SPEED) – Lead Guitar
Dave Urban (ex-25 TA LIFE) – Bass
Rodney Beaubouef (ex-STUCK MOJO) – Drums
STEREOMUD was an alternative-metal-hard rock band based out of Georgia and New York. The group released its first album, “Perfect Self”, on Columbia Records in 2001 and a video for the song “Pain” received airplay on MTV2. The LP went on to sell more than 200,000 copies and hit #5 on Billboard‘s Heatseekers chart upon its release in May 2001. The lead single, “Pain”, peaked at #8 on the Mainstream Rock chart, and“Steppin’ Away” entered the Top 30 on the same chart, taking the album to 142 on The Billboard 200 list.
STEREOMUD‘s “End of Everything” landed a spot on the WWF “Forceable Entry” compilation album released by the World Wrestling Federation in 2002. Other bands on the CD included DISTURBED, KID ROCK, ROB ZOMBIE, CREED, SEVENDUST and DROWNING POOL.
STEREOMUD returned two years later with the second effort, “Every Given Moment”, which matched its predecessor’s Billboard chart position and spawned the Active Rock Top 30 hit single, “Breathing”. In April 2003, Columbia Records cut the band’s tour support and dropped the band, leading to the band’s split in July 2003, a mere three months after the release of “Every Given Moment”.
In addition to Rogers, STEREOMUD‘s original lineup included bassistCorey Lowery (ex-STUCK MOJO, currently in DARK NEW DAY), guitaristJoey Z. (LIFE OF AGONY), drummer Dan Richardson (ex-PRO-PAIN,CRUMBSUCKERS) and guitarist John Fattoruso (BLACK WATER RISING).

Dusk is the third and final album by Badlands. This disc was recorded in 1992 before the death of singer Ray Gillen. According to drummer Jeff Martin, the songs on “Dusk” were demos for the third Badlands album. Atlantic Records didn’t like the direction of the songs and later dropped Badlands. The incredible thing about this album is that the songs were recorded in one take. They haven’t been touched up for this disc. For this album to be captured in this fashion, it sounds really good.
I don’t think the songs on “Dusk” are quite as strong as first couple of Badlands records. The music has more of a raw feel to it than some of their earlier stuff. I also think the songs might be a tad bit heavier on this disc.
When Ray Gillen uses the upper range of his voice, it sends shivers down my spine. Gillen was an amazing singer who never got the recognition he deserved. His vocals on this disc are spot on all the way through “Dusk”.
I have always enjoyed the guitar work of Jake E. Lee. His playing is exactly what you would expect. It is awesome as always. Because of the raw feel of the music, some songs feel like a Jake E. Lee jam session. Some people will love it, others will want a little more structure to their songs. I think it sounds pretty cool.
It isn’t very often when you actually hear a bass player play his instrument instead of just trying to keep the rhythm with the drummer. You can hear Greg Chaisson cutting loose on the bass all over “Dusk”.
Some of the highlights are the rocking tune “Healer” and “Sun Red Sun”, the Hendrix like “Fat Cat”, the bluesy “Lord Knows”. “Ride the Jack” sounds like it could have been a very good left over track from the debut disc.
As a whole, I am a fan of Badlands. They always seemed to create some cool bluesy metal that seemed to be well beyond its time. “Dusk” carries on where the first two albums left off. If you are a fan of Badlands, you should certainly pick this up.
You can find “Dusk” at NEH Records at this link.
Ray Gillen – Vocals
Jake E. Lee – Guitar
Greg Chaisson – Bass
Jeff Martin – Drums
Switzerland’s Sideburn has been dishing out hard rock music since the 90’s. Shame on me, for not checking them out before now. Their new CD, “Cherry Red” is a rocking affair that will likely appeal to fans of AC/DC, Airbourne, Rose Tattoo and Rhino Bucket.
Opening track “Gimme The Way” is an upbeat rocker that immediately gets “Cherry Red” firing on all cylinders. (Check it out in the video below!)
“Six Feet Under” is a catchy tune that will likely have you wanting to crack open one of your favorite adult beverages. Pierrehumbert growls in this song are reminiscent of those by Udo Dirkschneider from Accept.
If the rock and roll gods were kind, “Cherry Red” would be an instant hit for Sideburn. This song flat out rocks!
“Ghost of 1980” is the coolest ode to Bon Scott since Million Dollar Reload’s “The Last Icon”.
Roland Pierrehumbert has a course voice that reminds me a lot of RATT front man Stephen Pearcy. His voice works well Sideburn’s style of pub rock.
Sideburn has released a real winner of a disc, with “Cherry Red”. This disc is full of unpretentious, no frills hard rock. Just the way I like it!
If you are a fan of any of the bands I mentioned above, you need to hear this disc. You can purchase the Mp3 downloads of Cherry Red here, or the CD, through CDBaby.com. You can preview songs off of Cherry Red at ReverbNation!

The KEEL “Debut Reunion Concert” will take place in Hollywood on Saturday, January 31st. The location for this historic event will be Club Vodka at The Knitting Factory. Tickets $18 advance, $20 day of show – to purchase tickets, visit http://clubvodka.com, CLUB VODKA at The Knitting Factory, 7021 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles, California 90028 – venue phone: 323.463.0204
2009 will mark iconic metal band KEEL’s 25th anniversary, and the passing of two decades since the original lineup played on stage together. Unlike most of their contemporaries, none of the members has ever performed as KEEL since 1989.
Ron Keel, guitarists Marc Ferrari & Bryan Jay, drummer Dwain Miller along with Geno Arce (Ron’s long-time bassist) are preparing to perform again for the first time in 20 years. “It would not have been right without these guys,” expresses Ron Keel. With the high volume of requests for the band to reunite, the members felt the time is right to deliver the show fans everywhere have been demanding: a KEEL reunion.
In 1985, “The Right To Rock” became the fastest-selling debut album in A&M Record’s history. Selling over 2 million albums the band was proclaimed the Best New Band by Metal Edge and Circus Magazines.
The title track was a hit on radio & MTV and remains a staple on VH1 Classic, in addition to the group’s subsequent hits “Tears Of Fire,” “Because The Night,” “Somebody’s Waiting,”and “Rock & Roll Outlaw.” They developed a reputation as one of the genre’s most entertaining live acts, opening for heavyweights like Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, and Van Halen amongst many others.
Plans are for KEEL to reunite at a select number of festivals and showcase dates in 2009 to perform all their hits and classic favorites in celebration of 25 years of rock n roll history – visit the web site and MySpace for details.
