THEIR ALBUM OF THE DECADE CARRIES AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE
“Lifeline” Smash Alternative and Rock Single
Papa Roach’s album of the decade Metamorphosis debuts at number 8 this week on the Billboard Top 200 Album chart with 44,456 units sold. First week sales of Metamorphosis exceed that of their 2006 The Paramour Sessions which sold 36,742 units – that’s an 18% increase despite a tough economic climate and a sign that demand for the band’s signature brand of rock is only increasing. Released on March 24th on DGC/Interscope Records the album marks the band’s 10 years together and showcases their ever-growing talent as musicians and songwriters with a career that includes seven Top Ten multi-format hits including “Last Resort,” “Forever,” “Getting Away With Murder,” “Scars” and “To Be Loved.”
The first official single from Metamorphosis, “Lifeline,” is currently in the top 5 of both the Alternative and Rock charts (no. 4 and no. 1) in the country with digital sales of the single spiking by 139% with 18,878 sold this week. The video for the single is currently the #1 most played on FUSE and the #1 rock video on MTV2. Directed by Chris Sims (Queens of the Stone Age, Jimmy Eat World), the “Lifeline” video underscores the dire state of the global economy: http://www.imeem.com/paparoach/video/bv_KUO4l/papa-roach-lifeline-music-video/.
Frontman Jacoby Shaddix explains, “While we were writing Metamorphosis in early 2008, the band was very aware of the grave issue of our economy’s downward spiral. It was literally right in front of us in my hometown of Sacramento. Houses left and right were foreclosing with families left on their asses out in the cold, which inspired me to write the lyrics to “Lifeline.” He continues, “Other tracks on the album such as ‘Change or Die,’ ‘Had Enough’ and ‘March Out Of The Darkness’ also tap into the struggles so many people are facing in these difficult economic times.”
Papa Roach is currently on a 47 date tour with Buckcherry and Avenged Sevenfold and will be trekking through Europe in April and back again in June for their first headlining tour in over 2 years before hitting the road with Nickelback this summer starting July 10. The German Hard Rock Guitar Virtuoso Returns To America
With Gipsy Lady and His Highly-Skilled Group Of Musicians
Gipsy Lady, the first album from the Michael Schenker-Gary Barden Acoustic Project, will be available on CD and vinyl on May 19 (just before the US tour begins). Gary Barden’s vocals give the cleverly arranged songs just the touch of soul they need for full impact The long-term Schenker collaborator wrote the lyrics virtually off the top of his head. Also on board is Michael Voss, an experienced producer and second guitarist, who also provides background vocals. Kai Luennemann on percussion completes the team.
With such a distinctive, soft sound from Michael Schenker’s guitar, this album distinguishes itself easily. In this way, using a flamenco guitar with castanets in “Dance Lady Gipsy” conjures up a hot-blooded gipsy dancing before your eyes, while the fiddle and flutes in “Fight for Freedom” transport you to beautiful Ireland. The new album from Michael Schenker-Gary Barden Acoustic Project is more than an acoustic album; it demonstrates all Michael Schenker’s expertise as a guitarist and songwriter.

Schenker is truly a legend From helping form the Scorpions to his stint with UFO, his guitar prowess has been electrifying from the beginning. “In the Midst of Beauty perfectly captures the MSG aesthetic and mystique, which makes sense as 4/5ths of the original MSG are back in the fold!
Singer Gary Barden and the rest of the band make this one of their best (and most highly anticipated) recordings and a return to classic MSG form. Pushing the boundaries of hard rock, heavy metal and blues rock to the limits which his old fans love and which will impress a wide range of new fans.
“In the Midst of Beauty was the first runner-up for Best Metal Album of 2008 on IGN.com – http://bestof.ign.com/2008/music/4.html
“…Rock and roll with a certified master guitarist.”
– Ralph Greco, VINTAGE ROCK
“Every song is well written, every band member’s performance is solid, and the axework is pure classic Schenker. “
– Steve Angulo, HEAVY METAL ADDICTION
Some of the best work Schenker has done in years.”

With VH1’s Do It for the Band: The Women of the Sunset Strip set to premiere on Friday, April 3rd, I thought it was only fitting to discuss the pivotal role we ladies played in the life of rock & roll. Without us, the genre of 80’s rock as we know it may have never existed.
Most of us affiliate the women of rock with groupies. That’s probably correct about 90% of the time. I mean, seriously, who doesn’t want to get down and dirty with a rock star? I know I do (Nikki Sixx, I’m talking to you.) But for some of these ladies, it wasn’t just about putting another notch in their up and coming rock star belt; it was about helping the up and coming rock star make it big at any cost. The Band Aid.
If any of you have read The Dirt, then you know the low down, dirty, filthy, disgusting, vile behavior the rockers on the Sunset Strip lived. They were out to use whoever, whenever as long as it meant furthering the career of the band. The whoever in this case usually happened to be a hot girl who was willing to fuck and give a buck all for the cause. These women gave it all: sex, drugs, booze, food, clothes, money, apartments, cars. Why? They did it to support the men and the music they believed in.
Imagine if no women supported Nikki Sixx or Bret Michaels or Stephen Pearcy or Slash? Let that soak in for a minute…now imagine a world without their bands. AHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! Frightening, isn’t it? Supporting these broke musicians helped an entire genre of music be born. They allowed all of these amazing talents to progress and thrive, no matter the cost to them. Had they not given these guys a place to crash or $20 for a beer run, I may be writing a blog about Flock of Seagulls right now.
And what did these ladies get in return? Love? Devotion? Absolutely not. They got treated like trash, cheated on, and probably got a venereal disease or two. Did that stop them from supporting any of these wanna be rock stars? Absolutely not. I’m sure some of them cheated on their wanna be rock stars and moved on to support other wanna be rock stars. In the end, these ladies sacrificed almost everything to be left in the dust while the men they loved rose to the top.
Thank you ladies for giving it up and giving everything to let these men succeed. Without you, we may have missed out on one of the greatest periods of rock & roll, and I may have missed out on my obsession with Nikki Sixx.
Check out my latest blog and see which rock stars I would have supported back in the day had I been old enough.
