Alex Beyrodt’s Voodoo Circle – S/T (Release Year – 2009)
Do you know who Alex Beyrodt is? His name may not ring a bell with most hard rock fans, but it probably should. This criminally under rated guitar player has been playing in the bands Sinner and Silent Force for years. His neo-classical style of play is quite similar to guitar god, Yngwie Malmsteen.
When I first got word of his new side project with David Readman from Pink Cream 69, I knew I would have to check it out. I have been a fan of Readman’s for years, so picking this CD up was pretty much a no-brainer. Alex Beyrodt’s Voodoo Circle is fleshed out with Beyrodt’s band mate from Sinner, Matt Sinner on bass, keyboardist Jimmy Kresic, and Mel Gaynor (Simple Minds) on drums.
If you have ever listened to Pink Cream 69 (shame on you, if you haven’t), you know that David Readman is one of those singers that could sing the phone book and make it sound good. His vocals augment the music from a very talented group of musicians on this disc.
Alex Beyrodt is the true star on this disc. His masterful six string work is the driving force behind these fantastic tunes. There are guitar parts in these songs that are so good, that they will raise the hairs on your arms. Yes, they really are that good. Thanks to the keyboards of Jimmy Kresic, Voodoo Circle’s sound has a classic 80’s metal feel, in the vein of such acts Whitesnake & Rainbow.
There really isn’t a bad song on this disc, and guitar fans like myself will certainly eat it up!
