Fans of Denver thrashers HAVOK are beginning to feel the growing excitement for the approaching North American release date of the band’s third full-length, Unnatural Selection. The album’s lead single, “Give Me Liberty… Or Give Me Death,” impacted metal radio earlier this week; the only single to land on CMJ’s Loud Rock “Most Added” report. Sirius/XM Radio plus Syracuse’s WAQX, Baltimore’s WIYY, and Northern New Jersey metal powerhouse WSOU, among others, are a few of the key early supporters of the single.
To celebrate, Candlelight Records today makes “Give Me Liberty…Or Give Me Death” available as a free download at the label’s official Bandcamp page. The topical thrash anthem delivers the young band’s classic thrash and old-school metal sound.
To download click HERE. All available titles at Candlelight’s Bandcamp are available at a 15% discount through midnight June 3. The code to enter on check out is GiveMeCandlelight.
Currently touring Europe with Suffocation and Cephalic Carnage, HAVOK will kick off North American touring just after the June 25 release of Unnatural Selection. Set to begin July 22, the headlining tour will see the four-piece journey through the southern states, travelling up the eastern seaboard before making their debut performance at Montreal’s annual Heavy MTL festival on August 11.
Special preorder bundles of Unnatural Selection are now available via the band’s official webstore. All bundle customers will be automatically entered into a golden ticket contest; one winner will be picked at random to receive an autographed Charvel Guitar and one of everything in the current HAVOK merch store. Candlelight Records will launch a vinyl preorder in the coming weeks. Visit the label’s official Facebook page or follow the label via Twitter (@candlelightusa) for official details.
Produced by Terry Date (Pantera, Overkill, Deftones) and mastered by James Murphy (Testament, Death, Disincarnate), Unnatural Selection bears a far more mature collection of songs when compared to Burn (2009), and Time Is Up (2011). HAVOK has truly hit their mark with a sound that will please fans new and old. The album features ten new songs, including the band’s rendition of Black Sabbath classic “Children of the Grave.”

Are YOU ready to ROCK?! Airbourne certainly is, and with their third album Black Dog Barking, the band has raised the bar high as far as rock albums in 2013 goes.
While Running Wild put Airbourne on the Rock and Roll map, and No Guts, No Glory proved that the band was the real deal. I believe it will be Black Dog Barking that will bring Airbourne their greatest success yet. Why is that you ask?
Black Dog Barking has not one, but ten songs that could easily be radio singles for Airbourne. Airbourne has managed to load this album with a bunch of killer fist-pumping anthems that are going to please most hard rock fans out there. Joel O’Keeffe sings, screams and plays his ass off on this album, and I hear some definite growth in his playing as well.
“Ready To Rock”, “Animalize”, and “Live It Up” are my favorites on this record but there isn’t one dud in the bunch.
I spent the extra money for the UK import which has three bonus tracks (Why doesn’t the U.S. get these ROADRUNNER?!), and I am glad I did. The bonus songs are pretty solid numbers too.
Some may argue that there isn’t one original thing about Black Dog Barking. I say what the album lacks in originality, it makes up for it with pure hard rock awesomeness. Airbourne is dishing out the best Aussie rock out there right now, and that includes most of the bands that inspired them. Don’t miss this! You won’t be disappointed! Look out for Airbourne on the Rock Allegiance Tour coming to major venues later this summer!

“After last year’s success at Discovery Park, the commitment from Mike Testa of Sacramento Convention & Visitors Bureau and the city, we believe Sacramento is a great home to build a multi-day destination music festival. I am excited to bring the biggest rock show in the past few years to the region,” says festival creator/producer Danny Wimmer of Danny Wimmer Presents.
“The economic impact tied to festivals of this magnitude is significant,” said Mike Testa, senior vice president for the Sacramento Convention & Visitors Bureau. “For this year’s two-day event, when consumed hotel rooms and visitor spending and local attendance are factored in, we expect the economic impact to be the equivalent of a city-wide convention for Sacramento. That number is in the millions financially.”
Discovery Park is a 160-acre park conveniently located near downtown Sacramento, where the American and Sacramento Rivers meet. The Discovery Park boat launch allows boaters access to both the American and Sacramento Rivers, and the park features bike trials, picnic areas, and a playground. Discovery Park is located beside I-5 near downtown Sacramento. From I-5, take the Richards Blvd. off-ramp, then go west to get to the south entrance of the park, or follow the Garden Highway exit east from I-5 to find the north entrance. Signs denote the park’s location from I-5.
Gates for Monster Energy’s Aftershock Festival open at 11:00 AM each day.
Monster Energy’s Aftershock Festival is produced by Danny Wimmer Presents, producer of Welcome To Rockville in Jacksonville, FL, and a partner in the biggest rock festivals in America, including Rock On The Range in Columbus, OH, Carolina Rebellion in Charlotte, NC, Epicenter—Southern California’s Rock Festival, as well as the Rock Allegiance Tour.
Platinum-selling Texas quintet Flyleaf have just announced a string of Summer co-headlining tour dates with P.O.D kicking off on July 13th in Kenosha, WI and wrapping up on August 10th in San Diego, CA. Flyleaf bassist Pat Seals talked about the upcoming tour saying, “Flyleaf is very excited to hit the road this Summer with P.O.D.! Opening for them in 2005 on the Fall Brawl Tour was a very special experience for me, being a fan of the band since the release of “The Fundamental Elements of Southtown.” P.O.D. live is always explosive and heartfelt – it will be a privilege to share the stage once again.”
Loudwire spoke about new singer, Kristen May on her first tour with the band saying she “hit the stage with spunk and charisma. May has her own unique style and vocal deliverance, which was still both hardhitting and melodic. The singer also seemed incredibly comfortable with her new band mates onstage.”
The tour supports Flyleaf’s latest release, New Horizons, as critical acclaim keeps pouring in. Alternative Press gave it a 3-out-of-5 stars, ARTISTdirect called the album, “Best album to date,” and Bloody Disgusting extolled is as “Fantastic.” Fans can pick up the album on iTunes now.

On the release date of Alice in Chains’ fifth album, The Devil Put The Dinosaurs Here, I thought a couple of the band’s recent clips were appropriate. The band has done a great job capturing their classic sound (minus Layne Staley, God rest his soul) on the songs “Hollow” and “Stone”. Check them out!
Every hard rock fan has them. No matter how long you’ve been banging your head to your favorite rockers, there are just some bands that you have missed seeing live. Maybe the price was too high. Maybe you were sick when they came to your town. Maybe you didn’t have anyone to attend with and didn’t want to fly solo. Whatever the case, we all have certain bands that we missed out on, but really want to see.
I am almost ashamed to admit some of the bands that I have yet to see live. Hard Rock Hideout might take away my headbanger’s license and I may even lose some hard rocking credibility. But yes, there are several bands that I have missed out on. I hope to rectify that sometime in the future. For some of these bands, I’d better act fast, because they aren’t getting any younger.
Not only have I never seen Black Sabbath live in concert, but I’ve never seen Ozzy Osbourne either. And it certainly isn’t due to lack of opportunity. Several Ozzfests and Sabbath reunions have rolled through the NY/NJ area, and yet, I’ve attended none of them. Sometimes it was due to not liking who else was on the bill. A couple of times it was due to financial restraints. And then for the Maiden/Ozzy Ozzfest, I just have no excuse. To this day I do not know why I missed that one. However, all that will be rectified because this summer I will finally get to see Black Sabbath. It may be without Bill Ward, but ¾ of Sabbath is better than none.
Don’t ask me why, because I really don’t know, but I have never seen Metallica live. I even got a last minute invite to attend the Big Four at Yankee Stadium and had to turn it down due to work. Looking back now, I should have called in sick that day. From what I’ve heard, Metallica puts on one of the greatest concerts in the history of hard rock. I’ve been a fan of the band since Master Of Puppets, so there really is no excuse. I guess the next time they come around I will have to make it my mission to see their show.
This is another band that I just keep missing. Lately I haven’t liked who they have been touring with. I know that shouldn’t prevent me from seeing the band, but it does. I can’t sit through bands I don’t like just to see Megadeth. So when it was announced that they were opening up for Iron Maiden this fall, I was extremely excited. Unfortunately, there are no tour stops even remotely close to me. I’ve been considering travelling to see this show, but so far the financial impact has prevented me from moving forward with that plan. That’s not to say it won’t happen, but as of now, it’s not looking too promising.
Even I can’t believe that I’ve never seen Alice Cooper in concert. I have had several opportunities to do so and it just never happened. I am so stymied by this that I gave a long hard debate on going to see him this summer for his tour with Marilyn Mason. There’s just one small problem with that. I can’t stand Marilyn Manson. I like one song (“Beautiful People”) and I think his remake of “Sweet Dreams” is okay. Other than that, I don’t like Manson. And the worst part is that I’ve seen Manson live (he opened for Nine Inch Nails back in the day). And yet, I’ve never seen Cooper. Do I bite the bullet and just go into the venue late?
This one hurts most of all, because if statements are to be believed, Judas Priest will tour no more. Their last tour was their last tour and I missed out. Once again, work got in the way of this one. I really need to learn how to tell my job to shove it more often. Anyway, this is the one band that I think will bother me the most, because I just think Judas Priest is a band that you have to see live once in a lifetime. Granted, I am not a huge fan. As a matter of fact, I am a bigger fan of all the other bands on this list, but Judas Priest is still a band that I wanted to see in concert. Hard Rock Hideout’s esteemed editor, Rob Rockitt, has told me that they are absolutely amazing live. He was even nice enough to send me pictures the last time he saw them in concert. Damn was I jealous. I suppose all I can do now is hope that they will come around for a reunion tour someday.
Those are the major bands that I’ve missed out on. What about you? What bands have you missed seeing live that you are still kicking yourself about today?

DON FELDER (@donfelder)–former guitarist of the Eagles, New York Times best-selling author and four-time Grammy® Award winner–will be joining Peter Frampton’s “Guitar Circus” tour, along with many other legendary guitar players, for a batch of stops starting June 13 in Windsor, Ontario at Caesars Windsor. FELDER continues his touring activities in support of his second solo album (and first since 1983), ROAD TO FOREVER, which was released October 9, 2012 on Rocket Science Ventures.
WHITE WIZZARD has launched a new track, “Strike The Iron,” taken from their upcoming third full-length album, The Devils Cut. Due out on June 3rd in Europe via Earache Records and on June 25th in the USA via Century Media/Earache Records, The Devils Cut features artwork by Cameron Davis (http://www.cdavisart.com), who is known for his work as the lead character designer and illustrator for the Guitar Hero video game series.
WHITE WIZZARD bassist and main-man JON LEON comments about “Strike The Iron”:
“‘Strike the Iron’ is my favorite WHITE WIZZARD song I have ever written, along with ‘The Sun Also Rises’, which closes the new record. I am very proud of the arrangement. I had the verse melody in my head and chorus line before I even picked up the guitar and started writing it. It has stunning leads by Jake and Will, and Joseph interpreted the vocal melody fantastically and gave so much character to it. This song really exemplifies everything this line-up is capable of and everyone’s talents really came through on it. It never lets up and we are very excited to get this one out there live…I expect it to be our opening song for the next couple of years.”
Listen to “Strike the Iron” here: http://youtu.be/FnKnQ_EahYI
The previously released album track, “Kings Of The Highway,” can be heard here.
Since their inception in 2007, Los Angeles’ WHITE WIZZARD has stuck to their manifesto of delivering classic, denim-and-leather heavy metal to the masses. Following the triumphs and critical acclaim that accompanied their first two albums, Over The Top (2010) and Flying Tigers (2011), WHITE WIZZARD has now returned with a brand new slab of high-speed heavy metal for this summer. The band’s main-man, Jon Leon, spent months crafting the nine songs that make up The Devils Cut before heading to the studio with a refreshed line-up of musicians to lay down the tracks. The man behind the distinctive vocal chords is Joseph Michael, ably backed up by the shredding might of Jake Dreyer and Will Wallner and the precision drumming of Giovanni Durst– making WHITE WIZZARD one of the most volatile forces in the US heavy metal movement!

THE ANSWER are set to return in 2013 with a new album and full UK and European tour.
Keeping the beacon of Irish rock music well and truly alight, THE ANSWER have consistently delivered commercial, and critically acclaimed albums. The band have also spent the last eight years touring the world and proving themselves to be an incendiary live act- spending almost two years as main support to AC/DC and playing to over 2 million people, performing festivals across the globe and also supporting the likes of The Rolling Stones, Whitesnake and Wolfmother as well as countless headline tours.
Since releasing their third studio album in late 2011, the band instigated a major shake up in their circumstances and with new management, live booking agents and record label on board, late 2012 saw them enter the studio with ex Little Angels vocalist Toby Jepson at the production helm. The new record, “New Horizon” will be their fourth studio album and with mixes from rock icon Mike Fraser (AC/DC, Metallica), the new album will be released on September 30th 2013 through label Napalm Records GmbH.

Cormac Neeson: “We’re back and we’re back in a big way. Our love for rock ‘n’ roll is still as fresh as a skinny dip in the Lagan (that’s the big river that runs through Belfast!) and we really believe that this is by far and away our best album to date. We can’t wait to get out and play it live!”

“Suicidal is back!” So screams Mike Muir on the lead single to Suicidal Tendencies first album in 13 years, 13. Judging from the collection of songs put on this disc, Suicidal is back indeed. Technically, 13 is the band’s first album since 2000’s Free Your Soul And Save My Mind, hence part of the reasoning for the title 13. 13 years is a long time to be out of the spotlight and away from the fans. The big question on everyone’s mind was could Suicidal still deliver exceptional thrash/metal music after such a long hiatus? The short answer to that question is yes.
Opening with the hard hitting “Shake It Out,” 13 delivers an immediate impact that both long time fans and newcomers alike are bound to enjoy and praise. The opening guitar riff and drum beat scream out this is a hardcore, thrash album that needs to be played loud. A self-celebrating praise of their return, “Shake It Out” is a reminder of how much fun Suicidal Tendencies can be. This is a hard hitting opener that makes me want to listen over and over again.
“God Only Knows…Who I Am” features a solo by Dean Pleasants that is jaw dropping. The song opens slower than most on the album, but it builds in intensity and anticipation as it develops. By the time the chorus arrives, ears are hooked and fists are pumping into the air. This is an immensely pleasing, amazing song. The build up to the chorus is a great set up for the explosion in the middle. The eruption is pure ear candy and “God Only Knows…Who I Am” could be one of the best Suicidal Tendencies song ever recorded.
“Show Some Love…Tear It Down,” highlights guitarists Dean Pleasants’ and Mike Clark’s exceptional abilities and how they are able to weave so well together. The guitars are heavy, the groove is tight, and the song is flat out fun. This is yet another song that will find fans singing along after just one or two listens. I had a grin planted on my face after just one listen. This is a perfect song for moshing or head banging (depending on your preference). And while it slows down in the middle, it just gives the listener a reason to catch their breath before the song takes off in a fit of rage once again.
Overall, 13 is a fantastic album. If you are a fan of How Will I Laugh Tomorrow… or Lights, Camera, Revolution, then you are going to love 13. Layered with multiple infectious grooves, powerful hooks, heavy guitars, and lots of funk and fun, 13 is a powerful album that takes the listener on a journey of musical styles with thrash metal always remaining as the main focus. Suicidal Tendencies did a phenomenal job with this record. There is not a bad song on the album and it is near perfect. When it comes to voting for album of the year, 13 is definitely going to get heavy consideration.

If you are a fan of classic riff rock, then 2013 has been a very good year for you, with kick ass new releases from Krokus, Airbourne and Irish rockers Screaming Eagles!
I don’t know what is in the water in Ireland, but I wish they would share their water supply with the rest of the world. Two great Irish revival rock acts in the Answer & Million Dollar Reload are already making major waves in the worldwide rock scene. Judging from the tunes on From The Flames, Screaming Eagles will be the next big rock act from the Emerald Isle.
Singer Chris Fry is a another great vocal find. His voice falls somewhere in between Lex Koritni (Koritni) and Josh Todd (Buckcherry). As far is singers go, that is pretty good company to be in, in my opinion. His voice oscillates between a clean singing style, and more than enough rasp to make the songs fun to listen to. His partner in crime, Adrian McAleenan dishes out a rockin’ bunch of guitar riffs that complement’s Fry’s voice in the best kind of way.
The great thing about this CD is, there is no filler. Every song rocks! There are no sappy ballads, no acoustic stripped down numbers. From the Flames has ten rocking tunes that ought to please the pickiest of hard rock fans out there. “Down The River”, “Vampire” and “Blood”are my favorites, but there isn’t a bad song in the bunch.
From the Flames is an independent release that you won’t want to miss. You can get your CD copy of From the Flames at this link or in mp3 form from Amazon.com & iTunes. Do your ears a favor and get this now!!!

Frontiers Records is pleased to announce the release of James Christian third solo album entitled “Lay It All on Me” on July 5th in Europe and July 9th in North America.
Best known as House of Lords singer, James Christian built for himself during the years a reputation as a fine songwriter and producer in his own right. His first solo album “Rude Awakening” was originally released
in 1994 and is, to this day, regarded as a musical delight for any lover of first class Melodic Rock. After the return of House of Lords in the early 00’s, Christian released another classy album entitled “Meet The Man” in 2004, which featured the songwriting of several AOR luminaries such as Stan Bush, Judithe Randall (Mark Free, FM) and his then House of Lords bandmates Chuck Wright and Lanny Cordola.
Now – another 9 years later – Christian steps back with a brand new solo release “Lay It All On Me”, which he recorded and produced in his own studios in Florida during the second part of 2012 and early ’13.
This long wait for has been worth every drop of sweat and tears spilled these past years since Christian superb vocals can really offer the listener a rewarding experience.
James Christian says: “I recorded this solo album during one of the toughest periods of my life. I really tried hard not to let it influence every song as it just did not seem like the right thing to do. I was stirred with many emotions about mortality, but I knew I could get through it. Some of the songs touch upon my fears and other songs touched upon hope and faith. I made sure to throw in a few tongue and check songs to lighten the load. I have a few favorites, such as the title track “Lay It All On Me” which were pretty much the words I used when I found out that I had cancer. But the song itself is not about the Big “C”, but about trial and tribulations in life itself. I also love the two ballads, “Believe In Me” and “Let It Shine”. Both have a quality to them that will surely stand the test of time. Different from “House Of Lords” but very much ME. Then there is “A Day In The Sun” a bit more modern sounding… but what message. And my favorite of the rockers is “Sacred Heart” written by James Christian, Jimi Bell and Jeff Kent. I loved working on this album!”
With songwriting contributions from Tommy Denander, Chris Pelcer, Jimi Bell and Jeff Kent, “Lay It All On Me” is a strong personal statement from James Christian: a mature artist, songwriter, producer and performer who meets his fans with another beautifully crafted melodic rock release. Grab yourself a copy of this album and make sure you add this gem to your collection!
“Lay It All On Me” track listing includes:
Lay It All On Me; Sacred Heart; Day In The Sun; Believe In Me; You’re So Bad; Don’t Come Near Me; Let It Shine;
She’s All the Rage; Sincerely Yours; Shot in the Dark; Welcome to Your Future.

They have taken their roots and made it their own, and in today’s f..ked up mess they call the music business, every now and then a band comes along to prove when done right, there ain’t nothing like a great-riffing, keep-it-simple, rocking blues band that swings from the hip, restoring my faith in all the things I believe to be the makings of A GREAT ROCK & ROLL BAND…with the emphasis on ROLL. About RIVAL SONS:
RIVAL SONS are a raucous, maximum-blues-infused, hard rock band which explodes with the rhythm and roughness of some of the greatest rock acts of all time. From a self-released full-length album Before the Fire and EP (self-titled), to the strength of their live performances, the band gain major attention everywhere they play. Early accolades included a stint opening up for legends like AC/DC and Alice Cooper, several USO shows with Kid Rock, and a televised performance in the pit at The Indianapolis 500. The Huffington Post even dubbed RIVAL SONS as “one of the top 5 bands to watch” during 2010’s CMJ Music Marathon in New York City. RIVAL SONS’ full-length Earache debut, Pressure & Time, was recorded in Los Angeles and released worldwide in May 2011. The record quickly charted in the UK, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland and beyond. And by the time RIVAL SONS embarked on their first full length headline tour of Europe in November 2011 they’d sold out every UK show, as well as gigs across the continent. The album was voted No.2 Album of the Year by Classic Rock Magazine. In 2012, they released Head Down, achieving greater success and acclaim.

A star attraction on the Sunset Strip a generation ago, the band London was once a breeding ground for rock stardom for some of the early members like Nikki Sixx, Slash, Steven Adler, Izzy Stradlin and Blackie Lawless, but there is now a lot to more to London after a flurry of creativity has breathed new life into the band.
Frontman Nadir D’Priest, the iconic pretty boy heartthrob now all grown up, still has the same star qualities that made London such a buzz band back in the day, and he is singing better than ever — as the world will soon find out upon the release of a live new CD for London Live, recorded in Nashville and engineered by the legendary Michael Wagener.
‘I knew the record would have to sound big, and it sounds humongous. That’s the best way I can put it,’ D’Priest said. ‘There was a specific sound we needed. It had to sound large or it wouldn’t even be worth doing, and Michael Wagener is great because he’s one of the superstars of producing.’ Still in place is guitarist Sean Lewis, who has been in London since 1987, and bassist Brian West, whose London pedigree goes back to 1984. Also, London has pulled a big coup by re-uniting with legendary drummer Alan Krigger, a founding member of Giuffria who joined briefly in 1988 and has also played with Tina Turner, Carl Wilson of the Beach Boys and other superstars.
‘It’s an honor to play for London. It’s just a great band to be in,’ Krigger said. There are big plans. In addition to the heavily-anticipated ‘London Live,’ there is a batch of new songs just begging to see the light of the day, and a large-scale tour is planned for the summer.
Instead of being a feeder best known for being featured in ‘Decline of Western Civilization Part 2,’ London is primed and ready to carve a deeper niche with a revitalized comeback that is sure to make the band not just the talk of the town in Hollywood a badge London has worn since the spandex days but now the whole world.
‘There’s also a lot of interest in this kind of music again, and it’s a worldwide interest,’ D’Priest said. ‘The demand is there and it exceeds the Southern California area. Our number one goal is to show people a good time and have a good time ourselves, and that will never change.’
London was formed in 1978 by Nikki Sixx and Lizzie Grey. The lineup shuffled and at times including future Guns N’ Roses guitarists Slash and Izzy Stradlin future WASP singer/bassist Blackie Lawless and future Cinderella drummer Fred Coury.
Once D’Priest joined in 1984, London really began to take off. The band recorded ‘Non-Stop Rock’ and ‘Don’t Cry Wolf’ to critical acclaim, then was introduced to a worldwide audience in 1988 Penelope Spheeris film ‘The Decline of Western Civilization II: The Metal Years.’
A third album in 1990 called ‘Playa Del Rock’was released, and this point the band was sometimes called D’Priest. Frustratingly, the band was still trying to find its grip on mass appeal by this time – why London did not sell millions of records is among Rock’s great mysteries but D’Priest refused to let go of the vision.
Sixteen years passed, and D’Priest dedicated his life to raising a family and being financially successful in business, but as the years went by he learned more than anything that rock and roll was in his blood. He has stayed in great shape mind, body and spirit and eventually an overwhelming urge not just to get up on stage again and the music flow through his body but also to finish what he started, D’Priest was more and more convinced that London is a band the singer could not turn his back on.
London is primed and ready to go from footnote to big toe, and the good news is the band has never sounded better. It’s easier than ever to reach fans at the simple press of a button, and London is ready to rock again and this time they plan to play loud enough that everyone can hear. And they do mean everyone. The live album is produced by London and engineered by Michael Wagener. Roy Z Ramirez (Halford, Bruce Dickinson) provided additional mixes, and Maor Appelbaum (Halford, Bruce Dickinson) did the mastering.
London is also releasing two new tracks, ‘Get Back Home,’ written by D’Priest and West, along with ‘Tu Cultura y Tu Nacion’, London’s first Rock En Espanol single (written by D’Priest) also featuring renowned keyboardist Teddy ‘Zig Zag’ Andreadis, who toured with Guns N’ Roses during ‘Appetite For Destruction’ and ‘Use Your Illusion.’ London is in pre-production for the filming of music videos for both new songs.
Also, London is re-releasing its cult classic LP ‘Don’t Cry Wolf’ on both CD and vinyl (with two different album covers, too) through the London website!

If Nikki Sixx puts his stamp of approval on something, 10 times out of 10, I’m going to at least check it out. So when he decides to hand-pick a band, produce their album and throw them on the opening slot for a Motley Crue tour, I listen and I listen well. Nikki certainly didn’t disappoint with The Last Vegas. I was hooked as soon as their 2009 release, Whatever Gets You Off, hit my ears. Last year, the Chicago quintet followed that album up with Bad Decisions, a raucous, loud, sleazy rock and roll album that leaves you begging for more.
I got my first taste of this album last year when I saw The Last Vegas open for Theory of a Deadman. “Evil Eyes” really stood out for me that night from the instant I heard the crunchy, nasty guitars. And with its addictive groove, “Other Side” was certainly a crowd favorite with its chant worthy chorus: “Whoa, yeah, boy you better be ready/ Last chance, ‘cuz the rumors ain’t lies/ God damn, fucking bitch goes crazy/ You ain’t ever coming back from the other side.”
The dark, brooding bass that opens “Beat to Hell” followed by raunchy guitars and Chad Cherry’s rock and roll scream, certainly sets the tone for the entire album: you’re about to get your ass kicked and it’s going to be a lot of fun. And as if there was any doubt, the title track reassures us that with The Last Vegas, we can do what rock and roll always intended for us all to do…”have a good time making bad decisions.”
Can we talk about Chad Cherry for just a moment? In a sea of monotonous, bland rock singers, Cherry’s voice stands out above them like a stripper in church. You know exactly who it is when his voice screeches out in a song. It grabs you by the balls and makes you pay attention. I think that’s something that can’t be said for a lot of artists today. His stage presence gives off the same kind of attitude, which makes him a force to be reckoned with during their live shows. And if you want to try to grab some of that attitude, then check out his badass, up-cycled, one of kind clothing designs in his Etsy store.
This album just goes from one kick ass song to the next, with seedy guitars and in your face solos that make you want to grab a bottle of Jack and guzzle it. As much as I’d like to sit here and tell you about the rest of the songs on the album, it would get redundant and you’d get tired of reading how awesome each song is. Like Cherry’s clothing line, The Last Vegas are up-cycling some good, old-fashioned rock and roll. They’re taking some great formulas and adding their own touch, their own tastes and making it better. Bad Decisions is quite possibly the best bad decision I’ve made in a long time.
