Guitar Hero: Van Halen?
Video game publisher Activision, home of the Guitar Hero franchise, is gearing up to make Van Halen the subject of the next artist-specific edition in the series, according to gaming blog Joystiq. The site reported that Guitar Hero: Van Halen could arrive sometime later this year, with songs like “Jump,” “Panama,” and “Hot For Teacher” already slated for inclusion, as well as tracks by other artists such as Tenacious D’s “Master Exploder,” Weezer’s “Dope Nose” and Judas Priest’s “Painkiller.”
The biggest questions center around which band personnel will appear in the game. There’s no word on whether original bassist Michael Anthony will be excluded from the game play in favor of current bass player Wolfgang Van Halen, and it’s also unknown whether the game avatar of singer David Lee Roth will be joined by Sammy Hagar or even Gary Cherone.
Guitarist Eddie Van Halen recently said in an interview that work on a new Van Halen album could begin later this year. The band is also rumored to be considering a summer stadium tour with Guns N’ Roses.
Guitar Hero: Van Halen would be the third artist-specific game in the franchise, following last year’s Aerosmith-centered edition and the upcoming Metallica game, due out later this month.
Guitar Hero’s biggest competitor, Rock Band, has a Beatles edition in the works for release on September 9th.
