I am not sure why it has taken me so long to discover the metal band Sacred Oath. Judging from the great sounds of their new 14 song CD, I have a lot of catching up to do. This CD is a packed full of classic 80’s style heavy metal, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
If you have been longing for music packed full of guitar solos, and soaring vocals, look no further. The music on this CD reminds me of a cross between Iron Maiden, old Queensryche and possibly Savatage. Rob Thorne has a pretty remarkable range in his vocals. Why haven’t I heard of this guy before?! I love his old school style of singing. The band backing him up might not be household names amongst metal musicians, but there are some serious players on this CD. Guitarist Bill Smith is one of the newer members of Sacred Oath. I am not sure where Rob Thorne, and Kenny Evans found this guy, but they found a great new talent. He cuts loose with solos on just about every song.
I was immediately impressed by the opening cut, “Paradise Lost”. Huge vocals, awesome galloping guitars, and fantastic solos to boot. This is the way to open up an album! By the time you get halfway through the song “Voodoo Dolls” you will be holding your horns high! The CD doesn’t slow down until the mid tempo rocker, “Counting Zeros”. Rob Thorne’s towering vocals are the centerpiece of this killer cut.
“Caught In the Act” reminds me of Slave to the Grind era of Skid Row. This is a another high tempo rocker.
There are a couple of weak cuts on the CD, but overall, I am quite pleased with the majority of the songs here. The moments of brilliance well out weigh the band ones! Some of my favorite cuts are, “Voodoo Dolls”, “Counting Zeros”, “Buried Alive”, and the title track “Sacred Oath”.
Sacred Oath has managed to crank out one of the better metal albums of 2009. It is definitely a disc most metal heads should check out.
This CD is available in most major retailers starting today. Don’t miss out on Sacred Oath! For more information on the band, check out their myspace page. You can check out the “Counting Zeros” video, as well as preview a couple of the tunes below.

Krokus posted the following this morning, regarding their Magic Night show that took place earlier this month:
Everything was perfect! One of the nicest open-air locations in all of Switzerland. Stage and crowd surrounded by huge trees and beautiful nature. A full moon and a superb performance building on and, as fans after the concert commented, even outdoing last year’s first concert by the originals.
Band and a huge crowd made the event “explosive”. With the band’s show KROKUS proved that regardless of the long hiatus of the originals neither professionalism nor musicianship suffered and they neatlessly continued as if time stood still between now and their most successful times in the eighties.
The playfulness of the band sparked over to the crowd and if this vibe is any indication of the quality of the forthcoming new CD, the rock nations of the world will witness a hot spring this coming year (when the new CD is released)!
Marc Storace: “The full moon, the electricity of the crowd and the band totally in sync made this indeed a “magic night” for us and everyone at the festival. It’s only gonna get better. The future is so bright, we’re gonna have to wear shades”.
And Chris Von Rohr added: “It was a magical night indeed and it felt great to have a little break from the absorbing studio work and play 2 new songs live – it all comes together – the band sounds better than ever. It’s all “balls out” and no safety bags anymore…Hallelujah!! Greetings from the Silver Mountains to all our fans from the number 1 Swiss Rock band”.

In an era where many “great” artistic wells seem to be starting to run dry, FELONY bursts out of the proverbial rock’n’roll gate like thoroughbred race horses from hell. The proverbial torch-bearers of the Midwest metal scene, this powerhouse dates back to 1989 and the second great sexual revolution of our culture. ‘Helltown Hotel’ documents plenty of attitude and gives us an unobstructed view of the evolution of FELONY from their earlier no-frills metal sound, with songs like the blood-pumping ‘Yank That Chain’ to songs like ‘To The Core’ which chronicle the darker, heavier version of the later day. Representing their unbridled lifestyle and way of performing, the term “Helltown” has become synonymous with all things that are FELONY.

STRIKE TWICE was created by vocalist Michael Hayes and guitarist Rob Luv, two guys with a love in their hearts and souls for hot-blooded hard rock. Fate smiled kindly on them during the 80’s metal revolution as they packed out clubs everywhere they went. Their tight, sleaze-fueled sound and debauchery-drenched stage show struck a chord with fans everywhere. Their music was powerful and precise, their songs designed to deliver hook-heavy entertainment. STRIKE TWICE played their music displaying a killer knack for crafting punchy, high-energy hard rock songs that drip with streetwise swagger and bad boy shock factor. Never settling for second best, STRIKE TWICE gave it all they had, a well-oiled hair metal machine that delivered the goods to hungry hard rockers. With ripping tunes like “Tango,” “D.F.W.M.,” and “Undress Me,” STRIKE TWICE proves beyond any doubt that they possess that indefinable hard rock magic that is still as relevant today as it was in the late 80’s and early 90’s!

LITA FORD GETS NAUGHTY ON WICKED WONDERLAND, TITILLATING ALBUM ART REFLECTED ON MYSPACE PAGE AND VINYL/PICTURE DISC VERSIONS
Remember the good old days, when you’d rush home from buying vinyl at your nearest record shop, put the platter on your turntable, and study the album cover and its contents as you listened? With those days seemingly gone with the “download revolution” in full swing, Lita is willing to offer fans a good sense of deja vu with her upcoming release on October 6th, Wicked Wonderland. In addition to being released as a CD and a download, it will also be issued as a vinyl record and an eye-popping picture disc. Pre-orders for both the CD and the vinyl version are available via Lita’s official site [www.litaxx.tv] and Myspace page [www.myspace.com/litaford]. “We told [album designers] Piggy D and Carin the lyrics to the songs – they’re very sexual,” says Lita. “We told them we didn’t want it to be our idea of a Wicked Wonderland. We wanted people to be able to hear the music, look at the art, and come up with their own Wicked Wonderland. Because my idea is probably a lot different than yours, which is probably a lot different than the neighbors! We all have different fantasies. What we love to do isn’t going to be for everybody, so we wanted the art to be very sexual yet vague enough to let you come up with your own thing – to help spur you into your own Wicked Wonderland.” Lita’s husband, Jim Gillette – who also co-produced Wicked Wonderland with Lita and Greg Hampton – agrees. “There’s a piece of art for every song. I haven’t seen any packaging like this in 20 years. Everybody’s doing the download thing – it’s like, go ahead, but you’re going to miss out on a huge part of the experience.
One night, we had a bottle of champagne and we sat there for three hours – we have a huge Apple screen in our studio, and we blew the picture up and started finding all this crazy stuff. Piggy said there are two cockroaches on the album cover…we only found one – we did find the other! There’s stuff all over. Lita says it’s almost like an ‘I Spy’ thing – the more you look, the more you see.” The vinyl version of Wicked Wonderland will be issued as a limited run, and the picture disc will be even a smaller limited run, so act fast. And tying in with the album cover design is a new design for Lita’s Myspace page. “Piggy D and Carin Cronacher put it together using the same artwork that they created for the album,” explains Lita. “Our myspace page is different from other bands, because we have pictures of the whole family. There’s a video of our kid boxing, there’s family photos – photos from the house, everyday life, vacations. It’s cool – we’ve gotten a lot of comments on that and a lot of emails through Myspace from people thanking us for being so open with our family life, and sharing more private stuff – rather than only studio-type shots.” And lastly, Jim encourages fans to get in touch with Lita through her myspace page, and either Lita or Jim will try and respond.

When I first heard that Lynch Mob was reuniting with Oni Logan to record a new CD, there was extreme excitement in the air. I always thought that Wicked Sensation (Lynch Mob’s debut disc) was underrated and under appreciated. Oni Logan has an amazing voice and coupled with George Lynch’s guitar abilities, Wicked Sensation was everything that solo Don Dokken was not.
After their debut album launched, Logan left the band or was fired, depending on which report you go by. It was assumed that their time together was done. Well now, some 19 years later, they have reunited to record the proper follow up to Wicked Sensation. Their offering is titled Smoke and Mirrors, and quite frankly, it was so worth the wait.
A throwback to the days of great rock and roll, the sound of the 80s with a new millennium twist, Smoke and Mirrors is rock done right. This is the record that all of their peers wished they recorded. Lynch has never sounded better, and Logan’s vocals are still amazing, even after all these years. This is hard rock the way you want it, a touch of blues, a pinch of sleaze, and a lot of fun. Rounding out the band with Lynch and Logan are bassist Marco Mendozza and drummer Scott Coogan (from Brides of Destruction). Together, these four men made quite a record.
Smoke and Mirrors opens with three of the hardest rocking tracks I’ve heard in a long time. They aren’t just great Lynch Mob songs, they’re great rock songs. The disc launches with the hard hitting “21st Century Man”, a kick in the face opening track that blows the mind. Lynch’s guitar work has an immediate impact and 30 seconds into the song when Logan’s vocals kick in, there is a magical feeling oozing from the disc. My only complaint on this song is the band’s decision to use the echo microphone effect currently made popular by Nickelback. That is an overused effect and it did not add any depth to the song, so it was not really necessary. Fortunately, this is the only song they try it on.
The title track follows and delivers a punch that’s just as hard as the opener. A hard rocker with a bluesy backbone, ‘Smoke & Mirrors” is a song that has feet moving and inspires sing-alongs after just two or three listens. Lynch launches the song with a little acoustic guitar riff that bleeds into an Oni Logan moan, and gets the song started. The music and vocals take over from there, producing an excellent track.
“Lucky Man” comes next and delivers the knockout blow. It’s not quite power ballad, not quite hard rocker, just a perfect hybrid of the two. “Lucky Man” shows Logan’s vocal range and proves that he still has what it takes to be a great lead singer. These three songs are reason enough to lay out the cash for this CD, but Lynch Mob is far from finished after ‘Lucky Man”.
Notable tracks include “Smoke and Mirrors”, “Lucky Man”, ‘The Phacist”, and “21st Century Man”. The solo on “Time Keepers’ is some of Lynch’s best work and shows that he is still a master of the guitar, worthy of being mentioned in the same league as Eddie Van Halen, Ace Frehley, and Yngwie Malmsteem. “Let the Music Be Your Master’ may not deliver as quickly as the opening tracks, but after three or four spins, it can be said that this song is as solid as the rest of the disc. The bridge changes and Lynch’s solo make this a worthy contender for top song on the disc. However, there is no clear cut favorite. That’s how good this CD is.
The hard hitting drum work of Coogan adds depth to these solid tracks. Coogan keeps perfect time throughout the album and shows off some of his own talent, even though it may appear that he and Mendozza get buried under the shadow of Lynch’s amazing guitar and Logan’s solid vocal power. That’s simply not true. The rhythm section in this band is the anchor and it’s a huge part of what makes Smoke and Mirrors such an outstanding album.
With a mixture of blues, hard rock, and a smattering of metal, Smoke and Mirrors is a CD sure to get multiple listens on your CD player, IPod, car stereo, house stereo, and wherever else you like to jam the tunes. Coming off the very solid Souls of We record, Lynch certainly has delivered a lot of great music in the past 12 months. Smoke and Mirrors is quite simply a must own disc for any hard rock/metal fan. With a ballsy bluesy, sleaze sound, powerful and outstanding guitar work by Lynch, and riffs that get stuck in your head for days, it’s a no brainer. Smoke and Mirrors is an exceptional CD.

Twelve tracks on the new album are produced by Mick Jones and Marti Frederiksen (Aerosmith and Buckcherry), with celebrated Grammy®-winning producer Mark Ronson (Amy Winehouse) contributing the Mick Jones-penned “Fool For You Anyway.” The title track, CAN’T SLOW DOWN, was written by Mick Jones, Kelly Hansen, and Marti Frederiksen as a tribute to NASCAR in celebration of Foreigner’s appearance at the Samsung 500 at the Texas Motor Speedway earlier this year. NASCAR fans bought so many CDs that day that Foreigner’s 2008 release No End In Sight: The Very Best Of Foreigner was propelled back into the Billboard Top 200. Back in the late 80’s, just about every record company on the planet was looking for a new sleaze rock sensation in the vein of Guns N’ Roses. Chrysalis Records found theirs with San Francisco transplants, Sea Hags. Back when the band’s debut came out, I originally picked this up on cassette, and only replaced this on CD recently. The only thing I could remember about this band is that I didn’t care for them very much. It had been years since I heard their music, so I decided to give them a second chance.
Mike Clink who produced the infamous Appetite for Destruction album for Guns N’ Roses, also produced this disc. It had to be great right?! Well, not really. The Sea Hags are better than I remembered them to be, but this isn’t what I would call a great disc either. It just seems to be missing the big hit tracks to push it over the edge. “Half the Way Valley” is pretty cool, as is “Doghouse”, and “Back to the Grind”.
Frank Wilsey shows off some really cool guitar licks on this disc. In fact, the music overall is pretty good. Singer Ron Yocum’s voice is kind of cool. It reminds me of a cross between Phil Lewis from L.A. Guns, and Davey Vain from VAIN. He has a familiar sound, but quite frankly, I don’t think he is quite as good as either of those singers. The biggest issue I think this CD has, is the songs lack the really big chorus that is needed to push them over the edge. The music is good, but is just isn’t memorable enough to stick with you.
Overall, I am glad I gave the Sea Hags a second chance. This isn’t the best CD in my collection by any means, but it is definitely worth a few plays now and then.
This CD was reissued by Rock Candy Records in 2007, but is still somewhat hard to find. You can purchase this disc from CD Inzane.com. You can listen to music from the Sea Hags, at the band’s myspace page here.

Their legacy was made famous with four rockin’ words, More Wine Waiter Please and now The Poor are baaack! So fill your glass and come along for the ride!
The Poor started out playing the pub circuit in Darwin nearly 2 decades ago. The plan was simple, hard rockin’ hard drinkin’ and world domination. In 1992 the band cut their debut release, the EP; Rude, Crude & Tattooed, produced by Rick Brewster & Bob Spencer from The Angels and from the opening line you knew it was going to be something great; Aussie pub rock, in your face, no bullshit, straight to the point, rock’n’fuck’n’roll!
In mid 1993, the band recorded their debut album, Who Cares, at Festival Studios in Sydney and Montreal, Canada with English Producer Paul Northfield. The Poor Boys also became The Poor, the name change was straight to the point just like the band and on March 21st 1994, Epic Records USA released the single, “More Wine Waiter Please”. It instantly became the number 1 most added track on US Rock Radio and attracted unprecedented acclaim from the U.S. rock press. Australia soon followed suit with the release of Who Cares on June 13 that year.
There was no stopping them now and with a mega hit single and album, the whole world wanted a piece of The Poor. They toured relentlessly, drank hard and rocked harder. Over the next 2 years The Poor toured the States (twice), Europe, Japan and all over Australia. During their turbulent roller coaster ride they scored support slots for The Angels, AC/DC, KISS, The Scorpions, Alice In Chains & Van Halen just to name a few.
After relentlessly touring to support Who Cares and playing over 20 brand new songs to rock fans worldwide they came to the realisation that they had already toured the world with the second album without actually releasing it! Was this a case of too much too soon or the simple fact that they toured their asses off on the road for so long? 1998 saw the release of the single ‘Simple Livin’ and with the birth of a new decade, The Poor went into hibernation.
It wasn’t until 2008 that The Poor returned to the stage for the first time in over 10 years when they were invited to join US metal icons WASP on a national tour around of Australia as special guests.
Within minutes of being back on stage on the first night of the tour it seemed that those 10 years had passed in the blink on an eye. The Poor partied with many old time fans while gaining many new fans who were witnessing their super charged live performance for the very first time.
With a taste of how it used to be and their hunger well and truly back, The Poor have teamed up with Riot Entertainment to unleash a new barrage of material to get the feet stomping and the fists pumping.
Stay tuned as The Poor get ready for Round 1 this October……

NEW ALBUM “CONSCIOUSNESS” IN STORES
AUG 25th THROUGH F.O.F LABEL GROUP
Santa Clarita, CA based SMILE EMPTY SOUL has filmed a video for their new single “Don’t Ever Leave” with director by Sonny Marler this past weekend. The video features actor Sean Faris who recently won an MTV Movie Award with his lead role in “Never Back Down” and up and coming actress Merisa Torneo. SMILE EMPTY SOUL’s new album “Consciousness” hits stores on August 25th released through F.O.F Label Group/EMI.
“Shooting videos is always a fun time and I think we really did a great job of capturing the feel of the song on camera,” says Smile Empty Soul’s Sean Danielsen. “The concept for the video is loosely based on this story ‘On the run from everything but each other’ that was in the LA Times. The story made for a cool visual to the song and director Sonny Marler knocked it out of the park. Working with real actors brought a whole new dimension to our video and Sean was a blast to hang with as well. The fact that he won an MTV Movie Award for Best Fight scene is pretty cool too. We can’t wait for our fans to see it, because they’re going to love it.”
The trio SMILE EMPTY SOUL (Sean Danielsen, vocals, guitar; Ryan Martin, bass; and Jake Kilmer, drums) has persevered through a series of obstacles that would have destroyed countless other bands. After reaching the heights of modern rock success on the group’s gold certified 2003 self-titled debut, which unleashed the #1 single “Bottom Of A Bottle”, SMILE EMPTY SOUL recorded their sophomore effort “Anxiety”. The album never hit store shelves after the group’s lead single was protested by Christian Fundamentalist groups, who organized a letter campaign against the label’s parent company Warner Bros. After parting ways with their record label, the band re-tooled their line-up and recorded their third album “Vultures”, which debuted on the Billboard Top 200 and at #14 on the Independent Album Charts. Since the group’s inception SMILE EMPTY SOUL toured relentlessly alongside some of rock’s biggest bands including Hinder, Papa Roach, Puddle of Mudd, Saliva and Finger Eleven.
SMILE EMPTY SOUL’s “Consciousness” was recorded in Los Angeles, CA by producer by Eddie Wohl (Anthrax, Ill Nino) and mixed by Jay Baumgardner (Three Days Grace, Godsmack, Papa Roach). The album takes the signature hard rock sound that SMILE EMPTY SOUL has created with modern rock staples like “Bottom of a Bottle”, “Nowhere Kids” and “Silhouettes” and hones it to perfection on new tracks “Don’t Ever Leave” and “Faker”.
SMILE EMPTY SOUL, Monster Energy Drinks and Schecter Guitars have announced a contest for the group’s upcoming album “Consciousness”, where one lucky fan will win an exclusive performance from the band at the winner’s house. Fans that visit this link and purchase the group’s new single “Don’t Ever Leave” from iTunes will be automatically entered to win. The contest winner will be announced on Sept 30th, 2009 and the band will they play a private party for the winner at a date to be determined. Fans can also join The Monster Army at http://monsterarmy.loopd.com to get a free exclusive song download from “Consciousness” courtesy of SMILE EMPTY SOUL and Monster Energy Drinks.

There’s no doubt in my mind that most of you guys out there have no interest whatsoever in reading about a wedding. However, I ask that you keep reading this post because you may just be interested in reading about mine. See, I didn’t have an ordinary, traditional wedding. Oh no, that’s just not my style. Instead, I had an all out, full blown rock & roll wedding from start to finish. It rocked so hard we blew fuses. Beat that!
First of all, my husband proposed to me on the Lynyrd Skynyrd Simple Man cruise in January 2008. Seriously…does it get any more rock & roll than that? From that point on, I was in total wedding mode and the gears in my mind were spinning on how I could make my wedding kick ass. Since he and I are both music fiends and he is the guitarist in the greatest band you’ve never listened to, the only option for our wedding theme was rock & roll all the way.
Usually, it’s the bride who gets crazy and goes overboard trying to find the perfect dress. Not this bride! Instead, it was the groom who went all out on his outfit. My husband got a one of a kind, custom made jacket made by the legendary Manuel from Nashville, TN. Manuel has made outfits for Gram Parsons, Keith Richards, Johnny Cash and Kid Rock…just to name a few. Needless to say, his jacket was a show stopper and completely stunning. Not as stunning as me, of course!
Instead of wasting hundreds of dollars on fancy shmancy wedding invitations, we decided to get…what else but concert tickets! Yeah, these were real, bonafide concert tickets with the bar code and the shiny seal on the back. To continue with the concert theme, our RSVP’s asked, “Are you on the guest list?” Our guests could then choose, “YES! I’m ready to rock & roll all nite!” or “No, I’m staying Home Sweet Home.” And there was a +1 after their name for their guest. And of course the font used for the RSVP was an AC/DC font. Other rock & roll touches included VIP laminates for our wedding party, custom made guitar picks for wedding favors, and vinyl records incorporated in the centerpieces.
Guests were greeted at the venue and given a “set list” instead of program. Inside the set list, each member of the bridal party was given a special title from lead guitar to sound engineer. As guests were being seated, our good friend, Charlie Starr from Blackberry Smoke, serenaded everyone and played acoustic guitar.
Our musical selection for the entire wedding was crucial and was the only thing my husband and I argued over. We
both had our own ideas and our own suggestions, so it took a lot of compromising before we settled on the perfect play list. The Moms walked down to Love Me Tender by Elvis (my man is a HUGE Elvis freak). The bridal party walked down to Loving Cup by the Rolling Stones. And I walked down the aisle as my big brother played the intro to Tesla’s Love Song on his acoustic guitar. For the recessional, we all walked to Thank You by Led Zeppelin.
The musical overload doesn’t stop there. My husband and I were announced into the reception by our family friend, Rick Catuela – the Rock & Roll Reverend and owner of the Alrosa Villa, as Motley Crue’s Kickstart My Heart blasted. Our first dance was to Johnny Cash’s Rose of My Heart. For the Mother/Son dance, Blackberry Smoke played Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Simple Man. And for our cake cutting, we played Cups and Cakes by Spinal Tap. Our cake topper…a miniature replica of Waylon Jennings’ guitar.
We couldn’t have a wedding without having a band play. And since the guys in Blackberry Smoke were there for our proposal, we asked them to play at our wedding. Yes! Blackberry Smoke played at our wedding! They treated our guests to some kick ass southern rock and everyone loved it! There were even people on the band’s message board trying to find the location of our wedding so they could crash it and see them play! We also had Rosie, a well known local band from the 80’s, get up and play a quick set.
We tried to incorporate rock & roll into every aspect of our wedding, including our wedding party. One of the groomsmen, Mark Chatfield, is the guitarst for Bob Seger and was also the guitarist for a band called The Godz. Mark and another groomsman, Ed Means, were also members of Rosie. Our officiant, Mike Nugen, used to play for McGuffy Lane and is currently on tour with Jonalee White playing guitar.
The whole day pretty much kicked ass. It couldn’t have been more perfect and everyone had a blast. Our wedding was totally unique, which made it even more special for everyone, including us. So if you’re planning on getting hitched anytime soon, make sure you go the rock & roll route with your wedding. It’s A LOT more fun.
Make sure you check out my blog for my Cruefest 2 review! Even though Rob Rockitt has way better pictures from Cruefest than I do, you should still read my review…just for entertainment purposes only. 😉
STARTING FRIDAY, AUGUST 21, FREE DOWNLOADS FROM
THE LAST CD TO FEATURE THE ICONIC GUITAR LEGEND,
‘LES PAUL AND FRIENDS-A TRIBUTE TO A LEGEND’ TO BE MADE AVAILABLE AT
In honor of the legacy of the late Les Paul, immergent Records will be offering five free downloads from the very last official CD that featured the playing of Les Paul – LES PAUL AND FRIENDS-A TRIBUTE TO A LEGEND beginning on the same day as his memorial service in Waukesha, Wisconsin. After a funeral service Wednesday in New York City, Paul will be buried at a private ceremony on Friday, August 21, at the Prairie Home Cemetery in his hometown of Waukesha, WI. There will be a free public tribute and viewing from 10am to 2pm CT at Discovery World in Milwaukee. While other members of Paul’s family are buried in this cemetery, his plot will be larger and separate to allow for the public to easily visit. On Friday, the museum will also host a screening of Les Paul’s final Wisconsin concert, at Milwaukee’s Pabst Theater from 2008, and the guitar he used every week at the Iridium Jazz Club in New York City will also be on display.
The free downloads will be available from the immergent Les Paul Tribute site at http://www.immergent.com/immergent-remembers-les-paul starting at 12:01am ET Friday, August 21 and will continue through the weekend until Midnight PT Sunday, August 23.
In addition to the songs, fans can also leave their own tribute on the website as well as stream the album and listen to The Les Paul Radio Program, a tribute special produced by music historian Denny Somach, which originally aired last year when the album was first released. This program includes a stunning cover of U2’s “All I Ever Want Is You,” a brand new recording by Slash, and “The Good Luck You’re Having,” a mesmerizing blues performance with Les trading licks with guitar virtuoso Joe Bonamassa (named Best Blues Guitarist by Guitar Player magazine. Also included is a rundown of some of the top rock songs that feature the Les Paul guitar from Led Zeppelin, Cream, Jeff Beck, Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Guns & Roses, ZZ Top and more.
Originally released September 30, 2008, LES PAUL AND FRIENDS-A TRIBUTE TO A LEGEND is a fitting honor to the genre-crossing icon with an eclectic collection of musicians spanning the musical spectrum. From the hard hitting thunder of Joe Bonamassa’s blues-shredding guitar, to the fluid, ethereal, guitar groove provided by Slash, this CD covers the gamut of guitar and recording techniques. Superb music performances are also turned in by , Richie Sambora, Joe Perry, Peter Frampton, Jeff Golub, as well as vocalists Joan Osborne, Edgar Winter, Mick Hucknall from Simply Red, Johnny Rzeznik, Lisa Fischer, and many others. Notably, Les Paul himself plays alongside his protégés on several tracks. For all of his amazing accomplishments, Les Paul might be best known to the current generation as the name atop the headstock of the world’s most popular electric guitar, the Gibson Les Paul. What they likely do not know about the man behind the infamous name is that without Les Paul, the modern world of recording as we know it would never have existed. In addition to his status as one of the greatest jazz guitar virtuosos, Les Paul is responsible for inventing the multi-track recording process, the reverb and delay effects, and the solid body electric guitar itself. Paul’s contributions have forever changed the landscape of music and defined the sound of Rock ‘N Roll. This CD serves as a tribute, not only to the man, but also to these techniques that Les Paul invented, as well as to the Les Paul guitar and the inspiration he provided to the many guests that appear on this recording.
Here are the five free download songs which will be available this weekend:
“The Good Luck You’re Having” featuring Joe Bonamassa and Les Paul
“The Walls Came Tumbling Down” featuring Hiram Bullock and Les Paul
“I Don’t Want Be With Nobody But You” featuring Joan Osborne and Les Paul
“All I Want Is You” featuring Johnny Rzeznik, Peter Frampton and Les Paul
“Slipping Into Darkness” featuring Lisa Fischer and Les Paul
