The only singer I have ever seen that could come close to matching Ronnie James Dio’s vocals on the classic Black Sabbath tune “Heaven & Hell” is Ray Gillen.  Check out this clip with the late Ray Gillen on vocals live from Montreal in 1986.

During that year on the invitation of producers Tom Galley and Wilfried Rimensberger, Ray Gillen recorded 4 tracks with Phenomena on their Dreamrunner album, which united his exceptional vocal talent with the ones of Glenn Hughes, Max Bacon and John Wetton on one album. Critics at the time wrote that this album unites the best rock voices of the mid 80s, emphazising Ray Gillen’s incredible vocal range, freshness and dynamic. Ray was scheduled for Phenomena’s first ever life performance at the second Lorelei Metalhammer Festival planned for 1993 but had to pull out because of his illness.
