Frontiers Records is excited to announce the return of PRIDE OF LIONS with the release of their anticipated fourth studio album entitled “Immortal” on September 21st in Europe and September 24th in North America.
The 11 tracks new album is everything Melodic Rock fans expect from these guys: powerful vocals from Toby Hitchcock and Jim Peterik, amazing music from the Pride Of Lions band and guest musicians, and of course epic songs from the pen of Grammy-winning songwriter and founding member of Survivor, Jim Peterik.
“After producing and writing the songs for Jimi Jamison’s wonderful 2009 release, “Crossroads Moment”, I needed a minute or two to get my juices back flowing in the direction of writing a great new Pride Of Lions record. When Toby decided to do his solo album, this was the perfect time for reflection. Once I started writing, the flood gates just opened up. I feel this is the cd to put POL on the map once and for all” says Peterik.
Indeed all the pieces are there that made Pride Of Lions the group to watch back in 2003 with their self-titled debut record on Frontiers. Timeless songs such as “It’s Criminal”, “Sound Of Home” and “Gone” are still on the i-pods and cd players of thousands of rock fans worldwide, but Toby Hitchcock’s voice this time has gained a new maturity and depth while sacrificing none of his incredible 4 octave range.
“When I was approached by Serafino Perugino (Frontiers Records President and guiding light) to do the next POL record I knew he wouldn’t settle for less than my very best as a songwriter and producer. I couldn’t let him or the fans down – so I really got down to business,” continues Jim.
The results speak for themselves. Joined again by Jim’s long time musical partner Larry Millas the album is a sonic powerhouse. Back up vocals are supplied by Thom Griffin ex of Trillion and a new rock tenor on the scene Marc Scherer. The title track is sheer POL magic “Immortal” with its key line: “For the thousand times we fail, it’s the one thing we did right, that leaves a mark forever on this world- and makes us Immortal.”
“Delusional”, another key cut (chosen to become the first single and music video) tackles the subject of the way we as a people overprescribe medication to young people that may be a bit different from the norm, to make them conform with the status quo- thus choking off their brilliant uniqueness.
Of course the power ballads are there as always: “Everything Money Can’t Buy”, the melancholy gem, “Are You The Same Girl” and “Sending My Love”.
“For me,” states Toby Hitchcock, the pivotal song on this cd is “Sending My Love”. I’m a sucker for a great ballad and this one spoke to my soul. Being a new father, it gets more and more heartbreaking to be away from my loved ones on the road. I love the road, don’t get me wrong, but its tough being separated from them as well.”
The rockers, of course, rock as hard as ever. The album’s closer, “Ask Me Yesterday” explores the natural wisdom we seem to lose over time. “If It Doesn’t Kill me” explores the Nietzschian quote: “What doesn’t kill me- makes me stronger!”
“Another strong rocker, in my opinion, is “Vital Signs,” says Peterik. “It’s a song I started back in 1984 while making Vital Signs with Survivor. I often like to have a song be the title cut- ie When Seconds Count, Eye Of The Tiger, Too Hot To Sleep, Caught In The Game etc. But this time I couldn’t quite finish this tune- until finally this year.”
“Immortal” is a vital album (pun intended) for POL. “We hope to finally break big in our own country- the USA. It’s great having the world wide profile that we do – when Toby and I walk the streets of Barcelona the people point and shout- Pride Of Lions! I’d like that to happen in Cincinnati!” concludes Jim Peterik.
Some big shows are currently being set up for Pride Of Lions including a show with Styx in the Chicago area around the time of this release.
So enjoy another epic album from a band that is more than a flash in the pan project. Pride of Lions is the real thing – and they are here to stay!
“Immortal” tracklisting includes:
Immortal; Delusional; Tie Down The Wind; Shine On; Everything That Money Can’t Buy; Coin Of The Realm; Sending My Love; Vital Signs; If It Doesn’t Kill Me; Are You The Same Girl; Ask Me Yesterday. The first single “Delusional” will be available for digital purchase only on September 5th. A videoclip will be made available soon – an album trailer is available now :

The Midwest’s fastest growing hard rock act, 3 Pill Morning, has cracked Billboard’s “Next Big Sound” chart for July, entering at #15 on their list of ‘the 15 fastest accelerating artists across the Internet most likely to become the next big sound.’ This comes as little surprise to a band who released its record label debut, Black Tie Love Affair, earlier this month via A2Z/Page 2 Music/eOne, wrapped up a summer tour with heavyweight act, Sevendust, released a music video for the infectious single, “Skin”: http://youtu.be/r-aZIaF6m_8, and has another hit, “Rain,” pumping on active rock stations around the country.
“From our perspective, Black Tie Love Affair is the album that will put 3 Pill Morning on the map to stay,” said vocalist, Jeff Stebbins. “We’ve been a band for a long time and our expectations for this release are light years beyond what we’ve pushed for before. Our plans are simple, tour, tour, tour, and always be writing and pushing to beat anything we’ve done before.”
Black Tie Love Affair can be ordered now, including CD, vinyl and CD/vinyl bundle packs, through the official 3 Pill Morning website: http://3pillmorning.com/, and digitally via iTunes: http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/black-tie-love-affair/id543651144.
The Black Tie Love Affair track list is…
3. Nothing’s Real
5. I Want That For You
6. So Good To Leave
7. Take Control
8. Daddy’s Little Girl
10. Drive By Lies
Black Tie Love Affair was recorded in winter 2012 with producer/engineer, Jon King (Augustana, Future Leaders of The World, Throwing Gravity, Darling Parade), at his Page 2 Studios in Nashville, Tenn.
Darcy Fray at I Am Thinker supplied cover artwork for the release.
The band’s label debut will look to build on the success of 2011’s independently released, Take Control, which broke into the national spotlight behind the hit single, “Loser,” a mainstay on the Active Rock Top 100 chart for over five months.

Andrew W.K. has unveiled the first look of his upcoming “I Get Wet” special 10th anniversary deluxe edition. Shown above, this exclusive re-issue will be available as double gatefold LP edition and as a 2-CD edition, both available through Century Media on August 28th, 2012. At first, the front cover of the anniversary edition appears to be the same “bloody nose” photograph from the original release. However, upon closer examination, fans will notice the cover is actually a photo-realistic oil painting by artist, Gonzalo Garcia. The packaging includes many more tricks and treats, including extensive liner notes and dozens of never before seen photos from throughout W.K.’s career, including rare shots from the recording of the “I Get Wet” album.
Originally released in 2002 by Island/Def Jam and Universal, the “I Get Wet” album was W.K.’s full-length debut and urgent rally-cry to the world. It unleashed anthems like, “Party Hard”, “She Is Beautiful”, and “I Love NYC” to an enthralled and sometimes enraged audience, helping secure the #1 spot on the Billboard “Heat Seekers” chart. W.K.’s sound as, Alternative Press proclaimed, “smashes up pop melodies, metal riffs and industrial beats with a hammer…”
Also to be included in the deluxe anniversary edition is a second disc/LP featuring a generous helping of never-before-heard live recordings, alternate mixes, early versions of the album’s songs, and other previously unreleased material. For the first time ever, Andrew and his team recorded their live concerts using a special custom-designed technology with the aim of recreating the sound inside Andrew’s own ear-canals while he performs on stage. They constructed a unique microphone enclosure disguised to look like a piece of monitor equipment which contained a specially manufactured audio system, designed to replicate Andrew’s skull. The resulting audio is raw, chaotic, and full of live energy. There will also be a limited number of autographed deluxe editions of the album, each containing a very special “SOMETHING” directly from Andrew’s private collection – everything from a lock of his hair to a world tour airplane ticket stub. The full track-listing appears below.
Earlier this year Andrew W.K. celebrated with the “I Get Wet – Ten Year Anniversary Tour” playing the entire album front to back with his full band. The tour hit the United States, Canada, Europe, Japan, and Australia, as sold-out audiences partied with Andrew harder than ever before. On the tour, fans were treated to W.K. shredding on his own custom-made Pizza Guitar by the ESP Guitar company! Pitchfork TV recently featured the guitar and W.K. playing it through a double-stack of amplifiers at a Ray’s Pizza parlor in Times Square (viewable here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvuQTo3jbcA&feature=player_embedded)
Also on the horizon is W.K.’s speaking panel titled, “What Would Pinkie Pie Do?” taking place at Canterlot Gardens in Ohio. Canterlot Gardens is the premiere My Little Pony fan convention scheduled for this September.

DANKO JONES is extremely excited to announce that they will be releasing their new album Rock And Roll is Black and Blue on October 9, 2012.
Over the course of six full-length albums, DANKO JONES has forged a singular sound that draws equally from the blues, ‘60s garage, ‘70s hard rock, ‘80s hardcore, punky power-pop, Scandinavian metal, and classic stand-up comedy records without ever being fully defined by any of those sources. But while built from the same rudiments, each DANKO JONES record possesses a distinct sonic identity. Born A Lion (2002) brought the boogie and sledgehammer soul; We Sweat Blood (2003) was, by contrast, more anxious and aggro. Sleep Is the Enemy (2006) wielded the sharpest hooks. Never Too Loud (2008) was as slick as Below the Belt (2010) was stripped-down. But, compared to all that’s come before, Rock And Roll Is Black And Blue is, hands down, the most emotional and, as a result, the most epic DANKO JONES album to date.
Now, don’t be scared off by those E-words – there’s not a children’s choir, orchestra or piano ballad to be found within a 500-mile radius of this album. But what you hear on Rock and Roll is Black and Blue is the DANKO JONES ideal blown up to skyscraping proportions, resulting in 13 tracks that are bolder, brasher, and brawnier than anything they’ve attempted before.
The album is produced in full by their longtime partner in crime Matt DeMatteo and was mixed by Mike Fraser, known for his work with AC/DC, Aerosmith, Franz Ferdinand and Elvis Costello to name a few. It is also the first album recorded with “new” drummer Atom Willard – the sixth person in DANKO JONES history to hold the “drummer” title, but the first to stand on equal creative footing with Danko and his longtime foil, bassist John “JC” Calabrese. The man’s résumé speaks for itself: Not only was Willard the driving percussive force behind Danko’s all-time favorite San Diegan garage-punk armada Rocket From the Crypt, he’s also been keeping time for the multi-platinum likes of the Offspring, Social Distortion and Angels & Airwaves, so he knows how to drum his way around a massive tune.
The first single – “Just A Beautiful Day” – will be serviced to radio all over the world shortly.
The new album follows the June release of Bring On The Mountain – a two disc DVD featuring a 90 minute documentary, a short film, exclusive live clips from around the world and all the music videos they have ever done.
A lengthy European tour scheduled for October / November was announced during spring and with ticket sales already looking great we expect most shows to be sold out well before the doors open. Tour dates in Canada, US and Australia will be announced soon with more European touring and a busy festival summer in 2013 also on the horizon. European tour dates can be found here:

Eclipse has released a video for the title track of their up and coming album, Bleed and Scream. Bleed and Scream will be released August 24th in Europe and August 28th in the United States. Check out the clip below!
I was at a summer barbecue this past weekend, listening to good music and enjoying cold beer. Like most conversations that happen around me, the talk turned to music. A group of us started discussing concerts that we’ve been to, or plan to attend this summer. One of the guys mentioned that he just saw Def Leppard with Lita Ford and Poison. He told me what a great time he had and how he was surprised that Poison was still around. That got me to thinking. When did Poison get stuck as an opening act?
In the early 00s, Poison was headlining a glam festival every year. They would hit the road with Warrant, Cinderella, Sebastian Bach…the list was endless. They even put out an album of brand new material in 2002, Hollyweird. And while it wasn’t their best record, it was cool that Poison was recording new music for the fans that wanted it. Then, something strange happened. In 2004, Poison (apparently) couldn’t afford to go out on a headline tour, so they decided to open for Kiss. And while that was a cool concept for one tour, it never should have become the status quo.
In 2006 Poison went on a co-headlining tour with Cinderella. In 2007, they hit the road with Ratt in support of their terrible covers album, Poison’D. After a 2008 headlining tour with Dokken and Sebastian Bach, the band spent 2009 opening for Def Leppard. In 2010, Poison did not tour at all. The next year they opened for Motley Crue, and this year, they are out opening for Def Leppard once again. This is a band that ten years ago was headlining sold out concerts. Sure, they were in sheds across America, but they were still headlining to 12,000 people. That’s quite a feat! And now, they have been pushed to an opening act, exactly what they were at the start of their career. How can the band be all right with this?
I am sure that the money they earn makes it easier to swallow their pride and open, but what the band should be doing is working on new material and preparing themselves to be headliners once again. Even without new music, if Poison would decide to perform some different songs live, they could be headliners once again. The biggest issue that I have with Poison is that they play the same set list year after year after year. Why not try and mix it up by performing a few tracks from Crack A Smile, or HollyWeird. Why not play something from Native Tongue other than “Stand?” Why not perform a few of the studio tracks from the live albums? Of course Poison is always going to play “Every Rose Has Its Thorn,” “Talk Dirty To Me,” and “Nothing But A Good Time.” I understand that. But why not shake it up with “Cover Of A Rolling Stone” instead of “We’re An American Band?” Pull out “No Ring No Gets” and lose “Ride The Wind.” Yes, I love “Ride The Wind” too, but I’d much rather hear a song that I’ve never heard the band perform live.
And if Poison is worried about not being able to carry the load themselves, then gather up another band or two and have them come out with you for support. Warrant (with Robert Mason) would be a great choice. Night Ranger has been incredible on the road, and they would make a great pairing with Poison. If Kix could be talked into doing a summer tour, a Kix/Poison concert would sell like hotcakes. And there is always Cinderella, a very popular draw.
As for opening acts, there are a ton of classic bands out there that would fit this bill. Great White, Lynch Mob, Mike Tramp, Enuff Z’Nuff, and Bang Tango are all available. They would all be a great addition to the tour. It could even be one of the best tours of the summer if done correctly. It’s just a shame to see the once mighty Poison, one of the best live acts of the 80s circuit, to be used as an opening band, when they could clearly be out on their own. I can only hope that the band will hear my plea. Also, a new album of original material would be nice. Please don’t leave us with Poison’D as your final studio album. That would be a disgrace.

TACHYON–the latest app by Wizdom Music’s Jordan Rudess, the keyboardist/Continuum-player/multi-instrumentalist for Grammy-nominated prog rock/metal icons Dream Theater, and chief programmer Kevin Chartier–was released for iOS devicestoday (July 25) via iTunes.
Tachyon allows images and sound to become one as they magically blend under the user’s fingertips. Each note played is an individual expression, allowing independent control of pitch and tone far beyond that of traditional instruments. Most instruments only allow the user to play one sound at a time, but with Tachyon they can seamlessly blend between any two sounds as they slide their fingers up and down the screen. The visual experience of Tachyon is just as mesmerizing; fields of twinkling stars morph into the shape of the selected instrument, allowing a direct correlation between sight and sound.
As described by Jordan Rudess, “Tachyon is simple to use and at the same time it offers a unique musical expressive power. The sonic core of the app is a custom-crafted sound set from my personal library, encompassing sounds as familiar as those you would find in your home toolbox, and as exclusive as the ones I use on tour with Dream Theater.”
Jordan and Kevin are also the creators of the top-selling synth-app MorphWiz which won first place in the category of “Best Music Creation App” in the 2010 Billboard Music App Awards, “Best Musical App” in the Best App Ever Awards and best “IPhone/Ipad/Itouch” app in the Electronic Musician’s 2011 Editor’s Ch

The band has released a video for the single “Strange”. Check it out on the SPV YouTube Channel HERE.
It’s not easy to say what catches the listener’s attention first on Kill Devil Hill, the debut album by the newly formed band of the same name: the strong guitar hooks, the killer grooves, the dynamic production or the potent vocal melodies. Rex Brown, bassist of this super group and erstwhile member of Pantera and Down sees KILL DEVIL HILL in its entirety as an extremely exciting new band “To me, this band is a musical adventure trip,” he reckons. Brown knows what he’s talking about, after all he was involved in some of the most important rock and metal recordings of the past 30 years. So if Brown can hardly contain his enthusiasm, there must be something special to the KILL DEVIL HILL phenomenon.

REDEFINING THE WAY FANS EXPERIENCE MUSIC AND ALBUMS
WITH MUSIC TECH APPS
“SLASH360” AND “AmpliTube”
“In this day and age, if you can take music in a different direction, and show people all the different facets of how music is created and performed it makes the whole picture more interesting. That is our goal.” –SLASH
We’ve moved into the digital music era, but multimedia albums have neglected to make the transition into this new era as easily as singles. Technology has evolved to create opportunities never before possible, such as interacting with artists in a live setting. Ideas move fast, and it makes sense an artist would be at the heart of new, innovative and forward-thinking ideas that resonate. Grammy-winning, iconic guitarist andRock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee SLASH has introduced two new music apps which celebrate a return to the full-length album, allowing fans to access his signature sound and push the boundaries of how music is released.
SLASH’s new album APOCALYPTIC LOVEmoves into the interactive age and is now available as a multimedia app for users of Apple’s iPhone, iPad and iPod devices. SLASH has partnered with MATIvision to bring fans the SLASH360 app. The SLASH360 brings you into the studio with SLASH and his bandmates Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators Brent Fitz (drums) and Todd Kerns (bass). “We recorded this album live, as we played it,” explains SLASH. “The app captures the energy of the band in the best way and MATIvision allows fans to experience the album just as if they were in the room with us.” MATIvision is the world’s first multi-camera 360-degree interactive music application. The SLASH360 app allows fans to follow every moment of the band performing APOCALYPTIC LOVE in its entirety through the eyes of six 360-degree spherical, panoramic cameras. SLASH360 is a music first. Never before have fans been able to control their experience while listening to the album at the same time. SLASH and MATIvision have taken the information that used to be limited to a CD booklet and turned it into a unique fan experience.
There are two versions of the SLASH360 app. The introductory version includes the #1 Active Rock hit “You’re A Lie” with lyrics and extras ($.99). Click here to experience: http://itunes.apple.com/app/slash-360-lt-apocalyptic-love/id524517739?mt=8A second, full version includes the entire album performance of APOCALYPTIC LOVE, photos, lyrics and other extras ($4.99).Experience the full version here: http://itunes.apple.com/app/slash-360-apocalyptic-love/id524544296?mt=8.
For the more musically inclined fan, SLASH partnered with IK Multimedia to develop AmpliTube Slash edition which allows fans to play, practice and record with SLASH’s signature pedals and amplifiers on the iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and Mac/PC. Users can rock in a fully integrated multi-track recording studio with SLASH’s legendary Marshall amplifiers andhis signature guitar pedals as well asa comprehensive collection of SLASH’s guitar tone settings. “Myles and I wrote APOCALYPTIC LOVE entirely on tour,” explains SLASH. “When we weren’t performing we were traveling so by using my iPhone with AmpliTube and iRig I was able to capture the ideas swimming in my head at 4AM.” “I’ll do some tweaks on the Marshall’s, but there are different effects available including distortion, chorus, auto wah and more.” SLASH worked closely with IK Multimedia to make sure AmpliTube Slash faithfully reproduced his unmistakable sounds and tones. The apps are now available for iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad ($9.99) and inside the new AmpliTube 2.5 for iOS with the inclusion of SLASH’s full deck of signature gear in the cutting edge AmpliTube Custom Shop desktop/laptop app and plug-in for Mac/PC ($79.99). 2012 has been a big year so far for SLASH. On July 10th,he was honored with his own Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, located directly in front of the Hard Rock Café on Hollywood Blvd (6801 Hollywood Blvd). As a musician, artist, philanthropist, and iconic rock figure, SLASH has amassed album sales nearing an astounding 100 million copies along with a Grammy Award and seven Grammy nominations, plus countless other accolades, and acknowledgements, Time magazine named SLASH #2, behind Jimi Hendrix, on its “The Ten Best Electric Guitar Players of All-Time.” SLASH’s self-titled biography critically well-received, climbed the bestseller list in both the U.S. and U.K. hitting #8 on the NY Times Bestsellers list.
SLASH Featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators recently released their new album APOCALYPTIC LOVE (May 22, 2012). APOCALYPTIC LOVE stormed onto the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart at #4,marking the top rock debut for that week. The disc hit #1 Independent Albums Chart and #1 Hard Music Albums Chart. “You’re A Lie” the hard-driving first single off the new album is now #1 Active Rock, marking SLASH’s first ever solo #1 hit at radio. All songs on APOCALYPTIC LOVE (released onSLASH’s own Dik Hayd International, and distributed through EMI Label Services) were written together by SLASH and Myles Kennedy as they spent the last two years on tour all over the world. SLASH and his band, including touring guitarist Frank Sidoris, launched a summer headlining tour of the U.S. and Canada on July 12 in Portland, OR. They’ll follow that up with another U.S. headlining tour starting September 4 in San Diego, CA and wrapping October 3 in Los Angeles, CA.

The Naughty Whisper new course starts on July 27 2012 with their new record release ‘Addicted To Decadence’.
During the past ten years, or as Mötley Crüe would say, ‘Decade of Decadence’, Naughty Whisper have released two albums and brought their music all around Europe, lately favoring Scandinavia. The influence of the northern land, the will to update and fellow/godfather Johnny Lee Michaels’s advice (i.e. the hystorical producer of The 69 Eyes), have layed the foundations for ‘Addicted To Decadence’.
Naughty Whisper’s latest release is a mixture of metal, gothic and rock elements, not to mention that Scandinavian air the band has been breathing for years. The album was produced in Göteborg at the Arnold Lindberg’s studio (In Flames,Hardcore Superstar, Evergrey).
And for all fans living in Germany, Switzerland or Austria Amazon.de offers a great 3-days only promotion. Starting this Friday (July 27) and for 3-days only you can get the album for just 5 Euros, simply go to the Addicted To Decadence page on Amazon.de.
U.S. Fans can buy the album as a digital download at Amazon.com.

Only The Darkness would dare to pull off that trick they do like they never stopped pulling it off all those years ago-of both undermining and reinforcing the majesty of rock.”

On Tour with GWAR, DEVILDRIVER and CANCER BATS this Fall
New Zealand heavy metal export LEGACY OF DISORDER is pleased to announce the North American release of their new album, Last Man Standing, with Black Orchard Music on September 18, 2012. The band builds on their signature sound which largely resembles the power metal that such renowned U.S. bands like Pantera perfected and popularized. As they did with their 2008 demo, the band tapped Dallas-based producer Sterling Winfield for Last Man Standing, who has worked in the past with Pantera, Damageplan, and Hellyeah.
As one would figure from the explosiveness of their recordings thus far, LEGACY OF DISORDER is one ferocious live beast when they hit the stage. In celebration of the release of their new album, the band will join GWAR, DevilDriver and Cancer Bats on tour this fall. The tour kicks off on Friday, October 12th in Philadelphia, PA and hits several major U.S. cities, coming to a close in its kick-off state on Monday, November 26th in Pittsburgh, PA.
“We can’t wait to get back on the road. This upcoming tour will be killer! It’s an honour to be back on tour with the mighty GWAR,” states guitarist Rana Freilich. “The line-up is brilliant with DevilDriver and Cancer Bats joining in on the festivities. The timing couldn’t be better with our new album Last Man Standing being released September 18th, followed up with such a badass tour. The band is pumped and can’t wait to throw down the new material on stage. There will be no holds barred.”
It is only a matter of time until LEGACY OF DISORDER takes their rightful spot alongside the top modern day metal acts. “We think our style fits in well with today’s metal scene,” explains lead singer James Robinson. “We have elements of a wide range of metal – all into one robust unit. LEGACY OF DISORDER shows in a lot of ways the evolution of this genre, but with a unique sound that no one can replicate.”
See below for all current LEGACY OF DISORDER tour dates and stay tuned for more updates coming soon.

Virtuoso guitarist and visionary composer www.Vai.com will release The Story of Light, a new solo album of original material, on August 14. The title comes out on Favored Nations Entertainment, the label Vai founded in 1999. Its sprawling and expressive 12-song set continues a conceptual and cosmic narrative arc begun on the artist’s acclaimed 2005 album Real Illusions: Reflections (also Vai’s most recent solo studio release).
Although The Story of Light is largely instrumental, the album does feature guest vocalists including singer-songwriter Aimee Mann—dueting with Vai on “No More Amsterdam,” which she also co-wrote—and Beverly McClellan, a season one finalist on The Voice. McClellan appears on “John the Revelator,” a track inspired by a vintage recording of blues singer Blind Willie Johnson, whose acid-soaked vocals are in the mix as well. Other highlights include the title track (which opens the album), “Gravity Storm,” “The Moon and I,” and “Velorum.”
Throughout, three-time GRAMMY-winner Vai’s lead guitar is as lyrically resonant as it is technically masterful, his licks and solos bending sounds and in listeners’ minds in equal measure. The Story of Light follows the journey of a man driven mad by grief, intertwining tragedy, revelation, enlightenment, and redemption.
“I’m always pursuing knowledge, I’m a seeker of spiritual equilibrium—and music is a big part of that,” says Vai. “I’ve been obsessed with these kinds of ideas for years.” Looking ahead, Vai envisions a third set of songs that will unravel the mysteries and reveal truths that swirl through both The Story of Light and Real Illusions: Reflections. The completed trilogy, intended to be cinematic—even operatic—in scope, will include lyrics and narration.
The Story of Light is available as of today for online pre-sale orders. This special pre-sale selection of bundled packages is offered exclusively through Vai’s website, www.Vai.com, where complete details on the products and ordering information are available. Each package includes an instant download of a track from the new album personally selected by Vai, “Gravity Storm.”
Following up the 2009 live album Where The Wild Things Are, The Story of Light, is Vai’s 16th solo effort. In support of its release, Vai will begin a tour of North America on August 15th in Fort Lauderdale Florida, accompanied by his band—who are also featured on the new album: Dave Weiner (guitar), Jeremy Colson (drums), Philip Bynoe (bass), and Deborah Hensen (harp, vocals, keyboards).

Adelitas Way, Papa Roach & Shinedown brought their tour to the PNC Pavillion last Tuesday night. Intergalactic Mutant Overlords GWAR, are plotting their return to the road this fall. Taking a break from working on their new album as well as an extended arctic slumber, GWAR is back with an entirely new show. Your lords and masters will be wreaking havoc across North America, with support coming from DevilDriver, Cancer Bats and Legacy of Disorder. The tour is currently scheduled to kick off October 12th in Philadelphia, PA and run through November 26th in Millvale, PA. More dates are expected to be added in the coming weeks. Tickets go on sale this Friday July 27th and Saturday July 28th.
When asked for comment on the upcoming tour, GWAR front-thing Oderus Urungus muttered something incoherent, then when prodded a bit more muttered something else incoherent. After the third attempt for comment something more intelligible came from the mouth of the warty one:
Said Lord Oderus, “Once again GWAR returns, hoof and nail, to our old stomping grounds, North America, on a tour of utter destruction, and this time nothing less than the greatest power in the universe will do as our primary victim! That’s right, this time GWAR, fresh from our battle with Death, takes on another of history’s biggest assholes…God himself! Seeing as we don’t have the new album done yet, we really had to do something spectacular…”
Oderus belched out a midget and continued. “This tour will also see the arrival of a new Scumdog brother to aid GWAR in our quest to destroy everything that sucks. That’s right, I can finally reveal certain details regarding our new album…ever since our missing band mate Flattus Maximus took his leave of Earth, members of the Maximus tribe have been showing up at our Antarctic fortress, not only to pay their respects but also eat all of our food. And also lay tracks on the new album! You see, every member of the Maximus family rips on guitar (though Flattus taught them all they know), and they were anxious to help us fill the void left by Flattus. We have been working with his brothers Pustulus, Infecticus, Bubonus and even the shunned Corpulus…and right now they are fighting it out as to which one of them will stay here with the mighty GWAR for the “FATE OR CHAOS” Tour…and beyond! Get ready world, this fall shall see the birth of a new Scumdog!”
Before GWAR takes to the road this fall, they are of course hosting the premiere event of the Summer, the 3rd Annual GWAR-B-Q. Ring Dog Rescue and Slave Pit Inc. are proud to present the 2012 GWAR-B-Q, being held Aug. 18th at Hadad’s Water Park in lovely Richmond, Va.! Tickets are available online at www.gwarbq.com or you can pick up physical tickets at Plan 9 Records in Carytown or Vinyl Conflict Records in Oregon Hill. Bands on the bill include: GWAR, The Casualties, Strike Anywhere, Valient Thor, Ghoul and a host of other killer bands. For more info, be sure to visit www.gwarbq.com.
GWAR will also be performing at this year’s RiotFest in Chicago, IL on September 15th. Around that show, GWAR will be playing three special dates with The Casualties providing support.
