EW.com has posted Stephen King’s Top 10 albums of 2008. The author of such horror classics as “Cujo”, “Carrie”, and “the Shining” definitely saved the best for last in his Top 10. While the majority of his list is filled with musicians such as Lindsay Buckingham, Coldplay, and Randy Newman. King picked AC/DC’s “Black Ice” as his #2 pick and Buckcherry’s 4th album “Black Butterfly” tied for the #1 slot with the Pretenders “Break Up the Concrete”. Concerning “Black Butterfly” King wrote “Black Butterfly was the best hard-rock album I heard this year (with one sweet and unforgettable song called ”All of Me”)”. In case you don’t know Syrym is a Bay Area based band made up with former Babylon A.D. members Ron Freschi on guitars and Jamey Pacheco on drums, along with vocalist Jeffrey Winslow and bassist Rich Talley. Back in the day I was split in my opinion on Babylon A.D. I loved their debut album but “Nothing Sacred” had a few good songs but nothing special. I really wasn’t sure what to expect with this album. Much to my surprise Syrym has a pretty damn good album on their hands. Let me say first that Freschi’s guitar playing on this disc all the way through is outstanding.
“Foul Mouth Blues” gets us started with a heavy throbbing groove from the rhythm section of Pacheco and Talley with Winslow singing in a slow almost growl. Freschi’s solo here is the first of many impressive solos on this album, a good way to open the album up.
The guys pick up the pace a little bit more on “Warpath”, once the song kicks in it has a great hard driving groove. I think you’ll find it very hard to resist playing a little air guitar or drums on this song.
“Torn in Two” finds us getting a little more heavier but still maintaining the ability to sing along with the band. Freschi puts on another great display of his guitar skills.
While the first three songs remind me a lot of early Lynch Mob songs “Ugly on the Inside” drifts more in Babylon A.D. territory and it is easily one of the best songs on the album. It has great sing a long chorus and the whole band sounds in sync with one another. I hope this song finds it way to radio
“30 & Dirty” has a sleazy groove to it that hearkens back once again to Babylon A.D. and you can’t help but want to tap your foot along to it.
“Foul Mouth Blues” was a good song to open the album but “While America Sleeps” would’ve been a great song to open this album up. If Freschi never got to flex his guitar playing muscle on any Babylon A.D. albums he definitely does with Syrym, he definitely earned my respect for his playing here.
“What I’m Trying To Say” is a ballad that not only closes the album, it completely changes the direction of this album. It is a pretty emotional song about a parent trying to explain to their child that the parents divorce is not the child’s fault. Acoustic guitars and piano fill this song and it has a very Journey like feel to it. Another very good song.
As far as the rest of the album is concerned “Brokedown”, “the Sky is Falling”, “Alive in the Real World”, and “Bring It On (Go Down Fighting)” are all good songs with “Bring It On” being my favorite.
Any fans of Lynch Mob, Babylon A.D., or Lillian Axe will find plenty of reasons to love Syrym, but fans of heavy and melodic late 80s/early 90s rock will also find plenty of reasons to pick Syrym up. Definitely worth the price of admission.

RECORD label bosses are fuming after GUNS N’ ROSES frontman AXL ROSE went missing for two months – costing the band a No1 album.
After spending 15 years and £15million recording their big comeback Chinese Democracy, only top spot was good enough.
But they lost out to THE KILLERS’ Day & Age in Sunday’s UK album chart rundown — with BRANDON FLOWERS’ group notching up sales of 200,000 during the week — 80,000 more than Guns N’ Roses.
Bosses at label Geffen are blaming unpredictable Axl for the disappointing sales after he went AWOL for two months before the release date.
Despite all the effort put into one of the most extravagant rock albums of all time, staff could not contact Axl to get him to promote his rock epic.
In fact, they failed to make contact with him from the day he delivered the final cut.
Chinese Democracy’s first week US sales are between 300,000 and 500,000. Yet their 1987 debut album Appetite For Destruction went on to sell a staggering 28million, so they have a long way to go with their new effort.
An insider said: “Everyone knows Axl is a bit of a maverick genius and won’t do anything he doesn’t want to do.
“The label is really glad to have him back. But it is frustrating because the album would have had a much better chance of going to No1 if he had only been prepared to show his face.
“People have been trying to contact him for two months and he’s been completely AWOL.
“You would have thought after spending 15 years on an album you might do a few weeks promotion.”
Better news for the label’s bean counters is the elusive Axl is rumoured to be trying to get the band’s first line-up back together.
Guitarist IZZY STRADLIN has said he is keen to see the original members back together and axe legend SLASH’s involvement in his current band VELVET REVOLVER looks shaky after they were dropped by their label.
If Axl has been spending the last two months of his time reuniting the original members for a world tour, I think Geffen might just forgive him.
As long as they don’t have to wait another 15 years.
Late ’80s/early ’90s hard rock band CIRCUS OF POWER will have its classic 1988 self-titled debut album reissued through Rock Candy Records. The LP, which was originally issued through RCA Records, will be remastered and will include a 14-page booklet as well as a 4,000-word essay about the band.
German hard rockers KINGDOM COME have completed work on their new album. According to an online posting by KINGDOM COME‘s webmaster Marko Wolf (brother of KINGDOM COME mainman Lenny Wolf), “It looks like that all label and distribution issues are sorted out soon, so that the release time can be set to February 2009. Didn’t think I would live long enough to see it happening, but Lenny actually sung a duet with a woman! Even I don’t know who that is. All I know is that he’s still single.”
KINGDOM COME‘s latest studio album, “Ain’t Crying for the Moon”, was released in Europe on October 20, 2006 via Frontiers Records.
The full 60 minute film has only been shown once on Japanese television in 1978 and has never been released on DVD.
But just in case you don’t get the chance to check it out at the cinema, there is still good news! The album will be reissued on DVD with three CDs as well as a 180gsm vinyl pressing.
The four disc set includes, aside from the original full length concert film, a CD that replicates the audio of the DVD, produced by Jack Douglas and Jay Messina and the original double disc Live LP on the remaining two discs that have been newly remastered.

Fender`s Custom Shop has come out with a master built exact replica of Yngwie Malmsteen’s infamous `Play Loud` guitar.
The original guitar was the one he brought with him when on his first trip to America and has been a stalwart of his live and recorded performances ever since.
Master builder John Cruz has put meticulous detail into replicating each scratch that Malmsteen has given it since he bought it in Sweden in 1979.
For the guitar-nerds amongst you, the guitar features “DiMarzio® HS-3 pickups in the bridge and neck positions and a standard Fender ’70s-era middle pickup, with a standard fender bridge, a large headstock and a battered Olympic White finish expertly treated to mirror each of the original guitar’s many battle scars—the nicks, dings, scratches, burns and worn finish spots from decades of heavy use and abuse in Malmsteen’s masterful hands.”
Check it out at your local Fender dealer, but beware, being a master built strat, expect to be coughing up the big bucks… and if you can afford it, remember what Malmsteen said: “The louder it is, the better it’s going to sound.”
The guitar will be available from Friday, November 28.
Kiss bassist and entrepreneur Gene Simmons is relaunching his label Simmons Records with Universal Music Canada and auto-parts baroness Belinda Stronach with the goal to sign, develop and merchandise three Canadian acts per year.
“This is going to be about career songs that define who and what a band is,” says Simmons, who was in Toronto to kick start the label and investigate potential acts.
Simmons has been almost omnipresent in recent years, with the reality show “Gene Simmons Family Jewels” playing in more than 80 countries, and a myriad of other ventures, from marketing to comic books. Simmons Records last acted as an imprint of Sanctuary Records, releasing a Simmons’ solo album and a Canadian artist before folding.
He says his intent is to sign three Canadian acts a year and develop their songwriting, image and live skills before making any release. Universal will put the records out “when they are ready,” says Randy Lennox, president of Universal Music Canada.
Though they have not been signed, Simmons says he is particularly interested in Toronto hip-hop/funk act Down With Webster.
“I would blow Down With Webster in front of their moms,” Simmons says. No deal with the band has been inked, he adds.
Stronach’s involvement is unusual given her family’s focus on auto parts and horse racing. Lennox says Stronach is a music fan and is investing her own money in the venture. Simmons previously had a relationship with the Stronach family through his marketing company, Simmons Abramson Marketing, which ran a campaign for an energy drink created by Frank Stronach.
Simmons is not making a financial commitment to the label, instead investing what he characterized as “sweat equity.”
“I’m not doing this because of the money,” he says. “I’m like Linda Blair in ‘The Exorcist’ – I’m possessed.”
Simmons’ connection with Stronach, the daughter of auto parts magnate Frank Stronach who recently had a successful foray into Canadian federal politics with both the Conservative and Liberal parties, comes through the promotion of Frank’s Energy Drink, a beverage Simmons’ marketing company promoted.
Simmons says the goal of the imprint is to refine the songs in order to keep recording costs down. Once the record is ready, he intends to cross-promote it through a variety of ventures, including a reality television program with an as-yet unnamed Canadian network.
“This is about having all the platforms covered,” he says. “Having the record come out with a reality show at the same time the media is writing about the album. It will engulf you.”

They said the song, Something In Your Mouth, contains lyrics that “prudish” Brits would find far to rude, and as a result, their record label Roadrunner, have pulled it from the airwaves in the UK.
The three-minute song, which appears on their new album, Dark Horse, includes the chorus: “You’re ripping up the dance floor honey, you shake your ass around for everyone.
“I love the way you dance with anybody and tease them all by sucking on your thumb. You’re so much cooler when you never pull it out, cuz you look so much cuter with something in your mouth!”
But outraged presenters on rock station Kerrang! Radio yesterday launched a campaign to get the track, which is allowed to be played on US radio stations, on Britain’s airwaves.
Evening presenters Christian Stevenson and Loz reckon Brits are should demand the right to listen to smut as they are made of sterner stuff.
Loz said “The message that Kerrang! Radio is sending to Nickelback is bring it on! We think it’s a great track and it doesn’t offend me.”
Christian, who hails from America, added “Yes the lyrics are suggestive, but the great thing about suggestive is that stuff is only as dirty as the mind of the listener.
“This track can only offend someone who is dirty minded!”
Listeners agreed and called in to their show in their droves to back the campaign.
One fan said: “A little too racy for British radio? Sorry, but the lyrics in this song probably aren’t even as ‘racy’ as songs by bands such as the Sugababes or Girls Aloud who sing about not only sex, but promote promiscuity to a much younger audience.”
rushonrock: Will you ever be really big outside mainland Europe?
TS: It’s getting better for us in the UK. Slowly but surely we’re starting to make an impression on British audiences. If you want to be big in the USA you have to go there and stay there. I wouldn’t want to live in the USA in a million years! It’s a different planet and I don’t want to go there. That means we’re never going to be a big, big act over there but that’s OK. I just don’t want to make the sacrifices we’d have to make to break that market in a big way.
rushonrock: With new album Tinnitus Sanctus up your sleeves you must have a chance?
TS: Every musician says it but TS is the best album we’ve made for sure. It’s a combination of what we’ve done in the past and new elements without sounding too ridiculous. In a heavy metal band you have to be ridiculous to a certain extent but it’s important not to cross the line.
rushonrock: Are you worried about coming over all Spinal Tap in your old age?
TS: There are lot of Spinal Tap moments in every band’s history and we’re no different. But we’ve made a classic melodic metal album which has managed not to sound too ridiculous. That’s an achievement when you play our style of rock. Take Dragonforce. They’re at the extreme end of what we do but they’re ridiculous on purpose. We’re more mid-paced than those guys – they just like to push everything to the limit. They say look at the clothes that I’m wearing and listen to the stupid things that I’m saying and they love it.

In a recent interview with the Winnipeg Sun Kiss fire-breather Gene Simmons talked about a variety of subjects including a new Kiss album. Here is what the article has to say:
As for his day job with KISS, Simmons confirms the veteran glam-rockers are writing songs for a new album that he expects they will record next year and release next summer. KISS singer-guitarist Paul Stanley will produce the disc. The band will follow the album’s release with a limited tour.
“We’ll do a handful of shows just to keep in the game (next) summer, maybe 10 (dates), some Canadian shows. I know Halifax is one, but before you get out there and start the baseball season, they hold exhibition games, that’s what we’re doing. ‘Cause once we go out, it’s going to be for a year and a half.”
As for rumblings of a co-headlining tour with Queen, Simmons said, “Oh, I’ve heard that, but we don’t know until it’s real. I would be happy to step up on that stage. I’d (also) love to step up on a stage with the Stones.”
This past Tuesday HRH had the privilege to take part in a teleconference with the one and only Rob Zombie. Unlike the one on one interviews we have brought to our readers before, this time we were sitting with such heavyweights as MTV News, Billboard Magazine, AOL, Blabbermouth, and others. For over an hour Rob spent time talking about the various projects he has been working on.
Of course the subject of the upcoming massive 79 song White Zombie box set “Let Sleeping Corpses Lie” was a popular topic. In regards to the box set Rob stated “You know I’ve been trying to put this together for a long time. But I would let everything take precedence over it. A movie or a new record, because I am not big on revisiting the past, I like to move forward all the time. I decided from the get go I would put every single thing that we recorded into the box set. Because for so many years people have been asking, “How do I get the old records?” Because the first chunk of our career never came out on CD. They were just limited edition vinyls that basically nobody has. The box set has every song of every vinyl record, every CD, every soundtrack, every finished recording that we thought was a finished mix. It’s nice to have everything out there for whoever wants it.”
As far as the title of the box set is concerned “It’s pretty self explanatory because I didn’t want everybody to think the box set was the beginning of something new. I wanted everyone to realize it was the end of something. There is really nothing more to be done, there are some crappy demos and other stuff they could release but they’re probably not worth listening to. This is probably the last thing that will come from the band for sure.”
None of the former members of White Zombie were involved in putting the box set together at all and Rob mentioned he hadn’t talked to anyone in the band since their last show together.
When the conversation turned to his still untitled new studio album, Rob said “We are almost finished and will probably be completely finished with the record before Christmas. This is the first time since White Zombie broke up that I actually recorded with a band. It’s the same guys that I have had for a couple of years John 5, Tommy Clufetos, and Piggy D. So the record has got a much more solid vibe and it’s just going to be a much more intricate and interesting record, just due to the fact that there are four people in the room all the time working and contributing. Great things usually come out of situations that we have a great vibe and that’s what’s going on here.” Rob also shared a couple of the song titles with us, those being “Jesus Frankenstein” and a favorite of the band called “Fixed Bubble Gum“. He stated there is no timetable for the album’s release date and there are also no plans as of yet for a tour but being on the road after next summer isn’t out of the question.
In case you didn’t know Rob does have a new single out and available for the masses that song being “War Zone” (Listen to the new single here) which can be found on the Punisher War Zone soundtrack. When talking about the new single “When it comes to doing a song for a movie there’s usually not a lot of time to write something new. But this time I was already in the studio recording. So they gave me a copy of the script so i would know what it was about and I just got in there and cranked it out.” Rob also thinks “War Zone” served as a kick in the ass to getting the album recorded. “We’ve been recording but we really hadn’t finished any songs so that song was a good kick in the ass to actually have to finish a song and it became the domino effect of finishing all the songs for the record.”
Almost anytime you are talking to Rob Zombie at some point in the conversation the subject of movies is going to come up and it was no different this time. When asked what his primary focus was right now Rob stated “It’s 50/50. Which ever one I am doing at that time is the most important thing to me, that’s why I do not try to do them simultaneously. When I am touring that is 100% what I am about and when I am making a movie that is 100% what I am about. But they are both equally important. Rob also said he has been approached several times about producing a sequel to Halloween but nothing is in the works. As far as other movie projects are concerned his long awaited project “The Haunted World of El Superbeasto” is completely finished and he is now trying to figure out when is the best time for it to come out.
When asked about another movie project of his “Tyrannosaurus Rex“. Rob informed us “There is no plan, I haven’t really started it yet. The problem with “Tyrannosaurus Rex” is it was sort of announced way ahead of time unfortunately. So since it was out there I started talking about it a little bit. But that movie has not even started yet so there’s not too much to talk about.”
Like I said earlier the teleconference lasted over an hour but Rob was very gracious with his time and answering all the questions asked of him. From the sound of things Rob Zombie is going to be a very busy man over the next year if not longer.
The English band Thunder is back with their 9th studio album “Bang!”. Like a lot of English bands there is nothing flashy or outrageous about Thunder and like a lot of their European counter-parts they have largely been ignored here in the states but loved throughout Europe and Asia. They are not a band whose music is going to start a musical revolution or change the world, but the things you are always going to get from Danny Bowes, Luke Morley, and the boys are a solid performance with some great songs from start to finish.
“Bang!’ gets started with “On The Radio”, which is a classic Thunder song that can proudly stand up with songs like “Dirty Love”, “Flawed To Perfection”, and “I Love You More Than Rock-n-Roll” to name a few. Bowes sings the truth in fact that the band has survived in the music business for over 20 years despite the fact they have received almost no support from radio or video channels. Morley, one of the most underrated guitar players in music, lays down a great bluesy riff with a great solo and a touch of slide guitar. “On The Radio” is a song that will have to tapping your foot and singing along after one listen.
“Stormwater” has another great blues riff as it starts off and with the bass lines laid down by Chris Childs. It is not a sing along song like the album opener but with its great solo and jam feel to it it is definitely another can’t miss song.
“Carol Ann” starts out with a little acoustic and slide guitar courtesy of Ben Matthews and Luke Morley, but this mid tempo rocker has a gospel feel to it when you throw in a little piano and with the back up vocals and hand claps. With a solo perfect for all the air guitar players out there and a great chorus Thunder could have yet another classic on their hands.
“Candy Man” is not a cover of the Sammy Davis Jr. staple, but it is another great song that can easily stand and fit in with any number of songs in Thunder’s catalog. While I hate to beat a dead dog, for the life of me I can’t understand why Luke Morley does not get more respect as a guitarist, his playing on this song and album as a whole is excellent.
If there is one weak spot on “Bang!” it would be the ballads. Unfortunately when it comes to ballads by Thunder I always compare them to “Love Walked In” and “A Lover Not A Friend” which isn’t fair because those two songs are absolutely great songs. But there is one on “Bang!” that comes close to equaling those two, that being “Watching Over You” which seems to be a duet between Bowes and Morley and is another great performance.
“Miracle Man” covers a familiar topic, TV preachers trying to get people to save their souls by emptying out their pockets in the name of religion. While Bowes sounds angry when singing about the subject he still makes the song a great roll the windows down and sing along song.
Following in the foot steps of “Englishman on Holiday” comes “Turn Left at California”. It wouldn’t surprise me to hear this song covered by any number of country artists. It is almost a country song as it is with Thunder playing thanks to the banjo and harmonica used in the song. This is a great road trip song.
“Love Sucks”, “One Bullet”, and “Honey” finish out the album with “Honey” being the best of three as it is yet another song that can stand proudly with any of Thunder’s more recognizable songs.
Like I said earlier Thunder are not going to change the musical landscape with this album. But you are definitely going to get more “Bang!” for your buck with this album than a lot of the bands that are actually getting airplay these days.
You can hear samples of Bang! by clicking on the song titles below!

Motley Crue announced today that Eleven Seven Music/Motley Records will release vinyl configurations of their current hit album Saints of Los Angeles along with their first five classic studio albums, Too Fast For Love (1981); Shout at the Devil (1983); Theatre of Pain (1985); Girls, Girls, Girls (1987) and Dr. Feelgood (1989) on Tuesday, November 25. Each album is pressed on high quality 180 gram vinyl and cut from the original analog master tapes.
To mark this occasion, Motley Crue is releasing a limited edition leather box set, Journals Of The Damned, containing all six vinyl releases. Limited to a sales run of 500, each set is individually numbered and also contains a Shout At the Devil Era lithograph signed by all four members of the band. The sets are available exclusively for order at www.motley.com.
The release of these Motley Crue albums on vinyl comes as many music fans are embracing vinyl for its superior sound quality and new technology allowing the transfer to MP3. With increased availability at major music retailers and online, LPs are making a comeback.
“I remember opening up my first vinyl and seeing the incredible artwork it had. There’s nothing like it,” said Nikki Sixx. “You also get that true gritty sound on vinyl that really makes a rock record sound great which CD’s can never achieve. With the current resurgence of vinyl, it came at a perfect time for us to open up the next generation of rock fans to what they’ve been missing out on.”

Tom Zutaut, the man who signed GUNS N’ ROSES to Geffen Recordsback in the mis-’80s, was unceremoniously booted out of the “Chinese Democracy” listening party, held at the Roxy Theater in West Hollywood, California last Tuesday (November 18).
Tom tells Classic Rock magazine, “Yeah, sadly it is true that I was escorted out of the Roxy by a beefy security guy just prior to the last three songs of the playback. I did stand on the sidewalk and hear the last three anyway.
“I believe that love and hate are a complicated thing but ultimately the same thing. I love Axl and think ‘Chinese Democracy’ is a genius body of music. Although I had heard most of the album in an unfinished form six-seven years ago, and more recently through some of the leaks, I really wanted to hear it played back over a loud PA in its final form as imagined by its creator, W. Axl Rose.
“It is sad and disappointing to me that those around Axl would lie to him to fuel his hatred towards me with imaginary events used to drive a wedge between us. I love him deeply, will always love him and wish only the greatest success to one of the world’s last true creative musical sparks with a god-given voice. I am proud of my contributions to his career and am always there for him should he one day become enlightened to the truth of what surrounds him. It is also sad that he doesn’t mention the hard work I put in on my short involvement with ‘Chinese Democracy’with even a ‘Thank You’ considering lesser players are credited or thanked in the liner notes — even those who ridiculed him, belittled and made fun of him behind his back while I defended his genius ’til those around him poisoned him against me with distortions and lies.
“I wear his hatred as a badge of honor as it would be far worse for him not to care at all.”
The surviving members of MELDRUM — the band formed by ex-PHANTOM BLUE guitarist Michelle Meldrum, who died on May 21 as a result of a cystic growth that had restricted oxygen and blood flow to her brain, rendering her braindead — have completed work on the group’s third album (for which Michelle recorded her tracks prior to her passing), entitled“Lifer”.
“Lifer” stands as a proud tribute to Michelle, who wrote the material for the CD with drummer Gene Hoglan (DARK ANGEL, DEATH, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD), along with new members Laura Christine (bass) and Michele Madden (vocals).
“Lifer” is sonically different in direction than anything previously released by the band. With new life, and new talent, this album has carried the talents these four have to a higher level.
Commented Hoglan: “Let me say this: Never have I obsessed over the recording of any album I’ve been involved in as I have with MELDRUM‘s latest. The tragic circumstances that took Michelle from us also provided us with a laser-sharp focus to record the most amazing album we could.Michele Madden, Laura Christine, and hell, even Chicken, our engineer, put forth performances of a lifetime, with each member’s full love and respect going into every nuance of every song. Not only to honorMichelle, but to also lay down some bad-ass music, which was ultimately what she stood for… what MELDRUM stands for. I think the songs speak for themselves, and I, for one, have never been prouder to be a part of a family, let alone a project such as this. Metal with balls. Crank it up, indeed.”
“Lifer” is scheduled for release in early 2009. MELDRUM plans to unveil previews from their studio sessions on their Myspace in coming weeks, with news on the new release, music videos and tours forthcoming.
Guns N’ Roses fans in China will have to go underground to get their hands on a copy of the band’s first album in 17 years, “Chinese Democracy,” which will be released worldwide on Sunday.
The rock band’s Geffen Records label said on Friday, “It is unlikely we will be approved to release the album in Mainland China.”
China’s culture ministry has the final say on such matters, although rampant piracy makes the job difficult. Its decisions sometimes seem to lack consistency.
The title track might raise some eyebrows. Evidently addressing China’s communist leadership, singer Axl Rose says followers of the outlawed Falun Gong spiritual movement have “seen the end and you can’t hold on now.”
The artwork includes Beijing artist Shi Lifeng’s 2008 oil painting “Red Star,” which depicts the powerlessness of Chinese people in a state ruled by an iron fist. Photos of the Chinese military and the Hong Kong skyline also appear.
But the album is devoid of bad language or sexual situations. That was not the case with the band’s last release, which did slip through the net. The two “Use Your Illusion” albums from 1991 were rife with violent sexual imagery, vicious insults, cursing and homicidal thoughts. They were distributed by Beijing-based Dunhuang.
In America, the albums carried “parental advisory” labels warning consumers about explicit lyrics.
In 2003, the Chinese refused to allow the Rolling Stones to include four songs, including “Brown Sugar” and “Beast of Burden” on a hits album. But those two tracks did pass muster on a subsequent live album.
AMERICAN DOG’s new DVD, All Over The Road – Volume One, will ship December 10th. Those who pre-order by clicking here, will get a free autographed poster.
As previously reported, All Over The Road – Volume One was filmed during the band’s first ten years. It contains promotional videos, interviews, behind the scenes debauchery and live footage shot in France, Belgium, Canada and the United States. All Over The Road – Volume One features a plethora of unreleased footage both live and offstage. “We’ve got a little something for everyone here,” states frontman Michael Hannon, “We’ve got our promo videos, some of which have never been released, plus unseen live footage from past tours. We’ve set back the sobriety movement 20 years with this DVD.”
The soft-drink maker said in March that it would give a free soda to everyone in America if the album dropped in 2008. Chinese Democracy, infamously delayed since recording began in 1994, goes on sale Sunday.
“We never thought this day would come,” Tony Jacobs, Dr Pepper’s vice president of marketing, said in a statement. “But now that it’s here, all we can say is: The Dr Pepper’s on us.”
Beginning Sunday at 12:01 AM, coupons for a free 20-ounce soda will be available for 24 hours on Dr Pepper’s website. They’ll be honored until February 28th.
Dr Pepper is owned by Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Inc.
In the Spring of 2009, Rock ‘N’ Roll Books/APG Distribution will reissue An Education In Rebellion: The Biography Of NIKKI SIXX with an abridgement from 2003 through 2008, including coverage of MÖTLEY CRÜE’s wildly triumphant reunion tour, Sixx’s hugely successful NY Times best-seller the Heroin Diaries, the launch of his clothing line Royal Underground, the band’s first-ever Crüe fest, and recording of the band’s latest studio LP, Saints Of Los Angeles among other goings-on.
The book will feature new, exclusive interview material with Bob Rock, Tommy Lee, James Michael, Scott Humphrey, John Corabi, Dave Darling, and a host of others.
As part of the reissue, a bonus sampler will be included, featuring a mix of Crüe covers and original compositions by Millennium rock/metal bands – unsigned or otherwise – who grew up on and were musically influenced by Mötley Crüe/SIXX A.M.
Along with the aforementioned new acts, the sampler will feature current/former members of Mötley Crüe, BRIDES OF DESTRUCTION, RATT, CINDERELLA, QUIET RIOT, ROCK & ROLL JUNKIES featuring Neil Wharton, JETBOY, EXODUS, THE SCREAM, and others to be announced.

We were so excited to post SUPER VILLAIN that we neglected to give any more info on what’s in store. As most of you know we will be hitting the road in January. The plan is to bust out a few new tracks on stage as well as some stuff that hasn’t been performed in years. Can’t promise what the set will be but we are giving a go at X 51 and DANGER IS GO! Should be awesome!
The new album is not done but we are so happy with what is finished we have decided to start releasing it in parts. So, maybe three songs next month another three or four after tour and so on. We think this is a good plan. The reaction to SUPER VILLAIN has been fucking amazing! THANX!!
Many of you have been begging for the band to return to the days of Tonight the Stars Revolt! and I think in a way we are. The new stuff is unique and not a retread of that sound but it has a certain spirit that reminds me of those days. Your future has arrived… again!
More info soon on release dates and such! we hope that you buy some songs and not just steal and trade. we are not backed by major label giants and need the support!

I have to admit I cringe every time I hear a band is from the Seattle area, mainly because I still hold all of the “grunge” bands responsible for killing the hard rock scene back in the 90’s. Of course there are exceptions namely Queensryche, Metal Church, War Babies to name a few. Now you can add Underride to that list. Underride are about as far from “grunge” “post grunge” or any other genre with the word grunge in it as you can get. These guys are a straight up in your face, kick ass, take no prisoners, make no apologies, rock-n-roll band and they will be more than happy to show you on their new album “One of Us”, which is actually their third full length album and along with 2 e.p.’s I am really surprised I had never heard of them before. With a sound that falls somewhere between Beautiful Creatures and Velvet Revolver they definitely made a believer out of me.
“One of Us” gets started with “Side By Side” try to picture if you can Joe Leste singing for the Backyard Babies. Lead singer “Rev” channels Joe Leste to perfection with bassist “El Barto” laying down some fat bass lines, while guitarists “Rex Nomad” and “Dr. Pondscum” battle back-n-forth. What really surprised me was the fact that drummer “Double A” arms and feet did not fall off after not only this song but the whole album he is playing at 120 mph.
Oh before I forget, if you are looking for a ballad on this album you will be sadly disappointed, there is nothing on this album that even comes close to a ballad. As a matter of fact there is nothing that even comes close to being considered a mid tempo song. But every song is worth rolling down the windows and being played at maximum volume.
Just as “Rev” channeled his best Joe Leste on “Side By Side” he channels Scott Weiland just as well on “Candy Girl” it reminds me a lot of “Crackerman” off of STP’s debut “Core”. It has a great groove with a sing a long chorus. “On The Radio” is up next and it seems like “Rev” finds his own voice instead of mimicking other people and it is actually quite good. Like the two songs prior it has a great sing a long chorus with out giving up it’s heaviness.
“Throw It Away” is a slower rocker with a Theory of a Deadman feel to it, it isn’t a bad song but I could also live without it too.
“Upstart Coming Up’ is a balls out rocker and it has the one thing that was pretty much missing from the four songs before it…a solo a pretty damn good solo at that. “Kink Into My Heart” finds the band back in STP territory but once again it has a great groove and another smokin’ solo.
The rest of “One of Us” is filled with more straight up rock-n-roll with “Lights Off Baby”, “Riot Stick” and “No Means No” the best of the bunch.
Hopefully with the release of “One of Us” Underride will finally get the attention they deserve. They definitely got my attention and they delivered with some kick ass music in return.
