As announced last week, thrash legends Anthrax regretfully cancelled the first three dates on the second leg of their European tour due to new vocalist Dan Nelson’s unexpected illness. An additional seven European dates are also cancelled, those scheduled from July 22 to July 30. Anthrax is thrilled to announce that they will play the August 1 Sonisphere festival in Knebworth, England, with their good friend John Bush joining them for a very special one off performance.
The members of Anthrax have confirmed the departure of vocalist Dan Nelson. In light of this development, Anthrax’s slot on the U.S. Slipknot dates set for August and September, has also been cancelled. Anthrax is already actively considering lead singer candidates, and look forward to hitting the road before the end of the year.
FANS TO GET AN EARLY EARFUL OF NEW SONGS DURING SIX KILLER NORTH AMERICAN DATES
NEW ALBUM, COSMIC EGG, COMING OCTOBER 13
Wolfmother is back with sharpened chops, and the band will preview new material on the road this summer, including a run of shows with the Killers. The Sydney, Australia, rockers have joined on as the main support for six shows in the Northeastern U.S. and Canada, where they’ll unveil the songs they’ve spent months recording in L.A. Tickets are now on sale for the following dates:
Mon-Aug-31 Columbia, MD Merriweather Post Pavilion
Tue-Sep-01 Wantagh, NY Jones Beach
Wed-Sep-02 Holmdel, NJ PNC Bank Arts Center
Fri-Sep-04 Boston, MA TD Banknorth Garden
Sat-Sep-05 Montreal, QC Quai Jacques Cartier
Sun-Sep-06 Toronto, ON Molson Amphitheater
Fans in L.A. can experience the whole album set to mind-blowing visuals on July 27 at the Laserium CyberTheater at the historic Vine Theater in Hollywood. Wolfmother also plays August 22nd at KROQ’s Epicenter ’09 festival at the Fairplex at Pomona in California.
The Grammy-winning four-piece recently dropped teaser track “Back Round” on iTunes, MySpace.com/wolfmother and wolfmother.com. And the foot-stomping, fuzz-drenched song will soon challenge players of Activision’s Guitar Hero 5. Wolfmother is also opening for AC/DC on its “Black Ice Tour,” beginning in February in 2010. The down-under tour, featuring two groups of Sydney’s finest sons, sold out faster than any in the Australia’s history.
Led by hirsute shredder Andrew Stockdale, the band cooked Cosmic Egg for three years, taking time to lock in a permanent lineup and build on the self-titled album that gave the world the insta-classic track “Woman.” They recorded over the course of two months with heralded UK producer Alan Moulder (Smashing Pumpkins, The Killers, My Bloody Valentine). His sweeping and storied career as an iconic record-maker coupled with Wolfmother’s immortal song craft add up to nothing short of a rip in the time-space continuum. But each one of these face-melting tunes was written to be played live and loud.
Wolfmother plans to headline a U.S. tour after the album’s release later this year.
Foreigner’s triple vision for its upcoming release? A three-disc set of new music, remixed hits and live performances.
Can’t Slow Down, due Sept. 29 on Rhino Entertainment, unveils 13 new songs produced by Marti Frederiksen and Mark Ronson. The title track is a nod to NASCAR and the band’s appearance at this year’s Samsung 500 in Texas.
A second CD remixes such classics as Double Vision, Cold as Ice, Urgent, Hot Blooded and I Wanna Know What Love Is. And the set’s DVD culls performances of hits in 5.1 surround sound, plus footage from Foreigner’s current European tour.
The collection will be sold exclusively at Walmart for $12. The band launches its U.S. tour July 30 in Morristown, N.J.

Get ready to Ratt n’ Roll on the high seas! Sunset Strip superheroes Ratt will sail the Caribbean this November as part of ShipRocked, a multi-day floating festival. ShipRocked sails from Ft. Lauderdale on November 15 and returns you to reality five days later. Along the way, ShipRocked ports in Ocho Rios, Jamaica and Georgetown, Grand Cayman. Queensryche, Tesla, Skid Row, Lynam, Endeverafter, Broken Teeth, Stereoside, Stonerider and the Niki Barr Band will join Ratt for the wet n’ wild vacation of lifetime.
Ratt are known for mega glam metal hits like “Round and Round,” “Lay It Down” and “Back for More.” Ratt will rock your face off and party hard with fans aboard ShipRocked. Who knows? You might even hear a choice cut or two from the band’s new album, due sometime this fall.
On ShipRocked, it’s all about the music – but other activities abound like exclusive meet and greets with the artists, theme nights, heavy metal karaoke, contests, charity auctions and maybe even a few all-star jam sessions!
“The biggest advantages ShipRocked has over other land-based festivals are intimacy and access,” says ShipRocked promoter Alan Koenig. “The venue and audience size are smaller, so the performances are much more up close and personal than they would be otherwise. Plus it is substantially easier for the bands to meet and greet all of their fans onboard, versus just a few people before or after a show. Add to that a number of other unique interactive events hosted by the artists and our guests will have plenty of opportunities to spend some quality time with their idols.”
ShipRocked sails November 15 -20, 2009 on the beautiful MSC Poesia. The Poesia is the third vessel in the MSC Cruise Line’s “Musica” family of ships. This ship features MSC Cruise Line’s signature Italian inspired decor, impeccable service, sumptuous cuisine in multiple restaurants, beautiful swimming pools, hot tubs plus a full-service spa and fitness center. Nearly two-thirds of the ship’s staterooms include private balconies! Pricing varies by cabin and is subject to availability, but starts at only $749 (per person, double occupancy) for an interior stateroom. The prices include your cruise (room and board), all the concerts, meet and greets and other exclusive events during the trip. For booking and more information, please visit www.getshiprocked.com, or call 877-855-5502.

In my opinion, Jorn Lande is one of the best new metal vocalists to come along in quite some time. His releases rarely ever disappoint me, and the new CD, Spirit Black is no exception.
The opening cut and title track “Spirit Black” is the greatest song Ronnie James Dio never wrote. Jorn Lande shows off his awesome Dio like mimicry on this tune, and it is damn cool as a result! Lande’s long time axeman Tore Moren plays some wicked guitar on this song.
“Below” isn’t my favorite JORN track by any means, but this tune does a good job keeping the pace going. Tore Moren’s guitar work is the highlight on this one.
The ultra creepy intro on “Road of the Cross” almost made think this was a Black Sabbath tune. I love the chugging guitars on this track.
I found it ironic that Heaven & Hell has a song Rock and Roll Angel, and JORN has “Rock ‘N’ Roll Angel”. They are two completely different songs
but I have to give a point to JORN. JORN’s “Rock ‘N’ Roll Angel” is clearly better. This JORN tune is a heavy yet melodic rocker that takes a couple of spins to fully absorb. Jon Berg makes a guest appearance and throws in some very cool guitar licks on this track.
“I Walk Alone” is a Tarja Turunen cover song. I haven’t heard the original song, but JORN’s version is pretty good. This song is a
little slower paced than the average JORN song, but Lande owns it vocally anyway.
My overall impression with Spirit Black is that it has stellar musicianship, and great vocals, but I am not so sure that the songs are all that memorable. It is a good disc, but not quite as good as some of JORN’s past releases. I like this CD well enough to replay it, and I wouldn’t turn it off if I heard it on the radio. I am a die-hard JORN fan though, so it might not have as much appeal to other folks. I would recommend giving the songs on JORN’s myspace a listen if you are on the fence.
