One of the releases I am most looking forward to in May, is the new CD from Black Stone Cherry, Between the Devil and Deep Blue Sea. “White Trash Millionaire” is just one of the many cool songs on this disc. Check out the new video clip for “White Trash Millionaire” below!

Today at Hard Rock Hideout, we are going to do something that we have never done before. We are going to review a CD from a band from……..wait for it………… Sweden. All kidding aside, Die For Diamonds is the new debut effort from Billion Dollar Babies.
Pure Steel Records calls this band a cross between Motley Crue and KISS. I wouldn’t call that a completely accurate description. To my ears, Billion Dollar Babies sounds like a mix of Black N’ Blue, The Poodles and Mamakin. Whichever way you look at it, their new CD does rock. The songs are a bunch of fun rockers that would make a very good Friday night party soundtrack.
Die for Diamonds is a solid debut for Billion Dollar Babies, and one that rock fans should take note of.
This CD is powered by the songs “Boys Night Out” (my personal favorite), “Lose It”, and “Key To My Heart”. The songs are well written, catchy, and will likely appeal to most Swedish glam fans, and a bunch of 80’s hard rock fans as well.

Who Cares? I care! Look at this stellar lineup of the new Ian Gillan project, Who Cares!
WHO CARES is the renewed musical union between legendary DEEP PURPLE singer Ian Gillan and none other than BLACK SABBATH‘s Tony Iommi: the undisputed master of heavy guitar riffs — will release its debut digital single will be release May 6th via Eagle Rock Entertainment. The physical cd/dvd single will be made available in Europe on May 24 through earMUSIC and June 27th in North America via Eagle Rock Entertainment.
The single features two brand new studio tracks “Out Of My Mind” and “Holy Water”, which will raise funds for the rebuilding of a music school in Gyumri, Armenia. The 2 Song – CD single will also contain the video clip of “Out Of My Mind” and a 40-minute documentary that shows Gillan‘s and Iommi‘s involvement with the Armenia cause over the years.
Speaking to Armenia’s Mediamax news agency, Gillan was asked what the experience of working with Iommi again was like compared to their previous collaboration.
“It was great to work with Tony again,” Gillan replied. “He is very easy to write with and as a singer I know exactly where he’s going. It wasn’t dramatic, just friendly and professional.”
He added, “We hope to do it again sometime in the not-too-distant future.
“It wasn’t like the last experience with BLACK SABBATH; that was a band and an album — totally different.”
When asked how the inspiration for the song “Out Of My Mind” came out right after he visiting Armenia in October 2009, Ian said, “Well, normally… people like us who work with bands write the bits that we play. In this case, with ‘Out of My Mind’, Tony presented the entire musical idea and I wrote what I sing over the top, or along with it, if you prefer. The second track of the WHOCARES single, ‘Holy Water’, was a bit different as I wrote that with Steve Morse (DEEP PURPLE) and Tony was gracious enough to play guitar on it.”
Both Gillan and Iommi have spent a lot of time in Armenia, fallen in love with the country and the people and have dedicated a lot of work to a nation still shocked after the earthquake that struck Armenia on December 7, 1988.
The collaboration of Gillan and Iommi, who have worked together before on the SABBATH album “Born Again”, is in itself an incredible news for all rock and metal fans and will be the best of surprises to get to know who is completing the band: None other than Jon Lord (“Mr. Hammond”, partner with Gillan on all the DEEP PURPLE classics), IRON MAIDEN drummer Nicko McBrain, ex-METALLICA bassist Jason Newsted and HIM guitarist player Mikko “Linde” Lindström are also featured on the two new songs.
Commented Gillan: “The idea came as Tony and I flew back from Yerevan together after being inspired by the enthusiasm of everyone there to get this thing done.
“It was brilliant working with Tony again after all these years; he makes life easy for a singer.
“The other guys need no introduction, do they?!”
Added Iommi: “Some twenty years ago when the call came, I thought, well at least I’ve helped, but it was going to Armenia and seeing the actual devastation caused by the earthquake that really made me realize that funds were still needed.
“Despite all the money that was raised last time, here was a music school doing their best, forgotten, in basic tin sheds. After the warmth and honor bestowed upon us during our visit, we just had to help make a difference and get the school rebuilt. And what better way than to hook up with some of rock’s greatest players and my old mate Ian, both an honor and a pleasure.”
“Out Of My Mind” recording lineup:
* Tony Iommi (BLACK SABBATH) – Guitar
* Ian Gillan (DEEP PURPLE, BLACK SABBATH) – Vocals

TO CELEBRATE THEIR 30th ANNIVERSARY IN ROCK BY RELEASING NEW ALBUM DEDICATED TO CHAOS THIS SUMMER
BAND TO TOUR THIS SUMMER IN SUPPORT OF NEW ALBUM
Queensrÿche announced hat their new album will be called Dedicated to Chaos and will be released on June 28th in North America. Other territories will be announced soon.
It’s the band’s first effort for its new label, Roadrunner Records/Loud & Proud. The band – featuring Geoff Tate, Michael Wilton, Eddie Jackson, Scott Rockenfield and Parker Lundgren — is currently planning a tour in support of the new opus, which was recorded in its native Seattle. Tour dates and information will be released when available.
“Modern life moves fast,” commented frontman Geoff Tate about the album. “Plug into the rhythm of the now with our 12th studio album, Dedicated to Chaos. It’s a clash and slash of musical experimentation anchored by the pulse of digital code.” He did issue one suggestion to listeners as well, saying: “Enjoy – headphones are a must.”
Queensrÿche’s 1988-issued album Operation: Mindcrime is universally respected as a classic concept release about rock, revenge and redemption, which is ultimately regarded as one of the most important and essential hard rock records in the genre’s expansive canon. 1990’s follow-up, Empire, yielded a #1 single, the Grammy-nominated ballad “Silent Lucidity,” which the band performed at the 1992 Grammy Awards accompanied by a supporting orchestra.
In 2006, the band released Operation: Mindcrime II, a scorching sequel to their original. The band then hit the road performing both albums Operation: Mindcrime and Operation: Mindcrime II back-to-back in their entirety in an incredible theatrical presentation throughout the year. The final performance was recorded at The Moore Theatre in Seattle that October and the Mindcrime at the Moore double CD/DVD release debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top Music DVD Chart and eventually reached Gold status.
The band is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year and Dedicated to Chaos marks a new and riveting chapter in Queensrÿche’s already impressive history that fans will not want to miss.
And the chaos has just begun.

I have to admit that I was a little slow to catch on to the band Destrophy. I stumbled upon their video, “The Way of Your World” and thought this was a pretty cool tune. Check it out below!
Next week I will be travelling down to Columbia, Maryland to enjoy this year’s M3 Festival (http://m3rock.webs.com) . Last year I attended the festival for the first time and was very glad to have done so. The food was great, the beer was cold, the fans were awesome, and the music was amazing. Sure, the weather was hotter than a Jenna Jamison flick, but I survived. This year, with the festival taking place in mid-May, the weather should be gorgeous, which will only add to the greatness of this festival.
I enjoy road trips. I especially enjoy road trips to a music festival. I’ve already determined what albums I’m going to listen to on the way down to Columbia, and when those albums aren’t playing, I’m certain that I will have Hair Nation dialed in on satellite radio. While I’m cruising down the highway blasting the latest from Whitesnake and Hurtsmile, I’ll also be thinking about the things I am hoping to see at M3.
KIX is headlining the opening night of the festival, and they are one of the bands that I am really looking forward to. Their performance at last year’s M3 was superb, and this year they get a headlining slot, which means a full set of KIX. In their home state of Maryland, this is going to be one awesome performance. I hope that they will dust off some rare gems, but I would be completely satisfied with a standard set of expected classics.
Warrant will be performing on the main stage just before KIX, and I think they are getting a full 90 minute slot as well. If that’s true, that would be wild. I hope to hear some songs from their new disc and I really hope they play some songs from Ultraphobic. That is one Warrant album that just doesn’t get enough attention. With lead singer Robert Mason in tow, Warrant is guaranteed to give a performance to remember.
On Saturday, the full day part of the festival, I am obviously excited to see Whitesnake. I have never seen this band live before, so their headlining performance to close out the festival is going to be a real treat. I want to hear a few new songs from their latest album, Forevermore. I hope that they don’t just play the current single. Forevermore is too good to ignore some of the other tracks. Other than that, a set of hits similar to last year would be fine by me. Other fans may not agree, but hey, it’s my first time enjoying live Whitesnake.
I haven’t seen Tesla live in many years, so I am looking forward to their set, which is right before Whitesnake. Basically any song that Tesla plays is going to be good, so I don’t even need to speculate on that set list. I’d like to see Mr. Big play a lot from their new album, but I have a feeling that it will be one or two songs at most. Their time slot is probably only 45 minutes, which really limits the songs that can be played.
I have no expectations for Lita Ford or Sebastian Bach. I think that they are both over the hill and I’m not sure if they can bring it in the live setting. Perhaps they will prove me wrong, but I doubt it. Every time I’ve seen solo Bach, it’s been pretty horrendous. As for Lita Ford, I’ve never seen her live, but I also haven’t listened to any of her music since 1989.
I am really hoping that Faster Pussycat plays their cover of “You’re So Vain.” Their version is one of my favorite cover songs of all time and I would just mess my pants if they played it live. It would make the festival for me. Perhaps if I get the chance to talk to the band, I’ll put in a special request.
I am also looking forward to seeing Gary Cherone’s latest project, Hurtsmile. I’m sure they will perform a lot of their songs, but I expect some Extreme songs mixed in as well. Maybe we’ll get really lucky and Gary will throw in a track from Van Halen 3, but I highly doubt that. It would be a real treat though.
All in all, I think this year’s M3 festival is going to be even greater than last year. The lineup is solid and the festival runs like clockwork, which leads to almost no waiting time in between bands. I am just counting the days until May 13th. To this hair metal lover, it’s like waiting for Christmas to arrive!
Frontiers Records is pleased to announce the signing of DEF LEPPARD for the release of the upcoming live album MIRROR BALL on June 17th in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, June 20th in the rest of Europe and June 23rd in France.
MIRROR BALL is Def Leppard’s first ever live album. The group’s spectacular live shows, filled with powerful melodic rock anthems, have become synonymous with their name, leading Def Leppard to be heralded as an institution in both the music and touring industry. It makes perfect sense that the band would finally release a live album, MIRROR BALL, featuring all of the triumphant hits that continue to make Def Leppard one of the most admired rock bands in the world.
MIRROR BALL was recorded across the world over the course of many of the band’s sold-out dates and features all of the classic songs that have made Def Leppard one of the most respected and beloved power rock bands in the world. The album captures the group’s legendary concert experience at its thunderous best, bringing together live versions of classic Leppard hits such as “POUR SOME SUGAR ON ME,” “ROCK OF AGES,” “FOOLIN’,” “HYSTERIA,” “PHOTOGRAPH” and an incredible rendition of “BRINGING ON THE HEARTBREAK.” With their creative juices at full flow, the band has also added three new studio tracks: “UNDEFEATED,” “IT’S ALL ABOUT BELIEVIN'” and “KINGS OF THE WORLD,” that are undeniably Def Leppard and take their place with ease within this classic setlist.
Joe Elliott says, “I’m really happy that we’ve been able to include three brand new songs on the album, all VERY different from each other & a teaser of what our next studio album will be like. We could have waited until next year, but to be quite honest, we’re so excited with the new songs we want people to hear them now!” Rick Savage adds, “The 3 new songs on this release are what Def Leppard is and has always has been about. These songs are not just thrown in to have something not heard before. Personally, I think it’s THE best work we have put together in years. From the “Sugar” quality of “Undefeated” to the Hysteria/Animal melodic rock of “It’s all about Believing,” to the ambitious and over the top epic, “Kings of the world. “The message is in the titles. If ever you needed reminding, the heartbeat of Leppard is as strong as ever.”
Also included will be a 50 mins. bonus DVD that contains energetic live performances and intimate backstage footage of the band captured on the road.
MIRROR BALL follows the band’s 2008 studio release, SONGS FROM THE SPARKLE LOUNGE, which debuted at #5 on the Billboard Top 200, marking the group’s highest chart position in the USA since 1992’s ADRENALIZE.
With more than 65 million albums sold worldwide and two prestigious Diamond Awards (Def Leppard are one of only five rock bands to have two consecutive 10 million plus selling albums in the U.S. – the others are The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Van Halen) to their credit, Def Leppard – Joe Elliott (vocals), Phil Collen (guitar), Rick “Sav” Savage (bass), Vivian Campbell (guitar) and Rick Allen (drums) – continue to be one of the most important forces in rock music.
Over the course of their career, the band has produced a series of classic groundbreaking albums that set the bar for generations of music fans and artists alike. The group’s spectacular live shows, filled with powerful melodic rock anthems, continue to sell out venues worldwide. Their epic live show and arsenal of hits have become synonymous with their name, leading Def Leppard to be heralded as an institution in both the music and touring industry.

I am looking forward to the may USA tour. We haven’t played any shows since December and i have some pent up energy that needs to be released before I go mental. Also, it’s been a while since we played America and I am excited that we will be hitting some of our favorite places like Chicago, NY…etc. I can’t wait to see all of our fuckin’ awesome fans again.
True rock legends such as UFO are characterized not only by the fact that they have added several classic anthems to the annals of rock history, but that their musical output, after many years, still remains at such a consistently high level and they always have something new and fresh coming up. With classic albums such as “Phenomenon”, “Force it” and “No Heavy Pettin” Phil Mogg, Vinnie Moore, Andy Parker and Paul Raymond still sound vital and imaginative to this day.
UFO’s global breakthrough came when German guitarist, Michael Schenker, joined the fold in 1973, having left his band the Scorpions to accept an offer from Phil Mogg and Pete Way. UFOreleased three consecutive rock classics with Schenker (“Phenomenon” (1974), “Force It” (1975) and “No Heavy Pettin'” (1976)), featuring classics such as: ‘Doctor Doctor’, ‘Shoot, Shoot’, and ‘Rock Bottom’. Following the arrival of keyboardist/rhythm guitarist Paul Raymond, UFOreleased the albums “Lights Out” (1977) and “Obsession” (1978), which included the hit singles ‘Too Hot To Handle’, ‘Lights Out’ and ‘Only You Can Rock Me’. Their live release “Strangers In The Night” came out in 1979 and is still considered to be one of the best live releases of all time, unfortunately, this also brought about the end of the Mogg, Way, Schenker, Parker & Raymond line-up.
The reorganized band underwent fifteen years marked by various eras and numerous line-up changes. To everyone’s surprise, autumn 1993 saw the return of the former UFO line-up consisting of Mogg, Way, Schenker, Parker and Raymond. This new edition of the classic team released the album “Walk On Water”, their first joint effort after in over fifteen years and they embarked on a world tour. However, Schenker left UFO again during the “Walk On Water” tour to continue working with his own group, MSG, while Mogg & Way went on to release their second album, Chocolate Box. The UFO album “Covenant and Sharks”, recorded by Mogg, Way and Schenker, arrived at the stores in 2000 and 2002. Vinnie Moore soon joined the band and recorded songs for the new album “You Are Here”which also featured Jason Bonham taking over the drumming duties. During the subsequent world tour, UFO recorded a show in Germany, which was later released as the live album, “Showtime”, as well as a DVD featuring additional bonus material. In 2006 left UFO to join Foreigner and was replaced by UFO’s original drummer, Andy Parker for their release “The Monkey Puzzle” In 2009 UFO released the critically acclaimed album “The Visitor”.

No, it isn’t a new clip, but I am very excited about seeing Mr. Big in less than two weeks. “Green Tinted Sixties Mind” is a pretty cool tune in my opinion. I am hopeful that this is one of the songs in the Mr. Big set list at the M3 Rock Festival.
To celebrate the re-release of Pearl Jam’s 2nd and 3rd albums (VS. and Vitalogy), the band is giving one lucky fan a chance to win an Epiphone Les Paul Custom guitar!

Will Mötley Crüe prove me wrong? The high price of concert tickets in 2011 has kept me from buying tickets to the New York Dolls, Poison and Mötley Crüe this year. The band released the press release below about the up and coming tour. The band will apparently play a bunch of songs they haven’t played in quite some time. Tommy Lee is going to unleash another of his crazy drum kits this year. I don’t think he has performed on one of his over the top drum kits since the Dr. Feelgood tour. Is this enough to merit spending 90 or more dollars on a ticket? I don’t know. After hearing today’s announcement, I am a little more interested in seeing Motley Crue perform.
I may have to suck it up and buy a ticket. Are you going to see Motley Crue this year?
Check out the press release below.
Mötley Crüe, one of the world’s most iconic rock bands, hosted a special gathering at Bamboozle last night revealing details about their summer tour. The unveiling included images and a description of their new set design, the set list decided by fans and a surprise announcement of Tommy Lee’s “360” drum rollercoaster.
We’re looking forward to being together again and to a really special production. It will also be cool to sing some of these songs we haven’t performed together in almost 20 years,” said front man Vince Neil.
The band’s veteran production manager and set designer, Robert Long, presented graphic renderings of the new set design, which he described as “a hard-hitting Crüe rendition of a rock n’ roll burlesque theatre.” According to Long, the entire stage will be enveloped in red velvet drapery and a damask printed wall of guitar amps.
Continuing to integrate the input of their fans, Mötley Crüe conducted a survey by listing every song they have ever recorded. Fans voted at Mötley.com for the final set list, which includes tracks band hasn’t performed live together in almost 20 years.
Mötley Crüe’s drummer Tommy Lee shared that he will once again be thrill-seeking on the Crüe’s new “360” drum rollercoaster. During his drum solo, Lee will be launched into multiple loops while continuing to perform.
The initial tour announcement by Nikki Sixx, Tommy Lee and New York Dolls’ David Johansen was made on the syndicated radio show, Sixx Sense with Nikki Sixx Tuesday March 1st at 7:00pm local time (check www.sixxsense.com for a list of stations).

Nixx Sixx’s other band, Sixx A.M. is back with their sophomore effort, This is Gonna Hurt. I have been anxiously awaiting to hear the follow up to 2007’s The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack.
Once again, Nikki Sixx proves that he is one hell of a song writer. The songs, and the music on This is Gonna Hurt, seems like a step above the stuff found on the band’s debut. This is Gonna Hurt feels like a more cohesive album. The Nikki Sixx narratives are gone. This CD is 100% rock although the style on the CD bounces around quite a bit. This CD is packed with that tunes that are sometimes modern rock, sometimes alternative, sometimes heavy but always good.
The album opener and title track “This is Gonna Hurt” is one of the heavier numbers on the disc. This is a super catchyrocker that ought to be the second single off of the CD.
The tempo slows down a little for “Lies of the Beautiful People” (see video below) but this hit worthy tune does a good job maintaining the pace of the album. This is a great song that is going to get a ton of airplay.
“Are You With Me Now” is a very infectious modern rock tune. The lyrics will have you signing along in no time.
When I hear the huge voice of James Michaels on “Live Forever”, it blows my mind that this guy wasn’t a force in music before Nikki Sixx found him. His vocals are quite impressive on “Live Forever”.
“Smile” is a slower number that find its way on some Pop/Rock stations. This song has an almost Beatle-esque quality to it, with some incredible music that includes piano/keyboards and violin.
Would you believe the song “Oh My God” has an almost Journey like sound to it? Listen to guitar riffs on the song, and see what I mean! DJ Ashba sounds like he was inspired by Neal Schon on this tune.
Overall, I am very pleased with the music on This is Gonna Hurt. DJ Ashba plays his ass off on this CD, and James Michael’s voice is as strong as ever. If Nikki Sixx keeps releasing material this strong, he may find even more success in the band that bears his name. This is definitely a CD worth picking up. Check it out!
If you would like a free taste of This is Gonna Hurt, you can download the song “Lies of the Beautiful People” for free from Amazon.com.
Check back on Friday for Hard Rock Hideout’s This is Gonna Hurt listening party!

Following last Saturday’s (April 23) first U.S. “Big Four” concert in Indio, California, the “Big Four” bands of 1980s thrash metal — Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax — have announced that they will perform in the new version of the famed Yankee Stadium in Bronx, New York on September 14, 2011. All seats are reserved for this show and tickets go on sale Friday, May 6 at 10:00 a.m. via Ticketmaster.com.
Check out this classic video “Take It Off” from King Kobra. This song is from the CD King Kobra III, on which Johnny Edwards was the singer.
Singer Olof Lindgren and bassist Axel Karlsson split from the Swedish glam band Overnight Sensation in 2009 to form the killer new band Distorted Wonderland. Lindgren and Karlsson both sang back up on Hardcore Superstar’s self titled album in 2005. This inspired them to move into a new direction, and form Distorted Wonderland.
With no surprise, Distorted Wonderland’s sound reminds me a lot of Hardcore Superstar, Crashdiet, and a dash of Skid Row. Their sound is definitely not unique, but the tunes on their debut album rocks hard.
“Raised on Rock N’ Roll” (See Video Below) quickly makes it’s point, and lets you knew Distorted Wonderland is here to rock your face off.”
“In For A Thrill” is absolutely a killer tune. This high speed rocker, is one of the best tunes on CD. Every time I hear this song, I want to hit replay. This is a fun tune that I wouldn’t recommend playing while driving. You might see red and blue flashing lights in your rear view mirror.
It is the background vocals on “Waving The Flag” that absolutely drives the song home for me. This song sounds like it is right out of the 80’s.
The album closer “Tangerine” is a terrific way to close out this album. This song is ridiculously catchy, and is one of my favorites on the CD.
I am glad to see yet another band from Sweden delivering quality hard rock for the masses. If you are a fan of the Swedish sleaze rock bands out there, you ought seek out Distorted Wonderland. This is an impressive debut from the band, and is a CD, that that is going to get a lot of plays for this listener. You can purchase the CD, at this link.
