POP EVIL LAND THIRD #1 SINGLE WITH “TORN TO PIECES” EARNING THE BAND THREE NUMBER ONE SINGLES FROM THE SAME LP
Grand Rapids, Michigan’s sons POP EVIL have landed their THIRD #1 SINGLE with their heartfelt mega-hit “Torn to Pieces,” from their most recent LP ONYX. The band saw two previous singles peak at #1 on the Active Rock charts last year, first with “Trenches” followed by “Deal with the Devil.” “Words can’t explain the feelings I have after finding out and realizing we’ve just accomplished such a rare feat,” says frontman Leigh Kakaty. This marks one of the few times in chart history that an artist on an independent record label has landed three number one singles off the same LP.
The song is one that hits close to home. “Torn to Pieces” is a heartfelt tribute to Kakaty’s late father, who passed away around the time the album was being made. He concludes, “It’s been a roller coaster ride of emotions for me. Through all the outpouring of support from our fan base, we’ve realized that our music can share common ground and help others during rough times.” The band also saw success around an Instagram campaign where they encouraged fans to tag their own stories of loved ones lost with #petorntopieces, using the song. The response was overwhelming.
Pop Evil would like to thank their management team, radio promotion team, record label, rock radio itself, and all the fan support for making this song their 3rd #1 single off Onyx.
The band recently performed in front of 40,000 fans at ROCK ON THE RANGE FESTIVAL held in Columbus, OH. There the band performed “Trenches” with the legendary rapper Darryl D.M.C. McDaniels, who remixed the single for a bonus track on a deluxe edition of ONYX. During the song, the band was honored to have 13 Marines showcasing the Lima Company Eyes of Freedom Memorial standing behind them during its performance.
POP EVIL released Onyx, their third studio LP this time last year and has taken the band on their wildest ride yet. The LP debuted at #39 on the Billboard Top 200 and #9 on the Independent Chart and has since gone on to sell over 85,000 copies in the U.S. alone. The band attributes their success to non-stop hard work, constant touring and writing great songs. The Aquarian weekly put it best when they said, “This group is the average American heavy rock fan’s dream.”
