German power metallers PRIMAL FEAR will enter the studio in early July to begin recording their as-yet-untitled new album for an early 2012 release via Frontiers Records. The band states, “The songwriting session was a blast and we’ve never recorded a better pre-production.” PRIMAL FEAR recently asked fans to submit suggestions for the new CD title and has received more than 500 responses.
The band will take a break from the recording sessions for its new album to play at Germany’s Wacken Open Air and Geiselwind festivals in early August. Also in the works are three shows in Poland in early September.
PRIMAL FEAR recently extended its deal with Frontiers Records for two more albums after releasing the last two CDs through the label — 2007’s “New Religion” and 2009’s “16.6 (Before The Devil Knows You’re Dead!)”. The band says, “Never change a winning team!”
PRIMAL FEAR last year released a live DVD, “16.6 – All Over The World” (recorded in various locations between September and November 2009), and a live CD, aptly titled “Live In The USA“. Frontiers Records issued the two products separately and as a limited-edition combo on June 22, 2010 in the USA. The DVD is filled with an abundance of extra materials, such as an entire bootleg section with funny moments on the road, bootleg footage from various festival appearances and other concerts, all of PRIMAL FEAR’s most recent promotional videos, plus the making-of footage for “16.6” and a brand new interview section about the past, present and future of PRIMAL FEAR.

When Black Country Communion released their debut album last fall, they sent many rock critics into a frenzy, and much praise was received for their first effort. I was not as enamored with BCC’s debut as my peers, but I thought to myself, “Man, if these guys stick together, they could release something really special”. I just didn’t expect it to happen THIS fast.
Black Country Communion’s new CD “2”, is far better than the debut. Everything has improved on “2”. The song writing, the music, and the vocals are absolutely fantastic. Black Country Communion quickly prove they are here to rock. The album begins with the face-melting anthem, “The Outsider”. The hard-driving riffs of Joe Bonamassa paired with the amazing rhythm section of Glenn Hughes and Jason Bonham is absolutely superb. Glenn Hughes vocals are at the same high level as his days with Deep Purple. To think he sing like this at age “59” is simply amazing. Hard rock music just doesn’t get BETTER than this.
“Man in the Middle” is another riff heavy rocker that does a good job at keeping the pace of the album going. It is a catchy rocker that grows on you with multiple listens. (Check out “Man in the Middle” in the video below.)
To my ears, the best song on 2 might just be “The Battle For Hadrian’s Wall”. This acoustic number not only shows off the fret work of Bonamassa, but features his vocals as well. The first time I heard this song, it brought Led Zeppelin to mind. I don’t know if Bonamassa is influenced by Jimmy Page or not, but there is definitely a Zeppelinesque feel to this amazing song.
Was Paul Rodgers a stand in on “Ordinary Son” ? This song has a Bad Company like feel to it, although it somewhat heavier than most of Bad Company’s music. Bonamassa and Hughes both share the vocal duties on this impressive tune. I can only imagine that song is an intoxicating experience live.
“Smokestack Woman” is a rockin’ number that should have been released as the first single. This is better tune overall than “Man in the Middle”, and has tons of radio potential.
I am a sucker for good bluesy rock, and Joe Bonamassa’s playing on “Little Secret” is pure blues brilliance. Bonamassa truly shines on this song.
Overall, I am extremely pleased with “2”, and feel it is a much better album than the debut. Black Country Communion shows to the world what the title “supergroup” is supposed to mean. The band has put together an amazing effort with their sophomore release, and is one of the best rock records of 2011. I highly recommend picking up “2”. You won’t be disappointed!
“2” was released in UK via Mascot Records today, and will be released on Tuesday in the US by J&R Adventures. Don’t miss this!!

It has been well noted long before M3 was booked that Great White has been using a variety of singers filling in for Jack Russell. The band has used Jani Lane, Paul Shortino & more recently Terry Ilous from XYZ.
Quite honestly, I didn’t know what to expect from Great White. Their performance could have been a complete train wreck without Jack Russell.
In my opinion, Great White was a pleasant surprise at M3. Not only did Terry Ilous do a good job singing those Great White tunes, but he was fun to watch. Ilous didn’t seem like a substitute singer at all. He was having a great time singing those classic Great White tunes. He seemed to have a very good chemistry with the band.
Great White performed all of the hits you would expect including: “Lady Red Light”, “Save Your Love”, “Mista Bone”, “Rock Me” and “One Bitten Twice Shy”.
While we wish Jack Russell a speedy recovery, it is good to know that Great White is in good hands with Mr. Ilous. Check them out live if you get the chance!

Glen Bridger was born in Albany, MO and grew up in the Kansas City area. He started playing guitar at the age of 13 after hearing the band Van Halen, whose influence is immediately recognizable in Glen’s playing today. He was awarded a scholarship to play baseball in college, but by his senior year he decided that he would rather play music than baseball and left college to pursue his music career.
Glen developed his guitar playing skills by studying magazines like “Guitar World” and “Guitar For The Practicing Musician” which helped him land the lead guitar spot in several of Kansas City’s top bands including Faze One, and London Drive before joining Head East as their lead guitarist as well as writing new material with them. Glen’s songs “Me and My Whiskey” and “One night” have already been added to the Head East set list.
“Bridger” is an exciting new band featuring some great musicians such as vocalist Terry Ilous, who has a naturally powerful voice that will just blow the speakers. This debut features straight ahead rockers that smack of Great White and Mr. Big as well as softer numbers such as “Live for the moment” and “I’m Free”. There is also the fantastic “Don’t Push Me” which is like a cross between Head East and Journey. After a slow intro this song then rips out with great guitar and keyboard interplay. Bridger also perform a very credible version of Dio’s Heaven and Hell.
Bridger is a fantastic album; it is so good to see that the US anthemic rock sound is still very much alive.

The tragic death of Bon Scott, AC/DC’s flamboyant front-man in early 1980 sent shockwaves throughout the rock music community. Progressive titans Dream Theater have announced the title/release date of their new album.
The recent announcement that Mike Mangini would be joining Dream Theater, replacing departed drummer Mike Portnoy caused such fanfare that Mangini was a trending topic on Twitter, second only to England’s Royal Wedding. Now, the band is revealing more information about their upcoming album. The new album is titled A Dramatic Turn of Events. The much-anticipated platter, which marks Mangini’s recorded debut, will be released via Roadrunner Records on September 13th and will be supported by a massive world tour.
“I’m incredibly psyched with the way this album came out and can’t wait to share it with everybody,” guitarist John Petrucci, who also serves as the producer for A Dramatic Turn of Events, said. “We are currently in the mix stage with the great Andy Wallace and it’s all sounding amazing!”
“We have poured our hearts and minds into the creation of this album,” keyboardist Jordan Rudess offered. “All the life changing events that surrounded us before, as well as during the whole process, fueled our desire to dig deep within ourselves and create the best music we possibly could.”
Vocalist James LaBrie said, “In the grand scheme of Dream Theater’s career, the last several months have been such an incredibly positive, fulfilling and rewarding experience. The new songs and sound has never been so spirited or rejuvenating. I cannot wait for every one of our fans to sink their audio senses into this batch of tunes.”
The track listing for A Dramatic Turn of Events is as follows:
On the Backs of Angels
Build Me Up, Break Me Down
Lost Not Forgotten

The Shaman’s Trance

About DREAM THEATER:
Progressive metal band Dream Theater formed in 1985 under the name Majesty by John Petrucci, John Myung and Mike Portnoy. Though a number of lineup changes followed, the three original members remained together along with James LaBrie and Jordan Rudess until September 8, 2010, when Mike Portnoy left the band. In October 2010, the band held auditions for a new drummer, and added Mike Mangini to its roster.
Dream Theater’s tenth studio album, Black Clouds & Silver Linings (Roadrunner Records), was released on June 23, 2009. It entered the U.S. Billboard 200 at #6 and Eurochart Hot 100 at #1, marking their highest entry on either chart. Black Clouds & Silver Linings – a highlight of their 25-year career – was praised by Mojo magazine’s Paul Elliott: “…their lofty ideals remain intact. By modern criteria, Black Clouds & Silver Linings is as highbrow as The Mars Volta, as grandiose as Muse and as heavy as Metallica.”
The legendary progressive metal masters have sold in excess of 10,000,000 records and DVDs worldwide.
The Answer has released a new video “Rock N Roll Outlaw”. This is a cover of the classic Rose Tattoo song. “Rock N Roll Outlaw” is on the soon to be released 412 Days of Rock N Roll DVD. Check it out!

In 1990, Whitesnake embarked on a World Tour in support of their (then) latest album, Slip Of The Tongue. One of the stops made during that tour was in Donnington, Berkshire England as headliners of the Monsters Of Rock Festival. Their fateful headlining performance was recorded with the intention to release a live album the following year. Unfortunately for Whitesnake fans, the live album was shelved and never heard from again…until now. Whitesnake has released a double live album (and a companion DVD) of the entire Donnington concert and their fans should rejoice. This live set is amazing!
Back in 1990, Whitesnake was at the peak of their stardom. Three years earlier they had released their biggest album to date, the self-titled Whitesnake that went on to sell millions of copies. Their follow up, Slip Of The Tongue was just as grand, and featured new guitarists Steve Vai and Adrian Vandenberg (replacing the much beloved John Sykes), along with Rudy Sarzo on bass and Tommy Aldrige on drums. This was an entirely different lineup than the one that recorded the magnificent eponymous CD. Slip Of The Tongue would be the last Whitesnake album released in the US for 18 years. That is part of the reason that fans were anxious to see the Donnington CD get an official release. The other part of the reason is because the performance was one of the best the band has ever done.
Opening with “Slip Of The Tongue” and coming out onstage with rampant energy, Whitesnake proved immediately what headlining rockers should do at a festival. While it was expected that the band would play a few tracks to help promote their new album, the classics were plenty and arrived early as well. “Slow And Easy,” “Slide It In,” and “Cheap And Nasty” all showed up toward the beginning of the set, much to the delight of the fans.
Key moments throughout the live CD set include both Adrian Vandenberg’s guitar solo as well as Steve Vai’s. Both of these gentlemen are exceptional guitarists in their own right, and I often forget that they were in the same band for a brief time. Hearing the stunning work that they put into their respective solos was a real treat to the musical ear. If for no other reason (even thought there are plenty) these solos make this album worth owning.
A magnificent version of “Ain’t No Love In The Heart Of The City” complete with the audience serenading the band shows up in the encore just before the show stopping, “Still Of The Night.” This one-two combination is an exceptional way to close out a concert and had me yearning to see the band live again. I only wish that I could build a time machine and see this rendition of Whitesnake live on stage. However, since time travel has not become available without a flux capacitor, plutonium, and a boatload of money, we will just have to settle for the next best thing — Whitesnake Live At Donnington 1990. This 2-disc set is worth every penny that you spend on it.

Their time has come! The classic gems of modern day Iron Maiden are finally being collected on a late era only, 2-disc compilation. Donning their hits from 1990 – 2010, Iron Maiden has released a 2-disc set of powerful songs tilted From Fear To Eternity. The title is a nice word play off two of Iron Maiden’s better known hits from the early 90s. From Fear To Eternity is a great tribute to latter day Iron Maiden songs that seem too often to be ignored.
Obviously the fans love the classic material. If you’re seeking a collection of Maiden’s 80s hits, Somewhere Back In Time was released in 2008 and can be easily found. However, if you’ve been wondering what the band has been up to lately, but haven’t picked up any of their newer albums, this is the collection for you.
Not since 2005’s Essential Iron Maiden set have this many post modern Maiden tunes been available in one collection. Combining classics like “Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter” with modern smashes like “These Colours Don’t Run” is excellent work. And while there are some key tracks that have been excluded (most notably “Futureal” from Virtual IX), the songs that are included pack quite the wallop.
Some of the key moments on this 2-disc collection of hits come from the past decade of Maiden greatness. “Coming Home,” “For The Greater Good Of God,” and “Paschendale” all show the brilliance that Maiden has recently crafted. If you haven’t given the newer music a chance, then this is a fantastic way to reintroduce yourself to the band. The last four Iron Maiden studio albums have all been brilliant and some of the best tracks from each of those discs are captured on From Fear To Eternity.
Another nice inclusion is the rare B-side “Man On The Edge” live with Bruce Dickinson singing lead vocals. I’m not sure what tour this was recorded during, but it was nice to hear Dickinson’s take on the song. However, the decision to not include any songs that Blaze Bayley sang on comes as quite a disappointment. His rendition of “Afraid To Shoot Strangers” is exceptional and it would have been nice to see a few songs with his vocals featured on this set. As it is though, the band opted to only include the Bruce Dickinson versions of all the tracks.
As happens with any greatest hits package, there are bound to be debates over the songs that were not included in the final cut. Both “Wildest Dreams” and “The Final Frontier” are surprising absences on From Fear To Eternity. Other missed opportunities include: “From Here To Eternity,” “The Angel And The Gambler,” and “Journeyman,” just to name a few.
Overall From Fear To Eternity is a great collection of repackaged material. It you own the entire Maiden catalog, feel free to skip over this set. If you’ve missed out on some of the latter material though, then this is the perfect album to catch you up.
U.S. fans can get free downloads of the songs, “The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg, and “The Wicker Man” at this link. Check it out!!

Check out our Photo Gallery below from Slaughter’s performance at the M3 Rock Festival on Saturday, May 14th, 2011.
Slaughter made their third annual appearance to the M3 Rock Festival in 2011. Ok, so they technically played at three m3 Rock Festivals. Two thirds of Slaughter was Vince Neil’s backing band in 2010.
I have to admit that when I saw Slaughter at the first M3, I was pretty disappointed. Every band has its bad day, and I was hoping they would be better in 2011. Honestly, they weren’t better. Mark Slaughter’s voice wasn’t at it’s best, and that made for what I considered a somewhat lopsided performance. On the flipside, Zoltan Chaney is an absolute beast on the drums, and he is a hell of a lot of fun to watch, as is Dana Strum who always has his hair flying, and making crazy faces while playing. The band played the songs you would expect including “Spend My Life”, “Burning Bridges”, “Take Me Away”, “Wild Life”, “Up All Night”,and “Fly To the Angels”. At one point in the show, Mark Slaughter made his way into the stands while singing, which was much to the joy of many fans.
Overall, Slaughter attempted to bring it at M3, but I thought they fell a little short. I was somewhat disappointed in their set, but it was one of the few low points at M3, so who am I to complain. For another perspective on Slaughter’s set, check out Ryo’s opinion here.

Infinity is a monster project that was recorded back in 1986/87 featuring AOR star vocalist
Mitch Malloy and Red Dawn/Rainbow/Billy Joel keyboardist David Rosenthal. For one
of the many reasons seen in the music industry, the record was never released at the time,
but after 20+ years will finally see the light of day.
The 9 tracks that make up this lost classic are nothing short of blinding keyboard driven 80s
melodic hard rock, with vocals that need to be heard to be believed!
The rest of the line-up consists of various session guys, including one very young Reb Beach
What’s special about this release is the fact that the ninth track didn’t really exist until last
month. The song Liar was never completed back in 1986, but the song was recently
resurrected from the original tape it was recorded on, repaired enough to become a true
backing track, with Mitch Malloy adding a brand new lead vocal and drum track from his
studio in Nashville.
Mitch Malloy comments: “I nfinity was basically me and Dave and we used different guys to
play on the tracks. It was 1986-87. I was a kid. So was Dave. I was singing in clubs in Jersey
and making a name for myself and looking for a real band and he was looking for a singer.
R ainbow had just broken up and he was wanting to be in his own band. I was sick of playing
the clubs and looking to step up and it worked out. We had some fun and wrote some songs
and never got signed so we both moved on to different things. It’s exciting for us that this 22
year old music is finally going to be heard. We worked hard on it and were very proud of it.
And for how old I was and for the time I am still very proud of it. It’s really my first real
recording sessions ever. Dave and I had a lot of laughs and a lot of fun and we worked very
hard to make out music as good as we could possibly make it. And I think it shows.”
Infinity will finally see the light of day in October. All of the tracks are exclusive to this
release and have never been released before.
