We can’t tell you how refreshing Halestorm is to us. Maybe you noticed too. Hearing a woman, Lizzy Hale, sing with a legitimate, shot-through-the-heart Rock & Roll voice is a rare treat these days. Combine her powerful, compelling and soulful vocals with an honest to goodness, kick ass, real-deal band and the results are a welcome addition to the Rock pastiche. Literally, because of Lizzy, Halestorm doesn’t sound like anyone else; you’re definitely not going to confuse them with any other band on your favorite radio station. Of course, there’s a reason why they sound so finely honed and tuned, the band has roots dating back to 1998 when some of the members were still pre-teens. At once young and veteran. This eponymous collection of eleven songs grabs you from the first one,”It’s Not You”, storms into the first single, “I Get Off”, keeps the energy level up with sonic pyrotechnics as intricate as Irish lace, and demands you keep listening. You can tell this is an assemblage of talent which has played more than a few gigs and gotten plenty of studio tans, despite the fact this is their first major label outing. Surrounding the aforementioned Ms. Hale is her brother Arejay Hale bangin’ on the kit, Joe Hottinger rippin’ on guitar and Josh Smith thumping his bass. You can learn more about the band at HalestormRocks.com and their MySpace.
Halestorm is currently on the road taking their music to you; we’ll catch up with them the night before they perform at one of the most revered and legendary celebrations in America, Summerfest in Milwaukee. Mustard and kraut on the brat please. Then they latch onto a big summer tour with Staind, Shinedown and Chevelle, a jaunt where they can continue to cut their teeth and earn their own audiences by opening up for someone else’s. It’s the ultimate road test and one of the toughest things a group can do. So we’d like to help them cultivate their own fans in whatever way we can because we think there is something going on with this band, so we decided to invite them on, introduce them to you, play some of their music and see if you hear what we hear. Someone else believes in them too because they brought in a heavyweight producer and snagged the best mixer in the world to help put some thunder in Halestorm. The albums where you don’t want to skip a few songs are pretty rare, even rarer are the ones where you want to hear the songs again. Right then and there.
We are very pleased to welcome Halestorm to the next ROCKLINE and hope you have a few minutes to check them out, because we have a feeling you’re going to hear about them sooner or later and it might as well be sooner.

Velvet Revolver/ex-Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan’s current project, Duff McKagan’s Loaded, has reportedly been confirmed as one of the second-stage performers at Crüe Fest 2 tour, Mötley Crüe’s version of Ozzfest which features additional support from Godsmack, Theory Of A Deadman, Drowning Pool and Charm City Devils. As a result, Duff McKagan’s Loaded’s previously announced short run of U.S. club dates, which was scheduled for later this week, has been canceled.
“Sick”, the new full-length album from Duff McKagan’s Loaded, sold around 1,400 copies in the United States in its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The CD landed at position No. 43 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
“Sick” was released in North America on April 7th via Century Media Records.
“Street punk with a greater melodic sense!!” – ALTERNATIVE PRESS
SUICIDE CITY was first conceived when Biohazard vocalist/guitarist Billy Graziadei met Karl Bernholtz, vocalist of the south Florida band The Groovenics. The pair was joined by drummer Danny Lamagna, who had been recommended by members of Sworn Enemy. Soon after, Groovenics guitarist AJ Marchetta was added to the fold, and the lineup was finally rounded out by former Kittie bassist Jennifer Arroyo.
Not the type of band to just wait around for things to happen, SUICIDE CITY self-released an EP, ‘Not My Year,’ in 2005 and has since managed to sell over 7,000 copies sans label support. That year they also saw success in the form of a “Best Unsigned Band” award from East Coast Romper. In 2006 Kerrang! called them “a mesmerizing presence” and said that they had “manic wide eyed energy.” They have also self-produced and released a live DVD, entitled ‘Live From CBGB.’
The band has reputation for consistent and energetic touring, having spent time on the road with the likes of Otep, Taking Back Sunday, Gwar, Danzig, Life of Agony, Birthday Massacre, Mindless Self Indulgence, Despairs Ray, MXPX, Mushroomhead, and others.
Although the individual band members come from wildly different backgrounds, they all share a common passion for music and an unfaltering loyalty to SUICIDE CITY. As Arroyo says, “Suicide City inspires to me to reach new levels of sound and emotion.” Graziadei describes SUICIDE CITY’s sound as “punk rock, dirty rock ‘n roll with some big balls of metal and a touch of manic depression thrown in.” Lamagna’s precise percussion fury adds to the speed and aggression of the band’s sound, but is reigned in when a more melodic sound is required. The layers of Marchetta’s and Graziadei’s guitars succeed in laying down an aggressive onslaught as well as some impressive and unexpected melody while Arroyo’s bass holds down the low end of the party. Bernholtz vocalizes emotional poetry masterfully, and more than matches the music’s energy.
On August 4th, SUICIDE CITY releases their debut full-length effort, entitled ‘Frenzy,’ via Brooklyn label THE END RECORDS. “‘Frenzy’ is such an eclectic blend of music,” says Marchetta. “This band is unafraid and unapologetic about what we create, and because of that we have an album with a really wide musical landscape.” Graziadei points out, “In our short time together, Suicide City has achieved more on our own than most bands do in their whole career with the help of a label.” Perhaps Bernholtz sums it up best: “Suicide City thrives on making people happy and smile through our music without having to candy coat anything. Life does not ‘suck and then you die.’ Life is great, dangerous, exciting, strange, and then you die. I guess that’s what we’re trying to portray with our music.”
SUICIDE CITY is:
Kalle Bernholtz – Vocals
Jennifer “Ms.JennCity” Arroyo – Bass, Vocals
Billy Graziadei – Guitar, Keyboard, Vocals
A.J. Marchetta – Guitar
Dan Lamagna – Drums

I must admit that I am not a die hard Marilyn Manson fan. I own a few of his CD’s, but his songs have always been hit or miss with me. I get his whole shock rock routine. It is certainly nothing new, but Manson does a good job keeping his name out there.
When Manson’s seventh album, “The High End of Low” hit last month I wanted to spend some quality time with his latest work before I posted a review. There is over seventy minutes of music to consume on Manson’s latest opus.
“The High End of Low” sees the return of Marilyn Manson’s long time guitarist Twiggy Ramirez. I don’t know if Twiggy’s return has anything to do with it, but Manson sounds a little more inspired on this disc.
The opening cut “Devour” is a moody rocker that leaves me guessing where this album is going. The only thing I didn’t like about this song is how it comes to an abrupt halt at the end.
“Leave A Scar” is a mid tempo number that is kind of catchy. This song has become an early favorite of mine.
The first single and video off of this album, “Arma-Goddamn-Motherfuckin-Geddon” is a creepy but cool rocker.
I can hear the song “WOW” getting play in some dance clubs. This song kind of reminds me of the industrial pop that Nine Inch Nails was doing back in late eighties.
The only thing stopping “Unkillable Monster” from getting some radio play are a couple of “F” bombs in the lyrics. They ought to do a radio edit on this tune.
“We’re From America” is a catchy tune with more big beats and an industrial edge that will find its way to quite a few turntables.
“The High End of Low” has a little bit of something for everyone, assuming that you won’t be offended by the sometimes harsh lyrics. Long time Manson fans will be happy to with this disc. There are a few songs on “The High End of Low” that are just on the o.k. side, but this disc seems to have grown on me after multiple listens. Recommended to all Manson fans.
