Two years ago, many folks around the Grand Strand were thrilled about Hard Rock Park. Now, no one seems to want it.
The theme park couldn’t find a qualified bidder at its bankruptcy auction Thursday. The question now – what happens next?
The sign in front of the property still says the park will reopen in 2009. Local officials said that’s highly unlikely.
A Florida company, PARC Management, is interested in running Hard Rock Park but not buying it.
When the company asked local governments if they might be interested in investing in the bankrupt park, the idea went down like a Led Zeppelin.
“Horry County government is not in the amusement park business,” said Horry County council chairman Liz Gilland.
Horry County Attorney John Weaver sees a couple of potential outcomes:
The Chapter 11 reorganization could revert to Chapter 7, which would mean selling off the park’s assets. But he says that’s unlikely because it would be expensive for a buyer to dismantle the rides and move them.
Or, the bankruptcy court could dismiss the case and it would end up in common pleas court. The mortgage holders would repossess the property and sell off what they could.
Or there’s still a chance a buyer could appear at the last minute, and reopen the park. They might be able to get government help through tax credits or job training programs.
“There are some statutory assistance that they should be eligible for,” said Hugh Owens of the Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Corp.
What no one wants is for the park to become an eyesore. Chamber of Commerce and government leaders said, what’s holding things back is how much it would take to turn the park around.
“Hard Rock Park is either going to become a positive or a negative and we’ve all got high hopes that it’s going to be a strong positive and it can, but it’s going to take a lot of money,” Gilland said.
The park declared bankruptcy in September, just five months after it opened.

Talon is a California based band made up of vocalist Chandler Mogel, lead guitarist Jim Kee, rhythm guitarist and keyboards from Kory Voxen, bassist Phil Keller, and drummer John Parker. They are also a band that I have been hearing a lot about over the past couple of months, especially since they opened Firefest V. Once I was able to get my hands on their album “Fallen Angels” I couldn’t wait to hear what all the fuss was about. IF I was a man of few words I could sum up my review of “Fallen Angels” in two words Holy %$#!
These California guys know how to kick ass!! “Fallen Angels” is stuffed with great arena ready melodic rock, amazing guitar work, and outstanding vocals. From what I understand this is the band’s first album with vocalist Chandler Mogel and what an outstanding choice, Chandler is an amazing singer. Since I found out about Talon and “Fallen Angels” I went and picked up their 2002 self titled debut and Chandler simply blows the previous singer out of the water.
Almost every review I have seen mention the opening track “Fallen Angels” as a song of the year now while I personally would not go that far, although there are at least three or four other songs I could consider for song of the year, it is a great song and an excellent preview for the things to come on this album. Filled with soaring vocals, cool keyboard work from Kory Voxen, great background vocals, and outstanding guitar work from Jim Kee, where did this guy come from, he is awesome!!
“Burn” is the second song on the album and it is every bit as great as “Fallen Angels” more brilliant playing from Kee and the band as a whole. Mogel’s vocals are simply addictive. Believe it or not the album only gets stronger after these first two songs.
“What About Me” is the first song on this album I could consider as song of the year. Absolutely amazing, it has a catchy sing along radio ready chorus, background vocals most bands would kill for. This song should sound great in the arenas and have everyone singing along as they bang their heads along with the words.
Another song of the year candidate comes in the form of “Baby Jane” and it is without a doubt the best power ballad I have heard this year. Mogel, Kee, and bassist Phil Keller all shine on this song. This is another song ready made for arenas that should have the audience singing along and flicking their bics.
Remember how I said “Fallen Angels” only gets stronger the further into the album you go. “Always Be My Baby” is another prime example of that, yet another song of the year candidate. Pretty much outstanding everything on this song guitars, keyboards, background vocals. The thing I really love about Voxen’s keyboards on this entire album is they enhance every song without over saturating any of the songs that a lot of bands tend to do.
“Paradise” is probably my least favorite song on the album and it is still a extremely good song, I really don’t know what is keeping me from getting into this song. It has great vocals and more great guitars but it just hasn’t clicked with me yet.
Honestly I could go on and on about how great the rest of the songs on this album such as “I Won’t”, “Crying In The Dark”, “All I Ever Needed”, and “Wrecking Ball 2008” are, but I will make it simple if you like melodic hard rock with great vocals, killer guitars, great songwriting and playing all the way around you have to have “Fallen Angels” in your collection no ifs, ands, or buts about it.

3. What About Me
4. Baby Jane

Only Human is Poley/Rivera’s debut but in name only as the two have worked together on Poley’s previous solo albums “Collateral Damage” , which could have very easily been called Poley/Rivera also. On Poley’s release “Smile” Rivera was not as involved in the recording process but he did write two of the best songs on the album.
If you are familiar with Ted Poley or Vic Rivera’s other projects, namely Danger Danger and AdrianGale then it should be no mystery as to what you are going to get with “Only Human”. Pure unadulterated melodic rock filled with hooks, harmonies, great solos, and sing along choruses.
“Keep on Fighting” starts the album off and it is a straight up rock anthem, hopefully Rivera’s name and talent will get a lot more exposure with this album because he is an outstanding guitarist. He plays this song like he is having the time of his life. Poley’s voice sounds as great as it ever has, this song should go over great live.
“Top of the World” is the kind of radio friendly melodic rock song that made Poley famous. Head bobbing, foot tapping, roll the windows down and sing a long lyrics. This song deserves some radio airplay. Rivera shines on this song also and he does it without a big flashy solo.
The title track “Only Human” is a mid tempo ballad that would easily fit on any Danger Danger album filled with keyboards, huge background vocals and huge guitar sounds. The solo is outstanding with classic 80’s feel.
“Did We Just Have A Moment” is another radio friendly rocker. Poley/Rivera work so well together on every song it just seems like they click perfectly.
The rest of “Only Human” is filled with more radio friendly rockers “The Bigger They Come” and “Delirious” really stand out. “Crossing This Ocean” is a classic ballad you would expect from Ted Poley. “N.W.S.” will appeal to fans of heavier melodic rock.
Danger Danger’s new album may not come out until 2009 some time but the Danger Danger family has been well represented with two very good albums this year. First Marcello/Vestry’s debut earlier this year and now Poley/Rivera’s debut. If you are not a fan of Danger Danger or other similar bands “Only Human” is not going to do much to change your mind. But if you are a fan of Danger Danger, Firehouse, etc. etc. Poley/Rivera will be a great addition to your collection, definitely worth the price of admission.
1. Keep On Fighting
2. Top Of The World
3. Only Human
4. Did We Just Have A Moment
7. The Bigger They Come
9. Fire At Will
10. Breathe Deep
11. Crossing The Ocean
Ted Poley – Vocals
Vic Rivera – Guitars, Bass, Drums, Vocals

Guns N’ Roses will not stage a reunion with their former members, the band’s manager has said.
Ex-guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan have both been linked to a possible return alongside Axl Rose since the release of ‘Chinese Democracy’ in September.
However, in a statement, manager Irving Azoff said: “There are no plans for a reunion, nor have there been any discussions of a reunion, with former Guns N’ Roses band members. In the future, we hope that if media have any questions concerning GN’R, they’d at least check their facts before running inaccurate stories for their own benefit.”
Azoff made no comment on whether Rose planned to return to the road in 2009.
Slash embraced the recent release of ‘Chinese Democracy’ in a recent interview but said he didn’t know about any reunion plans.
Sales of of the album, which arrived after a fourteen year wait, have continued to fall below expectations in the US, where it failed to claim the number one position.
Label bosses at Geffen Records are understood to have shouldered much of the blame on frontman Axl Rose, who has been out of contact for two months.
Classicrockmagazine.com is reporting:
Phil Conalane, singer with Irish rockers MILLION $ RELOAD, has responded to speculation that he is about to join VELVET REVOLVER as their new frontman.
Speaking exclusively to Classic Rock, Conalane interestingly did not issue an outright denial.
He commented: “I’m guessing you were pretty surprised when your ‘source’ informed you that I was to be the new Velvet Revolver singer. So was I! This rumour was certainly NOT started by me nor anyone within the Million $ Reload camp.
“I don’t regard your original story as nonsense. Since Duff [McKagan] remarked to an Irish newspaper that he had been keeping an eye on an Irish singer, but that he wasn’t too keen on disturbing the band he was in, the story has been going around – Ireland’s a small island, so not too many rock singers!
“Most of the stuff that has been written about us is true. Kerri Kelly [SLASH’S SNAKEPIT] is a buddy, we’ve played with Steven Adler and Gilby Clarke, and most of the other stuff that’s been said.
“But it is sad to hear that some people regard this story as a cynical publicity stunt by Million $ Reload. After all it is quite unsettling for the rest of the band to hear your singer could be leaving, with tours in Europe and the US planned for 2009.
“Although having said that, I have received hundreds of emails from all over the world this week, the US, Brazil, Australia etc, from VR fans giving me support. Some of the comments that fans have been posting on various forums are amazing . It’s all quite flattering, really.

Guitar World magazine has just published its picks for the “100 Worst Guitar Solos” on its web site, GuitarWorld.com.
The list includes tracks by Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, C.C. DeVille, Eric Clapton, George Harrison and more.
Below is an excerpt of that post:
“After two decades of kissing ass, Guitar World tips over a few sacred cows in a definitive guide to guitar parts that blow.
“Guitarists, no matter how good they are, are bound to have the occasional bad night or hit the odd bum note. Legends like Hendrix,Page, Hammett and Harrison have had their share of uninspired moments and times where ambition exceeded their technique. It’s really no big deal.
“Unless you’re caught on tape, that is.
“In a rare moment of pure spite and malice, Guitar World asked several contributors to identify those instances when our greatest guitar heroes took their biggest pratfalls. And, boy, rarely have we seen our writers take to an assignment with greater gusto. It seems that nothing gets a journalist¹s creative juices flowing like asking them to spill a big bucket of bile on a beloved icon. While our writers tended to save most of their venom for undeniably cruddy and inept solos, some had fun throwing darts at performances that were technically adept but which they deemed boring, self-indulgent or just plain absurd. Another favorite pastime was picking on anything remotely involving the talents of POISON‘s C.C. DeVille.
“Now, we enjoy the colorful Mr. DeVille, but unfortunately somebody¹s gotta be the whipping boy, and we guess it’s C.C.‘s turn to feel the lash. But he shouldn’t take it too hard. The flamboyant, hair-sprayed rocker can take solace in the fact that he’s in some rather good company. So pull out the knives, put on the lobster bib and dig in. No one, but no one, gets out of this alive.”
Top 10 “Worst Guitar Solos,” according to Guitar World:
01. POISON – “Guitar Solo” (from “Swallow This…Live!”, 1991)
Guitarist: C.C. DeVille
02. BLUE CHEER – “Summertime Blues” (from “Vincebus Eruptum”, 1968)
Guitarist: Leigh Stephens
03. CARLOS SANTANA – “The Game of Love” (from “Shaman”, 2002)
04. CREAM – Falstaff beer 1967 radio spot
Guitarist: Eric Clapton
05. THE BEATLES – “All You Need Is Love”
Magical Mystery Tour (1967)
Guitarist: George Harrison
06. BLACK FLAG – “Thirsty and Miserable” (from “Damaged”, 1981)
Guitarist: Greg Ginn
07. TED NUGENT – “Wango Tango” (from “Scream Dream”, 1980)
08. THE ROLLING STONES – “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg” (from “It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll”, 1974)
Guitarist: Keith Richards
09. MANOWAR – “Sting of the Bumblebee” (from “Kings of Metal”, 1988)
Bassist: Joey DeMaio
10. LENNY KRAVITZ – “American Woman” (from “5”, 1998)

There is a change to the bill for KISW‘s annual Holiday Hangover Ball, to be held this Friday, December 12, 2008 at Showbox SoDo in Seattle, Washington. Original headliners SALIVA who were scheduled to play, have been forced to cancel due to an unexpected health scare of lead singer Josey Scott.

Official statement from Saliva management:
We’re regretful to announce that Saliva will not be able to perform at KISW’s 2008 Holiday Hangover due to an unexpected health scare of lead singer Josey Scott. He was hospitalized Monday evening due to an irregular heartbeat. The band was scheduled to depart for the nationally syndicated radio show Rockline when Scott noticed a fluttering in his heart that didn’t seem right. The paramedics were called and he was taken to a local hospital where he spent the next four nights. His diagnosis was cardiac arrhythmia, which in some cases can be life threatening. His heartbeat was stabilized Wednesday afternoon and is under doctor’s orders for several days of no travel and rest. The band prides themselves to be a hard working act who has rarely ever missed a performance. They apologize to the fans in the Seattle area for this unfortunate situation. There will definitely be a make up show in 2009.
Here is some news people have been waiting a long time to hear.

Fusion III Distribution, which imports recordings and handles Canadian distribution from more than 600 labels in Europe, Asia, South America, and the U.S. including such as SPV, Napalm, Frontiers, InsideOut has been placed into bankruptcy protection and slashed its staffing levels as the company fights to survive.
Founded almost three decades ago by Jim West, Fusion distributes numerous labels, including West’s own Justin Time Records, Secret City Records (managed by West’s son Justin), as well as distributing French-language releases in the Quebec market for EMI Music Canada as part of a deal announced in July.
The company, which once employed more than 50, has seen that cut to a skeleton staff of 13. Six positions were cut last Friday, West says.
“There’s no question that [Fusion] is in big trouble,” West says. “It will be tough to reorganize.”
Fusion has 30 days to try to restructure the business, West says. He says the deal with EMI, which saw a Fusion employee move into EMI’s new Toronto offices, is also likely finished.
“We’re operating on a very limited way,” he says. “We’ve stopped selling product. I don’t want to hurt anyone through this process.”
West says that he, along with Justin Time Records, are the biggest creditors to Fusion, and are owed around $500,000 Canadian ($394,000).
“I think we’re in a transition mode in the industry in Canada,” he says. “The majors saw it first, but the indies are feeling it now. We are getting hit by all the problems.”
West pointed to declining catalog sales as one of the most significant factors for Fusion’s potential demise.
Question? Is it possible to be legends and still nobody knows who you are? In this instance I am going to say yes because that is exactly what D-A-D are, though I still prefer to call them by their original name Disneyland After Dark just to piss off the mouse company. This Danish band has been recording and releasing records for over 22 years and are considered superstars and legends in Europe and Asia. But with the exception of two albums “No Fuel Left for the Pilgrims” and “Riskin It All” that were released by Warner Bros. D-A-D has been pretty much ignored here in the states which is an outright shame. Unfortunately with their 10th studio release “Monster Philosophy” I don’t see that changing. As great as “Monster Philosophy” is, it doesn’t fit into any of the catagories Americans like to put bands in. D-A-D does have two things most bands wish they could have, an instantly recognizable singer in Jesper Binzer and an instantly recognizable and original sound. In case you haven’t heard D-A-D before the best way to describe the sound is AC/DC meets cowpunk.
“Monster Philosophy” kicks off with “Revolution” after a short intro it blasts off into a foot stompin’, head banging feast with a very cool solo from guitarist Jacob “Cobber” Binzer, all the while letting the listener sing right along with the band.
“Nightmares in the Daytime” is the second track and though it starts off as a mid tempo song it kicks in at the chorus with another great solo from Cobber and excellent performance from drummer Laust Sonne.
“Too Deep For Me” is another mid tempo song but unlike the previously mentioned “Nightmares” it stays mid tempo with a jazzy guitar sound and really good bass from co-founder Stig Pedersen.
“Beautiful Together” gets the band back to the foot stomping rock-n-roll. I think it would hard to find a band that sounds tighter than D-A-D does on this track. It seems like everything fell in place when it was recorded, great vocals and playing throughout.
The title track “Monster Philosophy” is up next and it wouldn’t surprise me to hear this song remixed and playing in dance clubs around the world. Definitely a different sound for the guys.
“Milk & Honey” follows and it more of the classic D-A-D sound reminding me of past songs like “Hate To Say I Told You So” & “Down A Dusty 3rd World Road”
The rest of “Monster Philosophy” is filled with great songs “You Won’t Change”, “You Had A Head”, and “Money Always Takes The Place of Life” really stand out no just on the latter part of the album but the album as a whole.
In all honesty you simply can not go wrong with “Monster Philosophy” if you are already a fan listening to this album is like seeing a old friend you haven’t seen in years and if you are checking out D-A-D for the first time it is a great introduction to the band before you go back to check out the rest of their catalog.
22 years and 10 studio albums and D-A-D have never disappointed me, I just hope that someday the U.S. gives this band the respect that they deserve.

Musink producers have announced that the 2009 tattoo and music tour has been canceled due to the current economic climate. The U.S. tour was scheduled to launch January 30, 2009 and feature SOCIAL DISTORTION and MOTÖRHEAD, along with renowned tattoo artists from around the world, including Musink co-producer Kat Von D. “I’m sad that this year’s festival will not go on as planned, but I’d rather the fans not be disappointed, as there were key elements that did not come together as originally designed,” says Kat Von D.
Musink debuted in Orange County, CA in February 2008, with over 15,000 people in attendance for the three-day lifestyle event. Headliners THE USED, TIGER ARMY and METAL SKOOL were joined by 300 of the best tattoo artists from around the world.
Last week HRH had the chance to talk to Saliva guitarist Jonathan Montoya before the band hit the stage at Sammy T’s in Huntsville, AL. I’d never talked to Jonathan before so I was a little hesitant about how everything would turn out. But it went great Jonathan was extremely easy to talk too with a funny sense of humor. Be sure and check out Cinco Diablo when it hits stores Dec 16th.
HRH: You guys are releasing Cinco Diablo on Dec 16th unfortunately the only song I have heard so far is “Family Reunion”. Can you tell me about some of the other songs on the album?
Jonathan Montoya: Yeah, they are a little darker, a little heavier. You know it is the classic Saliva sound, like “Family Reunion” is a classic Saliva staple sound. The rest of it we took a step towards the dark side, though not lyrically. Lyrically the songs are a lot more positive but the music is a little more darker, a little more Alice in Chains you know but it still Saliva. We’ve found our sound and we took the best of all our records and put them together.
HRH: What songs besides “Family Reunion” would you like to see released as singles?
HRH: Everyone is under the impression the title “Cinco Diablo” is because this is Saliva’s fifth album. But it is actually Saliva’s sixth album is there another story behind the title?
Jonathan Montoya: Well fifth major label release and and there are five members in the band so it could be both.
HRH: Bob Marlette has produced three Saliva albums did the band work with him this time around?
Jonathan Montoya: Yeah we did.
HRH: Is the recording process easier when you have worked with a producer in the past?
Jonathan Montoya: Oh yeah absolutely. I had worked with Bob before in a band called Full Devil Jacket
HRH: You joined the band before “Blood Stained Love Story” was recorded. Was it easier for you going into the studio with the band this time since you recorded and toured for the last album?
Jonathan Montoya: Yeah but I was in the band before, I filled in for Chris Dabaldo and they brought me in no questions asked. I had helped them get a record deal so when my band broke up they called me and we didn’t even have a tryout. Our first show was in front of 33,000 people. It was pretty crazy.
HRH: Were you able to have more in-put in the songwriting and the recording process?
Jonathan Montoya: Yeah absolutely, most of the last album was done when I got in the band. So this time I had a big part.
HRH: In the past Nikki Sixx has written a song for Saliva, does Cinco Diablo have any guest song writers?
Jonathan Montoya: Well John 5 from Rob Zombie & Marilyn Manson wrote 3 songs with us but only one made the record. I just wrote 2 songs with DJ and Nikki for Sixx:AM.
HRH: I saw an interview with you on Dean Guitars website and you mentioned a song called “Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing” whatever happened with it?
Jonathan Montoya: It didn’t make it, man we had so many songs that some didn’t even get to be heard. But that was one that Josey and me really wanted to push but it’ll end up somewhere, sometime. We’re definitely going to record it cause me and Josey were talking about it yesterday and how we want to make sure that happens.
HRH: You’re previous band Full Devil Jacket was from Jackson, TN and the guys in Saliva are from the Memphis area. Did you know the guys in the band before you joined?
Jonathan Montoya: Yeah we did a bunch of showcases with them and actually Full Devil got signed first and I literally dug their c.d. out of the garbage at Capitol Records and gave it to our A&R guy at Island and said “Hey you might wanna check these guys out.” Next thing I know we were doing a show in L.A. and Josey was in the crowd and he told me they got a deal with Island.
HRH: I’ve heard where bands put new members through different initiations after they join. Did the guys do that to you?
Jonathan Montoya: (Laughing) No I think they got initiated not me.
HRH: The Memphis area has a pretty storied past in music history, what is the music scene there like now?
Jonathan Montoya: (Laughing) To be honest Shitty pretty much for all intents and purposes it is pretty terrible.
HRH: I read where you have another band called Supernova Syndicate and an album was recorded but never released what is the status of that project?
Jonathan Montoya: Well maybe someday, hopefully. I wrote or cowrote all the songs and sing, it’s not that much different from what I am doing now. It maybe a little more like Guns N’ Roses mixed with Saliva a little more raw. Still the same big arena rock chrous like Motley Crue. I sound like Marilyn Manson meets Axl Rose when I sing. It’s on myspace if anyone wants to check it out ( http://www.myspace.com/supnernovasin).
HRH: The first leg of Saliva’s tour just wrapped up and it featured Drowning Pool, Tantric, and Jet Black Stare. What was that leg like?
Jonathan Montoya: It went alright you know the first of it was a little tough but you could see as the songs got played more on the radio there were more and more people every night. Finally the last week of the tour we sold out so it’s like finally we’re getting some results.
HRH: The band announced dates for the second leg is the band line-up going to be the same or are there some changes?
Jonathan Montoya: Well right now we aren’t out with anyone, we are just headlining and playing with local openers and stuff.
HRH: Now days a lot of tours are going out with 3 or 4 bands on the bill. Do you think that trend is here to stay?
Jonathan Montoya: Yeah you have to with the economy, you have to pack the bill with known names.
HRH: In the interview on Dean Guitars website I was talking about earlier you said Pantera was a huge influence on you have you had a chance to read Dimebag’s biography that was recently released?
Jonathan Montoya: I’ve got it in the drawer right below me right now.
HRH: What are some of the bands out today that you listen too or would like to take out on the road with Saliva?
Jonathan Montoya: Jet Black Stare, I really like them. I can’t think of anymore that stick out in my head, that is why I don’t listen to radio anymore they don’t give new bands a chance, that is why I like Sirius so much you do get to hear something different.
HRH: What are some of the bands you would like to take out with Saliva?
Jonathan Montoya: Uh I don’t know…I know I would love to go out with AC/DC!
HRH: Saliva’s music has been used in everything from video games to wrestling soundtracks and theme songs and Sony promoted the heck out of the Playstation 3 with “Ladies and Gentleman”. Do you have some unique promotions planned for Cinco Diablo?
Jonathan Montoya: Oh I’m sure we do but we don’t have anything to do with that. Our management takes care of all of that.
HRH: Is there anything you would like to say to the fans before we let you go?
Jonathan Montoya: Yeah buy the record don’t download it!! Buy the record and help a starving musician out!!

According to Hits Daily Double, the companion web site of music industry tip sheet HITS, GUNS N’ ROSES‘ long-awaited new album, “Chinese Democracy”, will drop out of the Billboard Top 10 next week with second-week U.S. sales that are expected to fall below the 80,000 mark.
“Chinese Democracy” sold 261,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release (including a reported 25,000 downloads at iTunes on November 23 not counted towards the opening week) to debut at position No. 3 on The Billboard 200 chart — right behind TAYLOR SWIFT‘s“Fearless” at No. 2 (with 267,400 sold) and KANYE WEST‘s “808s & Heartbreak”, which opens at No. 1 with sales of 450,000 and change.
According to Billboard.biz, “Chinese Democracy” topped the European Top 100 Albums chart this past week after making a series of notable debuts in European markets. That includes only one No. 1 debut, in Switzerland, but the album secures a second week at the helm in Finland and debuts at No.2 in the United Kingdom (on 119,000 sales) and Germany, No. 3 in Italy, Austria and Ireland, No. 4 in Holland, Sweden and Hungary and No. 9 in Portugal. The comeback release also climbs 5-2 in Norway and 26-10 in France.
Only singer Axl Rose remains in the current GUNS roster, having taken some 15 years to complete “Chinese Democracy” with a revolving cast of musicians.
As previously reported, “Chinese Democracy” looks set to drop out of the UK Top 5 this Sunday (December 6) based on the midweek figures released by Music Week. The CD debuted at No. 2 in the UK after failing to outsell “Day & Age”, the latest album from Las Vegas rock group THE KILLERS.
Like everybody else I am waiting the release of the new Danger Danger album, which will hopefully see the light of day in 2009. But if you think Ted Poley is just sitting around doing nothing you would be sadly mistaken. Not only is he preparing for the release of Poley/Rivera’s Only Human in the middle of November, he also found the time to record the debut album “For Your Personal Amusement” with his band mates in Pleasure Dome. Poley teams up with David Tsien (guitars), Charlie Calv (keyboards), Ed Avila (bass) and John Hummel (drums) in what amounts to a melodic rock supergroup. Some of the bands the members have been involved with in the past include, Shotgun Symphony, Arcara, Shoot the Doctor, Skin Tag and Melodica.
After a short musical intro everything kicks off with “Trapped” which is a heavy melodic song filled with some great bass lines from Avila and keyboards from Calv. For someone known more for party rock Poley does a great job of handling the vocals on this song and Tsien completes the song perfectly with his guitar work.
“One & Only” could easily pass for a Danger Danger song or a song off Poley’s solo albums. It is a catchy sing a long song with great vocals and even more great guitar work from Tsien. I hope some radio station gives this song a chance because it deserves it and has hit written all over it.
“the Aura That Surrounds You” is another heavy melodic song with some haunting keyboards and great bass from Calv and Avila. With every song Tsien’s playing impresses me more and more. His playing along with Poley’s vocals shine throughout the album.
“Praying For A Miracle” is an acoustic based mid tempo rocker, which I believe was first recorded for Liberty N’ Justice’s “Independence Day” album that Poley also sang a track on.
“Always Tomorrow” follows the same formula as “Trapped” and “Aura That Surrounds You”. “Love Is A Game” is a duet between Poley and unfortunately an unknown female singer. She also returns to join the band again on “I Won’t Cry”.
“Seems Like A Dream” is an unusual song as it is mostly an instrumental but it does have about a minute worth of vocals in the middle of the song but there is some great playing nonetheless.
“Return To Zero” is by far the heaviest song on the album, while it is a decent song I could live without it and it wouldn’t leave a hole in the album.
Comic book fans should all love (Who Will) Save the World as this rocker talks about how the world needs a new super hero as all the well known heroes from D.C. and Marvel alike are all busy with their own problems. This song gets my vote for best song on the album.
“For Your Personal Amusement” is a good album and a great introduction to the band. Hopefully we will get a chance to hear their work again. I believe the guys just started scratching the surface of what they are capable of doing together.

Original KISS guitarist’s official web site, AceFrehley.com, will launch on December 15, 2008 at noon. You can currently visit the site — which will contain music, videos and news, as well as art and graphics from Acehimself — to sign up for a mailing list which will give you access to “exclusive information from Ace Frehley.”
In an early 2008 interview with Billboard, Frehley stated about his forthcoming solo album, “Basically, I’m trying to get back into the mindset I was in when I did my first solo record [1978’s ‘Ace Frehley’]. That record seemed to have all the elements everybody liked — a real cool instrumental, a hit single, some real heavy rockers, a nice variety of different genres of music.”
Among his favorite new tracks are “A Little Below the Angels”, hard-rocking “Pain in the Neck” and an instrumental called “Fractured Quantum”, which is a follow-up to his previous instrumentals “Fractured Mirror” and “Fractured Too”. Another favorite is “groove song” titled“Genghis Khan”, which he likens in tone to LED ZEPPELIN‘s “Kashmir”.
Frehley told MyrtleBeachOnline.com that he’s shooting for 12 tracks on his next album, his first in 18 years. Studio work has spanned several months, and some of the songs go back 12 years.
Frehley recently spent time on the road fronting a band that featured second guitarist Derek Hawkins, drummer Scot Coogan (ex-BRIDES OF DESTRUCTION) and bassist Anthony Esposito (ex-LYNCH MOB).

Film-maker Eddie Martin is working on a movie about AC/DC legend Bon Scott.
The yet-to-be titled movie is in its early stages. “We’ve been working heavily on it for a couple of months. It’s early days,” Martin tells Undercover News. “We are in the writing process. We’ve been meeting with Gaby, Mary, Irene and The Valentines crew, people like Vince Lovegrove, Bon’s early friends”. (Irene was Bon’s former wife).
Eddie says he is still looking for people from the era who knew Bon. “It is at research stage,” he says.
Casting is also being considered. Tom Budge (Three Dollars, Australian Rules, The Night We Called It A Day) is the front-runner for the part of Angus Young but Bon is still to be cast. “We have been considering casting and we are not going to contain this to Australia,” he says.
One of the things that has come out in his research is that despite the numerous books written about AC/DC, he feels no-one has actually nailed the real story yet. “Obviously we have gone through most of them, but talking to Bon’s friends they aren’t happy with the books and feel they have been misrepresented. We want to go much deeper with the movie,” he says.
The person Eddie is desperate to find went by the nickname Silver. “She is definitely the one person we want to find,” he says. “She was an Adelaide girl who lived with him in London after he broke up with Irene”.
It will be a number of years before we see the Bon Scott movie on the big screen. “We’d love to be shooting in 12-18 months,” Eddie says.
Ronald Belford ‘Bon’ Scott was born on July 9, 1946 and died on February 19, 1980.
Bon was born in Scotland and the family migrated to Australia in 1952.
Bon formed his first band The Spektors in 1964. Next came The Valentines, then Fraternity, and in 1974, he joined AC/DC, replacing original singer Dave Evans.
Bon died before ever really reaping the rewards that AC/DC would later bring. At the time of his death, the current album at the time, ‘Highway To Hell’ was just reaching Top 20 status in the USA.
Bon Scott was 33 when he departed the planet. He died after a night of drinking in a car outside 67 Overhill Road in East Dulwich in South London
Swedish rockers Fatal Smile, who were scheduled to open for Motley Crue’s Vince Neil, have confirmed that the European tour has been cancelled through their website (www.fatalsmile.com).
We’re really sorry to inform you that the rumours are true: Vince Neil of Motley Crue cancelled the whole European tour just one day before the tour should kick off… And since we’re in this rock’n roll business we’re not really surprised…Shit happens!!!
But this can’t stop FATAL SMILE from kicking ass in Europe, so please check the “Tour” dates at www.fatalsmile.com for latest update regarding this. More dates to come…
Many thank’s for all your mails and support and we really hope to see ya all out there!!!
Love & Rock’n Roll!!!
// Y, Blade, Alx & Zteff
As we have learned this morning, the European tour of VINCE NEIL got canceled!
The offical statement for the tour cancellation refers to as the rejection of the Spanish promoter for the three scheduled shows in Barcelona, Bilbao and Madrid. For organizational reasons this has affected the whole European tour. The management of VINCE NEIL thereupon decided to cancel the tour.
This decision at short notice has hit us like a hammer stroke! All involved parties have tried their best to still let the tour happen, even the tour promoter didn’t give up until the very last minute! Thanks for that!
Since FATAL SMILE were already on their way to Spain for starting the tour at this time, there was nothing they could do, but to take notice of this sad news.
We are very sorry for all the FATAL SMILE-fans out there. At the moment, we are trying to reschedule or extend the confirmed solo-shows of FATAL SMILE in Germany, Belgium, Switzerland and Holland. Thanks to the great feedback of the local promoters we will be able to add some shows and to prepone others!!! Please take the updates from our websites www.b-musik-management.de and www.fatalsmile.com
To all winners of the meet & greets: Wir are very sorry for the inconviniences and we are working on making the meet & greets to happen on the next European tour of FATAL SMILE, which will take place early 2009. FATAL SMILE won’t disappoint any of their fans!

Eleven Seven Music is among the best-performing rock labels, taking hold on a good portion of the rock charts since its inception in January 2006. With the recent #1 independent release from MÖTLEY CRÜE (the label scored the #2 position last year with SIXX: A.M.‘s “The Heroin Diaries Soundtrack” and BUCKCHERRY‘s platinum and Grammy-nominated“15”), Eleven Seven continues to build on its model of research-based marketing strategies targeted directly to the fans and building out from that base. At rock radio, SIXX: A.M.‘s “Life Is Beautiful” was the most played song of the year. Helmed by President Nikki Sixx, the label’s roster includes MÖTLEY CRÜE, BUCKCHERRY, SIXX: A.M., TRAPT, DROWNING POOL, MARION RAVEN, THE LAST VEGAS, CHARM CITY DEVILS and THE EXIES.
Eleven Seven Music was founded by industry veteran and pioneer Allen Kovac, a revolutionary mind who has been at the center of some of the most creative and successful campaigns in the music business.
“It’s so gratifying to see that iTunes‘ critics agree that Eleven Seven Music rocks as we continue our commitment to creating great rock music,” notes label President Nikki Sixx.
Eleven Seven Music has proven to be the leader in creating lucrative partnership deals and identifying new ways to distribute content. As one of the first companies to offer a single for download simultaneously on the popular video game, Rock Band as well as through traditional retailers, earlier this year Eleven Seven Music released “Saints of Los Angeles”,MÖTLEY CRÜE‘s first single from their new album of the same name. The track sold more than five times the number of downloads through Rock Band as it did on iTunes in its first week. Through persistence and innovation, Eleven Seven Music has become the #5 mainstream rock label and the #2 overall independent rock label.
