ABOVE SYMMETRY‘s debut full-length album “Ripples” was recorded in their home-studio in Skien, Norway, and later on mixed and mastered to sonic perfection at Fascination Street Studios in Sweden by Jens Bogren, who has previously produced bands such as Opeth, Paradise Lost, Hammerfall or Symphony X. Bogren was obviously impressed by the potential of the young musicians and comments on “Ripples” as follows: “The debut album from these guys is one of the best progressive metal albums I’ve heard in a looong time! Since 1992, to be exact! It was an honor helping the band getting the album the way they deserve.”
By the end of 2010, the band’s energetic front man had entered the “X Factor Norway” TV show / contest, which was broadcasted with large national buzz and despite the massive amount of competition in talent shows such as this, Atle was runner-up on the show’s finals, a testament to what a great singer and performer he is. “I never expected to do so well,” he commented after the results were announced. “It’s been a lot of hard work but a lot of fun though, and the publicity surrounding the show has also been helpful in raising the band’s profile in our home country.”
ABOVE SYMMETRY additionally checked in with a status report on their current activities as follows:
“It’s been a busy year for our front man Atle since he finished X-Factor in Dec 2010 with a fantastic 2nd place. He is working hard and constantly booked on TV shows and various other projects. Of course we are proud of him, as it will introduce our band and our music to a far bigger new audience. Nevertheless we are already starting to work on new material as we speak and plan to have the follow-up album written and ready by end of the year. For now we are also very excited that Atle will sing with Kamelot in Oslo in front of thousands of fans – another step to get our music heard! We would like to play a one-off show in Oslo in summer and are working on a few festival appearances, so fans have a chance to see us live again at last.”
Atle’s guest appearance with Kamelot takes place on May 14th, 2011 at Sentrum Scene in Oslo, Norway.

NEW ALBUM J.F.L. IN STORES MAY 23rd ON NIGHTMARE RECORDS
Santa Clara, California’s LoNero have confirmed a CD release show for in support of their new album”J.F.L.”, which will be released May 23rd on Nightmare Records. The show will take place May 10th at Avalon in Santa Clara, CA. Also on the bill are Japanese metallers Loudness. Guitarist and founding member Bill Lonero commented on the upcoming show:
“LoNero is really excited about our CD release show with Loudness. We’ve worked really hard on “J.F.L.” and we can’t wait to play it live and get fan feedback. For us, playing live is what it’s all about. There’s nothing more satisfying then getting instant crowd reaction!”
LoNero gave birth to Guitarcore with their first release “Relentless” in 2007. Fourteen tracks of punishing rhythms and strong melodic hooks. From the time “Relentless” was released, musical barriers were not only broken, but shattered! Fans of nearly every genre responded with more enthusiasm than the band could have ever imagined which gave even stronger resolve to LoNero’s idea that the melody and song should be the most important aspect whether it’s instrumental rock or not. Guitarcore is about the song, the band and the fans! No limits, no borders, no nonsense. Unlike most instrumental rock artists whose songs are a seemingly endless display of solos, LoNero chooses to focus on rhythm, groove, verse, chorus and melody. Their songs are constructed as if a vocalist is going to sing over them. As Guitar Player magazine stated “(LoNero) claims to have invented Guitarcore so you should really hate them! But you can’t because they’re just so damn good!”.
LoNero’s vision and drive is evident in their 2011 release “J.F.L”. This time with the talents of Grammy Award winning producer/engineer Michael Rosen (Metallica, Joe Satriani, Santana, Papa Roach, Rancid, Testament, Todd Rundgren and many many more). Recorded entirely at LoNero’s rehearsal/recording studio, J.F.L takes Guitarcore to an even more refined level. With such songs as “Little Bastard”, “Eden”, Downside” etc, LoNero proves groove and melody are still king. Not only has LoNero created Guitarcore, but with “J.F.L.” they introduce “Punkstramental”. With a nod and wink to bands such as The Ramones and Social Distortion, the punkstramental songs “Fat Tat” and “Good Luck” keep the punk vibe alive within an instrumental format. It is truly something truly unique within the instrumental genre.
With “J.F.L.”, LoNero continues to move forward and forge new ground while still retaining integrity and honesty in their music. Something that is tantamount to what Guitarcore stands for.

After a fifteen year absence, The Electric Boys reunited, and have delivered their fourth album, And Them Boys Done Swang.
The band mates of Electric Boys didn’t exactly disappear during the bands hiatus. Connie Bloom and Andy Christell have been playing in Hanoi Rocks, and released a great album, Street Poetry in 2007.
So how does And Them Boys Done Swang stack up? In my opinion, I believe the band has cranked out their best album since their classic debut, Funk-O-Metal Carpet Ride.
And Them Boys Done Swang sees the Electric Boys return to their funky roots. The music on this CD is a mix of funky glam rock, 70’s psychedelia and classic hard rock. The majority of the songs are positively upbeat, fresh and highly listenable. This is definitely one of the more interesting albums I have heard in 2011.
Some of the highlights includes the rockin’ opening cut “Reeferlord”, the infectious “Father Popcorn’s Magic Oysters” (see video below), the Beatles-like “Ten Thousand Times Goodbye”, the silly yet fun “The House is Rockin” and the super funky “Sometimes U Gotta Go Look For the Car”.
And Them Boys Done Swang is one of the surprise albums of 2011. This is a highly entertaining album, and a disc worth checking out. Don’t miss this!

Here´s an update from the LIZZY BORDEN camp:
“2010 was an amazing year for LIZZY BORDEN touring in Europe, Japan and the States with our “Appointment with death show“. The festivals and headline dates in every country were all very special to us in one way or another. This was all possible due to our very well received “Appointment With Death” record.
We created two epic video’s that aired on MTV (one of which was nominated for video of the year on headbangers ball) and a brand new stage show that proved to everyone that this was a new era for Lizzy Borden. The Appointment with death show and record took a giant leap forward into a whole new generation of fans all around the world. (Don’t miss our year end summary video). We are now in the writing process for a new Lizzy Borden record as well as new video’s and a brand new stage show soon to follow.
Because we do not wish to repeat ourselves we are taking our time with this new release to make sure we create songs that inspire us for the visual medium as well as our usual audio mayhem. This new record is already heading in a more (individual) song oriented direction, and it is my hope that we end up with at least ten new songs that can stand on their own and will be the soundtrack for our new generation of Lizzy Borden fans, all the while satisfying our dedicated fans who have been with us from the beginning.
We learned so much from last year in what you want from us from switching songs in and out of the set based on reaction, all of that is starting to feed into the writing for the new record. At one point last year we had seven songs in the set from “appointment with death” and the only complaint we had was to play longer! It is our strong desire that we have that same problem for our upcoming release.
Because we want this new release to be very special and something very different than anything we have done before we are on the hunt to find the right producer that can understand the misunderstood. Finding that “right producer” may be the biggest task we have at hand.
Having said all of the above, we can’t stay off the stage for too long or we will start to go studio-crazy, so you just may find us out and about playing shows in 2011 while we work on the new record, possibly here and there all over the world. Please check-in to our facebook fan page for upcoming shows and more recording updates throughout 2011.
We hope to see you all very soon!”
I have four words to describe the new Voodoo Circle album, Broken Heart Syndrome, ALBUM OF THE YEAR!!!
2011 has already hosted some pretty good releases. Broken Heart Syndrome is better than all of them. Let me repeat that, BROKEN HEART SYNDROME IS BETTER THAN ALL OF THEM !
This CD is packed with fantastic vocals, stellar guitar work, and songs you will feel the need to play loud.
When Alex Beyrodt mentioned to me that he was working on a new Voodoo Circle album, after a Primal Fear gig in 2010, I had no idea that it would be THIS good.
With Voodoo Circle’s second effort, the band has taken the music in a classic hard rock direction that sounds like a blend of Whitesnake & Rainbow. From the heavy numbers, to the slower bluesy numbers, Alex Beyrodt and company have delivered a batch of tunes that will electrify your auditory cortex into sheer bliss!
I have been praising singer David Readman for years. I have been telling anyone and everyone that would listen to check out his band Pink Cream 69. After hearing Broken Heart Syndrome, the gentlemen in Pink Cream 69 may have to find a new vocalist. This may be the best Readman has ever sounded. His vocals enhance the incredible guitar work of Mr. Beyrodt like no other. There are many bands out there today, where I feel the guitar player and singer, work like a Yin and Yang to each other. I believe Alex Beyrodt has found the perfect vocalist for his band.
Alex Beyrodt has played on some cool releases in the past. His previous work in the bands Silent Force, and Sinner all have music worth investigating. In the case, of Broken Heart Syndrome, Beyrodt may have given career defining performance.
The opening tune “No Solution Blues” sounds like a blend of Sykes era Whitesnake . Alex Beyrodt blows my mind on “King of Your Dreams” where he shows off his skillful Ritchie Blackmore like playing. “Devil’s Daughter” taps into the soulful bluesier side of hard rock. Beyrodt’s playing on “Devil’s Daughter” makes the hair stand up on my arms. This is truly amazing stuff.
“Blind Man” has a really cool 70’s vibe. Beyrodt’s guitar tone on this song sounds very Hendrix like. This is a slow number, but a very impressive tune in it’s own right.
I don’t know how anyone could listen to “Heal My Pain” and not have a smile on their face. This is a short, little upbeat rocker with a great beat, and is kind of catchy too.
“The Heavens are Burning” is another amazing Rainbow inspired number that flat out rocks.
It will take a legendary effort to surpass this music found on Broken Heart Syndrome in 2011. The men who form Voodoo Circle may wear their influences on their sleeves, but when they put together an album as convincing as this one, I could care less.
Don’t miss out on, what I consider to be, the best hard rock record of the year! Highly Recommended!!

Two-Disc Set, Notes From San Francisco, To Land May 17 Via Eagle Rock Entertainment
Lavish Package Includes Never-Before-Released 1979 Concert!
The story goes that Jimi Hendrix was once asked what it was like to be the greatest guitarist in the world, to which he replied, “I don’t know, go ask Rory Gallagher!”
Rory Gallagher (1948-1995) is simply one of the all-time guitar greats. Slash, The Edge, Brian May, Johnny Marr, Janick Gers, Ritchie Blackmore, Glenn Tipton and Vivian Campbell have all said it. Since practically inventing the Power Trio format in Taste (both Cream and Taste debuted in 1966), Gallagher’s music has stood the test of time and he’s as popular now as he ever was, his influence gargantuan.
The story of Rory’s lost San Francisco album actually starts in Japan. In November 1977, after a grueling six-month world tour, the band flew straight from their last show in Japan to San Francisco to begin working on a new album with famed American producer Elliot Mazer (who worked on Neil Young’s Harvest, Big Brother & The Holding Company’s Cheap Thrills and The Band’s The Last Waltz). Mazer recalls the sessions grew “tense,” as Gallagher thought the mixing process “too complicated.” By the end of January 1978, he had shelved the whole record and broke up his band of the past five years.
Fast forward to 2011 when Rory’s brother/manager Donal allowed his son Daniel to recover the album from the Gallagher archive and begin the process of mixing it with his engineer. Rory said in 1992 he hoped the album would surface one day but only if it were remixed. Bingo. Hearing this historic never-before-issued studio album from a key period of Gallagher’s career (the album that would have been released between Calling Card and Photo Finish) is the Holy Grail for Rory’s fans.
CD #2 is another fabulous discovery: a blistering live album taken from four December nights in 1979 at San Francisco’s The Old Waldorf. In the audience Van Morrison, on stage Rory Gallagher (guitar/vocals), Gerry McAvoy (bass) and Ted McKenna (drums). Daniel Gallagher chose to add the live side to highlight why Rory chose to shelve the studio album and reduce his band back down to a three-piece. Rory, after seeing The Sex Pistols at Winterland during final mixes for his own album, was struck by the stark drama and blunt primitivism of pure punk. “It was as close to Eddie Cochran as you’re going to get,” he enthused. He had been saying that he wanted to get back to what he called “meat’n’potato rock’n’roll,” a stripped-back primal raw immediacy hearkening back to his Taste days.
A street has been named after him in Paris; a corner in Dublin; a statue in his Ballyshannon birthplace, where The International Rory Gallagher Tribute Festival is held. There’s a Rory Gallagher Place and Rory Gallagher Music Library in Cork. Annual tributes are held in Germany and Japan. The man has sold in excess of 20 million albums. Notes From San Francisco [MSRP $17.98] will be a worthy addition to his canon.

Ever since I first heard Enuff Z’nuff was giving away copies of their latest album Dissonance at Rocklahoma in 2008, I have been trying to get my hands on a copy. While I never tracked down one of the original versions, I was glad to find that the 2010 version released by Rock Candy Records in the UK has a few songs that were not on the original CD.
I have been a fan of Enuff Z’nuff for a long time, and when I found out that former Ozzy Osbourne & Badlands guitarist Jake E. Lee was handing the guitar duties on Dissonance, I knew I had to find a copy.
The title track “Dissonance” starts off the album in fine fashion. This is a heavier Enuff Z’nuff tune that has a 70’s hard rock vibe in the vein of KISS & Alice Cooper. It is a cool tune to start the album with.
I thought “Fine Line” was just an ok tune, but there moments when Jake E. Lee flashes his skills on guitar that makes me change my mind. I wish he would break loose more often on Dissonance.
It disappoints me to know that very few radio stations will play a cool song like “Rollaway”. This song has a cool, almost Beatle-esque vibe to it. “High” is one of the heavier numbers on Dissonance. The chorus on “High” reminds me a lot of the Beatles “Day Tripper”. It is much different lyrically, but has a similar style.
Enuff Z’nuff is from Blue Island, Il, just south of the Windy City. Their tune “Chicago” is a pretty cool ode to the city they love.
One of my absolute favorites on Dissonance is the song “Code Red”, which is only available on the Rock Candy records version of the CD. This song sounds like a blend of Enuff Z’nuff and Motley Crue. It super catchy, and if they did a radio edit, this song could easily be a hit single for E’nuff Z’nuff.
The cover of Prince’s “When Doves Cry” is kind of cool, but does not surpass the original version of tune. The Enuff Z’nuff version is heavier, and Jake E. Lee shreds on this song towards the end. Very Cool!
If I have any complaints about Dissonance, it is the editing job that the folks at Rock Candy did. The song titles were completely jumbled up from what was listed on the back of the CD. Aside from that, I have found Dissonance is a very enjoyable CD from Enuff Z’nuff.
It never ceases to amaze me how great the song writing duo of Donnie Vie and Chip Z’nuff is. The songs on Dissonance are well written, and get in your head. The music on this CD is great. Jake E. Lee shows some flashes of brilliance, but mostly plays within the context of the songs. In my opinion, Dissonance is a must own disc for all Enuff Z’nuff fans and is a CD that should be checked out by everyone else.
Oddly enough this CD was released in Japan, and the UK, and still has not had an official U.S. Release. Hopefully, a smart U.S. label will pick this up, and distribute it. Until then, you can purchase the digital downloads of Dissonance at Amazon and iTunes, and the CD’s through the Rock Candy Records store on Ebay.
You can hear the songs “Lazy Dazy” and “Dissonance” on myspace. Check ’em out!

“This Is Gonna Hurt: Photography And Life Through The Distorted Lense Of Nikki Sixx” (William Morrow) Arrives at #4, While Sixx:A.M.’S “Lies Of The Beautiful People” Comes in at #5 at Rock Radio
The already two-time New York Times bestselling author Nikki Sixx’s latest offering, “This Is Gonna Hurt: Photography And Life Through The Distorted Lens Of Nikki Sixx” (William Morrow) has just bowed in the #4 spot on The New York TimesBest-Sellers list. Written as a tribute to Sixx’s institutionalized sister, the book (and companion album) explores what true beauty is and embraces our own power around that. Written entirely by Sixx with no ghostwriter, the book is part journal, part memoir, and part social commentary and features his original photography. Sixx is currently on a national book-signing tour, please see below for upcoming cities/dates. He continues to host his syndicated radio program Sixx Sense and The Side Show Countdown With Nikki Sixx (www.sixxsense.com).
“In a world of YouTube overnight sensations, Nikki Sixx has shown that he is quite the contrary. A two-time bestselling author, rock icon, and overall creative force, Nikki comes into his syndicated radio show, Sixx Sense, every day with the intent of raising the quality bar higher than even the day before. He is an inspiration to us and his fans and a testament to hard work, creativity and originality and it shows in his #1 ratings in his time slots in markets like LA, Denver and Portland. With his second Top 5 single and second bestselling book, it’s a pleasure to be working with one of the most talented and creative minds in entertainment today,” said SVP Programming for Premiere Radio Networks Jennifer Leimgruber.
Sixx’s “other band,” Sixx:A.M. is currently enjoying success with the track “Lies Of The Beautiful People.” Also entitled THIS IS GONNA HURT, the album is due out May 3rd via Eleven Music. Sixx:A.M. is James Michael (vocals), Dj Ashba (guitar) and Nikki Sixx (bass).

“I am grateful and inspired that I have the opportunity to touch people in a unique way with my book THIS IS GONNA HURT and with the music I create with James and D.J. in Sixx:A.M. Traveling around the country, meeting fans and hearing their stories in person and on my radio show has reenergized my commitment to creating honest and inspirational content that not only serves my own creative purposes but can help and touch others as well,” said Nikki Sixx.

Sixx’s book signings have become emotional experiences frequently lasting until well after store closing. Sixx embraces the feedback from his fans and often engages in conversations that he says is as helpful to him as his work is to his fans. See what they are saying to Nikki…
“Nikki, you are such an inspiration to others and I think that it is great that you are willing to share your life history. I work with adolescents who have turned to substance abuse in order to deal with their trauma and your book ‘The Heroin Diaries’ helped me realize why they used to escape and find comfort in using. I am excited about ‘This Is Gonna Hurt.’ Nikki, I have a lot of respect for you as a person and I think you’re a great!!!!!”
Cherie (Queensland Australia):
“I watched every episode of several of your subjects (i.e., the Goddess Bunny) after I Google’d and found an 11 part documentary. I cried through a lot of them and felt there were similarities between us. I have never been comfortable in my own skin either. I have been just about every stage from chubby to fat to morbidly obese in my 45 years of life. I even attempted suicide at one stage. I have been called everything from ‘pig in lipstick’ to ‘the fat chick’ to ‘lard-ass,’ and many others. I am only coming to terms with myself as I get older and discover how much I am truly loved. You have been a very positive influence on my life with your tweets and Facebook page. You try to keep things positive and in turn, I have tried to stay positive as well. It’s not always easy, but that is one of the goals I have. I believe I am influencing others to see the positive as well, watching how many followers I now have on Twitter increasing daily. Thank you for the inspiration Nikki. You are a true treasure as a human being. I’m so glad you were revived after your OD so you can continue to inspire us in the days and years to come. Much respect and love.”
“Nikki, just want to say thanks for all the great music. You inspired me to play bass guitar. You also inspired me to beat my alcohol addiction. I now use your experience and mine to teach my daughter that you can have everything in life if you work hard and believe in yourself. Thanks again and keep making great music.”
“Do you actually realize just how MANY people you are helping?! (Not just addicts) You’re a true inspiration. On May 9th, it will be 3 years since the death of my best friend/husband from a heart attack related to a cocaine overdose. We had been together for 23 years (he had been clean for 25)… he left me alone w/ our two young sons (9 and 2 1/2 @ the time). I’ve never really felt anger, just devastating remorse… and questions… OMG, the questions! But… after recently reading (your book), you’ve opened my eyes to so much… THANK YOU!!! I’m forever thankful for your insight and honesty. You’ve given me a ‘peace’ that I couldn’t seem to find elsewhere. So thankful you are still around for your children and that you’re inspiring and teaching others that ‘Life Is Beautiful.’ I think I “got it” now… truly ‘got it.’ THANK YOU.”

When I first saw the old school metal logo for Malison Rogue, I immediately thought this would be another band with a late 80’s hard rock sound.
The talent pool in Sweden runs deep, and it seems there is no end to list of cool new bands that call Sweden their home. The music that has been coming from over there has been excellent as of late. Malison Rogue’s music is no exception.
What I didn’t expect about Malison Rogue’s was their sound. I figured they might be another glam or sleaze act, and I couldn’t have been more wrong.
This band was formerly known as Ashes, and changed their name to Malison Rogue when they signed with Inner Wound Recordings. To me their new moniker is much more memorable, as is their sound. They are a band with a sound that reminds me a lot of classic Queensryche, and Fates Warning. The bands that even remotely sound like either one of those acts in 2011 is a very short list. Needless to say, I was pretty impressed with the tight musicianship found on this disc.
On Malison Rogue’s self titled debut, you will find great vocals, well composed songs, and music that will appeal to many hard rock and metal fans!
After giving the song “Friend or Foe” a spin, I was immediately hooked on this band. This is a killer metal tune that will have you signing along in no time. The rest of the songs on this CD are packed with more traditionally styled metal tunes that make my ears happy. I am thankful that are some new bands out there that are keeping the killer 80’s metal sound alive. Malison Rogue joins a new list of bands like Enforcer, Steelwing, and Holy Grail that are trying to bring the classic metal back.
My only disappointment with this CD is, it is a little too short. With eight songs clocking in just shy of 40 minutes, I felt like this CD could have used another song or two. With that being said, this is a very solid debut, for Malison Rogue, and this disc left me wanting to hear more.
Lead Singer Zeb has the potential to become one of the great metal singers of the 21st century. His voice is that good! Don’t believe me, check out Malison Rogue on myspace, and find out for yourself! You will be glad you did!
