37 Avenged Sevenfold- S/T (Release Year – 2007)
Avenged Sevenfold is a band that I have not checked out until very recently. I read that a band that guys in Black Stone Cherry enjoyed were Avenged Sevenfold. That recommendation was good enough for me. I have got a ton of play out of BSC’s debut disc, so I thought I would give Avenged Sevenfold a shot. Lucky for me they just came out with a brand new disc to check out.
I had no idea what this band sounded like until I watched the video for Almost Easy. The video was enough to sell me on the band, and off I was to seek out the latest by Avenged Sevendfold. Lucky for me, the local rock shop got a few copies in early. (This disc should be available in most U.S. retailers on Tuesday, October 30th.)
Avenged Sevenfold was once lumped into the Metalcore category, but don’t really fit into that mold anymore. Singer M.Shadows had to change his vocals approach due to throat and vocal chord damage, of which he had to have surgery to repair.
I was very surprised to find a Metal band that actually plays guitar solos that you can hear, and a vocalist with a very clean voice. How these guys managed to stay off my radar for so long is a great mystery to me, especially considering how popular this band is with today’s generation.
After listening to this record, I think this band may appeal to some older metalheads than today’s youth.
This disc is not perfect by any means. One listen to the track A Little Piece of Heaven and you may find yourself scratching your head in confusion. This sounds a twisted Pink Floyd circus that was given a metal makeover. This is a very strange track to me.
The guitar sound on Dear God has a country twinge to it, and quite frankly is a song that I will skip every time. ( I hope this isn’t the band trying to pull a Bon Jovi. ) The song could actually have some crossover hit potential on the radio, but isn’t to my liking.
Aside from those songs, I could not find many faults with this record. Synyster Gates guitar playing on this record is extremely cool. The Rev has plenty of double bass drumming to get you rocking, and Johnny Christ offers some chugging bass riffs to get your blood pumping.
Critical Acclaim is a very cool head banging tune. Almost Easy should be a massive hit for the band. If you aren’t hooked by the time you hear the killer guitar riffs on Scream your headphones may be broken.
As a whole, this is a pretty cool metal album, and one that I will be spinning quite a bit in the up and coming weeks. If you haven’t ever checked out Avenged Sevenfold before, give the new album a chance. I think you will like it.
For more info on the band, and to hear more songs, check out Avenged Sevenfold’s myspace page. You can buy your own copy of this disc at Amazon.com at this link!

0 Video – Lennex – A Lesser None
Did you watch the show Rockstar Supernova on CBS? Remember singer Phil Ritchie?
He came on the show to gain some exposure for his band, Lennex, and met his demise for the same reason. For whatever reason, I didn’t care for him on the show very much.
I am glad that I happened to stumble upon his band again. Ritchie’s band Lennex, a five piece band from Maryland has a sound worth checking out.
The video below is for the Lennex song, A Lesser None.
Lennex has two CD’s under their belt, Part Math, Part Euphoria and For The Sake Of Simplicity . They have recently released a new song, Thank You & Goodbye on their myspace page, and are hard at work on album #3. Check them out!
7 Endeverafter – Kiss or Kill (Release Year – 2007)
If the name Endeverafter sounds familiar to, it should. This California four piece band, landed the opening slot on the 2006 Poison and Cinderella tour.
Everyone that caught their live show has been clamoring for Endeverafter’s new disc. I am happy to say that the new CD, Kiss or Kill was definitely worth the wait.
Kiss or Kill is a hard rock disc that plays off of style of Endeverafter’s influences which include Aerosmith, Guns ‘N Roses, and Motley Crue.
Michael Grant’s rifftastic guitar playing is certainly the highlight here, but Endeverafter is an extremely tight unit, and the songs on Kiss or Kill are very satisfying.
I have listened to Kiss or Kill at least 4 times, and each time, I seem to like this disc a little more than the last. This CD is already in my current top 10, and I would not be surprised to find it in the Hard Rock Hideout Top 10 List of 2007. There isn’t a bad song on this record, and not a single track felt like filler material to me. My favorite cuts are I Wanna Be Your Man, Baby,Baby,Baby, Poison, and Tip of My Tongue.
Watch the videos below, then run, don’t walk, to pick up your new copy of Kiss or Kill. It is in stores everywhere today! You won’t be disappointed. This CD Rocks!

2 30 Days of Night – Movie Review
30 Days of Night is the latest Horror Film by Producer Sam Raimi (Spiderman, Evil Dead).
This movie is based on the Graphic Novel by Steve Niles & Ben Templesmith.
When the tiny town of Barrow, Alaska has their 30 Days of Night, some unwanted visitors come to town, A pack of blood thirsty and ravenous vampires. It is up to Eben (Josh Hartnett) and Stella Olsen (Melissa George) the husband and wife sheriff team to save the town.
I have seen many vampire films in my time, and I didn’t expect to see anything new with 30 Days of Night. Not only did 30 Days of Night show me some new things, it exceeded my expectations .
This movie has plenty for horror fans to love. Some Scenes will make you jump. Some will have you on the edge of your seat. Some scenes are extremely gory. Nonetheless, 30 Days of Night is the best horror film on the market during the Halloween season.
I enjoyed this movie and think it is well worth your time and your money! Go Check it Out!

30 Days of Night Trailer
0 Introducing VIRON
It was the idea of CREMATORY drummer Markus Jllich to form a true metal band after he noticed singer Alexx Stahl playing with his band in a small club. He was very impressed by his vocal skills and he was looking for the best musicians in the German Rhein-Main-area to form a band around Alexx that eventually became SEDUCTION. After the big success of bands like HAMMERFALL or SONATA ARCTICA his aim was to create a similar sounding band gaining equal success.
The line-up was Alexx Stahl (Vocals), Thilo Feucht (Guitars), Mad (Keyboards), Ingmar Holzhauer (Bass) and Neudi (Drums). Under the direction of Markus Jllich the first demo-CD was recorded at Kohlekeller Studio. Several companies showed interest in SEDUCTION and they played a lot gigs with bands like TIERRA SANTA, BONFIRE, AGATHODAIMON, EAZY RIDER and SCAPEGOAT. A second CD was recorded and again they got brilliant reviews in the whole metal press (Metal Hammer, Rock Hard, Break Out, Heavy Oder Was). They even called SEDUCTION the next big thing! or best unsigned band from Germany!, they split up a few weeks after the release. SEDUCTION was more like a project and parts of the band werent happy with the style and the so called True Metal image.
Singer Alexx and drummer Neudi (who also plays in the CENTURY follow-up KOKOON) joined the DEEP PURPLE Tribute band CHILD IN TIME in late 2003 and so they met each other again. This leads to a meeting where SEDUCTION decided to start again, but this time as a real band, playing their own style of metal. While Alexx is into bands like SAXON and TWISTED SISTER, guitarist Thilo is strongly influenced by early METALLICA and CHILDREN OF BODOM and his ultra-fast guitar solos are his trademark. Bassist Ingmar is a fan of IRON MAIDEN and Steve Harris, drummer Neudi is well-known in the scene as the drummer of cultbands like SUDDEN DARKNESS and ECONOMIST; also he is having his own radioshow and he was the guy with one of the first metal television show in Germany (Heavy Metal Battle, 1985 to 1992). The fourpiece changed name in VIRON and started writing songs.
In November 2004 VIRON entered the Kohlekeller Studio (CREMATORY, KILLER, AGATHODAIMON) to record their demo EP called NWOGHM. Unlike SEDUCTION, they used real drums (no triggers or computer sounds) and no keyboards (except of a piano part). What you hear on the CD is handmade music played by human beings. The CD contains 4 songs written by VIRON and a cover of Run For Tomorrow, originally recorded by US-Metal legends EXXPLORER!
The EP was sent to several metal-related record companies and to some magazines. After just a few weeks VIRON had various offers for a deal and they decided to sign with SONIC AGE (Greece). Currently the band is in the studio to record their full debut CD, the same way they recorded the EP handmade music ONLY! Also the line-up was completed with ex-ECONOMIST, SUDDEN DARKNESS guitar player Roger Dequis. Now VIRON are a classic metal-fivepiece. NWOGHM got tons of great reviews in mags like Rock Hard, Metal Hammer, Break Out, Heavy and Metal Heart, but also in fanzines and webzines. In 2006 VIRON played Swordbrothers Festival and Headbangers Open Air, but also many single shows with bands like Ruffians, Solemnity or Sabaton. In March 2007 they appeared on a Manilla Road tribute CD called “The Riddle Masters” performing “Dreams of Eschaton”. In April 2007 VIRON signed a new deal with the German label METAL HEAVEN (Riot, Ruffians etc.). They will enter the studio by August 07…

0 New Victory Pill Album in Stores Now!
Victory Pill’s debut, self-titled album was released on Tuesday October 23rd!.
Victory Pill guitarist and frontman Jim Davies (ex-Pitchshifter, Prodigy) has posted a blog on the group’s MySpace page discussing Victory Pill, his new project with Prodigy drummer Kieron Pepper.
“After I did the Flint project I had decided it was time to do something for myself for once. Looking back I have done a lot of other people’s bands. Even though I played a big part in ‘shifter, it wasn’t my band. I’d been writing alot of instrumentals, which is how I normally write music. I had around 20 tunes. I’d been doing this on the quiet on my own and wasn’t sure what to do with them until I played them to Kieron Pepper. He went mad at me saying ‘You have to do something with this!’ So we formed a band,” says Davies of the group’s formation. “We tried for ages to find a vocalist that fit the music but none worked. I wanted a very English sounding vocal, I love bands like The Jam, The Sex Pistols and Depeche Mode,. All the singers we tried sounded like Slipknot, so I tried it myself and it really gelled. It was a big move for me to go from being just a guitarist to front-man/lyricist. I’d never written lyrics before now and I had to rehearse it a lot to be able to do all the guitar madness I do live and sing, but I’m really comfortable with it now.”
Jim Davies guitar work helped shaped the band Prodigy’s breakthrough Fat Of The Land album, which included modern rock hits “Firestarter” and “Breathe”. Jim toured worldwide with the band including a headline slot at Reading 2001.
Davies was also a contributing member of electro-metal outfit Pitchshifter who toured alongside Incubus and Ozzfest. Davies contributed to the groundbreaking http://www.pitchshifter.com album, as well as co-wrote the subsequent Deviant and PSI records. Davies’ last gig for Pitchshifter was immortalized in the Bootlegged, Distorted live album.
“I think this album is a natural progression for me from what I did with Pitchshifter. There is obviously a taste of ‘shifter in there which is unavoidable as I co-wrote a lot the last few albums. But then tunes like ‘King and Country’ wouldn’t have worked in Pitchshifter because it’s not even a rock song and that’s what I find really refreshing about doing Victory Pill. I can take it anywhere I want and not be restrained by someone saying ‘That’s not what Pitchshifter should be sounding like,'” says Davies. “I think fans of electronic music will dig it, certain tunes like ‘Red Pill’, ‘Scaremonger’ and ‘Thin Line’ are very electronic. I think industrial heads will like tunes like ‘Downfall’ and ‘Another Clone’ and there also more melodic more live band sounding tunes on there like ‘Worst Case Scenario'”.
Victory Pill has made an Mp3 of the track “King and Country” available through the Corporate Punishment Podcast, which can be downloaded at the following location http://corporatepunishment.libsyn.com/
For a limited time, the band is still offering a free t-shirt to anyone who orders the album through the Corporate Punishment website at the following location http://www.corporatepunishment.com/shop/?manufacturers_id=26

2 Kik Tracee – No Rules (Release Year – 1991)
One of my recent re-acquistions was the debut CD by Kik Tracee, No Rules.
This CD was produced by Slaughter’s Dana Strum. Not surprisingly, the band sounds like Slaughter, and at times a little like Guns ‘N Roses.
Steven Shareaux is a good singer, and has a sound that is somewhat unique. The band is quite solid as well.
No Rules is a CD that was a little better than some of the other offerings by many of the hard rock bands in the early 90’s. This CD, like many, was released to late in the game, and crashed and burned when Nirvana hit the music scene. The band hung around and released an EP in 1992 but then broke up and has not been heard from since.
Some of the stand out cuts on this disc are You’re So Strange, Trash City, Velvet Crush and the cover of the Paul Simon classic Mrs. Robinson.
Fans of 80’s hard rock are going to love No Rules! You can get low cost used copies of this CD at Amazon.com. Go grab one before they are all gone! You can hear more songs at Kik Tracee’s myspace page here.

0 WZZO – Interview with Josey Scott from Saliva
Josey Scott from Saliva called into WZZO for an Interview with Tori Thomas in advance of their show in Allentown, PA.
In addition to talking about how the band’s personal drama helped create their latest CD – “Blood Stained Love Story”, he also talked about living the rock star life to the fullest, how Nikki Sixx helped him with his personal demons, and he answers the burning question – Boxers or Commando!
It is a really cool, and funny interview, that you hard rockers need to take the time out to listen to.

1 Introducing Underwhelmed!
Brooklyn, NY is known for many things, but great Modern Rock is probably not one of them. Now the BK’s best kept secret, Underwhelmed, are looking to change that, breaking out with a 3 Month tour in support of their recently released EP, The War Between Myself and Me, available at shows and via mail-order and iTunes, with a full-length to follow in early 2008 on Corporate Punishment Records/Koch.
Since forming nearly a decade ago, the explosive NYC quintet have amassed a huge underground following with their brand of infectious blue collar Hard Rock, which has gained comparisons to everyone from Nickelback to Fuel to Pearl Jam to Springsteen, and incendiary live shows up and down the East Coast including legendary NYC haunts CBGB’s, Arlene’s Grocery, L’Amours, BB King’s, and more.
The EP, produced and co-written by Thom Hazaert (Chimaira, Switched, Erase The Grey), and engineered and mixed by Ben Schigel (Drowning Pool, Walls of Jericho, Chimaira), features 5 tracks from the bands forthcoming Corporate Punishment debut, due in stores early 2008.
Vocalist Chris Amplo said “We’re very excited to get out on the road and play these new songs for people. We’ve been working on these new songs for so long, and just writing and recording, and the reaction we’ve already gotten is incredible. And the Midwest is really where a Ro ck band can still go out and just kick ass every night and win new fans. Unfortunately you can’t really do that in NYC, especially a band like us. We’ve always been kinda the odd man out, not heavy enough, not weird enough, whatever. (A topic the band tackles in their song “Freak”) Now we’ve found other great bands to play with, and a scene that has really embraced us and the music we’re making, which is a great feeling.”
You can catch Underwhelmed live on the following dates:
October
24 The Modern Exchange – Southgate, MI

2 Coheed & Cambria scares the University of Kansas
Coheed & Cambria caused quite the commotion at the University of Kansas this week. Following a number of dorm windows being shot out a set of cryptic symbols were found spray painted throughout the campus with the date “10/23/07” underneath it. Rumors began to spread on the University’s campus that another shooting was coming on Tuesday (10/23/07). The campus police were swamped with phone calls and questions about the impending violence. Fortunately, the graffiti symbols popping up all over campus were to promote Coheed & Cambria’s release of their latest album No World For Tomorrow. The police eventually ruled out anything else as pure coincidence.

17 Bo Bice – See The Light (Release Year – 2007)
Southern Rocker Bo Bice has released his sophomore effort, titled, See the Light.
On this new release, Bo saw the light and got out of his American Idol contract, and put out a rock record in the style he wanted.
On this record, you will not find tunes written by Bon Jovi. Tom Keifer didn’t produce any of the tunes. No help from AI trusted pop song writers are present on this disc. This is pure Bo Bice. He wrote the songs himself, and enlisted a little help from producer Frank Liddell to craft ten tunes of pure rock goodness.
See The Light is not a hard rock record by any means, but is a good rock record the falls somewhere in between the Rolling Stones and The Eagles. Chances are if you like Classic Rock from the 70’s, you are going to find a lot to enjoy on See The Light.
The tunes are well written, the guitar work by Bice and Philip Shouse is very good. Bice also enlists the help of keyboardist Thomas Lee, who plays some guitar and keyboards. Thomas is no strange to Bice fans, as he has accompanied Bo on his 2006 tour.
I already have several favorite cuts on this disc including Witness, Got Money and Whiskey, Women & Time. My wife and I, saw Bo Bice and his band Sugar Money perform Got Money in February of 2006, at the House of Blues in Cleveland, OH. I have been clamoring to get my hands on a copy of that tune for over a year now. I am overjoyed to find it here.
Whiskey, Women & Time, and Sinner in a Sin are both tunes that were only available on the Dual Disc DVD side of Bo’s debut effort, The Real Thing. Both songs are concert staples, that I have heard Bice perform several times. The versions of these songs are far better and have a different arrangement than the versions on that record, so they don’t feel like rehashed songs at all. These are well written, and time tested tunes. Bo Bice fans that have seen him live, already love these songs. Chances are, new fans will too!
As a whole, the songs on See the Light surpass those on the debut disc in just about every way possible. If you haven’t ever given Bo Bice a chance because he was on American Idol, now is the best time to jump on board and see what Bo Bice is all about. You can find this disc at Wal-mart stores everywhere.

5 The Order – Metal Casino (Release Year – 2007)
I love it when new Metal Acts surprise me in 2007, especially when they have a sound that is rooted in 80’s hard rock and metal. The Order actually isn’t new, this is actually their 2nd full length release.
The Order are a four piece band out of Switzerland. They have a sound that blends a little bit of Dokken, with a dash of KISS, and yet rock hard enough to create something different and new.
Take one listen to Gianni Pontillo’s vocals in the video below, for the song Satisfaction, and see if you can hear a little bit of Paul Stanley in his sound.
Nonetheless, Metal Casino rocks from beginning to end. There are plenty of great cuts on this record including “Mama”, “I love Rock ‘N’ Roll”, “Satisfaction”, and the excellent ballad “My Last Goodbye”. Fans of 80’s Hard Rock Bands like Dokken, XYZ, KISS and Krokus are going to love this disc.
The Order joins what seems to be a growing list of great Swiss Hard Rock bands releasing quality new tunes in the last couple of years. This disc is definitely a contender for one of the Top 10 Hard Rock Records of 2007!.

1 3 Mile Scream New Video Debut – Our Blackened Sun
3 Mile Scream’s video for the track “Our Blackened Sun” will make its premiere on Much Music’s LOUD program Thurs Oct 18th, 2007 at 12:30am EST. The video was directed by Chad Archibald (Arise and Ruin) and can be viewed online today at the Hard Rock Hideout!
“We are all very excited to have our video for ‘Our Blackened Sun’ premiere on Much Music,” says 3 Mile Scream frontman Matt McGachy. “We all grew up watching LOUD, so it’s an honor to have our video be included on the show with all the other great metal that they play.”
“Our Blackened Sun” is taken from the group’s recently released Corporate Punishment debut album, A Prelude To Our Demise, which can be heard in its entirety at the following location: http://www.altsounds.com/altsounds/bands/3793/playallhi.php
The album has prompted a plethora of critical acclaim from critics and fans, including Arch Enemy’s Michael Amott who claimed the band was, “Heavy and melodic, great chops” and Lamb of God’s Randy Blythe who described the band as “Artfully orchestrated brutality.”
