Rites of Ash are the rising kings of electronic art with their blend of pop/ hard rock influences.
The debut “Like Venom” will be released this Fall through all media outlets.
“Like Venom” offers the listener a perfect balance of melodies and infectious hooks from the beginning and never lets go.
Rites of Ash have always been known for accepting nothing less than perfection when it comes to their work. Combining countless influences into a unified and original sound has helped define the band as innovators in an industry desperately lacking originality. No genre or sound is off-limits for the band; this is evident in their extensive list of influences that include Linkin Park, Billy Joel, Disturbed, T-Pain, and Lady Gaga.
Their music and live show have garnered them numerous accolades from the mainstream music industry; it has been described as “unique but mainstream, hard-hitting yet romantically suave…truly cutting-edge song writing.” (S. Diablo, MTV)
Being an unsigned band hasn’t hindered them from making their own professional music video (Burn), getting it aired on Fuse TV, releasing three studio albums, and having their music featured on over ten MTV shows including: “The Real World,” “Pimp My Ride,” and “Next.”
Rites of Ash’s live show is equally impressive, boasting choreographed lighting effects, custom-built stage pieces, and synchronized videos displayed on flat-panel monitors mounted on mannequins and video-towers.
“Like Venom” track listing includes:
Only Human, Redemption, Toxic (Her Lips Are Like Venom), Burn, Dead Side of Hollywood, Three Leaf Clover, The Sleeper, Disaffected, Breathless, Weight of My World, and Hand Grenade Heart
Check out Rites of Ash website for upcoming shows and news.

Rhino Expands Pantera’s Major Label Debut For 20th Anniversary
As A Three-Disc Deluxe Edition
With Rare And Unreleased Demos And Live Tracks
Includes Previously Unreleased Track, “The Will To Survive”
Recorded During The Cowboys Sessions
Two-Disc Expanded Edition Also Available; Both Set For Release On September 14
Ultimate Edition Featuring Replica Memorabilia
From The Era Available November 23
PANTERA found its growl and groove on COWBOYS FROM HELL, a landmark album whose bone-powdering intensity, razor-sharp riffing and pummeling rhythmic assault represented a turning point in modern metal when it was released in 1990. More than just PANTERA’s major label debut, many consider this album to be the official debut of the PANTERA lineup with singer Philip Anselmo, guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott, his brother, drummer Vinnie Paul and bassist Rex Brown.
To celebrate the 20-year anniversary of COWBOYS FROM HELL, Rhino rounds up a three-disc Ultimate Edition, a three-disc Deluxe Edition, and a two-disc Expanded Edition. All three editions include a newly remastered version of the original album along with unreleased and rare live performances from the “Cowboys From Hell” Tour.
The Ultimate and Deluxe Editions will also feature a disc of unreleased demos for nearly every album track, plus, “The Will To Survive,” a previously unreleased song recorded during the album’s sessions.
“’The Will To Survive’ is a great track. With so many killer songs, it was hard to pick and choose the ones that should make our major label debut,” says Paul. “After hearing it for the first time in about 20 years, its a pretty stellar performance and I am definitely proud that it will see the light of day for all the die hard PANTERA fans around the world! It shows the true musical diversity of the band at that time!”
The Deluxe and Expanded Editions of COWBOYS FROM HELL will be released September 14 at all retail outlets, including www.pantera.com and www.rhino.com. The Deluxe Edition will be available for a suggested list price of $29.98 (physical) and $17.99 (digital) and the Expanded Edition for $19.98 (physical) and $12.99 (digital).
The Ultimate Edition will feature all three discs included in the Deluxe Edition and will be housed in an intricate box including several replica memorabilia pieces from the Cowboys era. The Ultimate Edition will be available on November 23 and final pre-order details, as well as the contents, will be unveiled soon on PANTERA’s Facebook page <http://www.facebook.com/Pantera>.
Along with the remastered version of COWBOYS FROM HELL, all three sets include a disc of live music recorded during the tour for the album. It begins with seven unreleased performances from PANTERA’s September 15, 1990 appearance at the Foundations Forum metal convention in California, a show recorded for radio broadcast but never released commercially. The remainder of the disc contains the five-song EP Alive And Hostile, a collection of performances recorded in 1991 at the Monsters of Rock festival in Moscow that was previously available only in Australia as part of a 1994 boxed set.
The Ultimate and Deluxe Editions of COWBOYS FROM HELL include a third disc that contains the previously unreleased “The Will To Survive,” along with demos for 10 of the album’s 12 songs, including early versions of the title track, “Psycho Holiday,” “The Art Of Shredding” and “Cemetery Gates.”
After being turned down “twenty-eight times by every major label on the face of the earth,” ATCO Records A&R rep Mark Ross saw the band when Hurricane Hugo stranded him in Texas. The rest, as they say, is history, including another seven years and over a million miles of touring for COWBOYS to be certified Platinum (one million album sales) by the RIAA.
The album’s liner notes include essays by each of the band’s surviving members, producer Terry Date, and the aforementioned Ross. Recalling the first time he saw Pantera, Ross writes, “By the end of the first song, my jaw was on the floor. The sonic power of it all—the attitude and the musicianship—blew me away. Basically, you had to be an idiot to not think they’re amazing. I mean, how could you see these guys and not think, Holy shit!?”

With eight albums in eleven years, Black Label Society’ has been one of the hardest working bands in heavy metal. Order of the Black may not offer you too many surprises, but it does have a bunch of kick ass metal that BLS has been known for.
The opening track “Crazy Horse” is about the legendary Native American Crazy Horse, who fought against General Custer at the Battle of Little Big Horn. This is a ripping track with some cool subject matter. I love the rhythm on this song. The thundering drums and thumping bass is killer. Zakk’s riffs are awesome as well.
According to Zakk Wylde, he broke two blood vessels in his brain singing “Overlord”. Zakk might not be the best vocalist I have ever heard, but you have to have give him credit. I haven’t heard of another singer singing so hard that he caused himself an injury. That is as METAL as it gets. I love the Wah pedal intro on “Overlord”. I wish it would have been used in the song a little more, but this is still very cool.
“Parade of the Dead” is the first single from Order of the Black. For a three and a half minute tune, “Parade of the Dead” is packed with guitar riffs. Zakk plays his ass off, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
“Darkest Days” is the first of three piano based numbers, and is easily my favorite out of the three. (“Time Waits for No One” and “Shall Grave are the other two.) I love it when Zakk Wylde slows it down, and shows the other side of his talent. His voice might actually be stronger on the slower numbers than on the heavy ones. If he ever decided to pursue something besides metal music, he certainly has the talent to do so. I am a fan of his pre-Black Label CD, Pride & Glory, and this style always brings that southern rock style to mind.
If “Darkest Days” was too slow for you, “Black Sunday” is the face melting tune you were waiting for. Heavy riffs are in abundance in this rocker.
Zakk sounds like he stole a killer riff from Tony Iommi on “Southern Dissolution”. About mid way through this song, their is a guitar lick that is awesome. I believe Zakk should have built this song around that riff. This would have been a much better song. It isn’t bad, but not as catchy as it should be.
If you aren’t headbanging to “Godspeed Hell Bound”, your stereo must be broken. The double bass drums, and galloping bass rock hard on this song. This is easily one of my favorites on Order of the Black.
“War of Heaven” has a doom laden song that reminds me a lot of Black Sabbath. After listening to this song a couple of times, I wonder if Zakk Wylde took his inspiration for this song from the “Book of Revelation”. You have to hear the song to understand what I mean.
“Chupacabra” is Zakk Wylde’s answer to Van Halen’s “Spanish Fly”. It is a brief instrumental track that doesn’t really add much to the album.
Is Order of the Black, Black Label Society’s best release to date? While I have enjoyed this CD, I don’t think it is. I believe Black Label Society have had more memorable songs on their previous albums. Order of the Black is good, and it does rock, it just isn’t the best I have heard from BLS.

Back by popular demand, masters of the diabolical Rob Zombie and Alice Cooper will reunite for The Halloween Hootenanny Tour featuring the Gruesome Twosome with special guests (and Zombie labelmates) Murderdolls. The tour kicks off in Los Angeles at the Gibson Amphitheatre on Thursday, September 30th (please see below for tour dates). The pair recently shared the stage for a highly-successful, sold-out limited North American run earlier this year and have long been fans of one another, as well as good friends. The Billings Gazette declared, “Thousands of fans got the show of a lifetime…With elaborate multimedia stage shows and classic fist-pumping anthems, both artists brought much more to the stage than their music…the multi-sensory experience of the show will likely not be forgotten.” Charlotte’s Creative Loafing stated, “Zombie was a wildman – running around stage, flipping his hair in every way and stomping away to rev the crowd into a frenzy…Two fantastic performances…” Drummer Joey Jordison will be doing double-duty on the dates, playing drums with Rob Zombie, as well as playing guitar with his own band, special guests Murderdolls.
In other Zombie news, fans will soon get the ultimate interactive experience as their hero is joining forces with Universal Studios Hollywood to create the new 3D maze, “Rob Zombie’s House Of 1000 Corpses: In 3D ZombieVision.” As part of the Halloween Horror Nights event, fans will be treated to a nightmarish world of carnage and chaos Rob Zombie-style based upon Zombie’s cult hit film “House Of 1000 Corpses.” Vampire buffs also got a treat when the track “What” from Rob Zombie’s latest release HELLBILLY DELUXE 2 appeared in an episode of the smash HBO series “True Blood.”
Zombie enthusiasts can also look forward to the release of the special edition of HELLBILLY DELUXE 2. Set to street on September 28th, this deluxe version of HD2 will feature 3 brand new tracks called “Everything Is Boring,” “Michael” and “Devil’s Hole Girls And The Big Revolution,” as well as a reimagining of “The Man Who Laughs.” In addition, the package will include a brand new video for “Mars Needs Women” (shot during the Gruesome Twosome tour with Alice Cooper), a live version of Cooper’s classic “School’s Out” with Cooper and a 30-minute DVD featuring a tour documentary entitled “Transylvanian Transmissions,” along with all-new expanded artwork.
With more than 15 million albums sold, 7 Grammy nominations, the helming of 5 major motion pictures and dozens of music videos under his belt, Rob Zombie is a force to be reckoned with in today’s entertainment landscape. Zombie’s unique meld of horror and hard rock has influenced his sound as a musician, and more recently his vision as a director and writer.
Lock up your daughters, because Murderdolls will be embarking on their first tour in over half-a-decade. The tour arrives just in time for the band’s brand new album WOMEN AND CHILDREN LAST, which hits stores on August 31st and is also their first release in eight years. Joey Jordison and frontman Wednesday 13 will show no signs of road rust, as they dive back onto the stage, cranking out their ghoulishly glammy punk rock. Jordison plays guitar in Murderdolls, so he will most certainly be firing on all cylinders on this tour. The Murderdolls played a pair of much ballyhooed shows in Los Angeles in June; the shows incited so much interest that fans were calling the venues from all over the globe, clamoring for more information and details the moment the shows were announced. While the ‘Dolls have already invaded the UK – where they can sell out 5,000-capacity venues – they’ve got the US in their sights on The Gruesome Tour. Consider this fair warning!

Do you remember the song “Walk on Water” from the 1994 Greatest Hits CD, Big Ones? I forgot that there were new songs on this CD, and was even more surprised to find that a video was released in support of the CD. Check out the clip, “Walk on Water” below.
Have you noticed the number of VEVO channels showing up on Youtube as of late? Cinderella, Whitesnake, Tesla, Guns N’ Roses, Bon Jovi and Aerosmith, are just a few of the bands that have their own VEVO channels on youtube. The videos are higher quality than those previously found on Youtube. Check out the classic clip, “Love Ain’t No Stranger” from Whitesnake below.

After debuting their new line up to a sold-out audience in New York this past May and then traveling to Europe to devastate the masses with shows in 16 different countries in 80 days (including two shows opening for AC/DC), Germany’s legendary metal band ACCEPT will return to tour the U.S. for the first time in 14 years on a co-headlining tour with King’s X. Their first show will kick-off the eleventh annual ProgPower USA festival in Atlanta.
Guitarist & songwriter Wolf Hoffman checks in about the band’s time in Germany & their upcoming North American trek:
“Believe me, this was boot camp, but we loved every minute of it! Twelve months ago, there was nothing on the horizon that would have made us believe we would be on the stages of the world again as ACCEPT… and here we are! [New lead vocalist] Mark Tornillo inspires us to get it all out in a way we have not been challenged before. We can’t wait to be on stage with him!!!! He is the new kid on the block and he is the reason we are back again. It is such a relief, such vitamin shot!!! And if we could, we would never stop!!!”….
When asked what has surprised the band the most about their fans, Hoffman responds enthusiastically:
“NO DOUBT ABOUT IT – the biggest surprise is the way they make us feel welcomed. Of course we hoped the fans would be happy to have us back – who would not believe that about their fans? – but, what is happening here, EVERYWHERE we go, is a TOTAL KNOCK-OUT for us. WE HAVE NOT SEEN FANS SO HAPPY IN A LONG, LONG TIME.”

Baltimore, Maryland’s Sin 4 Sin recently sent us a copy of their new EP, 7 Deadly. Prior to receiving this CD, I haven’t heard of Sin 4 Sin before, so I had no expectations going into this CD. The opening song “Love Vice” quickly establishes the band’s influences of Guns N’ Roses & Skid Row, and shows a lot of promise for these Maryland rockers.
“Love Vice”, and “Fast, Hot Sleazy” are easily the best tunes on 7 Deadly. Both songs rock hard! You can hear a Sebastian Bach like growl with singer Brandon Hayden! I am glad to hear Hayden take some chances with his voice, and add some metal screams, instead of taking the easy way out like so many modern rock bands today.
Do I dare say that “I Quit Drinking (Again)” reminds me of the Beastie Boys? This song oscillates between heavy riffs, and a talking lyric by Brandon Hayden. It isn’t my favorite song on this EP, but this tune does get in my head.
The song title “She Can Pay the Bills in Ones” made me laugh the first time I read it. I bet you can guess what this song is about! This song reminds me a lot of the band The Last Vegas. With a little better production, Sin 4 Sin could have a hit on their hands with this tune.
Hopefully, 7 Deadly will get in the hands of some producers that can help out Sin 4 Sin. This band has a lot of potential. A few minor tweaks, here and there, and we could have another major hard rock band rockin’ the airwaves and concert halls!
1. Love Vice

THE BLACK LIGHT BACCHANALIA (The Age That Is To Come)
Vocalist David Defeis commented on “The Black Light Bacchanalia”:
It will be a long album…close to 80 minutes…The album (to be really brief), concerns the reversal of all things…Once conquered by invading cultures, older Pagan deities become the demons…of the new religion. “The Black Light Bacchanalia” is a reversal of the sacred sexual customs, and the final desecration of the “Goddess Principle”, switching from matrilineal descent to patrilineal descent, with the rise of the idea of the Mountain-Fire God…. And it also has to do with ancient fears such as the fear of the sun not rising…Lyrically it is a kind of continuation of the story I told on the last album…Musically it is quite something else…”
VIRGIN STEELE‘s new worldwide deal with SPV/Steamhammer includes the reissue of the band’s entire back catalogue – from “Noble Savage” onward. The back catalog will be made available throughout 2011, with faithfully restored covers and booklets, bonus tracks and liner notes.
I don’t think any true music lover will be disappointed with this album, but rather very surprised by the chance taken by Frank Hannon, the artist…

Alter Bridge sent out the following update about their new album:
If a band is going to take their name from a classic Led Zeppelin song, they better have the sound, and songs to back up the name right? Austria’s Gallows Pole definitely have a 70’s vibe going for them, but they fail to make the statement that I hope they would. Maybe it is unfair to put a high level of expectation on a band that I have never listened to before, but when you pull a name out like “Gallows Pole” you had better deliver.
Unlike the killer Zep tune, this Gallows Pole does not make the grade. Some how the songs on Revolution sound as if Tom Petty was trying to sing Nirvana songs in the vein of 70’s classic rock. That probably isn’t even a fair assessment, Tom Petty is a better singer than Lois Martin Binder. His voice just fails to excite me. His voice just doesn’t work with this type of music. Overall, the music on Revolution isn’t bad, but the songs just don’t grab me. It isn’t as revolutionary as I thought it would be.
Overall Gallows Pole has potential as a band, but Revolution will only be a building block type of release that will hopefully help them make something better down the road. Better luck next time guys!
Rating: Out of 10
1. You Are In My Way
2. Hell Again
3. Dirty Love
4. Falling Rain
6. For Lovers
8. Early Days
9. Baby Come On
Gallows Pole are:
Lois Martin Binder – Vocals, guitar
Lubi Ivic – Bass
Stefan Winkler – drums
Gunther Steiner – keys

MelodicRock Records announces the signing of Norwegian modern melodic pop/rockers Fenrik Lane for the physical world release of their new album “317” (three-seventeen) on September 17 (September 10 for pre-orders).
Fenrik Lane originate from Bergen, Norway. They have been playing together since 1997, making their debut in 1998 with the single “Shoe”, the result of coming first place in a rock competition. In 2002 they released the independent EP “Come Down Here” which sold an amazing 20,000 copies in their native country – a result of constant touring and an acclaimed energetic live show.
The band’s original vocalist was Kurt Nilsen – who entered and won Norwegian Idol, later going on to take the big price in World Idol late in 2003. Kurt then quit the band to continue his solo career.
Fenrik Lane became a trio, with guitarist Knut Glesnes taking over as lead singer, displaying a compelling and unique style of his own.
In 2005 the band released their first full album, “Lane of Life”. This time the band really wanted to sound like a trio with no additional effects. After years of hard work brainstorming every idea, Fenrik Lane has now released their second full album titled “317”.
This magnificent record contains powerful modern rock and energetic pop. The band has experimented with creative arrangements, and the outcome is an exceptional recording with a unique and rich sound. The album also includes an intense rock-version of Rihanna’s Russian Roulette.
MelodicRock Records owner Andrew McNeice: “These guys approached me with a view to get their planned indie release to me for review. They included a couple of rough mix MP3s and I was immediately captivated. The quality was so seriously good I immediately asked them if I could get involved. To my good fortune things have worked out great with the guys and I am taking on a personal challenge to try and break these guys anywhere I can get attention for them.
Production quality is nothing short of major label and there isn’t one song on the album that couldn’t be a potential radio single. It’s a more modern slant than some might expect for the label, but there is no denying each and every song has a defined and memorable chorus. Simply too good too ignore, I love these guys.”
The new single to be released is the ultra-catchy rock anthem Diamonds In The Waste, which will also be featured on the new MelodicRock.com CD Sampler: Forces of Dark & Light (out September 10).
Former singer Kurt Nilsen states: “I’m certainly looking forward to hearing the final result of what the boys have done. I’m sure it will be great!”
Fenrik Lane are:
Knut Glesnes – Lead Vocals, Guitar; Christer Unneland – Drums, Backing Vocals; John Erik Soltvedt – Bass, Backing Vocals, Piano.
Track Listing for “317”:
02) Call Her Name
03) Diamonds In The Waste
05) Runaway Car
06) Cover Your Eyes
07) Left Me Scarred
08) Hot Lips
11) Going Nowhere
12) Hate How You Say Goodbye
13) Sun Explodes
14) Russian Roulette
Not only are metal fans picking up on the fast-rising Heaven Below, but now, one of music’s most recognizable and respected guitar brands, B.C.
Rich, is now on board as well. Guitarists Patrick Kennison and Jesse Billson are longtime admirers of the guitar brand that has gone
hand-in-hand with heavy metal for decades, and now, in addition to being endorsed by B.C. Rich, Heaven Below are showcased on their website.
Included on B.C. Rich’s Heaven Below “artist page” are photos, videos, and links to the group’s official website, as well as to their Twitter,
YouTube, Facebook, Myspace pages, plus an artist bio, and a link that takes you to the preferred B.C. Rich model that Kennison and Billson
champion, the Mockingbird Special.
“Our sound encompasses the best parts of our influences,” explains Kennison. “We love the vocal harmonies of classic bands like Alice in
Chains, or the angst of legends like Trent Reznor, but our riffs and song ideas tend to be spawn from guitar driven bands like Metallica, or even
Rage Against the Machine. Once we put the vocals on, we immediately feel that our music takes on it’s own sound.” And on their self-titled release,
Heaven Below (which also includes John Younger on bass and Chad Clark on drums) shows that despite being such a young band, they can easily keep
pace with the top dogs of the current rock scene – especially on such standout tracks as “When Daylight Dies,” which was produced by
Grammy-award winning/multi-platinum artist Ben Moody of Evanescence.
With touring plans to support their debut disc being firmed up, it won’t be long until you can catch the dynamic duo rocking their B.C. Rich
guitars on a stage near you!
