coldspell-infinitestargaze In 2008, when I first heard Coldspell’s demo CD, I was extremely excited.  Easily the best demo disc that had ever crossed my desk, I knew big things were in store for this band.  A short period later, they were signed by Escape Music. This band might be from the ultra chilly town of Kiruna, Sweden, but there is nothing cold about Coldspell.

The songs I heard  last year were great, and a few of the songs on Coldspell’s debut “Infinite Stargaze” are from that demo, and rightfully so, as the songs kick ass.

Coldspell has to be one of the tightest melodic rock acts that I have heard in quite some time. Singer Niclas Swedentorp has a very powerful clean singing voice that is a true pleasure to hear. As strong as his voice is, the band backing him up is pretty awesome as well.

Former R.A.W. axe man Michael Larsson is an outstanding  guitarist.  His playing helps give Coldspell’s music a 70’s classic rock feel, with some modern sounding guitar tones. When Larsson cuts loose, I can not help my urge to crank the tunes up. I enjoyed his playing so much, on “Infinite Stargaze” that I immediately secured a copy of his former band’s CD (R.A.W – First).

The keyboards of Matti Eklund augments, but does not overpower Coldspell’s music. His playing gives Coldspell’s music a Deep Purple/Whitesnake like feel. Quite a few songs on “Infinite Stargaze” are incredibly catchy, and get in your head quickly. When I try to decide on a favorite I struggle, because there are several good songs on this disc.

The bottom line: “Infinite Stargaze” has some of the best melodic hard rock that I have heard in a long time. There is no doubt in my mind that this disc  will be in my top ten of 2009. With an album this good, Coldspell will, without question be heading to warmer climates in the near future!  Check them out on myspace at this link.

Fans of bands like Whitesnake, Gotthard, Tyketto or Blue Murder should not hesitate to buy this CD.  You can grab a copy of “Infinite Stargaze”  from NEH Records at this link.

Highly Recommended!
