In this brand new feature at Hard Rock Hideout, Jeremy from ROADRUNNER Records will appear as guest blogger at HRH. Jeremy will get the opportunity to hear a song each week from a non ROADRUNNER Records Artist courtesy of HRH!. The song will be unmarked and untitled, so he will have no idea who the artist is, or what song he is listening to. The only thing he will know up front is it will be hard rock or metal tune. That is it! He will give us his unbiased thoughts on the tune we pick each week.
What will the outcome be? Stop back each week to find out!
Check out Jeremy’s thoughts on Song 1.
Drums, gotta love them. Everything about this song is simple, if not all simplistic, and I can’t get enough of those toms at the beginning. Makes me think of strolling down the street with a bounce in your step. Of course then they open up with that fill before the first chorus and.I’m a little disappointed. They never really leave that jaunty gait and by the second half of the song I want there to be more space in the rhythm and a sharper, more precise sound out of the drums.
Let’s face it: this is a fairly standard rock song. Standard guitar riff, basic drum patterns, somewhat vapid lyrics about money. Mostly I’m wondering who the sugarmama with the Rolls Royce is and whether she’s robbing the
cradle here. Is she a self-made woman or a gold digging widow on the prowl? Throughout I kept wanting this song to be a Danko Jones song, which means more space between riffs, more enthusiasm, kinetic lyrics. Something more than standard, you dig?
His response to the reveal:
I’m not surprised then at the band’s name, or where they came from, as it sounds like watered-down Black Crowes.
