One of the greatest hard rock musicians to ever grace the keyboard passed away today. Former Deep Purple keyboardist suffered a fatal pulmonary embolism today after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Jon was 71 years old.
We will never forget his awesome playing with Deep Purple and Whitesnake. Our condolences go out to Jon’s family, friends and former band mates.

Its hard to believe that its nearly been three years since BONAFIDE´s last full length offering “Something’s Dripping” was first released
Above all, BONAFIDE has been building an ever growing audience all over Europe by constant touring. 2 long European tours, covering 12 countries, headlining and as support. Add to this, the countless festival appearances and week long tours of Spain and the UK and it can be easily seen, that these boys are Rock n Roll Road Rats on the up.. Quite simply, BONAFIDE is a band that knows, that success and longevity can only be achieved by hard work, which inevitably means non stop touring and keeping it Live.
The third single from that second album was the song “Fill your head with Rock”. A single that actually became an EP of unreleased songs and videos that raced to number 1 in the Swedish Mid-price chart and gave BONAFIDE a spot among the top songs of 2011 on Classic Rock Magazine’s annual list! A successful UK tour followed, culminating in a show at Islington O2 Academy in London.
2012 marks the year of “ULTIMATE REBEL”. An album packed with loud, energetic yet melodic hard rock, firmly rooted in heavy electric blues and steaming hot old school r´n´b.
The first single “Doing the Pretty” has already been A listed and on continued heavy rotation on several European radio stations The main album release will be supported by a second single / video, which will be released prior to the album, early August 2012.
This hotly tipped monster of an album, was recorded during two hectic weeks in engineer Conny Wall´s Gig Studio’s in Stockholm in February, and was produced by band front man and main songwriter Pontus Snibb.
This Summer,.. BONAFIDE have just played to a record breaking audience of over 10K on Sweden Rock Festival’s Zeppelin stage, and will continue to play festivals and clubs, doing their outstanding live shows in both Scandinavia and the UK before heading out on yet another European tour this fall.
“ULTIMATE REBEL” is out August 15 2012. For full details go to www.offyerrocka.com

Special one-time-only surprises usually happen at the end of a long tour. The final stop in Bangor, ME last Sunday, July 8 of “The Midwest Rock ‘n Roll Express” with STYX, REO Speedwagon and Ted Nugent was no exception. During STYX’s set, lucky fans at that final stop got what they were hoping for when Ted Nugent joined the band for a special performance of the Damn Yankees classic “Coming Of Age.”
THEORY OF A DEADMAN
HAS TEAMED UP WITH HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
$5 BRACELETS WILL BE SOLD AT UPCOMING SHOWS TO BENEFIT THE CAUSE
NEW SINGLE “HEAD ABOVE WATER” LANDS AT RADIO THIS WEEK
NEW MUSIC VIDEO FOR TOP 5 RADIO HIT “HURRICANE” OUT NOW
TOUR CONTINUES IN SUPPORT OF ALBUM ‘THE TRUTH IS…’
THEORY OF A DEADMAN has teamed up with Hollywood for Habitat for Humanity in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (HFH GLA) to sell $5 bracelets at their shows to benefit the cause and contribute towards a THEORY sponsored Habitat build in the fall. With a goal of eliminating substandard housing worldwide and supporting affordable homeownership, Habitat for Humanity supports this work through donations, volunteer hours and advocacy. The Canadian rockers recently filmed a video to promote this campaign, which you can view here.
“So many people are being affected by the current state of our economy and now more than ever have the need for affordable housing,” states the band. “We thought that it was a great idea to get involved and donate our time and help make a difference by building a house later this year,” explains frontman TYLER CONNOLLY. “The band and I decided to direct our efforts toward helping a family in my Los Angeles community. We’re encouraging fans to pick up a wristband offered at our merch booth this summer. The proceeds will be donated to HFH GLA and help them with their mission of building hope, lives and communities every day.”
THEORY OF A DEADMAN is also offering a couple unique VIP experiences to benefit the charity. Fans can bid now at CharityBuzz for tickets to their 7/21 Biloxi, MS and 7/25 Philadelphia, PA shows including a chance to meet and hang with the band and take home a signed guitar. In other news, THEORY OF A DEADMAN will release their new single “Head Above Water” to radio later this week. The inspirational track is the fourth single to come from the band’s current album THE TRUTH IS… and features THEORY OF A DEADMAN’s trademark honest and relatable lyrics, hard rock power and soaring pop melody. Their last single “Hurricane” hit Top 5 at Active Rock. In his distinctive tone, frontman TYLER CONNOLLY minces no words in “Hurricane” as he compares a broken romance to a disaster. The official music video, which premiered last week on Loudwire.com, follows CONNOLLY and his girlfriend as she experiences overnight fame and fortune–including an encounter with comedian Andy Dick–and how it affects their relationship. Watch it here.
Always one to poke fun at himself, CONNOLLY recently launched a series of hilarious YouTube videos titled “You Don’t Know Me.” The three-part series which has been viewed over 85,000 times follows CONNOLLY as he asks random people in New York City if they recognize him. Check out Part 1 here, Part 2 here, Part 3 here.
THE TRUTH IS… debuted #8 on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums chart and #2 on iTunes Rock Album charts. The Howard Benson (My Chemical Romance, 3 Doors Down) produced album has sold over 220,000 copies and yielded two other widely successful singles: “Lowlife” was the #1 song at Rock radio for three consecutive weeks while “Bitch Came Back” was Top 15 at Active Rock radio. THEORY OF A DEADMAN—CONNOLLY (Lead Vocals, Lead Guitar), DAVID BRENNER (Rhythm Guitar), DEAN BACK (Bass) and JOEY DANDENEAU (Drums)–has sent 16 songs into the Top 25 on various charts, including three #1s. Their last album Scars & Souvenirs (2008) has reached Platinum status, selling over 1 million copies.

It’s July. It’s hot. The 4th of July celebration has ended and the glorious barbecue food that I ate too much of (as well as the ice cream and beer) has been consumed. July has arrived and that means this year is half over. If you are to believe the skeptics (or would they be critics?) regarding the Mayan calendar, this may be the last six months we have left on Earth. If that’s true, it would mean no “best of” list for you to enjoy in December. And since I feel obligated to share what I think are the best CDs of the year with the faithful readers of Hard Rock Hideout, then it is my moral obligation to produce a half year list (just in case we don’t make it out of 2012). So, out of my debt of gratitude to all of you regular readers, here are the top five albums of 2012. If we do survive to the end of the year, there will be a year end list. It will be fun to see if any of these albums make it to that list.
5. Shinedown – Amaryllis
Following up on the best record of their career (The Sound Of Madness); Shinedown had their work cut out for them with Amaryllis. Fortunately for the fans, the band took their work seriously. The end result was one fantastic, hard rocking record of fun. Amaryllis is a fantastic album, with hit after hit pelting the ears of the listener. Shinedown was able to overcome the high expectations that were laid on them following the success of The Sound Of Madness. They rose to the challenge and created a record that far exceeds their previous work. The only problem now is that they have set the bar even higher for the next record. Given the history of the band, I am sure they will be able to surpass that bar as well.
4. The Cult – Choice Of Weapon
The Cult just released their latest album, Choice Of Weapon. Normally, I like to wait and let a record settle over me before I even think of adding it to any “best of” list. However, Choice Of Weapon is such a fantastic CD, that there is no need to wait to proclaim it as one of the best albums of 2012. If you’ve missed The Cult, or if you are seeking a hard rock beauty to add to your stereo this summer, pick up a copy of Choice Of Weapon. You will not be disappointed. With magnificent riffs, fantastic vocals, and a whole lot of power, Choice Of Weapon satisfies as the choice of album for the summer.
3. Van Halen – A Different Kind Of Truth
I’ll be the first to admit that I expected this album to suck. After many years of not recording together, combined with all of the documented “Eddie” issues that were lingering over the band, I figured there was no way Van Halen was going to make a solid record. I have never been happier to be wrong. A Different Kind Of Truth is classic Van Halen at its finest. From the opening riff on “Tattoo,” to the closing notes on “Beats Working,” Van Halen delivered the perfect follow up to 1984. While the Dave-sung tracks on Best Of Volume One were fabulous, they were nothing compared to what the band put on A Different Kind Of Truth. It’s sad that we won’t be able to witness these songs live this summer or fall, as Van Halen has cancelled all of their gigs until further notice. However, at least we can enjoy the studio recordings.
2. Bruce Springsteen – Wrecking Ball
Yeah, yeah, I know there are some regular readers out there who think Springsteen isn’t hard rock and isn’t worthy of being mentioned on this site. Whatever. We can debate that on a future podcast that contains “Is It Hard?” (You are downloading and listening, right?) For those of us that feel The Boss is hard rock, he has produced one of the best albums of his career and Wrecking Ball is one of the best albums of 2012. Blending his 70s style blue collar rock with his more recent Irish folk flavor, and mixing in some good old fashioned classic guitar rock, Bruce Springsteen has struck gold with Wrecking Ball. There is something for everyone. From ballads to blues, from guitar solos, to foot stomping folk songs, Wrecking Ball has it all. That is what makes it such a great treasure. After 40 years, Bruce Springsteen still knows how to rock and roll and Wrecking Ball is the current proof of his lasting musical genius.
1. Dead Sara – Dead Sara
The biggest gift that I was blessed with this year has been Dead Sara. When I received their debut album for review, I really didn’t have high hopes. The band had received all sorts of high praise and I just figured that they would fail to live up to the hype. Not only did Dead Sara live up to it, they smashed it. And while there are still a lot of highly anticipated releases due out this year, I don’t think there will be any record released in 2012 that is going to top Dead Sara’s self titled debut. There is not one negative thing that can be said about Dead Sara. Not one constructive criticism can be made. Dead Sara is about as perfect as an album can be, and the fact that it is a rookie effort, only helps to confirm that Dead Sara is the real deal. If there is only one record that you purchase this year, it needs to be the self titled debut from Dead Sara. You will not hear a better album in 2012.

Following its triumphant release in Europe via Roadrunner Records, and in the Netherlands via CNR Entertainment, We Are The Others — the acclaimed third album from Dutch symphonic metal troupe DELAIN — is out now in North America via Sensory Records. As always fronted by the soaring, vibrant vocals of Charlotte Wessels and drenched in the glorious keyboard passages of band founder ex-Within Temptation keyboardist, Martijn Westerholt, We Are The Others boasts twelve of the most epic DELAIN hymns to date, with the North American version containing four additional exclusive live bonus tracks.
We Are The Others is now streaming in its entirety via Blistering.com; PLAY IT HERE.
Interviews with Charlotte Wessels and Martijn Westerholt are available to North American journalists now via Earsplit PR.
We Are The Others is an album littered with concepts in every aspect, from lyrically bridging fantasy with reality and actual events in history, to the steampunk-influenced cover art created by noted pop surrealist Glenn Arthur. DELAIN enlisted a massive production team for the recording, including Jacob Hellner (Rammstein, Apocalyptica), Fredrik Thomander and Anders Wikstrom (Scorpions, Backyard Babies), bringing every element of the album to life. The band met Fear Factory vocalist Burton C. Bell at Wacken Open Air, which resulted in a guest appearance on the album.
“Addictive songwriting with the right balance of catchiness, Delain could out maneuver Within Temptation based on this output. 8/10” – Blistering
“…a solid modern symphonic metal album and it may be Delain’s best album to date.” – About.com
“…the new material… stack up well and may well enable Delain to push even more into the mainstream. 4/5” – Sea Of Tranquility
“…We Are The Others finds the band on a continuing course of symphonic metal, but with a refreshing injection of rock groove and accessibility. 4/5” – Dangerdog Music Reviews
“…one of the strongest records in this vein of metal to come out in a really long time… It’s catchy, atmospheric, cathartic and soulful, without being generic and watered down or saturated in pretentious synth-nymphomania… 8/10” – Axis Of Metal
Check out The Last Vegas’ brand new video “Evil Eyes”, as well as “The Other Side” and “Apologize” below.
“Evil Eyes” was produced and directed by the Chicago-based Motion Source Video Solutions (www.motionsource.net). Of the song and corresponding video, The Last Vegas frontman Chad Cherry commented, “We wanted to write a tune that people would want to rock out to, feel sexy and dance to…but in reality, the song’s message is creepy as hell. It’s about stalking people, watching them in their private and personal environment behind closed doors doing things they wouldn’t do in front of people…but someone is in the shadows watching all. Maybe that IS actually sexy, voyeurism and obsession.”
“Evil Eyes” will be on the new album BAD DECISIONS.
BAD DECISIONS is set for a North American street date of August 28th via FrostByte Media. Produced by Johnny K (Megadeth, Disturbed, 3 Doors Down, Airbourne), the album was recorded in the band’s hometown of Chicago and contains the straight-up rock n’ roll meets garage/punk rock sound for which the band has come to be known.
Eagle Rock Entertainment is proud to announce the September 25 release of the Gary Moore CD, DVD and Blu-ray title Blues For Jimi[Pre-book Order Date August 31, MSRP $14.98 for DVD, $19.98 for Blu-ray, and $13.98 for CD].
The Smashing Pumpkins are celebrating the release of their latest album Oceania with a giveaway of five, limited edition canvas art prints of the album cover
(courtesy of Gallery Direct) along with a copy of the record on Double vinyl. Part of the 44-song work-in-progress Teargarden by Kaledyscope,
Oceania is “an album within an album” and was created by the band as an immersive album experience for listeners.

Grammy-winning, iconic guitarist and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee SLASH marked a career milestone today, Tuesday, July 10, as he was honored with his own Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. SLASH’s star is located directly in front of the Hard Rock Café on Hollywood Blvd (6801 Hollywood Blvd, #105 Los Angeles, CA 90028). SLASH’s friends–celebrated film producer Robert Evans, actor Charlie Sheen and beloved radio host Jim Ladd–were guest speakers at the fan-packed ceremony. Afterwards, SLASH and bandmate Myles Kennedy treated fans to a private acoustic performance and exclusive Q&A at the Hard Rock Café Hollywood Blvd.
As a musician, artist, philanthropist, and iconic rock figure, SLASH has amassed album sales nearing an astounding 100 million copies along with a Grammy Award and seven Grammy nominations, plus countless other accolades, accomplishments and acknowledgements, Time magazine named Slash #2, behind Jimi Hendrix, on its “The Ten Best Electric Guitar Players of All-Time.” Slash’s self-titled biography critically well-received, climbed the bestseller list in both the U.S. and U.K. hitting #8 on the NY Times Bestsellers list. Guitar Hero used SLASH’s image and music, producing an installment that shattered previous gaming records while opening the floodgates to a whole new generation of fans.
SLASH Featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators—Myles Kennedy (vocals), Brent Fitz (drums) and Todd Kerns (bass)–recently released their new album APOCALYPTIC LOVE (May 22, 2012). APOCALYPTIC LOVE stormed onto the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart at #4, marking the top rock debut for that week. The disc also hit #1 Independent Albums Chart and #1 Hard Music Albums Chart. “You’re A Lie” the hard-driving first single off the new album is now #1 Active Rock, marking SLASH’s first ever solo #1 hit at radio. All songs on APOCALYPTIC LOVE released on SLASH’s own Dik Hayd International, and distributed through EMI Label Services were written together by SLASH and Myles Kennedy as they spent the last two years on tour all over the world. Critical acclaim is pouring in for the album. Revolver magazine declared “Apocalyptic Love is at heart a collection of lean, high-octane rock-and-roll tunes built to be blasted out of open-top sports cars or, more suitably, open-air stadiums” (July 2012). The Los Angeles Times added, “Fans of his work in GNR and Velvet Revolver will find much to embrace in the album’s 13 tracks, ranging from the sneering rock hooks of ‘You’re a Lie’ and the heavy metal grind of ‘Halo’ to the extended instrumental passages on ‘Anastasia.’” Elsewhere, Rolling Stone.com hailed “the album is filled with head bangers and plenty of fancy fretwork, most notably on standout tracks like ‘Hard and Fast’ and ‘Standing in the Sun’” (May 20, 2012). SLASH and his band, including touring guitarist Frank Sidoris, will launch a summer headlining tour of the U.S. and Canada on July 12 in Portland, OR. They’ll follow that up with a full U.S. headlining tour starting September 4 in San Diego, CA and wrapping October 3 in Los Angeles, CA Ticket info is available at http://slashonline.com/tour. Less than two years after the release of their last record, the critically acclaimed Mammoth, BEARDFISH have returned with a new masterpiece, THE VOID, which will be released August 28 via InsideOut Music. The album is darker and heavier, and in some parts even has a bit of a metal edge to it, while still incorporating all that BEARDFISH and their typical warm retro-sound stand for.
The band comments: “We went full-on with this one… We’ve had some trouble in the past conveying our live energy on the studio albums. This is the one that shines through! It’s an album about loss. It’s about love. It celebrates both life and death and the struggle in between to heal the wounds that don’t show and to actually take the step to move forward in life. We’ve been waiting to share these songs with all of you for a while now and we, Beardfish, are really proud to present to you ‘The Void’.”
