MARCH 20TH in San Juan Capistrano, CA
Leatherwolf, The Triple Axe Attack, are joining hard-rock band Y&T for a night of monster shredding at The Coach House in San Juan Capistrano, CA. With the band once again reunited and shredding metal in near classic formation you are in for a night of ultimate metal.
Long before British metal legends Iron Maiden picked up on the concept, a pack of hungry Huntington Beach, CA-based teenagers, collectively known as Leatherwolf, pioneered and perfected the heavy metal Triple Axe Attack – documented via a tri-fecta of critically acclaimed and much worshipped ’80’s scorchers. The eponymous debut EP, expanded to a full-length LP, entitled Endangered Species for international release, and a pair of stunning albums for Island Records, Leatherwolf and Street Ready (yielding the MTV videos ‘The Calling’ and ‘Hideaway’, respectively), saw the band flying the flag of decidedly European-styled metal amidst a sea of formulaic L.A. and OC contemporaries.

AOL’s Spinner.com has posted their exclusive live performance from Mastodon. The 3 song live set was filmed on February 5 at AOL’s NYC headquarters as part of “The Interface” series. While the band was there, they passed through the offices of Noisecreep.com, AOL’s new metal site, and showed off all of their tattoos and gave a little insight on the inspiration behind them.
Mastodon will be releasing their 4th album, Crack the Skye, on March 24th.
Vodpod videos no longer available.
The Cruefest 2 announcement is less than 70 hours away. Who do you think will be part of Motley Crue’s 2009 White Trash Circus. It was originally leaked that the lineup was going to be Saving Abel, Theory of A Deadman, Drowning Pool, Godsmack and of course, Motley Crue.
I am betting that this info is not 100 % correct. Saving Abel was recently announced as an opener on the Nickelback summer tour, so at least one act in this leak is incorrect.
We do know that Motley Crue will play Dr. Feelgood in its entirety on this tour, but that is about all of the information that has been released so far.
Tommy Lee has stated the possibility of Godsmack, Rob Zombie and Alice Cooper being in the lineup. I hope Tommy’s lineup is closer to reality than the one leaked earlier.
Are you planning to go to Cruefest 2 this year?
The album, Saving Abel, continues to reach new heights on the sales charts as well. The album spent 3 consecutive weeks at #1 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart before debuting on the Billboard 200 in July. It’s
just been certified Gold for sales of over 500,000 copies to date, and the band was presented with plaques for their achievement backstage last weekend at New Jersey’s IZOD Center. “Addicted” has reached platinum
success on the digital singles chart with over 1,000,000 singles sold so far.

The phone rang Wednesday afternoon in Christopher “Critter” Smith’s room at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
His mom had just stepped out for a moment, so he answered it.
“Critter, it’s Paul Stanley,” the caller said. Stanley is the lead singer for KISS, Critter’s favorite rock band.
“At first, I thought it was just my dad messing with me,” Critter said.
It really was Stanley.
He was calling from South America where KISS will kick off a tour next month. The band had been alerted about Critter by a fan after an article was published March 2 in The Enquirer. The article talked about the 11-year-old’s battle with leukemia, and mentioned his love for KISS.
“When I realized it was really him, I was like, ‘Oh my God!'” Critter said.
Stanley told Critter to stay strong and that he was praying for him. “And he told me he was going to send me some KISS stuff,” Critter said.
All of that happened about 1:30 p.m. The call lasted just a few minutes, but was enough to raise Critter’s spirits.
“I was lying down all day,” Critter said. “Then, after he called me, I was up playing basketball in my room.”
“He was on top of the world,” said his mother, Carol Smith.
About 10 p.m. that same day, the phone rang again. Still bouncing off the walls from Stanley’s call, Critter got another surprise: It was the band’s drummer, Eric Singer.
“I was just like ‘Woooow!'” Critter exclaimed.
Singer talked with Critter for a few minutes and invited him to one of their concerts this summer to see the show and meet the band.
“I’ve never even been to a concert at all,” Critter said. “This is just so cool!”
This is Critter’s second bout with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a cancer of the white blood cells.
During five months in 2007 he underwent five rounds of chemotherapy, a round of radiation and a bone marrow transplant. Critter returned to school at Fourth Street Elementary and was in remission for 15 months until January.
He’s started chemotherapy. He’ll undergo another bone marrow aspiration this weekend.
The good news, his mom said, is that doctors are going to hold off for now on another bone marrow transplant until they see how he does.
“To have to go through this twice isn’t fair, but I’m ecstatic he’s responding to the chemo,” his mother said. “I’m still nervous, but hopeful.”

Network To Create Multi-Platform Promotional Campaign In Support Of April 10, 2009 Theatrical Release
VH1 has acquired the exclusive rights for the critically acclaimed documentary “Anvil! The Story of Anvil.” VH1 will handle the television and DVD release and distribute the film theatrically in association with Abramorama. The world television premiere on VH1 this summer and the subsequent DVD release of the film follow a network-wide, multi-platform promotional campaign supporting the theatrical film release April 10, 2009 in New York and Los Angeles followed by a national roll-out.
“Anvil! The Story of Anvil“ is the directorial debut of screenwriter Sacha Gervasi (“The Terminal”) and was produced by Rebecca Yeldham (“The Kite Runner” and “The Motorcycle Diaries”). The film follows Steve “Lips” Kudlow and Robb Reiner and their band, Anvil, which released one of the heaviest albums in metal history, 1982’s Metal on Metal. The album influenced an entire musical generation of rock bands, including Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax, who all went on to sell millions of records. Anvil, on the other hand, took a different path — straight to obscurity. The film is both entertaining and touching as it follows their last-ditch quest for the fame and fortune that has been so elusive to them. “Anvil! The Story of Anvil“ is a timeless tale of survival and the unadulterated passion it takes to follow your dream, year after year.
Ironically, life is now looking up for the band. After years of playing to empty bars and working dead end jobs, the band is beginning to find the success that evaded them for decades. They have recently been signed by manager Rick Sales (Slayer), US agent Scott Sokol (Megadeth, Heaven and Hell), and UK agent Steve Strange (Coldplay). The band is being welcomed with open arms everywhere they go. Their latest fan, Sarah Brown (wife of the Prime Minister), attended the red carpet premiere of the film in the UK. Now with a U.S. Tour, the support of VH1 and VH1 Classic, a feature documentary, and an immeasurable amount of will and determination, the band is picking up where they left off twenty five years ago.
“When I was sixteen years old Anvil was my favorite band in the world. I couldn’t believe it when I met Lips and Robb in London and they invited me to come out on the road with them. Running away to join the rock and roll circus was, of course, an experience I never forgot. When I met the band again twenty years later I was completely awed and inspired to discover that they simply refused to give up on the dream they had had as kids. It makes me intensely happy and proud to see the band finally getting the recognition they so richly deserve. Anvil rocks!” said Sacha Gervasi, director of the film.
“Anvil! The Story of Anvil“ premiered at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival, where it received acclaim from critics and audiences alike. It went on to win the Audience Awards at the 2008 Los Angeles Film Festival, 2008 Sydney Film Festival, and 2009 Jameson Dublin International Film Festival, as well as the Best Documentary Feature Awards at 2008 Galway Film Fleadh, 2008 Calgary Film Festival, 2008 Edmonton Film Festival, and 2009 Jameson Dublin International Film Festival. The film was also nominated for the Truer Than Fiction Award at the 2009 Film Independent Spirit Awards. The film was released in the UK to critical acclaim on February 20, 2009.
“This film is so much more than a documentary about the roots of metal. It’s a story about the power of perseverance and friendship and the passion that drives them,” said Tom Calderone, President of VH1. “‘Anvil! The Story of Anvil’ has a huge heart and will resonate with all of our viewers. This is the type of project that drew me into the VH1 fold and makes me especially proud to work here.”
Praised as “The best documentary I’ve seen in years,” by documentarian Michael Moore, the London Times calls it “Possibly the greatest film yet made about rock and roll;” “Anvil! The Story of Anvil“ contains appearances by an array of heavy metal icons, including Metallica’s Lars Ulrich, former member of Guns N’ Roses’ Slash, Anthrax’s Scott Ian, and Slayer’s Tom Araya, among others.
“Sacha knew from the beginning that this was not just a “metal” film. In my first encounter with Anvil, it was impossible not to be moved by their loyalty, determination and mad, blind faith. How sweet it is to see them now ride this tide of success — not just to be heard, finally — but to be heralded for their humbling tenacity and devotion to their art and to each other,” said producer Rebecca Yeldham.
VH1 has thrown the full support of the network behind Anvil, the band’s music and the film on all platforms. The timing of this support from not only VH1 but from the music and film industry coincides with the realization of Anvil’s lifelong dream to “make it.”
Timed to the release of the film in April, VH1 Classic will serve as the exclusive presenter for the band’s U.S. tour. “VH1 Classic Presents: The Anvil Experience” will cover 7 markets and upcoming dates, venues and ticket information will be available immediately on the film’s website anvilmovie.com and vh1classic.com. At each tour stop, the film will be played immediately followed by a short performance by the band.

Additional elements include:
- In an unprecedented move, for the first time ever the network will run the full length movie trailer of the film like a music video throughout all VH1 video hours — morning, overnights, on VH1 Classic and on vh1.com and vh1classic.com.
- In the weeks leading up to the theatrical release, VH1 will be creating a VH1 News package that will include a new interview with Lips and Robb.
- On vh1.com and vh1classic.com, Robb and Lips will be featured on an episode of the original series “My Playlist” as they discuss their influences and favorite Classic Rock songs.
- VH1 Classic will air an episode of its original talk show “That Metal Show” with Robb and Lips and will center on Anvil’s career, music, upcoming tour and the film. This episode will run timed to the film’s April theatrical release and will then repeat promoting the film’s television premiere on VH1 and the film’s availability on DVD.
The DVD release and world television premiere of the film on VH1 and VH1 Classic this summer will be supported by significant on-air promos on VH1 and VH1 Classic and dedicated online promotion on VH1.com. Each telecast will include a customized on-screen graphic supporting the DVD release which will be made available to fans at a later date yet to be announced. Promotional excerpt clips of the film will also be supported and streamed on FVOD, online and wireless.
“Anvil! The Story of Anvil“ is directed by Sacha Gervasi and produced by Rebecca Yeldham, with cinematography by Chris Soos, editing by Jeff Renfroe and Andrew Dickler, and music supervision by Dana Sano.

Called by some as Scotland’s answer to Guns N’ Roses from Inverness, Scotland comes Stolen Order. Comprised of Toby Michaels(Vocals), Jonny Gash and James Dice(Guitars), El Minge(Bass) and Dan Carson(Drums), this five piece has been together starting their own rock revolution since 2005 when fed up and disappointed with the state of music the guys decided to put together something they felt the music industry needed, some fun loving hard rock. The guys began writing music and lyrics, not to change the world, but music they enjoy and that others would enjoy too. Music for the rock world to party to all night long.
Stolen Order has toured Scotland extensively opening for such bands as Therapy?, Bullets and Octane, Wishbone Ash and Heavens Basement, among others and have also played such festivals as the Belladrum and Skye Festivals. With the 2008 release of their e.p. “Whatever It Takes” the band hopes to open new doors not only to the rest of Britain, but Europe also and eventually the rest of the world. With such songs as “Love Money”, “Can’t Complain”, “Let’s Get The Feeling”, and “The Bitch Is Gone” is shouldn’t be long before fans across the world are joining Stolen Order’s revolution.
Frontiers Records is proud to announce the release for the second SUNSTORM album, House of Dreams. This AOR masterpiece, featuring former Rainbow, Malmsteen and Deep Purple vocalist Joe Lynn Turner, will be out in Europe on April 17, 2009.
The first SUNSTORM album saw the light of day in 2006 when Turner accepted Frontiers President Serafino Perugino‘s concept to blow the dust off from some potential AOR hit songs that Joe wrote for the aborted follow up to his 1985 solo debut Rescue You. It turned out to be one of the most successful, straight-ahead Melodic Rock releases of 2006. Jim Peterik (ex Survivor, Pride of Lions) supplied additional tracks and the album was rounded off with some other AOR classics picked by Joe and Serafino.
The stunning production, courtesy of PINK CREAM 69’s studio wizard Dennis Ward, was hailed as one of the highlights and key factors to the album’s success. When the second release was being planned, it was a natural choice to ask Ward to be a part of the project again. This time, he played bass and sung background vocals. He also enlisted Uwe Reitenauer and Thorsten Koehne on guitars, Chris Schmidt on drums and Gunter Werno on keyboards.
Once again, Turner dug deep into the archives and found some classy Melodic Rock gems to resurrect. One of the highlights that might sound familiar to fans is I Found Love, a song that Turner often used to open up his concerts on the Rescue You tour. There’s also Forever Now and Save a Place in Your Heart, where another AOR cult-hero Paul Sabu appears among the writing credits.
Serafino also asked Joe to finally release “his” version of the amazing ballad Walk On, that Turner co-wrote with Desmond Child (KISS; BON JOVI etc) for the Jimmy Barnes album Freight Train Heart in 1987. Additionally, Jim Peterik was called in to offer his talents to SUNSTORM once again. The results include Tears on the Pages— a tune co-written by Jon Lind and Russ Ballard. Peterik also contributed, Say You Will and Gutters of Gold. Brothers Tom and James Martin (HOUSE OF LORDS, KHYMERA) wrote the remaining tracks and were able to capture the spirit and quality of songs expected on the SUNSTORM project.
Turner, who recently returned from a tour of Russia with Over The Rainbow, was excited to come home and find out that House of Dreams was coming out in April. He says, “Once again, Serafino and the staff at Frontiers have proved that they know how to cater to Melodic Rock fans. I am glad that they believed in the Sunstorm concept enough to get behind the release of a second album. There are plenty of people all over the world that love this genre of music and I still enjoy making it. It’s also invigorating and rewarding to be able to sing some of these songs that I co-wrote or performed in the 80s that never had a chance to be released properly. Jim Peterik came through again with incredible tracks—well structured with compelling lyrics and melody changes. The Martin brothers also brought in some songs that will probably translate great, live, and that the fans will really enjoy.”
SUNSTORM’s House of Dreams is a real “must have” for all JLT lovers and a stunning release for all Melodic Rock fans.
Final tracklisting includes: Divided, Don’t Give Up, The Spirit Inside, I Found Love, Say You Will, Gutters of Gold, Save a Place in Your Heart, Forever Now, Tears on the Pages, House of Dreams, Walk On.
The album will be released on May 19th in the USA via Frontiers/Super D and in Japan on King Records.
One of the biggest releases of 2008 is now only a few weeks away. Heaven & Hell featuring Tony Iommi, Ronnie James Dio, Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice, will release their new album, “The Devil You Know” on April 28th, 2009.
The track listing for the CD is as follows:
01. Atom & Evil
03. Bible Black
04. Double the Pain
05. Rock & Roll Angel
06. The Turn of the Screw
07. Eating the Cannibals
08. Follow the Tears
10. Breaking into Heaven
Heaven And Hell will premiere ‘The Devil You Know’ on the April 29th edition of the U.S radio show “Rockline” at 8:30 p.m. PT / 11:30 p.m. ET. An encore presentation of the show will air on May 4th.

In continuing their commitment to a worldwide metallic onslaught HEAVY ARTILLERY is proud to announce the signing of Phoenix, AZ based futuristic thrashers, VEKTOR. Refusing to be pigeon-holed into any metal sub-genre, VEKTOR employs an array of intricacy, virtuosity and a wholly unique sound that sets them clearly apart from the growing legions of color-by-numbers thrash bands. Their debut full length album, Black Future on HEAVY ARTILLERY, is tentatively slated for release in August 2009.
Conceived in 2004 by front man / guitarist David DiSanto and lead shredder Erik Nelson, VEKTOR quickly forged a formidable name for themselves amongst the Phoenix metal contingent for their unique mix of technical, speed thrash and progressive influences. Going against the grain of the Phoenix metal scene, VEKTOR created a wave of interest with their self released CD Demolition (2006) and the ferocious two track demo Hunger for Violence (2007). After four years of local and regional gigging opening for such national acts as TESTAMENT, HIRAX, ICED EARTH and MUNICPAL WASTE, VEKTOR is preparing to hit the road for their first national tour alongside label mates EXMORTUS in support of Black Future.

For the first edition of Rockitt Rant, I have to bring up the high prices for concert tickets in 2009. It is getting WAY out of hand!
When the announcement came out that Cheap Trick, Def Leppard and Poison would be touring this summer, I knew there would be another fun summer show I would likely attend.
Last Thursday afternoon, I received the reminder about the show from Ticketmaster. I immediately went to the Ticketmaster site to check the ticket prices for this show.
Three Tickets 85.50 Each, Convenience charge per ticket 13.45, Building Facility Charge 3.50 per ticket.
Grand Total $279.45 for 3 tickets for Cheap Trick, Poison and Def Leppard.
I immediately clicked off of the Ticketmaster site, contacted my wife and informed her that we would NOT be going to see Poison this year. It is a shame, as we have enjoyed going the last couple of years. Enough is enough with the high ticket prices.
I am sure everyone is well aware of how crappy our economy is right now. It is affecting nearly everyone I know. It is either hitting them in their pocket book, or in their places of employment. Everyone is cutting back, as am I.
For three bands who haven’t had a hit in years, the cost of these tickets are absurd. Poison has managed to bring forth a couple of reasonably priced shows the last couple of years, both of which pretty good shows, and were well attended.
I can’t imagine that this year’s Poison show will have as many people.
I am sure having Def Leppard on the bill drove up the cost of the tickets, but I don’t think Mr. Elliott and company are worth another $40.00 to the ticket price. Too add fuel to the fire, Ticketmaster adds a whopping $49.85 to the cost of three tickets. This is highway robbery in my opinion. I am sure it will get even more costly with the Ticketmaster – Live Nation merger.
Def Leppard may be guilty of high ticket prices, but Motley Crue are no angels either. The recent tour with The Lost Vegas, Hinder, Theory of A Deadman and Motley Crue had an average ticket price of $95.00 each in the cities the played in.
Are hard rock fans stuck paying for the retirement funds of our favorite bands in 2009? I don’t know, but I won’t support a band in a live setting when their tickets are over priced like this. Vivian Campbell was recently quoted by Rolling Stone as saying “It’s more value for the people” when referring to the 2009 Def Leppard Tour Package with Cheap Trick and Poison. Sorry Viv, I fail to see the value when a single ticket sets a fan back $93.00.
Are you tired of paying the high prices for concert tickets? What is the most you have paid for a concert?
Touring in support of their Billboard Heatseekers charting new album, Tinnitus Sanctus – which was released in North America on January 27th – Germany’s beloved EDGUY are headed back to the U.S. and Canada this September to play 18 shows armed with their trademarked unbreakable spirit, unbeatable tongue-in-cheek attitude, and truckloads of talent to back everything up.

Today is Vinnie Paul’s birthday and as a gift to the Metal God, we should all check out the latest signee to Vinnie’s label (Big Vin Records), Seventh SEVENTH VOID.
SEVENTH VOID, the new band formed by TYPE O NEGATIVE guitarist Kenny Hickey and drummer Johnny Kelly, will release its debut album on April 21 via Big Vin Records, the label formed by HELLYEAH/ex-PANTERA drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott. “It’s an amazing record,” Vinnie recently said. “I mixed the whole thing for the guys. It goes somewhere between SOUNDGARDEN meets BLACK SABBATH meets a little AUDIOSLAVE, with some TYPE O thrown in there. It’s really nice, dark, sludgy… Kenny’s vocals are great.”
Rounded out by bassist Hank Hell (INHUMAN) and guitarist Matt Brown (ex-SUPERMASSIV), SEVENTH VOIDTYPE O’s tradition of slow, heavy riffs and existential lyrics, but with a slightly sludgier, “stonier” flavor. continues
The band’s first single “Heaven is Gone” can be heard on their Myspace page. Check it out: http://myspace.com/seventhvoid
Carrie Underwood may have won “American Idol,” and America’s hearts, with her country twang, but the singer tapped into her rock side to record the show’s new farewell theme. In keeping with the recent “home” theme of the tunes played as contestants are eliminated from “Idol,” Underwood recently tracked a countrified cover of Mötley Crüe’s bittersweet ballad “Home Sweet Home,” which will make its debut on Wednesday night (March 11) when this season’s first finalist is sent home.
The song will be available as a digital single exclusively on iTunes through March 16, after which it will be released on other online music retail sites. According to Underwood’s official site, a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Humane Society of the United States.
“I’ve always loved this song,” Underwood said in a statement. “And besides being very fitting for ‘Idol,’ to me, the title is also very fitting with animal rescue and finding animals their own homes.”
Season-four winner Underwood joins a few other “Idol” alumni in providing the season’s farewell theme, including Daughtry, whose “Home” played as season-six singers took their final bow. Ruben Studdard’s cover of Kenny Loggins’ “Celebrate Me Home” did the honors last year, and Daniel Powter’s “Bad Day” turned into a huge digital hit in 2006, when it was picked as the season walk-off tune.
Video game publisher Activision, home of the Guitar Hero franchise, is gearing up to make Van Halen the subject of the next artist-specific edition in the series, according to gaming blog Joystiq. The site reported that Guitar Hero: Van Halen could arrive sometime later this year, with songs like “Jump,” “Panama,” and “Hot For Teacher” already slated for inclusion, as well as tracks by other artists such as Tenacious D’s “Master Exploder,” Weezer’s “Dope Nose” and Judas Priest’s “Painkiller.”
The biggest questions center around which band personnel will appear in the game. There’s no word on whether original bassist Michael Anthony will be excluded from the game play in favor of current bass player Wolfgang Van Halen, and it’s also unknown whether the game avatar of singer David Lee Roth will be joined by Sammy Hagar or even Gary Cherone.
Guitarist Eddie Van Halen recently said in an interview that work on a new Van Halen album could begin later this year. The band is also rumored to be considering a summer stadium tour with Guns N’ Roses.
Guitar Hero: Van Halen would be the third artist-specific game in the franchise, following last year’s Aerosmith-centered edition and the upcoming Metallica game, due out later this month.
Guitar Hero’s biggest competitor, Rock Band, has a Beatles edition in the works for release on September 9th.
