MIND KEY have recently announced the addition of the new drummer Mirkko De Maio to the line-up. The band issued the following statement: “We are very pleased with Mirkko. We think he’s 100% the right man for us. His musical background, his experience (although he’s really young) and his incredible energy and taste in playing make him the perfect fit for MK”. Mind Key looks forward to present the new guy on stage and to continue the evolving musical path started with the recent release of the band’s second album “Pulse for a Graveheart”. You can have an introduction to Mirkko at www.mirkkodemaio.com
In the meantime, Mind Key have redesigned their with a new layout and a RSS Feed feature to follow every news about the band. Check it out at www.mindkey.it
Last but not least, the band started the songwriting for the third album which the guys hope to release by the end of 2011.

Swedish guitarist Magnus Karlsson (PRIMAL FEAR, STARBREAKER, LAST TRIBE) has finished laying down his parts for the forthcoming solo album from Ralf Scheepers of German power metallers PRIMAL FEAR. According to a posting on the PRIMAL FEAR web site, “Magnus delivered his guitar parts on some songs of the album and did a killer job as always. Just some more lead guitars are missing by some other great players and we’re ready to mix the album after the forthcoming [PRIMAL FEAR] European tour!”
As previously reported, powerhouse American vocalist Tim “Ripper” Owens (HAIL!, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, BEYOND FEAR, JUDAS PRIEST, ICED EARTH) will make a guest appearance on Scheepers’ forthcoming CD. Owens will be heard dueting with Scheepers in the track “Remission Of Sin”. Other guest musicians expected to appear on the album include Swedish multi-instrumentalist Snowy Shaw (DIMMU BORGIR, THERION, DREAM EVIL, KING DIAMOND, MERCYFUL FATE) on drums, Sander Gommans (AFTER FOREVER, HDK) on guitar and PRIMAL FEAR‘s Mat Sinner playing bass on the entire LP and producing. A photo shoot with Alex Kuehr for the CD’s cover took place in early July in Germany.
In a recent interview with the “Metalzone” radio show (web site) with Kostas Purevil Kyriakakis and Helena Mihailidou, Scheepers revealed that his upcoming solo album will include a remake of his song “Saints Of Rock” from Scheepers‘ pre-PRIMAL FEAR band TYRAN PACE and a cover version of “Before The Dawn’ from JUDAS PRIEST. “‘Saints Of Rock’ is gonna be, of course, a little bit more modern than it was [when the original version was recorded] in 1986,” he explained. “I mean, right now we have much more possibilities to make songs sound a little bit more modern, starting with the drum sound and the bass sounds — having a much more distorted sound.” He added, “I think ‘Before The Dawn’ pretty much is a [straight] cover — [there’s] just a little more orchestral things going on, I have more strings in the song compared to the JUDAS PRIEST [original]. Back then there wasn’t much strings going on. I think they even have a piano [in the original version], which I don’t have. I have strings and I have this atmosphere stuff going on. Vocal-wise, I just added a harmony at the last bridge before last chorus, I added a harmony which is not on the original, but that’s the basic difference.”
In a June 2010 interview with Metal Assault, Scheepers stated about the musical direction of his forthcoming solo CD, “It’s more diverse [than PRIMAL FEAR], you can say.” He added, “In the beginning I had those ballads that we couldn’t use for PRIMAL FEAR because they might be too mellow, but now we’ve started to write together on it. Basically, it’s my ideas on it, but I have a great team, with Mat and Magnus and some other members — Sander [Gommans], the ex-AFTER FOREVER guitarist, helped me a lot. It’s a good variety — from the hardest to the softest tones.”
PRIMAL FEAR recently released a new live DVD, “16.6 – All Over The World” (recorded in various locations between September and November 2009), and a live CD, aptly titled “Live In The USA”.

Frontiers Records is pleased to announce the signing of VEGA, a very exciting new Melodic Rock band from the UK, featuring former KICK vocalist Nick Workman and the successful and respected songwriting partnership of Tom and James Martin (House of Lords, Ted Poley of Danger Danger, Khymera, Sunstorm to name but a few), together with drummer Dan Chantrey.
VEGA are set to bring back the reputation of British Melodic Rock music with a strongly original sound approach that while obviously influenced by the genre’s greatest names (from Bon Jovi, to Def Leppard and Journey) adds a strong personal element that will definitely bring the band to the attention of a very wide audience.
The band’s debut album “Kiss Of Life” has been recorded under the direction of producer John Greatwood (engineer for Tom Lord-Alge of QUEEN fame), with the band selecting a total of 12 songs out of a total of 25 written for the purpose. Dennis Ward (Pink Cream 69) stepped up to the plate to put the final touches to the album, mastering it in his studio in Germany. The band has also recently finished the shooting of the first video for the album title track, which will be launched as first single in the fall.
Singer Nick Workman commented: “We are pleased and excited to be signed to Frontiers Records. We are very proud of this album and believe that it brings new vibe to the rock scene whilst maintaining the roots of all of the bands that have inspired us over the years!”
Frontiers plans to release the debut album “Kiss of Life” later this year with more details to follow later. VEGA will be out on the road in the new year taking their music to the Rock fans live on stage!

I don’t know who writes up the stickers that embrace the front of the CDs from Victory Records artist Sister Sin, but they always catch the eye of this 80’s metal fan. Sister Sin’s latest output True Sound of the Underground declares the CD as real street metal for fans of Judas Priest, Motley Crue, Scorpions & Accept. Typically, when I read this on the cover of a CD, I think to myself, “Yeah Right”, but in the case of Sister Sin, they completely nailed it. If you like 80’s metal, you are going to enjoy True Sound of the Underground!
My first taste of Sister Sin came with their 2008 release, Switchblade Serenades. I really like that CD a lot, so it was only natural that I was going to pick this disc up. Typically, I have an aversion to female hard rock singers, but this is not the case Sister Sin’s Liv. Liv often reminds me of Doro Pesch when she sings. She has the perfect metal voice, and one that really helps to drive these songs home. True Sound of the Underground blasts off with the opening numbers, “Sound of the Underground”, and “Outrage”. To my ears, these are the best songs on the album, but the all of the songs rock. If you are looking for some power ballads, you won’t find it here. The eleven tracks here are packed full of up tempo heavy metal. If anything, this album could have used a couple of slower tracks to break up the pace a little bit. A little more diversity could have given some of these songs a bigger impact. “Sound of the Underground” and “Outrage” are both awesome, as is the cover song “24-7”.
Most folks may not recognize “24-7” as a cover tune, but this is a Udo Dirkschneider tune from his 2005 CD, Mission No. X. I like Sister Sin’s version of the song better than Udo’s quite honestly. Liv’s voice is nowhere near as abrasive as Udo’s and this makes the lyrics much easier to understand.
Another highlight on the album is the headbanging tune “Heading for Hell”. This kick ass song will have you throwing your horns up in no time!
Overall, True Sound of the Underground doesn’t break any new ground musically, but if you are a fan of 80’s metal, you won’t care about that any more than I do. I believe Switchblade Serenades is a stronger disc than True Sound of the Underground, but this disc does not disappoint in the least. You can download the song “Outrage” for free at this link, and you can score a digital copy of True Sound of the Underground for only $5.o0 in the month of September here! Don’t miss this!

I have been a Jorn Lande fan pretty much from the first time I have heard him sing. To see Jorn Lande perform live is definitely on this metalhead’s bucket list. Masterplan may have come as close to metal perfection as they are ever going to get by having Jorn Lande return to the band. While the band is extremely talented in its own right, Jorn Lande’s powerhouse vocals really make Masterplan one of the better new metal acts of the last decade. Check out their killer new video, “Time To Be King” below.
Is Saxon one of the most under rated of heavy metal bands of all time? In my opinion, yes they are. Saxon has been flying the heavy metal flag since 1976, and yet aren’t anywhere near as appreciated as their NWOBHM counterparts Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, or Judas Priest. Maybe they haven’t had the hits that these other bands have had, but there is a huge catalog of music worth exploring. Check out the title track from the 2001 album Killing Ground below.
Alter Bridge is streaming their new single, “Isolation” at this link. “Isolation” is much heavier than I expected it to be, but has me clamorning for ABIII which will be released soon! Check it out!
“Hello KAMELOT Nation,
The band and crew are all here in Tampa rehearsing for the tour – Visas have been cleared and the guys are in good spirits and ready to party with all of you. However, during rehearsals, Roy became severely ill. Due to this, as yet undiagnosed, illness, Roy reluctantly has been forced to head back home to Norway. He is currently under his physician’s care, but unfortunately these circumstances will prevent him from joining us on the North American concert tour. Of course, we want Roy to take care of his health as priority one for now and for the future.
Roy especially would like to add:
“I am terribly sorry that I cannot do this upcoming tour in North-America this fall. We have our most fantastic album ever coming out in September, and the timing could have been better I guess. The band has my full and unconditional blessing to go out there and kick ass regardless, and I feel we have found a good replacement in Michael. He is a very good singer and long time friend. Be good to him! Hope to see you soon!” All the best from Roy Khan.
“Roy and I go way back, so when he called and asked me to help him and the rest of KAMELOT to do their long planned USA tour, I told him, “Sure bro, I am there for you.”
It will be big shoes to fill , but in his honor I will do my best to give the KAMELOT fans a show they have long awaited. So grab your earplugs and come join the party!”
We cannot thank you enough for your tremendous support over the years, and look forward to being out to meet more of you on the road! Please join us in wishing Roy a speedy recovery, and swift return to us!”
KAMELOT will embark on its first North American tour in two years starting September 8th. Support on the trek will come from Leaves’ Eyes and Blackguard.

The Greek melodic metal phenomenon FIREWIND, led by the young guitar sensation Gus G. has returned with the scathing new studio album effort Days of Defiance, which is easily their defining musical moment. The much anticipated disc is set for an October 25th release in Europe, as well as an October 26th release in North America. Days of Defiance is a truly ambitious and dynamic opus featuring some of the most brilliant guitar playing the genre has seen in many years.
The striking cover artwork was designed by the band’s longtime partner in all design matters, Gustavo Sazes / http://www.abstrata.net and can now be viewed below:
A special iTunes edition for Days of Defiance will feature the exclusive new track, “Riding On The Wind.”
FIREWIND’s guitarist and songwriter Gus G., currently on tour with Ozzy Osbourne in Europe, checks in with the following comment about the album and its artwork: “I’m very excited and cannot wait for our fans to listen to our new album! We feel we’ve captured great performances and took our songwriting to the next level on this one. There’s tons of cool guitar on there and I believe Bob has finally managed to reach warp-speed with his keyboard solos! Even more seriously, I highly recommend that you listen to this album at a very loud volume.
“As for the artwork, it was once again done by our visual wizard and webmaster extraordinaire, Gustavo Sazes. This time we asked Gustavo to come up with a great landscape scenery, with a more traditional approach and even get the “pencil” style of artwork on there, but also combine it with more modern stuff. So, he gave us that…with a slight futuristic, sci-fi element and I think the end result is stunning!”

2. World On Fire
4. Embrace The Sun
5. The Departure

8. Cold As Ice

12. The Yearning

The DVD shows the band playing tightly together in harmony with each other and the audience in an energetic and energizing rock concert. The filming is “fly on the wall” placing the viewer seemingly in the audience rather than in a cinema. TRIGGERSoul has inked a deal with JAMSYNC MUSIC for release of their much anticipated and delayed release RESTORATION. In 2007, TRIGGERSoul recorded their debut at Smash Hit Studios and had the dubious honor of having legendary producer Michael Wagener mix the project. RESTORATION was completed and the band ready to rage a rock n’ roll war. But the untimely death of band mate and lead guitarist Aaron Roe pulled TRIGGERSoul to a screeching halt just after signing their very first record deal. Due to Aaron’s death, the band felt it wasn’t the right time to release the project and shortly thereafter disbanded. After careful consideration, the original remaining members recently sat down and discussed finally releasing RESTORATION. After all, RESTORATION was everything to Aaron and the music is timeless so what better way to honor his memory. This is the last of recorded material by the phenomenal guitarist and songwriter. Influenced by metal bands such as Black Sabbath, Pantera, and Metallica, TRIGGERSoul forges traditional metal with melodic hard rock to create a modern blend of rock that displays great range.
RESTORATION is set for release on December 7th and features the original recordings of the explosive tracks Lost Reality and Self Destruct. Self Destruct is currently playing at this location The track listing is below.

I am now convinced that half the population of Sweden play musical instruments. There have been so many bands coming out of Sweden in the last two years, it certainly seems that way. Sweden’s latest export Glitzy Glow has a sound that mixes class rock and glam metal. The thing that makes Glitzy Glow stand out against their peers are the vocals of lead singer Julia. Julia’s strong voice gives the band a 70’s vibe on some tunes, and yet she can rock out with the best of them.
With the return of the original line-up, “Worlds Collide”is destined to make waves in the Melodic Rock world.
After disbanding over sixteen years ago, all the original members of the legendary Melodic Hard Rock quintet Unruly Child, have reunited to produce a brand new album entitled “Worlds Collide” due for release on October 15th in Europe and October 26th in the USA on Frontiers Records.
Marcie Michelle Free (vocalist – King Kobra, Signal), Bruce Gowdy (guitarist – Stone Fury, World Trade), and Guy Allison (keyboardist – Lodgic, World Trade, Doobie Brothers) are back together again and have written and recorded a stunning new cd. Rejoining Free, Gowdy, and Allison are original band members from the first record produced in 1992 by Beau Hill (Ratt, Winger, The Storm, Europe) and released on Interscope/Atlantic in 1992: drummer – Jay Schellen (Hurricane, World Trade, Asia), and bassist – Larry Antonino (Pablo Cruise).
Since the initial release of the critically-acclaimed “Unruly Child“, all the band members have successfully pursued accomplished careers in the music industry. Marcie Michelle Free, one of the world’s finest and in recent times, most renowned transgendered vocalists, first released a solo record as Mark Free entitled “Long Way From Love” in 1993 and then another solo record as Marcie Free titled “Tormented” in 1996.
While the original band may have been disbanded, guitarist Bruce Gowdy and keyboardist Guy Allison were not dormant during the past 16 years. They produced two more Unruly Child records without Free, and participated on another World Trade album with Schellen. They have also pursued other projects and their reputation as writers, performers and arrangers is second to none with experiences with the likes of Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple), Bobby Kimball (Toto), Doobie Brothers, Boz Scaggs, Air Supply and The Moody Blues. Drummer Jay Schellen and bass player Larry Antonino are a solid powerhouse rhythm section. After Schellen worked with Gowdy and Allison on World Trade’s “Euphoria” in 1995, he rejoined Hurricane with singer Kelly Hansen on “Liquifury”. He also was part of the Asia album “Silent Nation” line-up and keeps touring and recording with Asia featuring John Payne nowadays. Antonino has played with Ambrosia and Air Supply and in addition to being one of the world’s most respected bass players, he has pursued acting, with his most notable role being that of “The Wolfman” in the movie “That Thing You Do” starring Tom Hanks.
But the puzzle would not quite be complete until the awesome cover art was designed by none other than the famed, Hugh Syme (Rush, Megadeth, Whitesnake etc.). The final piece for the ultimate reunion, as he also designed the original Unruly Child debut album artwork.
“When Bruce called me, I knew what he was going to ask me before the words came out of his mouth”, says Marcie Free “ Two weeks before I had a long talk with my higher power and he told me it was time I came out of retirement to start giving back what has been given to me. So you could say it is divine providence”. “This whole record “Worlds Collide” was a surprising experience, it’s like we never left” adds Bruce Gowdy, while Guy Allison adds “While we initially thought that we’d have to try to think like “Unruly Child”, we discovered that once we got together again, it was really second nature.
One of the absolute strengths of this version of the band is how we are able to get out of each other’s way. There’s an unspoken trust between Bruce, Marcie and myself – and it allows us to bring our separate visions together perfectly. Once you add the talents of Jay and Larry to the mix, it’s like magic”.
With so much excitement centered around their new record it has sparked fires of tour talk. Something this group has never done before. Will they hit the road in Europe or the States? “We all have been talking about doing some live shows and the prospects are good that we will. We have been hearing from quite a lot of European promoters so we will have to sit down with them and plan something. It’s looking like summer of 2011 is a good possibility” tells Marcie. The band already has material in preparation for a follow up, but will likely release a remixed, remastered and updated version of “Tormented” with bonus tracks and new material before breaking ground on the next record.
Unruly Child are also in the process of securing the rights to their first record for a future re-release.
The group, in its constant state of evolution has generated an exciting new album reflecting its musical roots in contemporary and classic rock sensibility. With the return to the original line-up, they have discovered that while time may pass, some things never change. In their case, that’s a good thing. The future looks very promising for the rebirth of Unruly Child.
“Worlds Collide” final tracklisting includes:
The songs “Very First Time” and “When Worlds Collide” can exclusively be listened to in full by streaming on the Frontiers Web Radio from August 31st.

AOR fans rejoice with “Perfect World” in October
The news of Strangeways reunion with American singer Terry Brock leaked when the announcement of Firefest 2010 festival line-up was launched with the inclusion of the band in the “Native Sons”/”Walk in the Fire” line-up on the bill. This came as a big surprise to many, since probably very few people would have hoped to see Brock crossing the ocean again and even less could think of a brand new Strangeways recording with the singer together with guitarist Ian J. Stewart, new bassist Warren Jolly, drummer Jim Drummond and keyboard player Dave “Munch” Moore.
Still the Strangeways reunion is now reality and the newly recorded studio album “Perfect World” will be released on Frontiers Records on October 15th in Europe and October 26th in the US.
Turning back the clock in 1986, Strangeways released their self titled debut for Bonaire/Arista Records. “Strangeways” received rave reviews, particularly from the british press which saw the potential for the band to break on to the US market. By the time the album hit the shops, original singer Tony Liddell had already been replaced by Brock who was persuaded to join the band by the album’s producer Kevin Elson (Journey, Europe etc.). Strangeways toured intensely supporting Europe, Bryan Adams and Meat Loaf but it was the following year’s “Native Sons” album that chiselled in stone the name of the band, who produced a full-blown melodic rock masterpiece, hailed by Kerrang! magazine as “the greatest and most preciously perfect AOR album of all time”.
In 1989, even if ‘Native Sons’ didn’t sell as well as the critical acclaim gathered, Strangeways recorded a third album titled ‘Walk In The Fire’. The band wanted to have a more personal approach, less leaning to the Journey sound of the previous record. The result was truly superb, a big step further compared to “Native Sons”. Still today songs as “Love Lies Dying”, “Every Time You Cry” or “Where Are They Now” are considered by the fans some of the most beautiful songs ever in british AOR style.
Strangeways were finally starting to see rewards from touring, particularly in Germany but after Brock flew to the US to secretly audition with Deep Purple to replace Ian Gillan, he never returned to the UK and left the band. Three more very different Strangeways albums followed with Ian Stewart at the microphone: “And The Horse” (1995), “Any Day Now” (1997) and “Gravitational Pull” (2000). All of them saw Strangeways exploring a more atmospheric and rootsy style which had nothing to do with the previous three albums.
Terry Brock in the meanwhile started a solo career which produced two acclaimed releases (“Back to Eden” and the very recent “Diamond Blue”) and collaborated with The Sign, Seventh Key and Giant.
“There was no real plan for Terry and I to work together again, it just kinda happened” says Ian Stewart. “With the Firefest gig offer and Frontiers showing interest in another Strangeways album it all just seemed to fall together naturally. The relationship with Terry is probably better than it’s ever been, which I think is down to the fact that we’re both older and dare I say wiser”.
“Perfect World” takes from where “Walk In the Fire” left off, with the band finding an even more mature musical identity, an amazing sense of spacious melodies and of course the magic voice of Terry Brock which connects the music with the classic Melodic Rock sound of “Native Sons” and “Walk in the Fire”.
“I honestly couldn’t really describe the “new” sound as such, it’s just honest melodic heart and soul rock music, good tunes played with attitude and feeling” concludes Ian Stewart.
Don’t miss their performance at Firefest 2010 hoping it will be the first of a long streak of dates.
