Five Finger Death Punch’s video for “The Pride” premieres on Vevo TODAY, and can be viewed here: http://www.vevo.com/watch/five-finger-death-punch/the-pride/US5Z51200276. The clip is the first wherein the band has presented live footage from the road within the short-form music video medium. Footage was selected from the band’s successful Metal Hammer Presents Trespass America Tour over this past summer, and the band’s critically acclaimed set at Rock On The Range. The single release of “The Pride” follows the #1 chart-topping single “Coming Down” which remains all over the airwaves of Active Rock radio.
Five Finger Death Punch singer Ivan Moody shares, “One of the best parts of being in this band is that we have the chance to design and build bigger and bigger live shows. Our concerts became spectacular gatherings of our extended family and we wanted to share this amazing experience with everyone. So we wrote & designed this video in dedication of our loyal, dedicated, militant fan base known as Knuckleheads who deserve the best experience we can give them. You’ve all stood by us & diligently helped us introduce the world to Five Finger Death Punch and this is our way of saying THANK YOU ! We couldn’t have done any of this without all of you. WELCOME TO THE PRIDE !”
American Capitalist (Prospect Park) was recently certified gold by the RIAA for shipping over 500,000 copies in the U.S. This milestone marks the third consecutive release from the band to achieve gold certification, with The Way of The Fist (2007) and War Is The Answer (2009) achieving this feat prior. American Capitalist debuted at number 3 on the Billboard charts on October 11, 2011. In a challenging retail environment, Five Finger Death Punch is one of the few amongst any genre to consistently see significant success both digitally and physically. The band’s album sales are complemented with steady single sales that cumulatively have surpassed 3.6 million songs sold.
On achieving this significant milestone with three consecutive gold certified albums, guitarist Zoltan Bathory offered, “I think it’s a huge win for all of us, not just for us as a band but for the entire genre of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal. This is a loud and clear indicator that heavy music is in demand and if a relatively new band like us can accomplish something like this, then maybe be this is just the prelude for the shape of things to come.”
Five Finger Death Punch’s single “Coming Down” was the band’s first number one on the Active Rock charts, and the tenth consecutive Top 10 hit at the format. Going back to “The Bleeding” in the spring of 2008, Five Finger Death Punch has consistently been one of the most heavily played bands at rock radio, as “Never Enough,” “Stranger Than Fiction,” “Hard To See,” “Walk Away,” “Bad Company,” “Far From Home,” “Under And Over It,” “Remember Everything,” and most recently “Coming Down,” each has become an anthem in its own right.
Over the last couple of years, I have heard a lot about Danko Jones and it was all positive. From their live shows to their recorded music, everyone was speaking highly of the band. Even with all of the rave reviews and terrific word of mouth, I never took the time to check them out. So, when their latest disc, Rock And Roll Is Black And Blue, was released, I figured that now was as good a time as any and I decided to give the band a listen. Am I ever glad that I finally took the time to pay attention to Danko Jones.
Rock And Roll Is Black And Blue is the band’s sixth studio album, and having not heard the other five, I wasn’t sure what to expect. What I got was a blues/rock record full of sexual vibes, hard rocking music, and a 10 on the fun factor! Anyone who is a fan of songs about hot women, rock music, and having a great time on a daily basis, is going to love Rock And Roll Is Black And Blue. While the subject matter is light and playful, the music is fast and furious, creating an overall vibe that is nothing short of terrific.
Songs like “Legs,” “You Wear Me Down,” and “Type Of Girl,” are exactly what they seem, but not in a clichéd sort of way. Danko Jones found a way to take standard themes of hard rock music and breathe a whole new life into them, crafting fun songs that everyone will want to sing along to. “Legs” in particular is a great sing along with a shouting chorus of “Legs! Legs! Legs! Long legs!” And while that may seem simple in print, it’s nothing but pure fun with the volume cranked up.
Ripe with rhythmic riffs, several chord changes, and a lot of musical prowess, Rock And Roll Is Black And Blue is a solid album. The passion that Danko Jones has for his music is evident in the songs provided on this disc. Rock And Roll Is Black And Blue is one of those highly entertaining albums that you fall in love with right away. By the second time through the record you will find yourself singing along, hitting the repeat button (particularly for “Legs” and “Just A Beautiful Day”), and just wanting to hear the album over and over again.
Rock And Roll Is Black And Blue is a great reminder that music doesn’t always have to be deep and meaningful—sometimes music can just be fun. Danko Jones reminds us all of what we loved in early sleaze metal: women, music, and women. It’s a refreshing change of pace from the dark melodrama that dominates the rock scene today. If you are yearning to discover fun music that will find your lips moving and your backside shaking, as you dance around your living room in your underpants, Rock And Roll Is Black And Blue is the record for you. Danko Jones, I only wish that I had paid attention to you sooner than this!

What on Earth makes a man release a new solo album twenty-one years after his debut release?
It’s a very good question, and the answer is simple; an unrelenting passion and love for writing songs.
Back in what seems like a lifetime ago Danish singer/songwriter Torben Schmidt was the vocalist, songwriter and mastermind behind the successful Danish melodic rock band Skagarack. The band enjoyed a healthy career, including a Grammy win and an appearance at the prestigious Reading Rock festival, but as the Nineties rolled around front man Torben Schmidt put the band on hold to release his critically acclaimed solo debut, ‘A Bit On The Side’.
Skagarack recorded one album before the band split.
Torben then concentrated on his production company and record label and worked behind the scenes. States Torben, ‘I produced and recorded many great artists, working with music business partners around the world, and it’s all been good and fulfilling, since I was never really a sucker for the fame thing anyway… But the one thing that never left me was the passion for writing songs, I just can’t help it, there is always a song in the back of my mind.’
And neither have Torben’s fans forgotten him. ‘Fans and friends have asked me many times over the years, if and when I would release a new album, and I always answered “next year, next year”. ‘Well, I have said “next year” so many times that it became embarrassing… So, about three years ago I actually started to record a bunch of my song ideas, and before I knew it I had the eleven songs that are featured on “Long Story Short”. I don’t know if these eleven songs are the best of those I have been working on (on/off) over the last three years, but these are the ones I finished first! There is no real concept as such over the album, there’s a definite Westcoast/country feel on a lot of the songs, which I really like, but it’s not a whole album of that kind of stuff. It feels good to finally have the album completed. Twenty one years isn’t that long to wait. Is it?’
Sammy Hagar kicked off his 65th birthday this week with a star-studded lineup of friends who’ve rocked the stage each night in true Birthday Bash style. This year’s jam session is one for the record books with Kenny Chesney rocking the house on October 12. On October 11, Jerry Cantrell (Alice in Chains), Matt Sorum (Velvet Revolver, Guns N’ Roses) Michael Anthony (Van Halen), Billy Duffy (The Cult) and Denny Carmassi (Montrose) hit the stage with Hagar. When Hagar joined Cantrell, Duffy and Sorum on stage for performances of “Loud” and Alice in Chain’s “Man in a Box” the crowd went crazy.
