I don’t think we have talked any where near enough about the band Halestorm at Hard Rock Hideout in 2012, and that has got to change starting now. My first introduction to Halestorm was when, I saw the band play live back in February 2009, when they opened up for Black Stone Cherry and Seether. I was impressed with the band back then, and their live performance has only gotten better since then. I have been wanting to see them live again for a couple of years, and for whatever reason, I kept missing them. In 2012, I have been luck enough to see them three times, including twice this past weekend.
Halestorm closed out their summer U.S. tour with New Medicine and Cavo. Their final two dates were in Cincinnati, Ohio and Lexington, KY. Both shows were well attended, and the Cincinnati show at
Bogart’s was pretty close to being sold out.
New Medicine and Cavo did a solid job opening up both shows, but it was Halestorm that owned the stage. There is a crazy amount of talent in the band, with singer Lzzy Hale, and her brother Arejay on drums, Joe Hottinger on guitar and Josh Smith on bass. Lzzy’s vocals are more powerful now than ever. From her silky smooth vocals to her raging metal like screams, Lzzy Hale is a singer that can simply do it all. She had me mesmerized with the band’s opening number “Love Bites”, and blew me away with their cover of Skid Row’s “Slave To The Grind”. I don’t even thing Sebastian Bach can scream like that anymore.
Arejay Hale has reinvented the drum solo. It has been a long time since I have seen any band do a drum solo. This was such a common thing in the 80’s, and it has seemingly gone by the way side in rock and roll as of late. Mr. Hale is a wildman on the drums. He can hardly be contained by his drum kit. Not only is his drum solo excellent, he also plays bare handed much like former Whitesnake drummer, Tommy Aldridge.
I was blown away by his playing.
Halestorm’s set was exactly the same for the Cincinnati, and Lexington shows, but it didn’t matter. The music both nights was fantastic. It was a great weekend of rock and roll, and I am glad I was able to catch Halestorm, before they left for their UK Headlining Tour. I only wish they could have played longer!
Halestorm’s Set List was: “Love Bites”, “Mz. Hyde”, “It’s Not You”, “Familiar Taste of Poison”, “Rock Show”, “American Boys”, “Don’t Know How To Stop”, “Break In”, “Private Parts”, Arejay’s drum solo, “Slave To the Grind”, “You Call Me Bitch Like It’s A Bad Thing”, “I Miss The Misery”, “I Get Off” and “Here’s To Us”.

Indianapolis natives YOUNGBLOOD finally release their amazing debut album “NO RETREAT” this October, through Eönian Records.
Featuring guitarist and producer Jeff Diehl, who has worked with such legends and luminaries as Gene Simmons, Sweet FA, Ma Kelly, Night Ranger, Kramus, Eddie Kramer and many more. YOUNGBLOOD also toured extensively as Epic Records recording artist Henry Lee Summers’ backing band.
With industry and media stalwarts likening YOUNGBLOOD’s sound to that of Slaughter, Steelheart, Firehouse, Skid Row, Motley Crue, Extreme and even Bon Jovi, this album is sure to light up the airwaves and be recognized as a bonafide modern classic of Sunset Strip influenced heavy rock.
Featuring mind-blowing musicianship, and completely re-mixed and re-mastered, these tracks – originally recorded for Sony/Epic Records in 1989 – storm out of the speakers like velvet thunder, and with the global resurgence of hard rock and hair metal are sounding as contemporary as anything recorded today.
Hard Rock archaeologists Eönian Records have partnered with YOUNGBLOOD to deliver what may be THE hair metal release of 2012 – and with ample material still in the vault, you can expect to hear more from this band very soon.
Eönian Records recently began a distribution deal with the premiere and award-winning Independent Distribution Company Sony RED throughout the US and Nightmare Records Worldwide.
YOUNGBLOOD is Bobby Sisk on Lead Vocals, Jeff Diehl on Guitars & Vocals, Eric Saylors on Guitars & Vocals, Danny Williams on Keyboards & Vocals, Kyle Koker on Bass & Vocals, and Kevin Kale on Drums.

Recordings from Roxy Blue, Gypsy Rose, Rock City Angels, The Godz, & Roxx Gang highlight Fall release schedule
While the first half of 2012 has been a little light on the new release roster for FnA Records, that doesn’t mean we haven’t been hard at work. In fact, the little elves have been working their asses off for the past 6 months prepping to put forth a firestorm of major releases this fall. And here we go!
Having been signed by Tom Zutaut, who signed Motley Crue and Guns-n-Roses, managed by the same management company as Motley Crue, and produced by Mike Clink who produced Guns N Roses Appetite For Destruction, FnA Records is proud to announce the upcoming release of 3 bombastic albums by one-time Geffen recording artists Roxy Blue. Roxy Blue was being touted as “The Next Big Thing” with a powerhouse of talent behind them. Enamored were both Motley Crue and Kiss who stopped by to check out Roxy Blue as they prepared for the recording of their debut album, Want Some? The hype was enormous, but no one could’ve predicted the whole Seattle phenomenon. Another band whose potential was cut way too short. There will be two studio releases, and a live album that was recorded right before the band left to record their debut album. There are tons of unreleased tracks for the fans who could not get enough of this band. All three albums will be available for sale individually, or together as a package deal at a reduced price. Autographed copies and a super fan pack with a t-shirt will also be made available.
Second on the agenda and heading for a mid-September release is the album entitled Poisoned By Love by Gypsy Rose, a band who was one of the first to be signed by Kiss’ Gene Simmons to Simmons/RCA back in the days of MTV. This is surely to be one of the best melodic hard rock releases of the year. For those of you who thought that you would be forever limited to the one and only Gypsy Rose album, Prey, hold your hats…its time to enjoy another ride with lead singer Michael Ross and the gang. The album consists of nine tracks recorded from 1988-1992 and definitely shows a growth as to where the band was headed. Of special note are three killer tracks (Hell’s Kitchen, Free Me From Me, Too Many Pieces) recorded at the studio of Steelhearts Michael Matijevic. The bonus tracks will mesmerize and titillate. There are acoustic versions of the fan favorite tracks Poisoned By Love and Don’t Turn Your Back On Me recorded in Florida, as well as two reworked versions of the same two songs recorded in Canada. Rounding out the album are two tracks from the Michael Ross solo debut album. Again, regular versions and autographed versions with t-shirts will be made available.
Unfortunately, Rock-n-Roll lost one of its great ambassadors earlier in the season. We are speaking of course of Rock City Angels front man Bobby Durango. Bobby lived hard and lived the rock-n-roll lifestyle to the fullest, and while we all miss his unique vocal styling, FnA Records is proud to announce that there will be one last Rock City Angels album to complete the legacy of this bluesy frontman who gave us Deep Inside Your Heart. It is true that the band was currently starting preproduction for a brand new studio album, but nothing was ever tracked. So this album by the Rock City Angels, entitled Southern Visions, shall be the last. Southern Visions picks up where Midnight Confessions left off, and if you haven’t heard Midnight Confessions, do yourself a favor and head over to FnA Records (www.fnarecords.net) and pick up a copy. You won’t be disappointed, money back guarantee! Also being stocked by FnA Records is the bands very punk release, Use Once and Destroy.
The Godz are back! Yes, the band that was signed to Casablanca Records alongside Kiss, is set to release three more albums through FnA Records. Although the albums were slated for an early summer release, the albums had to be pushed back, and have been reworked so as to give maximum satisfaction to the listener. One of the most overlooked gems of the 1980’s was the hard-rockin’ Mongolians album by The Godz. While many saw this band as a product of the seventies and the jam scene, The Godz were able to reinvent themselves for Mongolians creating a much heavier sound that could rival that of any 80’s rock-n-roll outfit. The second album is called The Vault, and is just that, an album filled with 18 tracks pulled from the vaults of Eric Moore. Lastly, the third album will be a second disc of more rare and unreleased tracks recently discovered. If you are unfamiliar with The Godz, check out their long, rough and tumble history that has led to the band reaching cult status over the years. Hell, Metallica wont tour with just anyone now!
In late breaking news, Kevin Steele of Roxx Gang cleaned out his closet! Well, that’s not the breaking news, but what is newsworthy to all you hard-rocking glamsters out there, is that in the process, Kevin came across a never released, fully recorded album of material that pre-dates the Things You’ve Never Done Before/Virgin Records era Roxx Gang. It’s been reported that there are roughly a dozen songs, give or take, including some well-worked cover tunes. FnA Records has acquired the rights to this new album and will be releasing it as a companion piece to the mighty 3 disc box set, Boxx Of Roxx, that was released earlier this year. Regular versions, autographed versions, and super fan pack versions with a t-shirt featuring the popular Roxx Gang skull logo will be made available for purchase.
We’ve all heard the term bandied about before. A lot of us have even used it to describe some of our favorite records. “A perfect album.” Critics and disc jockeys have been using those words for decades, but what does it really mean? Have you ever stopped to think what really constitutes a perfect album?
I know that I’ve rated a few albums as perfect in my time. AC/DC’s Back In Black, Kiss’ Destroyer, Meatloaf’s Bat Out Of Hell, to me, they are all perfect. But why are they perfect? What makes these particular albums so much better than anything I’ve ever listened to? The definition of a perfect album really does vary from person to person and critic to critic. And while there are many albums that most people will agree are great albums, getting people to agree on perfect albums is an entirely different process.
My criteria for an album being perfect are pretty simple, but meeting those standards is tough. A perfect album is when each song on the record is so fantastic that you want to listen to the current song as much as you want to play the last song. That’s it. What that really means is that each song on the record is so fantastic you want to listen to it over and over and over again. Each song is such a masterpiece that you can’t stop playing it no matter how badly you want to hear the next track.
There aren’t many albums in existence where all the songs are that good. I’ve already listed a few, but there are others. The Red Hot Chili Peppers, By The Way, Pearl Jam’s Ten, and the self-titled debut from Boston all come to mind. In the history of rock music, these are some of the very best of the best and to me, they have all scored a 10. The reason for that is because each song is as brilliant as the last. Every time that I play those records, I want to hear the next song as much as I want to replay the last song.
A perfect album is a precious gift that does not come around very often. There are several amazing bands that have never accomplished the feat. Black Sabbath has never had a perfect album (although they have come close). Kiss has only done it once. The Beatles have never recorded a perfect album. Rating an album as perfect is a serious statement, and those records have to really earn the title. Each song on the record has to be perfect. Near perfect won’t get the job done. Each song has to be a masterpiece.
When you think about all of the albums that have been recorded throughout history, it’s hard to believe that there haven’t been more perfect albums, but then, that’s the beauty of a perfect album, the rareness of it. It’s like pitching a perfect game in baseball. It doesn’t happen very often, but when it does, it is pure gold (or platinum).
As a rock music critic/blogger, I am always on the lookout for that next great thing. I always want to find an album that can be perfect. And even with all of the great music that has been recorded recently, perfect albums are almost impossible to come by. As much as I love the first two records from Pop Evil and the debut album from Dead Sara, none of those records are perfect. They have all come close, but they haven’t met the criteria. They all had one song that was just a little too weak to be a masterpiece. Thinking about that makes me smile every time I play Back In Black. Here is an album recorded in my lifetime that is perfect—an album that will be enjoyed years after I’ve passed away. That’s an awesome
What about you? What are your criteria for a perfect album? What albums do you consider to be perfect?

Swedish sleaze and punk influenced metal band SISTER recently filmed a video for the track Werewolves on Blackstreet during the band’s recent performance at this year’s Sonisphere Festival in Madrid, Spain. Shot and edited by Jimmy Johansson, Werewolves on Blackstreet highlights the band’s experience at the festival both on and off stage. Check it out below!
“The trip to Madrid and Sonisphere Festival was an awesome experience. We definitely had a fucking blast! To share the stage with giants like Slayer, Soundgarden, Limp Bizkit, The Offspring and Metallica is just wicked. Check out our video and catch some of the highlights from our travel. Sonisphere is indeed a great festival both on and off stage. We want to send out a big thanks to the festival organizers and to our Spanish fans! And of course Jimmy, son of K, Johansson for shooting and editing all of our stupidities. See you guys next time!”
SISTER, who hails from Stockholm/Jönkoping Sweden, formed in early 2006 working hard to build up a name as a strong act both live and in the studio. The band consists of 4 members- Jamie on vocals, Lestat on guitars and backing vocals, Rikki on bass and backing vocals, and Cari on drums and backing vocals- who combine the sounds of Punk, Glam, Rock, and Metal with an end result sounding something like the bastard child of GG Allin and Guns N’ Roses. The band’s Metal Blade debut, HATED, was released in June 2011 and was met with strong praise from press and fans alike.
“The group’s stateside debut, Hated (Metal Blade), is a genre-beinding amalgam of street punk attitude and glam-inspired melodies.” Revolver Magazine
“the bastard sons of Ratt and Bang Tango with a little bit of punk thrown in for good measure” Examiner
“Not like anything you’ve heard before. This album is a combination of all kind of inspirations from glam/punk rock to classic rock n roll, death metal and beyond.” Riff-Mag.com

When Germany’s epic melodic metallers ORDEN OGAN will release their new album “To The End” on October 26th, two of the featured songs will be quite familiar for the fans, because the band decided to re-record “Angels War” and “Mystic Symphony” (both part of their live set for many years but never released on an official album).
Vocalist/guitarist Seeb Levermann explains:
“It was an easy decision to have both tracks featured on an official ORDEN OGAN album finally. “The Mystic Symphony” is from one of our very early demos, while “Angels War” was part of our self-released “Testimonium a.d.” recording from 2004. Since eight years now, both songs are part of our live set because the reactions have always been very good. And of course fans ever since kept asking where they could get these tracks. When we started working on “To The End”, we thought it was the perfect opportunity to “legitimize” the two songs and make them a part of the new album”.
The cover artwork for “To The End” was again created by legendary artist Andreas Marschall.
„We’ve already worked with Andreas for our albums „Vale” and „Easton Hope“ – and for sure we would like to continue working with him in the future.
Andreas Marschall’s artworks very well fit with ORDEN OGAN, because we want everything to be handmade and real. Andreas gives the same attention to details as we do in the production. Therefore a digitally created cover artwork is not what we are looking for – even if it would save costs.
Marschall is a passionate and exceptionally talented artist who was able to capture the mood and atmosphere we had in mind for “To The End“ – just like he did many time before in the past, with acts like Blind Guardian, In Flames or Running Wild”, Seeb explains.
Tracklist “To The End”:

A busy week for gothic orchestral metallers Hanging Doll sees them release “The Sacred & Profane” on 3rd September 2012 on Rocksector Records, whilst making the song “Dark Narcissus (The Forest)” available immediately for free mp3 download. A new video featuring the title track from the album has also been made available featuring a combination of live footage & studio sessions, meanwhile Powerplay magazine have recognized the band with a double-page feature in the September issue out now.
Critical praise has been forthcoming not least from Dom Lawson of Metal Hammer who describes the album as “Bold, epic & inventive with Sally’s glorious voice leading the charge.. this is superlative gothic heaviness with brains, balls & bags of ideas”
The first video, “Carnival Of Sin” released earlier this year has attracted in excess of 13,000 views on Youtube & whilst the shorter catchy side of the compositions is shown there, the new video reveals some of the deeper, darker, progressive elements of the album.
2012 has been a year of high points with Hanging Doll already playing as special guests with legendary former-UFO & Scorpions guitarist Michael Schenker, visiting France, Austria & Czech Republic on that tour. Looking ahead they play a showcase event on 23rd November at London Underworld, with German metallers Mono Inc. & on 15th December the band returns to Manchester, playing at Moho Live in Rocksector’s “Winter Fuel” showcase – more details to come.
“The Sacred & Profane” is released today (3rd September) & is available to buy now on CD at online stores such as Play.com, Amazon.co.uk & HMV.com, & to download at iTunes.

Volume 1 (the covers)
The first new studio album from ZZ Top in nine years is LA FUTURA, set for release September 11 by American Recordings. The album harks back to the hallmark raw sound of the band’s formative years and will, inevitably, be considered a return to form on multiple levels. LA FUTURA, produced by Rick Rubin and Billy F Gibbons, the band’s guitarist/singer, finds the legendary group infusing the newly recorded work with the electric blues/roots approach that typified ZZ Top’s earliest work while, at the same time, reaching for new sonic horizons. At its fundament, this is the incarnation of the band whose influence resonates today with such artists as The Black Keys, Jack White, Queens of the Stone Age and many others.
Now celebrating their 42nd year with the same line-up, Gibbons along with bassist/vocalist Dusty Hill and drummer Frank Beard have come up with ten tracks that reflect the band’s intuitive take on rock brought to new, sometimes surreal, plateaus. “We thought long and hard about what this album should be,” commented Gibbons. “We wanted to recall the directness of our early stuff but not turn our backs on contemporary technology. The result of this melding of the past and the present is, of course, LA FUTURA.”
The fact that the new album’s title is in Spanish is a nod to an early ZZ Top tradition manifested in the titles of some of the band’s earliest albums including Tres Hombres, Fandango!, El Loco and Degüello. Known for decades by the sobriquet “That Little Ol’ Band From Texas,” ZZ Top was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Keith Richards in 2004 and has maintained a very active international and domestic touring schedule over the intervening years. They signed to American Recordings a few years ago and have been working on what would become LA FUTURA in spurts since then. Last year they finally entered Foam Box Recordings in Houston, working full time to lay down the tracks that would comprise LA FUTURA. Additional recording for the album took place at Shangri La Studios in Malibu, CA.
The four songs that kick off LA FUTURA, “I Gotsta Get Paid,” “Chartreuse,” “Consumption” and “Over You” debuted last month as Texicali, a digital preview collection exclusively available from iTunes that achieved significant critical and sales success. “I Gotsta Get Paid,” performed by the band in video spots for the Jeremiah Weed line of beverages raised awareness of the song that was inspired by the 1990’s underground Houston rap song “25 Lighters” by DJ DMD with Lil’ Keke and Fat Pat. USA Today named ““I Gotsta Get Paid” its top pick of the week, citing the band for unleashing “its trademark grit and grease in a raw, bluesy rough-and-tumble treatment…” No Depression called “Consumption” “a grinding groove with a bit of Texan funk squeezed into the grooves.” Music Radar analyzed “Consumption,” noting, “The groove is fat, crunchy and full of swagger,” summing the effort us as “ZZ Top crankin’ up some fresh, vital roadhouse blues.”
Also part of LA FUTURA is, fittingly, “Flyin’ High.” The track made its interstellar debut when it was piped into the Soyuz spacecraft at the time of its launch to the International Space Station thirteen months ago. Before it was fully completed, the song was heard onboard at the request of NASA Astronaut Mike Fossum, a long-time ZZ Top fan and intimate who had caught wind of it in an earlier conversation with Dusty Hill.
LA FUTURA also includes “I Don’t Wanna Lose, Lose, You” that has a real garage rock feel while “Big Shiny Nine” is a double entendre tour de force. “It’s Too Easy Mañana” is a down tempo lament, written by Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, whose chorus includes the lyric “it’s too easy to feel good.” “Heartache In Blue” includes vocals shared by Gibbons and Hill and can be likened to country blues as reimagined for the 21st Century. The album closes with “Have A Little Mercy,” a down and dirty funky tune, complete with tempo shift, that should serve to underscore the ZZ Top motto that “you just can’t lose with the blues.”
ZZ Top is currently on an extensive tour of European concert halls and festivals that kicked off earlier this week at Moscow’s Crocus Hall with other dates in Russia, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, France, Switzerland and Norway. The band will embark on a string of U.S. dates thereafter, highlighted by a rare New York appearance at The Beacon Theatre the day after the release of LA FUTURA. A major multi-tiered marketing campaign will coincide with the release of LA FUTURA, bringing the good news that, at long last, there’s a new ZZ Top album to the nation and the world.

“Shitload Of Money,” the new video featuring the bright lights of Las Vegas (aka “Sin City”), Nevada and Finnish wolf pack SONATA ARCTICA, is now available
The video was made by the Finnish production company Optipari Ltd.
In his interview with Blistering.com, lead singer Tony Kakko shared some information about the song:
“[Y]ou cannot sell something you cannot buy back. A lot of people, especially on Facebook and other social media – and they should consider this! – they are putting their face and privacy out there and you can’t get it back.”
The track comes from SONATA ARCTICA’s latest album, Stones Grow Her Name, which debuted at #9 on the English rock album charts and achieved Gold status in SONATA’s native country for the ninth Finnish Gold disc of their career.
