No, I am not talking about the humble abode of the Columbian pop star. House of Shakira is a swedish rock band that has been around since the mid 90’s. Like most bands, they have had some personnel changes over the years, and Andreas Novak (ex Mind’s Eye / Novak), Basse Blyberg (bass) and Martin Larsson (drums) have helped to reinvent the band in 2012.
The band hasn’t been on our radar, but judging from the songs “Zodiac Maniac”, “Carry My Load”, and the recently released “Midnight Hunger” that are on House of Shakira’s latest CD HOS, this is something we will be adding to our music collection in the near future. Check out House of Shakira online at http://www.houseofshakira.com/index.htm. You can pick up their new CD HOS at Amazon.com.

Polish female-fronted heavy metallers CRYSTAL VIPER take you back to the middle ages and inquisition with their brand new video clip “Witch’s Mark”.
The new CRYSTAL VIPER album “Crimen Excepta” was released on April 27th.
Blasting out a sound that is a little Taddy Porter, a little Airbourne, and a little American Bang, The Treatment have released a solid hard rock debut entitled This Might Hurt. Although the members of this band are very young, they pack a talent that most veterans of the hard rock scene would kill to have. Formed in Cambridge in 2008, this UK band has unleashed an epic record that fans of hard rock are going to love. Although new to me, this amazing beauty was released in February of 2011, forcing me to wonder why I haven’t heard this great music sooner.
Led by the gritty, sleaze vocals of lead singer Matt Jones, This Might Hurt captures all of the elements that a great rock record should have; superb guitar riffs, a solid bass, mighty, rhythmic drums, and an energetic lead singer that puts his all into every song he sings. The twin guitar attack of Ben Brookland and Tag Grey is so magnificent that it’s hard to believe these young men are recently out of their adolescent years. The lead solos and riffs performed by Brookland and Grey are utterly superb and help to solidify each song on This Might Hurt as exceptional rock and roll fun.
My lone complaint centers on one of my favorite songs on the record. “Nothing To Lose But Our Minds” is certainly one of This Might Hurt’s best songs, but unfortunately, the opening riff is so eerily familiar of a Marvelous 3 tune, that it almost feels as if The Treatment borrowed too heavily from the great late 90s band. It may not be exactly the same, but it’s a little too close for me to call it original. However, Led Zeppelin made a living off “borrowing” riffs, so I suppose I can give The Treatment a pass. The rest of the song, as well as the rest of the album, is clearly theirs.
The rock never stops on This Might Hurt. From the opening notes of “Departed” to the ending of “I Will Be There,” The Treatment has structured each song as an incredible ride for the ears. Layered with plenty of ear candy, This Might Hurt is a strong debut record from a band with plenty of talent and skill.
Be sure to keep your eyes on The Treatment. As they start to gain more notoriety and name recognition, it is certain that everyone will be talking about them in the near future. This young, hungry band is too good to ignore. If they can put together some extensive tour dates, and continue to open for acts like KISS and Motley Crue (which they will be doing this summer), everyone will know who The Treatment is.

One of the bands I got to see for the first time at Rock on the Range, is New York City’s Eve to Adam. I liked their set at Rock on the Range a lot, but the song I knew best is their cover of Alice Cooper’s “School’s Out”. While I don’t think anyone could ever top the original song, I think Eve to Adam’s cover of it is pretty decent. It rounded out a pretty good set for them at Rock on the Range.
Eve to Adam have released the song as their new single. The track was recorded during a two day break, while on tour with Creed, at Vudu studios in Long Island. The new single has been climbing the charts since hitting radio last week and was played by Alice himself on his syndicated radio show Nights with Alice Cooper. “School’s Out” is available on iTunes. You can check out the song, and our Eve to Adam photo gallery from Rock on the Range below!

HART premiers debut music video “Untamed Heart of Rock N’ Roll”
– September 4th album release – NEON
Norwegian heavy metal band HART, vocalist Rock Hart together with lead guitarist Julian Angel, released their first single and music video entitled “Untamed Heart of Rock N’ Roll.” The song is the first single from HART’s upcoming debut album entitled “Neon.” Rock describes the video as “totally 80s. Think Billy Idol mixed with Power Station.”
HART is a heavy metal band from Oslo, Norway led by ex-SEKS frontman Rock Hart. Originally having worked together with SEKS, Rock teamed up with lead guitarist Julian Angel of Beautiful Beast in February 2012 to start work on “Neon.” Musically, the band draws from iconic 80s heavyweights such as Motley Crue, Twisted Sister, and Judas Priest, with a style that more than gives a nod to Billy Idol and Alice Cooper.
“Neon” will be available September 4th through CD Baby, iTunes, Spotify, Zune, and all major online retailers.
EAGLE ROCK ENTERTAINMENT TO RELEASE FIRST-EVER STONE TEMPLE PILOTS CONCERT DVD & BLU-RAY
ALIVE IN THE WINDY CITY LANDS JUNE 26
Eagle Rock Entertainment is proud to announce the June 26 release of Alive In The Windy City, the first-ever Stone Temple Pilots concert to be authorized by the band for commercial video release. [MSRP $14.98 for DVD, $19.98 for Blu-ray]
Filmed in state-of-the-art high-definition, recorded in DTS-HD Master Audio and LPCM Stereo, Stone Temple Pilots performed a high-octane show at the sold-out Riviera Theatre in Chicago, IL. This March 2010 concert blended new songs from their self-titled sixth album with classic hits from the inception of their career. Vocalist Scott Weiland, bassist Robert DeLeo, guitarist Dean DeLeo and drummer Eric Kretz erupted with a stop-on-a-dime tight, blistering set that included “Interstate Love Song” “Plush” “Vasoline” “Creep” “Sex Type Thing” and “Big Empty.” The 18-song show is complemented with bonus exclusive band member interviews — Total running time is 92 minutes.
Stone Temple Pilots were conceived in 1992 San Diego, successfully melding alternative rock, hard rock, melodic pop, and garage rock into a swirl of post-punk attitude with a hint of glam. Their first two albums—Core and Purple—immediately established them as one of the more adventurous of the American guitar bands. The raw, sonic energy of their songs and live shows propelled two decades worth of success. Amidst numerous break-ups and the four musicians coming and going in different bands, STP has never had a personnel change. Alive In The Windy City documents the strength and live prowess of this 20-year heavy-hitting rock collective.

New York rockers Grimm Jack sent me the link to their new video “Damned”, and I was immediately hooked. This song is on the band’s new EP of the same name, and is available for sale at CD Baby and iTunes. I was dumbfounded to find that this band started out in the 80’s. I don’t know why it took so long to hear Grimm Jack’s music. It just goes to show you how unkind the music industry is. Judging from “Damned” and the other songs I have listened to, Grimm Jack is going to be a band to keep an eye on.
For more information on Grimm Jack, please visit the band’s website. Check out the band’s clips “Damned” and “Can’t Stand Another Day” .
German rockers, Kissin’ Dynamite released their third CD, Money, Sex and Power in 2012. Their previous effort Addicted to Metal was my number one album of 2010, needless to say, I have been looking forward to this CD for months.
Money, Sex & Power picks up where Addicted to Metalleft off with more 80’s influenced retro rock. Jim Müller and Andre Braun dish out more killer guitar riffs, and Hannes Braun offers up another tremendous vocal performance. He is quickly becoming one of my favorite German hard rock singers.
I love the fact that Kissin’ Dynamite is keeping the rock music I enjoy alive, and they deliver with another batch of cool tunes on Money, Sex and Power. The CD isn’t without some pure cheese, (i.e. “Dinosaurs Are Still Alive”) but while some songs fail, others are too good to miss. “Sex Is War”, “She’s A Killer” and “I Will Be King” are amongst Kissin’ Dynamite’s best songs ever.
“Six Feet Under” is also a very cool tune, that could easily be released as a single on U.S. rock radio.
I don’t think Money, Sex & Power is better than Addicted to Metal, but it is still pretty good, and is a step above many of the hard rock releases of 2012.
If you enjoy 80’s style hard rock & hair metal, you need to check out Kissin’ Dynamite. They have delivered another fun CD, and I think you will enjoy it as much as I have.
You can grab a copy of Money, Sex and Power from Amazon.com at this link. Check it out!

Unlike what the 1990’s music trends and industry dictatorship tried to establish, Rock n Roll doesn’t have to be self-pitiful, innocent and pale.
After years of stage and studio hard work building a proudly ruined reputation – gathered on renowned acts within the Portuguese scene like Dawnrider, Divine Lust or Attick Demons – J.P. “WildHearted” Costanza, Rick Rivotti and Tony “Rattlesnake” Misfortune eventually clashed with each others and decided to team-up. Under AFFÄIRE moniker they’re fulfilling an urge remaining since teenage days, coming up with the band that Portugal owes to the world since the 80’s.
By late 2011, the debut single “Born Too Late” was released in 7” vinyl format, limited to 300 handnumbered copies. Short after that, Filipe “Rooster” Cascata is announced as AFFÄIRE singer.
Four restless characters driven from 70’s Punk Rock street decadence, fuelled by NWOBHM rush, finally crashing on the Sunset Strip glamour & sleaziness.
AFFÄIRE was born too late and proudly raises their middle-fingers to the music trends and to whatever the next-big-thing is. No ‘nu’! No ‘alternative’! No shame!

Sebastian Bach has released a third video in support of his latest CD, Kicking & Screaming. Check out the brand new clip “I’m Alive” and “Tunnelvision” below!
On April 18th, Europe released their 9th CD, Bag of Bones. If your only knowledge of Europe is the band’s mega pop metal “The Final Countdown”, you may find yourself disappointed with the band’s latest opus. This is not a pop metal CD. This is a real rock record! For you classic rock fans, Europe has offered up a tasty block of well executed rock that will sound amazing on your turntables, or “gasp” mp3 players.
Europe’s latest long player has a classic, more bluesy feel to the music. There are moments when I hear little bits of Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin influence in the music, and I think that is really cool. I love the classic approach that the band took for this album. John Norum dishes out some excellent riffs, but also offers up a variety of styles which shows just how versatile of guitarist he is. Joey Tempest’s voice is as strong as ever, but I think he smartly refrains from going after those super high notes. That makes no difference on the songs on Bag of Bones, as Tempest often proves he has plenty of gas in the tank. He delivers another great vocal performance.
Bag of Bones is more of a guitar oriented album, but the music also has some excellent keyboards in it too. Mic Michaeli’s playing reminds me a lot of Jon Lord on this album. His keys and bluesy approach really enhance the songs on Bag of Bones.
There are plenty of rockin’ cuts on this disc including “Riches to Rags”, “Not Supposed To Sing the Blues”, “Firebox” and my personal favorite “Doghouse”. There really isn’t a bad song in the bunch. This is the type of album that you can listen to beginning to end, and will want to hit repeat afterwards. Bag of Bones may be a bit of a grower for some, but if you give this one a fair chance, I think you will enjoy it quite a bit.
While Bag of Bones has not had an official release in United States, you can still purchase it at a reasonable price from Amazon.com at this link.

I have just learned that Rock City Angels front man, Bobby Durango has passed away. Rock City Angels posted the following message on their Facebook page:
The Rock City Angels are no stranger to rumors. There is no shortage of outlandish tales attributed to the band that, while entertaining and bizarre, are just patently untrue. We wish we could tell you all that the most recent story circling around was just another fabrication … another rock n’ roll tall tale. We can’t. Yesterday we received the shocking news that our founder, singer and beloved brother Bobby Durango passed away.
Whether you knew Bobby in the flesh, only knew him online or just listened to his music, all of our lives are emptier today without him. And as for those rumors we talked about earlier, even we don’t know all of the details yet, so out of respect for his family it would be greatly appreciated if we could all refrain from posting any personal theories about the circumstances and instead celebrate the man’s life. He certainly left us an amazing soundtrack.
The Rock City Angels
(all members, past and present)
Rock City Angels is a great band that never really got their due. Bobby Durango will be greatly missed by all! Another rocker has left us way too soon! Our condolences go out to Bobby’s family and friends. Rest in peace Bobby!

GYPSYHAWK unveils ‘Revelry & Resilience’ art, track listing, and new single ‘Hedgeking’ and behind the scenes studio video available for streaming!
Pasadena, CA’s GYPSYHAWK have finally released the details for their forthcoming sophomore album, and Metal Blade Records debut, Revelry & Resilience. The band’s distinct personality is splashed all over Revelry & Resilience. Whether it’s the edgy and upbeat barroom swagger of The Fields, the balls out stomp wielded by the serpentine grooves and blistering leads of Hedgeking (inspired by George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Fire and Ice series”), the head-bobbing bounce and triumphant air of Frostwyrm or their crunchy yet soulful take on Johnny Winter’s Rock And Roll, Hoochie Koo the record crackles with energy while being wholly devoid of pretension, and on every level it is leagues ahead of its predecessor.
GYPSYHAWK describes themselves as “four metal dudes playing rock and roll and bringing the party every time they get on stage”. If one thing is for sure it’s that the four guys in GYPSYHAWK are not looking for overnight stardom and want to put the work into building something that lasts, and deservedly so. “I really want to take this band as big as it can possibly go but because it’s good music that people want to hear, and I want the chance to try different things on the records we make in the future, to really see what we’re capable of,” says Packer. “We’re just going to write the best music that we can and we’re gonna write the truest music that we can,” Harris adds. “We want to play this music everywhere that will have us, but we’re pretty realistic about everything, and we’re just having a good fucking time while we can.”
The cover art was done by acclaimed artist Arik Roper (http://arikroper.com) and is available now on metalblade.com/gypsyhawk, along with the first single, Hedgeking, and a behind the scenes studio video.
Revelry & Resilience will be released August, 24th/27th by Metal Blade Records in Europe!
GYPSYHAWK was showcased as one of Alternative Press Magazine’s “100 bands you need to know” for 2012. The annual special—which is now in its twelfth year—highlights up-and-coming acts from the worlds of rock, punk, pop, indie, hardcore, metal, electronica and screamo; the expectation with inclusion is that these bands are poised to have a breakout year in 2012.
GYPSYHAWK will also be appearing on the Mayhem Festival Cruise this December with Lamb of God, Machine Head, Anthrax, Hatebreed, and more! For more information, and to reserve a room, head to: http://www.mayhemcruise.com
Fronted in true Phil Lynott style by singer/bassist Eric Harris (former bassist of Ohio blackened thrashers Skeletonwitch), GYPSYHAWK’s foursome is rounded out with guitarists Andrew Packer and Erik Kluiber, and drummer Ian Brown.

“equal parts bold classic-rock boogie and hazy space rock” Alternative Press Magazine
“Brought down from the Iron Throne, banished to the great wall, stride along the king’s road of rock and roll laid barren by the Gypsyhawk…Don’t attempt to call Gypsyhawk anything but rock and roll, they take what we all know and make it new again.” Chuck Loesch, KROX 101X
Don’t believe the hype that rock n’ roll is dead… The World’s Loudest Month has officially come to a conclusion for 2012 having hosted over 100 artists and played for more than 200,000 rock music fans across the country on five consecutive weekends. Created in partnership by AEG Live and Right Arm Entertainment, the World’s Loudest Month featured the biggest names in rock music performing throughout five distinct concert atmospheres in what can only be described as the official confirmation the often-maligned genre is thriving.
“The World’s Loudest Month is a testament not only to the artists that are grouped into this format but to the fans that have always shown their loyalty by spending their hard-earned money to come out and support what we do,” said Joe Litvag, co-executive producer of four of the five WLM festivals. “Every time I hear someone say that rock is going away or read articles that talk about the demise of rock, I smile. Rock music is alive and well and growing, and the success of the World’s Loudest Month proves just that.”
Kicking the month off was the return of Welcome to Rockville in Jacksonville , FL on Sunday, April 29. Taking place at Metropolitan Park, this one-day concert drew a sell-out crowd and saw performances from 24 local and national rock artists including: Shinedown, Korn, Evanescence, Five Finger Death Punch & many more.
Just up the road in Rockingham, NC, the 2nd Annual Carolina Rebellion got started with a campground party on Friday, May 4, and on Saturday, May 5 over 30,000 fans converged on Rockingham Speedway and were treated to performances by Five Finger Death Punch, Staind, P.O.D., Evanescence as well as an epic moment during Korn’s set with former guitarist Head joining the band on-stage for the first time in seven years.
The third weekend in the World’s Loudest Month delivered the biggest one-day rock music festival in the United States with RockFest in Kansas City on May 12. Celebrating its 20th year and cementing itself in concert history, the legendary event sold-out for the 8th consecutive year with 55,000 in attendance. Fifteen bands rocked for over 12 hours, including Adelitas Way, Theory of a Deadman, Slash, Volbeat, Cavo & more. As an added bonus, headliners Shinedown filmed the live performance video for their upcoming single “Unity” in front of the massive ‘sea of people’ that only RockFest can bring.
May 18-20 featured the nation’s most-acclaimed active rock festival, Rock on the Range in Columbus, OH at Crew Stadium. Kicking off ROTR’s 6th year, the party started on Friday night with the “Friday Night 4Play” featuring Foxy Shazam and Black Tide. Saturday saw sets by Incubus, Shinedown, Chevelle, P.O.D., Five Finger Death Punch and Cypress Hill. Sunday’s highlights included sets by acts like The Darkness, Volbeat, Anthrax, Megadeth, and for the first time ever, Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson on the same stage. Once again the fans and bands showed that Rock on the Range truly is “Where Rock Lives.”
The World’s Loudest Month concluded in Pryor, OK on Memorial Day Weekend with Rocklahoma, a three-day camping festival unlike any other. Over 30,000 fans celebrated the Holiday by enjoying bands on four different stages, and memorable performances included sets by Creed, Rob Zombie, Chickenfoot, Megadeth, Jackyl, Theory of a Deadman, Cavo, Slash, Volbeat, Puddle of Mudd and Hellyeah. And, for the first time ever, over 30 million fans throughout the United States could check out eight full hours of live concert coverage from Rocklahoma on Mark Cuban’s ‘HDNet’ helping to spread the word of Rocklahoma: “Life, Liberty & the Pursuit of Rock.”
Gary Spivack of Right Arm Entertainment adds, “We’re finally able to come up for air after an amazing month. The World’s Loudest Month proves to the planet that rock n’ roll is alive and kicking doors down. Right Arm is already looking forward to making WLM in 2013 even bigger and better. To echo what our partner Joe Litvag said—any demise of rock music by critics and naysayers has been greatly misguided.”

Bang Tango’s set at M3 was a short one. They only played six songs, but for having an early time slot, I thought the band did a pretty good job. I thought Bang Tango would play more of their classic material, but they actually played two new songs off of their latest CD, Pistol Whipped In the Bible Belt, “Suck It Up, and “Bring On the World”. Their new album is much better than expected, and definitely worth checking out. (You can read the Hard Rock Hideout Review here!) I am sure that Bang Tango’s set was shortened due to the late start time of the bands on Saturday, but they made the best of it. I enjoyed their set, I just wish it was longer.
Bang Tango’s set list was “Suck It Up”, “Ready To Go”, “Attack of Life”, “Bring On the World”, “Soul to Soul”, and my favorite “Someone Like You”.

BAND FEATURES MEMBERS OF FUEL AND SMILE EMPTY SOUL
New hard rock supergroup World Fire Brigade have signed to FrostByte Media to release their debut album, SPREADING MY WINGS, worldwide on August 28th. World Fire Brigade at its core is veteran songwriting trio Brett Scallions (frontman of Fuel, as well as lead vocalist with Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger of The Doors), Sean Danielsen (lead singer/guitarist of Smile Empty Soul) and Eddie Wohl (producer/mixer for Anthax, Ill Nino, Smile Empty Soul, Jesse Malin, 36 Crazyfists and more). Of SPREADING MY WINGS, Scallions commented, “This is a record filled with all emotions, songs that fall back and forth from major to minor. I love that it’s a heavy record with sing-a-long melodies. You don’t hear that too much in this style of music.” Please see below for the album’s track listing.
The members of World Fire Brigade have sold upwards of 10 million albums worldwide between Fuel, Smile Empty Soul and the production work of Eddie Wohl. Originally conceived as a songwriting vehicle for delivering world-class hard rock songs to other artists, World Fire Brigade evolved into its own group when it became clear that their powerful material was meant to be performed by Scallions, Danielsen and Wohl themselves. Ken Schalk (Fuel, Candiria) provides all the drums on SPREADING MY WINGS and the album also features guest appearances by Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready, Anthrax’s Rob Caggiano, and Andy Andersson (Fuel, Black Robot). World Fire Brigade is: Brett Scallions (vocals), Sean Danielsen (vocals/lead guitar) and Eddie Wohl (keyboards).
