12 Y & T’s Phil Kennemore Diagnosed With Cancer

  • August 8, 2010

I received an email from Y & T yesterday with an update from Y&T’s Phil Kennemore.  Please read below:

A Message From Phil…

To all of my dear friends and fans around the world and on the forum,

Up to now you haven’t heard much information (other than about my extreme back pain) because there really hasn’t been much until now.  I hated leaving you all in the dark but I didn’t want to say anything until there was something conclusive to say.  We do have a lot more information now.  The number one thing you need to know is that I have cancer.  It wasn’t absolutely formally diagnosed until yesterday.

With the bad news I also got the good news that along with surgery and treatments, I will be back rockin’ and rollin’.  I’ll be getting a hip replacement as well as back surgery, which means I’ll also be more agile.  The doctor said that this is treatable and I’ll be walking out of this place and I’ll be able to go on the road and do everything I need to do to continue my rock ‘n’ roll life, in due time.

I wanted to thank everyone for your well wishes.  I’ve been sitting here in the hospital reading all of the things that you’ve all posted online, and I want you to know it means so very much to me to see how much I am loved, supported, and missed.  I can really feel the love as I’m reading.  I love reading your posts on the web site forum, and, in fact, I need to hear it.  From here on out, whatever thoughts and feelings you have, please know that I wish that I could personally respond to each and every one of you, but I’m not able to right now.

Brad–thank God for Brad!  I’m so grateful that he stepped in to help keep Y&T on tour, bringing Facemelter to the people while I was ordered to the hospital.  Right now I think he’s the best guy on earth!

I’ll be released from the hospital within three-to-four weeks, continuing treatment, and at some point, I’ll be returning to the road.  Keep the love and good vibes flowing.  Do me a favor and go out and see the band now–Y&T is kicking serious ass–and I’ll be back rocking with you all soon.

0 An Update on DC4

  • August 8, 2010

DC4, the Los Angeles-based hard rock band featuring Rowan Robertson (ex-Dio) along with brothers Jeff Duncan (Armored Saint, Odin) on lead vocals and guitar, Shawn Duncan (Odin) on drums and Matt Duncan on bass, have a lot on their plate right now. Here is the latest and greatest.

First and foremost, DC4 is involved in a competition with over 300 other bands to open for KISS in Chicago on September 3rd. The ultimate decision on which band will open for them will be determined by KISS themselves, but fans can influence the decision by voting for who they’d like to see. Voting will end sometime next week and KISS will select a band from the top 5 vote-getters. Currently DC4 are in the top 5, but have spent a lot of time on top until recently. YOU can help them rise back to the top by investing a mere two minutes of your time. Vote for them by visiting the Eventful website and registering. Click on the tab that says “Demand It” on the line for DC4 and then enter your information. When asked to enter a zip code for where you’d like DC4 play, enter “60477”. That is the zip code for the venue where KISS will be playing. It’s THAT easy. And just so you know, I personally did this a few weeks back and no, I did not get inundated with spam… so no worries there. Just vote!

Also, DC4 entered the studio to record a new album in December and recently finished recording. Mixing of the new album, tentatively titled “Electric Ministry”, will begin on Tuesday. The album is being produced by legendary producer Bill Metoyer, who has worked on classic metal albums by bands such as Slayer, W.A.S.P., Armored Saint, Corrosion Of Conformity, D.R.I. and Fates Warning.

And finally, Rowan Robertson is featured in Classic Rock magazine’s 2010 summer edition. The issue pays tribute to the great Ronnie James Dio, documenting his early years up through Heaven & Hell with commentary from the musicians who knew him well. As Rowan joined the band Dio in 1989 as a teenager, his comments are also included in the tribute. The issue is available now. For details, visit the Classic Rock magazine website.

QUEENSRŸCHE’S TRIPLE-PLATINUM ‘EMPIRE’ REMASTERED AND EXPANDED FOR 20TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION, TO BE RELEASED SEPTEMBER 14 BY CAPITOL/EMI

Deluxe 2CD and Digital Packages Feature Remastered Original Album Plus 13 Bonus Tracks, Including 10 Previously Unreleased Live Recordings

Queensrÿche has partnered with Capitol/EMI for the September 14 release of an expanded 20th Anniversary Edition of the band’s triple platinum-certified breakout album, Empire.  The new 2 CD and digital packages both include the remastered album, featuring six hit singles, including the #1 smash “Silent Lucidity,” as well as 13 bonus tracks, among them 10 previously unreleased live performances recorded in 1990 at London’s Hammersmith Odeon. The 2 CD package is presented in a lift-top box with five postcards, a fold-out poster and a booklet featuring rare photos from the band’s personal archive.

After building a devoted fan base with album and EP releases throughout the 1980s, including 1988’s critically acclaimed Operation: Mindcrime, Queensrÿche broke into the mainstream across ..North America.. and abroad with the 1990 release of Empire.  In the U.S., the album peaked at #7 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and its hit ballad “Silent Lucidity” quickly became a heavy rotation staple at rock radio and on MTV, topping Billboard’s Modern Rock singles chart and earning Queensrÿche the coveted MTV Viewers Choice Award for the song’s music video. Empire also made the U.K.’s Top 10, and the album’s international success led to Queensrÿche’s 18-month headlining “Building Empires” world tour, the band’s longest trek to date.

Empire also features the Billboard Top 10 Modern Rock hits “Jet City Woman” and “Another Rainy Night,” the Top 20 single, “Anybody Listening?,” and the Top 30 singles “Best I Can” and Empire.”  In addition to the aforementioned live recordings, Empire (20th Anniversary Edition)’s bonus tracks include “Last Time in Paris” from the Ford Forlaine soundtrack, “Dirty Lil’ Secret,” and the band’s cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s “Scarborough Fair.”

Since forming in Bellevue, Washington in 1981, Queensrÿche has sold more than 20 million albums around the world. The band continues to tour and record; American Soldier was released last year. For more information, visit Queensrÿche’s official Website: www.queensryche.com
