The drummer for musician Ted Nugent is facing multiple charges after police say he drunkenly stole a golf cart after the band’s show on the Bangor waterfront Sunday, according to police.
Bangor police Officers Steve Jordan and Jim Dearing were working at the waterfront pavillion during Sunday’s show featuring Styx, REO Speedwagon and Nugent when security alerted them to an issue behind the stage, according to a news release from Sgt. Paul Edwards.
Police were alerted that Mick Brown, 55, who is Nugent’s drummer, had stolen a golf cart used by Waterfront Concerts staff and was drunkenly driving it around the Front Street area at about 9:45 p.m., according to Edwards.
Several people had attempted to stop Brown, but he had sped away down the foot path near the Sea Dog, the sergeant said. Jordan later observed the cart with two females on board near the Railroad Street crossing, and attempted to stop Brown, again without success.
After Brown had accelerated past Jordan, Edwards said a security officer got close enough to stop him, but Brown gave the officer a shove. Two other security team members removed Brown from the cart physically and he was placed under arrest.
Brown was taken to the Penobscot County Jail and booked on charges of operating under the influence, driving to endanger, theft and assault. He was later released on $4,000 bail.
Brown is due in court Aug. 15.

Nickelback is certainly one of those bands that some fans love to hate. I am not a hater by any means. They always deliver every time I see them live, and it was their live show that made me a fan. I didn’t think their latest album Here and Now was their best, but I did like the song “This Means War”. Check it out in the video clip below!

Bobaflex is a band that I thought was one of the better surprises at Rock on the Range. I have the band’s album Tales From Dirt Town, so I knew some of their songs, but I have not seen them live prior to Rock on the Range. Much to my surprise, most of the songs in their set came from their latest album, Hell In My Heart. I haven’t picked up the CD before Rock on the Range, but it didn’t matter. Bobaflex’s set kicked ass. The McCoy brothers know how to rock a crowd, and there was a ton of people in attendance for the headlining show on the Jaegermeister stage at Rock on the Range. I have to admit, that Bobaflex fell off my radar for quite some time, but after seeing them live, they are a band that I will be paying attention to. I loved their set, and especially loved their cover of the Simon and Garfunkel classic “Sound of Silence”. If you haven’t checked out Bobaflex before, check out their videos below. I think you will like them!
Bobaflex set list at Rock on the Range included the songs: “Chemical Valley”, “Home”, “Vampire”, “Sound of Silence”, “Low Life”,” Bury Me With Guns On”, “Rise”, “Dangerous”, and “Slave”
THE MIGHTY SWINE features Mike Skimmerhorn (CJSS, CHASTAIN) on Vocals / Bass, Joe Riley (Liquid Fire) on Guitar / Vocals, and Dann Norris on drums.
THE MIGHTY SWINE released their full length debut release in 2009 featuring the single Layin Down the Law which made HARD ROCK NIGHTS Best of 2009 Playlist along with favorable reviews including Blabbermouth.net
THE MIGHTY SWINE have opened for Godsmack/FFDP, Dokken, Skid Row, LA Guns, Adler’s Appetite, more
- THE MIGHTY SWINE released their single LUST / Pagan Holiday May 29 with its first professional video
- Its video for LUST racked up over 3000 views in its first month on Youtube and was Artist Pro Spotlight Artist for June 2012
Due to reasons well beyond the band’s control, FEAR FACTORY will not be taking part in this Summer’s Shockwave Tour, slated to commence July 6 in Seattle.
Commented the band in a collective statement: “We are truly disappointed not to be part of the Shockwave tour. We send our sincerest apologies to all our North American fans planning to come out this Summer, but we will be back. Please look for FEAR FACTORY headlining dates in August.”
FEAR FACTORY recently unleashed their latest full-length, The Industrialist, Stateside on June 5 via Candlelight Records. Commended by Revolver in a 4/5 review for offering up “the same pulsating, angry urgency of old…nicely counterbalanced by some incredibly deft melodies,” called “…a well-orchestrated montage of universal agitation and despair,” by Alarm, and crowned “…their most aggressive offering to date,” by Exclaim, The Industrialist is the second album written by vocalist Burton C. Bell and guitarist Dino Cazares since reuniting in 2009 after a seven-year split.

On The 13th Day also picks up where The Visitation left off, boasting 11 soaring, brand new totally epic rock songs packed with hook filled choruses, glorious flowing melodies, luscious keyboards and flowing guitar licks. Right from the opening track “All The Dreamers”, (set to be the new “Sacred Hour”) you get an instant feeling that this album has something very special to offer. “So Let It Rain”, the first single to be taken from On The 13th Day, will without a doubt soon be officially classified as ‘classic’, while “Dance Of The Black Tattoo”, which, from the moment the first drum beats crash out of the speakers, mesmerizes from start to finish. ART BOOK COLLECTION OF PHOTOGRAPHY
BOOK TOUR LANDS AT BOOK SOUP IN LOS ANGELES
VISIONARY AND PERCUSSIONIST FOR THE GRAMMY-WINNING, MULTI-PLATINUM GROUP SLIPKNOT,
ANNOUNCES DAILY BOOK SIGNINGS DURING
ROCKSTAR MAYHEM FESTIVAL ALL SUMMER LONG
“…Crahan’s soul shines through in his over-exposed snaps of urban decay, and the pictures of his Slipknot bandmates are absolutely chilling. A jarring view through an unsettling lens.”
–Chris Krovatin, Revolver, (July/August 2012)
M. SHAWN CRAHAN aka clown–the founder and visionary behind one of the biggest hard rock bands in the world, the multi-platinum, Grammy-winning Slipknot–stopped into the renowned book store Book Soup in Los Angeles this past Friday (June 29). For two hours, CRAHAN addressed the crowd–which included his friend and Slipknot bandmate, lead singer Corey Taylor–and signed copies of his first-ever art book and collection of photography, THE APOCALYPTIC NIGHTMARE JOURNEY (MTV Books).
Slipknot is currently headlining the Rockstar Mayhem Festival which kicked off this past Saturday (June 30) and continues through August 5. CRAHAN has announced he will do daily book signings for THE APOCALYPTIC NIGHTMARE JOURNEY on the tour and he’ll offer the large format, stunning coffee-table book at a discounted price of $30.00 (plus $10.00 shipping from the festival) to fans onsite. All dates listed below.
APOCALYPTIC NIGHTMARE JOURNEY is an art book collecting eleven years of manipulated medium format Polaroids, each an exploration in darkness and light, and a representation of CRAHAN’s second and equally powerful artistic outlet. Weird, wired, paranoid, and endlessly imaginative, ANJ is Shawn’s hand-picked collection of over 187 giant, never-before-seen images in numerous styles. For a 25-Page digital book preview of APOCALYPTIC NIGHTMARE JOURNEY (MTV Books). Click here:
Lars Ulrich of Metallica penned the forward for Apocalyptic Nightmare Journey after seeing M. Shawn Crahan’s photography at a gallery show. From Ulrich’s forward:
“Let go of the bungee cord, do away with the safety net. Just go for it, and let the journey take you wherever the journey’s going to take you. And as you’re going on that trip through this book, occasionally imagine clown next to you. Imagine hearing his voice in your head talking about what these images and experiences have meant to him and where he was going with it. And you will end up on one fuck of a ride, that I can guarantee you will be unique, spellbinding, and potentially life altering. This book is everything that art should be.”
2012 continues to be a big year for CRAHAN, which started with the announcement of his new Film/TV production company Living Breathing Films at Sundance, the release of his first book THE APOCALYPTIC NIGHTMARE JOURNEY, a headlining run on the Rockstar Mayhem Festival and the creation of the first-ever Knotfest music festival (August 17 and August 18).

Drawing strongly from their many years as hard rock veterans, The Cult have returned with a superb record, Choice Of Weapon. Filled with grand moments of classic rock, hard rock, dark sounds, metal celebration, and all the classic rock and roll elements that metal heads enjoy, Choice Of Weapon is a grand album that should help fans remember that The Cult are a premier hard rock act.
The Cult has always been one of those bands stuck on the cusp of greatness. In the 80s they had plenty of modest hits, but lacked what would be considered a breakthrough song. With the release of 1989’s Sonic Temple, and their massive hit “Fire Woman” it appeared that The Cult was finally going to take their turn basking in the limelight of the hard rock elite. However, for some reason, that didn’t happen, and the band drifted into the background again. This is something I’ve never been able to figure out regarding The Cult. They are an extremely talented, enjoyable band. Why aren’t they more of a household name?
Hopefully, Choice Of Weapon will be the album that puts them back in print and brings the band to the forefront of recognized hard rock acts. It’s obvious from the wonderful product released, that The Cult only chose their best material when recording Choice Of Weapon.
Ian Astbury’s voice is still a sound of beauty, even though he’s been singing and touring for almost 30 years. Billy Duffy’s ability with the guitar has not faltered over the years either, and is still the perfect compliment to Astbury’s vocals. Astbury and Duffy together still make magic comparable to (or even better than) Tyler/Perry, Simmons/Stanley, and Jagger/Richards.
“Life>Death” is a powerful anthem and one of the best tracks on Choice Of Weapon. Reminiscent of a David Bowie song on steroids, “Life>Death” has a powerful hook and a chorus that draws the listener in and guarantees a hit of the repeat button on the MP3 player (or whatever device is being used to play this beauty). With a brilliant solo, stupendous vocals, and a perfect harmonic blend of assorted rock sounds and styles, “Life>Death” is one of the better rock songs that I have heard this year.
“Wilderness Now” is the first song on the album that I didn’t immediately love. Compared to the rest of the solid class of music, “Wilderness Now” is just boring. Astbury’s voice doesn’t sound as pleasing as on other songs, the guitar work is plain and pedestrian, and the overall beat is slow and lacking in creativity or originality. It is the only blemish on an otherwise amazing record.
“Lucifer” makes up for the lacking “Wilderness Now” by bringing back the punch and energy to Choice Of Weapon. A hard rocking, foot stomping, punch in the face reminiscent of a Rob Zombie anthem, “Lucifer” is an energetic tune packed with passion. Astbury’s voice is at its best and Duffy adds some intense guitar work to finish off this fantastic song. “Lucifer” could be the hit that paves the way for a whole new legion of Cult fans.
If you’ve missed The Cult, or if you are seeking a hard rock beauty to add to your stereo this summer, pick up a copy of Choice Of Weapon. You will not be disappointed. With magnificent riffs, fantastic vocals, and a whole lot of power, Choice Of Weapon satisfies as the choice of album for the summer.

Check out the brand new video “Never Enough” from Texas rockers Black Tora! “Never Enough” will be on Black Tora’s soon to be released EP.
The Midwest Rock N Roll Express tour featuring Ted Nugent, REO Speedwagon and Styx came to Cincinnati, Ohio on Tuesday June 26th.
I was surprised to find that Ted Nugent was leading off the show, but I was ok with that as I was pretty excited to see Uncle Ted & company play again. Ted Nugent’s band is rounded out by Derek St. Holmes on rhythm guitar and vocals, “Wild” Mick Brown on drums and Greg Smith on bass. St. Holmes rejoined Ted Nugent’s band in 2011, and is the voice of several of Ted Nugent’s hits including “Free For All”, “Cat Scratch Fever”, “Stranglehold”, “Hey Baby” and “Just What The Doctor Ordered”. The band played all of these songs and more and have never sounded better. St. Holmes still has an awesome voice, and Ted Nugent is a lot of fun to watch play. He makes a lot of crazy faces while playing the guitar, and isn’t afraid to say anything in his live set. “Wild” Mick Brown looks like his is having the time of his life playing drums for Ted Nugent. It was good to see him behind the drum kit.
REO Speedwagon is the second band to take the stage, and quite frankly, I didn’t know what to expect. This is the first time that I saw REO Speedwagon live, and I have to say, I was pretty impressed. I had forgotten how many great songs REO Speedwagon has. Lead singer Kevin Cronin sounds exactly the same as he did back in the 80’s. His voice is spot on perfect. The main highlight of the evening was REO’s performance of their song “Back on the Road Again”. This song is great hard rocker through and through, and while I have never considered REO Speedwagon a hard rock band, this song made me rethink this. After the show, I immediately went online and purchased the band’s albums, Nine Lives and Hi Infidelity. I am hoping that REO Speedwagon comes back to town again sometime in the near future. I can’t wait to hear these songs live again.
Styx is he headliner and the Midwest Rock N Roll Express tour and rightfully so! If you are one of those fans that won’t see the band due to Dennis DeYoung not being in the band, you are truly missing out. Styx was on fire on Tuesday night, and played a ton of their hits including “Blue Collar Man”, “Grand Illusion”, “Man in The Wilderness”, “Fooling Yourself”, “Too Much Time On My Hands”, “Lady”, “Lorelei “Miss America”, “Come Sail Away”, “Rockin’ The Paradise and “Renegade”. Styx’s current lineup is James “J.Y.” Young on vocals and guitar, Tommy Shaw on vocals and guiar, Todd Sucherman on drums, Lawrence Gowan on keyboards and vocals, and Ricky Phillips on bass. Tommy Shaw has been a favorite musician of mine for a long time now. His voice is still amazing after all of these years. This is the second time I have seen Styx with this lineup, and they have put on a tremendous show both times, but I think this one was my favorite of the two I have seen. The band had Chuck Panazzo come out to play a few songs towards the middle of the set. It was good see Chuck back on bass again too!
Although, Styx, Ted Nugent and REO Speedwagon will continue tour for the rest of the year. The Midwest Rock N Roll Express only has 5 dates left. Be sure to
check it out if it hits your town. It was great night of rock and roll in Cincinnati, and I am very glad that I went!
