Unlike what the 1990’s music trends and industry dictatorship tried to establish, Rock n Roll doesn’t have to be self-pitiful, innocent and pale.
After years of stage and studio hard work building a proudly ruined reputation – gathered on renowned acts within the Portuguese scene like Dawnrider, Divine Lust or Attick Demons – J.P. “WildHearted” Costanza, Rick Rivotti and Tony “Rattlesnake” Misfortune eventually clashed with each others and decided to team-up. Under AFFÄIRE moniker they’re fulfilling an urge remaining since teenage days, coming up with the band that Portugal owes to the world since the 80’s.
By late 2011, the debut single “Born Too Late” was released in 7” vinyl format, limited to 300 handnumbered copies. Short after that, Filipe “Rooster” Cascata is announced as AFFÄIRE singer.
Four restless characters driven from 70’s Punk Rock street decadence, fuelled by NWOBHM rush, finally crashing on the Sunset Strip glamour & sleaziness.
AFFÄIRE was born too late and proudly raises their middle-fingers to the music trends and to whatever the next-big-thing is. No ‘nu’! No ‘alternative’! No shame!

Sebastian Bach has released a third video in support of his latest CD, Kicking & Screaming. Check out the brand new clip “I’m Alive” and “Tunnelvision” below!
On April 18th, Europe released their 9th CD, Bag of Bones. If your only knowledge of Europe is the band’s mega pop metal “The Final Countdown”, you may find yourself disappointed with the band’s latest opus. This is not a pop metal CD. This is a real rock record! For you classic rock fans, Europe has offered up a tasty block of well executed rock that will sound amazing on your turntables, or “gasp” mp3 players.
Europe’s latest long player has a classic, more bluesy feel to the music. There are moments when I hear little bits of Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin influence in the music, and I think that is really cool. I love the classic approach that the band took for this album. John Norum dishes out some excellent riffs, but also offers up a variety of styles which shows just how versatile of guitarist he is. Joey Tempest’s voice is as strong as ever, but I think he smartly refrains from going after those super high notes. That makes no difference on the songs on Bag of Bones, as Tempest often proves he has plenty of gas in the tank. He delivers another great vocal performance.
Bag of Bones is more of a guitar oriented album, but the music also has some excellent keyboards in it too. Mic Michaeli’s playing reminds me a lot of Jon Lord on this album. His keys and bluesy approach really enhance the songs on Bag of Bones.
There are plenty of rockin’ cuts on this disc including “Riches to Rags”, “Not Supposed To Sing the Blues”, “Firebox” and my personal favorite “Doghouse”. There really isn’t a bad song in the bunch. This is the type of album that you can listen to beginning to end, and will want to hit repeat afterwards. Bag of Bones may be a bit of a grower for some, but if you give this one a fair chance, I think you will enjoy it quite a bit.
While Bag of Bones has not had an official release in United States, you can still purchase it at a reasonable price from Amazon.com at this link.

I have just learned that Rock City Angels front man, Bobby Durango has passed away. Rock City Angels posted the following message on their Facebook page:
The Rock City Angels are no stranger to rumors. There is no shortage of outlandish tales attributed to the band that, while entertaining and bizarre, are just patently untrue. We wish we could tell you all that the most recent story circling around was just another fabrication … another rock n’ roll tall tale. We can’t. Yesterday we received the shocking news that our founder, singer and beloved brother Bobby Durango passed away.
Whether you knew Bobby in the flesh, only knew him online or just listened to his music, all of our lives are emptier today without him. And as for those rumors we talked about earlier, even we don’t know all of the details yet, so out of respect for his family it would be greatly appreciated if we could all refrain from posting any personal theories about the circumstances and instead celebrate the man’s life. He certainly left us an amazing soundtrack.
