2 Alter Bridge – Fortress (2013) CD Review
I have been listening to Alter Bridge’s fourth album Fortress for a few months now, and I have to say I am disappointed….. disappointed that more people aren’t talking about this album, and that it isn’t getting more praise.
Fortress may be Alter Bridge’s most complex album yet, and quite possibly their best. Mark Tremonti shows his metal roots, by crafting one of the heaviest Alter Bridge albums yet. His guitar work seems to get better and better with every album. On Fortress, Tremtonti’s riffs are heavy enough to please metal heads, but not so heavy to scare off Alter Bridge’s constantly growing fan base.
Myles Kennedy probably gets more press while signing with Slash, but he should get a lot more attention for his performance on Fortress. One word describes his vocals on this album, brilliant! Kennedy’s vocals are constantly soaring to new heights, and no matter how heavy the music becomes, his voice complements Tremonti’s playing perfectly. There are times when Kennedy’s range gives me goose bumps. In example the song “Calm the Fire” starts off with a brief acoustic in which Kennedy pushes his voice at high octave but at a slower tempo. The song transforms into a fantastic rocker that to my ears is simply amazing! This is easily my favorite track on the album, but Fortress is full of great stuff like this.
If you miss songs like “Addicted to Pain”, “Cry of Achilles”, “Bleed it Dry”, or “Waters Rising” you are really missing out on some of the best heavy tracks of 2013 and of Alter Bridge’s career. Check this one out!!

Debut Single from Latest Album Fortress Hits #5 On Mediabase Active Rock Chart and BDS Rock Chart
Myles Kennedy and Mark Tremonti to Appear on That Metal Show This Month in Support of Latest Album and Upcoming World Tour
Alter Bridge are proving to American radio what the rest of the world has already known, they are a musical force to be reckoned with. The band’s debut single “Addicted To Pain” has reached the Top 5 on both the Mediabase Active Rock Chart and the BDS Rock Chart. The single is currently heating up radio waves across the country with stations like WMMR (Phladelphia), WRIF (Detroit), KUPD (Phoenix) and Sirius Octane supporting the single. WJJO in Madison had this to say, “This song has the USA figuring out what the rest of the world already knew: Alter Bridge is amazing.”
“Addicted To Pain” is the first single from the band’s latest album Fortress. Fortress debuted at #12 on the Billboard Top 200, #5 on the Top Current Rock Albums and Top Current Alternative Albums and outsold the band’s previous release, ABIII. Fortress also hit #1 on the iTunes Rock Album chart and #8 on the iTunes Top Album chart the week it was released. The latest release from the rock juggernaut band comprised of Myles Kennedy on vocals/guitar, Mark Tremonti on guitar/vocals, Brian Marshall on bass and Scott Phillips on drums, has been getting rave reviews around the world. The Guardian newspaper called Fortress: “As epic as prime Led Zep and as thunderous as peak-form Sabbath…” and Loudwire declares “the substance and technicality that they have immersed into their music have elevated them to a whole new level.” The album was produced by long-time Alter Bridge producer Michael “Elvis” Baskette, known for his work with Falling In Reverse, Story Of The Year and Incubus.
Myles Kennedy and Mark Tremonti are confirmed to appear on the current season of That Metal Show. This appearance marks the first time Alter Bridge will be on the show even though both guys have appeared on the show before. Myles Kennedy appeared on the show with Slash and Mark Tremonti was on the show in support of his solo project. The band will appear in support of Fortress and to promote their upcoming world tour. The show will air on Saturday, February 15th at 11PM ET/PT on VH1 Classic.
Alter Bridge will be hitting the road this month in support of Fortress. The band will be playing shows in Japan and Australia before coming back for their first US run in support of the latest album. The US tour kicks of April 14th in Dallas, TX and runs through May 18th where it wraps up at Rock on the Range in Columbus, OH. The tour will be making stops in Atlanta, Chicago and New York. The band will also be heading over to Europe this summer where they will be closing this year’s Download Festival on Sunday night as direct support to Aerosmith.
Alter Bridge burst onto the music scene in 2004 with the release of their gold-selling debut, One Day Remains. In 2007, the band released Blackbird, the album that elevated the band’s profile worldwide. The epic solo in the title track “Blackbird” was voted “Greatest Guitar Solo Of All Time” by Guitarist Magazine. ABIII was released in 2010 and the single “Isolation” gave the band their first #1 single. Alter Bridge has appeared on The Tonight Show and Jimmy Kimmel Live and their music has been used by the WWE, Major League Baseball and NASCAR. When Alter Bridge is on hiatus, singer Myles Kennedy can be found fronting Slash’s band, Slash, featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators. Guitarist Mark Tremonti recently released his fist solo project All I Was that found Wolfgang Van Halen playing bass with Mark on the road. Scott Phillips formed Projected with John Connolly and Vinnie Hornsby of Sevendust and released their debut in 2012.

0 Monster Truck – Extensive Touring With Buckchery And Then Alter Bridge Announced
Monster Truck is confirmed to appear as direct support for Alter Bridge on a USA coast-to-coast run. The 12-date tour will begin on April 14 in Dallas, TX and end on a to be announced date in May. The initial announced appearances on the itinerary are cited below.
Monster Truck was fortunate to appear as support for Slash when they first set their sights on the U.S. market. The guitarist shared, “Monster Truck is one of the few really down to earth rock n roll bands I’ve heard in the last couple of years. Hard, soulful & heavy.” Singer Myles Kennedy, who enjoys a prolific career as front man in Slash’s ensemble as well as being the vocalist of Alter Bridge, took an interest in Monster Truck. That relationship, and outspoken support, was the primary driver in delivering this run with two bands sharing the stage. Monster Truck guitarist Jeremy Wildman offers, “We are extremely excited to tour with one of the top rock acts in America and even happier to rejoin the road with our good friend Myles. See ya soon!” Vocalist and Bassist Jon Harvey adds, “Looking forward to watching many stellar shows by the Alter Bridge boys. Watch out America! A real rock ‘n roll tour is on the way!”
Monster Truck and Dine Alone Records have selected “The Lion” as the follow-up single to their debut hit “Sweet Mountain River” from the album, FURIOSITY. The lyric video premiered on GuitarWorld.com and can be viewed here: https://www.guitarworld.com/exclusive-monster-truck-premiere-lyric-video-lion. “Sweet Mountain River” received support, in the US, from rock stations across the country. In Canada, the song achieved the milestone of becoming #1 at the Active Rock, and Mainstream Rock, for eight consecutive weeks. The follow-up track, “The Lion” stood at the top of the Canadian rock charts for six weeks, with an impact date planned for U.S. radio in early 2014.
Monster Truck took home the 2013 Juno Award for Breakthrough Group of The Year, toured their home country of Canada with Alice In Chains, and established themselves as a major headlining attraction. In the U.S., the band has been very active, appearing with Kid Rock, Slash, Guns ‘n Roses, Sevendust, and others, performing for hundreds of thousands of rock fans over the course of this year. Overseas, the band appeared on a 29-date run of Europe supporting Vista Chino (formerly Kyuss). In March, 2014, Monster Truck return to Europe as headliners of the “Lords of the Riff, Volume 1” tour in association with Classic Rock and Metal Hammer Magazines.
The band has been filmed extensively as they travel the globe, and recently premiered a short-form documentary capturing their essence. It can be streamed here: https://youtu.be/IYLkY4mxcdk
Hailing from Ontario, Canada, Monster Truck was formed in 2009 by Jon Harvey (bass, lead vocals), Jeremy Widerman (guitar, vocals), Brandon Bliss (organ, vocals) and Steve Kiely (drums, vocals). What began as a side-project to their other more ‘serious’ bands quickly gained momentum and took on a life of its own. The band has released 2 EPs since their inception; a self-titled, and notably self-released EP produced by Gus Van Go & Werner F (The Stills, Priestess, Hollerado) and The Brown EP (also produced by Ratz) on Dine Alone Records.
Produced by Eric Ratz (Three Days Grace) at Vespa Studios in Toronto and Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville, NC, FURIOSITY showcases Monster Truck’s ability to seamlessly integrate influences from grunge and punk era greats that they love so dearly with alt-sounding vintage rock. The resulting album remains anchored in grooves, yet propulsive and volcanic, fueled by front man Jon Harvey’s colossal and impressive vocal delivery. The Huffington Post exclaimed, “…no-frills classic rock and roll — huge Les Paul guitar riffs, spacey organ fills, thunderous drums, bottom-heavy bass, and one powerful vocalist. The spirit of Stillwater and Grand Funk Railroad lives! I predict these lads will be playing much larger venues very soon.”

9 Hard Rock Hideout’s Top 10 Hard Rock & Metal Albums for 2013
There were a bunch of great releases in 2013 and each year it seems harder and harder to pick the 10 best. Ryo Vie and I have listed our 10 best hard rock and metal albums of 2013. Agree or Disagree? Let us know what your picks are in the comments below!!
Rob Rockitt’s Top Hard Rock & Metal Albums of 2013
I am glad 2013 is now in our rear view mirror. 2013 has hung heavily over my family on the injury and overall health and wellness. Not only has it affected my family members, I laid to rest two of my furry family members, Jake & Mia. On the music front, 2013 was pretty good. maybe not as strong as some of the recent past years. That doesn’t mean we were without quality music. There was a lot of great music that was released, and 2014 looks to be another great year for hard rock & metal music.
10. Death Angel – The Dream Calls for Blood
It had to happen sooner or later…. a band has out-thrashed the Big 4. Death Angel’s The Dream Calls For Blood is the best thrash metal album of 2013. When I first heard the title track “The Dream Calls For Blood” I was immediately hooked. This album is heavy, dark and sometimes brutal. It is Bay Area metal at its finest. This album also has a killer cover of Black Sabbath’s Heaven & Hell”.
9. Motörhead – Aftershock
You have heard one Motörhead, you have heard them all right? WRONG! Lemmy Kilmister and company prove they have plenty of fire left in them, and have crafted one of their best albums to date. I have all of 21 of their albums, and I have found Aftershock to be completely satisfying. Lemmy pulls out a bunch of new riffs for Aftershock, making this one of the most surprising albums of 2013. Fair warning, you may want to set your cruise control if playing this album while driving. It may be hazardous to your driving record.
8. Michael Monroe – Horns & Halos
Michael Monroe has done it again with his latest effort Horns & Halos. Monroe has crafted another great album. Horns & Halos is a little more punky and a little less glammy than 2011’s Sensory Overdrive, but it is a solid album all the way through.
07. Alter Bridge – Fortress
Man oh man, Alter Bridge quietly released their new album Fortress in October. With their album Blackbird being so great, I thought ABIII (2010) was a step backward for Alter Bridge. The band righted any wrongs with their new album Fortress. Fortress is Alter Bridge’s heaviest album to date. Myles Kennedy dishes out some powerful vocals, and Mark Tremonti’s riffs are drifting ever so closer to his metal roots.(Check out the video for Addicted to Pain below) Fortress is another one of 2013’s great surprises.
06. Stryper – No More Hell To Pay
If someone would have told me Stryper would release one of their best albums in 2013, I wouldn’t have believed it, but that is exactly what happened. No More Hell To Pay is packed with heavy riffs, and the fantastic vocals of Michael Sweet. No More Hell To Pay is one of Stryper’s heaviest albums, and packed with great songs. I am hopeful to see Stryper perform some of these in 2014. That would be a real treat!
05. Black Sabbath – 13
While the drama between Bill Ward and Black Sabbath continues, one thing is for certain, 13 is the strongest albums that Sabbath has ever released, and definitely one of the strongest with Ozzy Osbourne singing. If you didn’t pick up the bonus edition CD of 13 (available at Best Buy), you missed out one not one, but three killer Sabbath songs “Methademic”, “Peace of Mind” and “Pariah”. “Methademic” was a staple in Sabbath’s concert list this summer.
04. Tom Keifer – The Way Life Goes
Tom Keifer worked on his solo album for many years before finally releasing The Way Life Goes in 2013. The wait was well worth it, as the Cinderella front man has turned in one of 2013’s best rock albums. Getting to see Tom perform with his solo band was one of my favorite concert moments of 2013 too.
03. Airbourne – Black Dog Barking
Sooner or later, Airbourne is going to get the respect they deserve. The band released their third and arguably best album in 2013. This album has gotten countless plays from me in 2013, and will continue to be played for many years to come.
02. Winery Dogs – S/T
Billy Sheehan, Mike Portnoy, Richie Kotzen are some of the best hard rock musicians to ever grace the stage. With this in mind, I knew the Winery Dogs album would have to be awesome, and it is. Great songs, vocals and musicianship. The Winery Dogs are a dream band for any hard rock fan and should not be missed.
01. Brand New Machine- The Devil Made Me Do It
Sometimes simple is better…. Ever since I stumbled upon this album by complete accident in August of this year while music shopping with my buddy Ryo Vie, I have not been able to stop listening to The Devil Made Me Do It. Former Beautiful Creatures guitarist Michael Thomas has breathed some serious life into Brand New Machine. I am a sucker for good old 80’s style sleaze rock and The Devil Made Me Do It delivers from beginning to end. Check out the clips below and buy the album here!!
There were so many great albums in 2013, it wouldn’t be fair to not mention those albums that nearly made my top list. All of the albums below are very worthy of your hard earned dollars.
Age of Days – Radioactivity
Avenged Sevenfold – Hail To The King
Buckcherry – Confessions
Deep Purple – Now What?
Krokus – Dirty Dynamite
Megadeth – Super Collider
Pop Evil – Onyx
Sammy Hagar – Sammy Hagar & Friends
Sideburn – Electricity
Skillet – Rise
Suicidal Tendencies – 13
Voodoo Circle – More Than One Way Home
Ryo Vie’s 10 Favorite Hard Rock Albums For 2013
Another year is over. A new one has just begun. 2013 was a solid year for hard rock music lovers. Some exceptional albums were released by new comers, young stars, and the royal guard of the past. We were blessed with new music from Pearl Jam, Black Sabbath, and the return of Suicidal Tendencies.
Young bands like Pop Evil and Five Finger Death Punch released their best material to date. And a new band put out one incredible record. All in all 2013 was a fantastic year for music. We can only hope that 2014 will be just as great. And as we look forward to the new releases of 2014, let’s take a moment to reflect on the best releases of the past year. Here’s Ryo’s picks for the 10 best hard rock albums of 2013.
“Suicidal’s back, Suicidal’s back!” So sang Cyko Miko on the latest Suicidal Tendencies record, 13. This was a fantastic record that heralded the return of one of the best hard rocking bands around. 13 was a solid release that made me glad Suicidal Tendencies were back in action. Layered with multiple infectious grooves, powerful hooks, heavy guitars, and lots of funk and fun, 13 is a powerful album that takes the listener on a journey of musical styles with thrash always remaining as the main focus. Suicidal is back indeed— and we couldn’t be happier.
09. Five Finger Death Punch – The Wrong Side Of Heaven And The Righteous Side Of Hell Volume 1
2013 was a very good year for Five Finger Death Punch. They released two terrific albums in the span of 10 weeks and both charted high on the Billboard charts, deservedly so. Both albums are exceptional works of art, and worthy of multiple listens. Volume One was an enjoyable, unexpected delight that really caught my ear and got my attention. And it was only the beginning of what was to come for this band in 2013. However, if this was the only record the band put out, it would have been good enough. Thankfully for hard rockers everywhere, Five Finger Death Punch wasn’t stopping at just one.
08. Hell Or Highwater – Begin Again
Atreyu drummer/vocalist Brandon Saller’s side project released one hell of a record this year. Begin Again is a stellar modern rock album packed with gems. The album had plenty of staying power and longevity and I found myself returning to it again and again as the year went on. That’s always the sign of an amazing record, which is just what Begin Again is. If this album somehow passed you by, I still recommend that you seek it out.
It was nice to see Buckcherry back with a new record in 2013. Most people may have forgotten about this album since it came out so early in the year (early January) and that’s a real shame, because Confessions is a strong record filled with enjoyable songs that rock eardrums hard. It was interesting to see Buckcherry put together a themed album, and they pulled it off, delivering a grand collection of songs on Confessions. I still listen to “Wrath” on a regular basis and it has become one of my favorite Buckcherry songs, up there with “Lit Up.” Yes, I did just state that.
06. Tom Keifer – The Way Life Goes
No Cinderella? No problem. Tom Keifer went solo and released the biggest surprise of 2013 with The Way Life Goes. I had no expectations when this record was released, and it absolutely blew my mind. After all that he has been through, it was amazing to see Tom Keifer can still make meaningful music, and that his voice still sounds as terrific as ever. It may be the best he’s ever sounded. The Way Life Goes has me hopeful to see Mr. Keifer at some of the festivals this year, particularly M3. With or without Cinderella, Tom Keifer is a force, and The Way Life Goes proves it.
The godfathers of heavy metal reunited (sans Bill Ward) and released a record. 13 is bound to be on everyone’s top 10 list this year, simply because it’s Black Sabbath and that creates a lot of exposure. However, the record deserves to be on most top 10 lists because it’s a spectacular album. Returning to the early sound of Black Sabbath (from their debut release), 13 is a mind trip of amazing music performed by real heavy metal pioneers. Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Ozzy Osbourne worked hard to create a sound that was true Black Sabbath—and they succeeded marvelously. 13 is a magnificent release and one that any hard rock fan should own.
04. Avenged Sevenfold – Hail To The King
Avenged Sevenfold just keeps getting better and better with every record they release. If there is any successor to the great Iron Maiden, Avenged Sevenfold are it. Their music is complex, layered in multiple guitar riffs, complicated drum beats, and heavy bass lines that pull every note together into a harmony of joyful sound. Hail To The King is certainly Avenged Sevenfold’s best album yet and catapults the band to the next level of greatness. If you haven’t spent much time with Avenged, or if you don’t own any of their albums, Hail To The King is a great place to start.
2013 was a good year for Pop Evil fans. The band continued their endless touring opening for any band that would have them, their live act became better than it ever has been, and they released their hardest album to date, Onyx. I admit, it took me a few spins to get into Onyx, but once I did, I couldn’t get out. I still listen to this album on a weekly basis and continue to find new parts to fall in love with. Pop Evil worked hard to get away from the acoustic ballads they were becoming known for and went to a much darker place. The result was magnificent and Onyx was a serious contender for best album of 2013.
02. Pearl Jam – Lightning Bolt
As is usually the case when Pearl Jam releases a new record, expectations were high. It had been four years since their last release, which was scattered at best. Many fans were wondering if Pearl Jam still had the goods and if they did, could they still deliver. And then the band released the first single, “Mind Your Manners.” Most doubts were squashed right there. Then the band released their next single, “Sirens.” Even critics jaws dropped at that point. “Sirens” is one of the best Pearl Jam songs ever recorded, and Lightning Bolt is one of the band’s best records ever released. In 2013, only one band could make a record better than Lightning Bolt.
01. Five Finger Death Punch – The Wrong Side Of Heaven And The Righteous Side Of Hell Volume 2
When a band has two albums in a top 10 list for one year, it’s obvious that the band has had one magnificent year. Such is the case for Five Finger Death Punch. After the release of Volume 1, I was curious to see what Volume 2 would bring, but felt there was no way it would be better. I have never been more wrong about an album in my life. Volume 2 is one of the greatest records I have ever heard. It blends the perfect mix of hard, heavy, angry, introspective, and soft at just the right times. Volume 2 contains power, emotion, and a level of magnificence that is hard to find on a record. Without question, if you only purchase one release from 2013, The Wrong Side Of Heaven And The Righteous Side Of Hell Volume 2 has to be it. It will be a long time before you hear a better record.
0 Carnival of Madness – Louisville, KY – Concert Review – 8/26/2011
The Carnival of Madness made a stop at the Kentucky State Fair last Friday night. This concert featured new comers Emphatic, Adelitas Way, Black Stone Cherry, Alter Bridge and Theory of a Deadman. Unlike the east coast that was getting hammered with high speed winds and torrential rainfall from Hurricane/Tropical Storm Irene, it was a perfect night for a rock show in Louisville, Ky. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky. The show started like clock work and every band pretty much started at their scheduled time.
Emphatic took the stage at promptly at 6:30, and the first thing I noticed is they had a different singer. I saw Emphatic earlier this year at the Phoenix Hill Tavern in Louisville, KY, and met their singer Patrick Wilson after the show. I wondered all night what had happened to Patrick. Thanks to HRH reader Shaylee, I found out that Emphatic’s singer Patrick Wilson was unable to tour with the Emphatic due to an injury to his vocal chords. Grant Kendrick from the Omaha, NE band, The Wreckage is filling in for Patrick while he heals. To my ears, Kendrick is doing a fine job. Emphatic played several songs off of their newly released self titled CD including: “Do I”, “Get Paid”, “Beg”, “Put Down The Drink”, “Original Sin” and my personal favorite, “Bounce”.
Las Vegas, Nevada’s Adelitas Way was the second act on the Carnival of Madness bill. This was the first time I have seen Adelitas Way perform live. I didn’t have any expectations for this band, and I liked their tunes quite a bit. They played songs from their self titled CD, as well as their new disc Home School Valedictorian. Judging from the tunes they played Friday night, I am going to have to break their CD’s out and give them another listen. They performed a tight set, and were pretty good, however neither Emphatic or Adelitas Way could even come close to the performance put on by Kentucky’s Black Stone Cherry.
The Kentucky State Fair was a home coming performance for Black Stone Cherry. They were the headliner at the Kentucky State Fair one year ago, and quite honestly, I thought they should have been again in 2011. Black Stone Cherry put on a high energy set which included their songs,”Maybe Someday”, “Blame in on the Boom Boom”, “White Trash Millionaire”, “Blind Man”, and “Lonely Train”. They were excellent, and a whole lot of fun to watch. I wish they could have played longer. I have seen BSC perform several times over the years, and they never disappoint. They were easily the highlight of this Carnival of Madness concert.
The last time I saw Alter Bridge perform was in 2008, so I they were the second band that I was looking forward to most on this night. Myles Kennedy and company did not disappoint. Their set included the songs: “Slip to the Void”, “Find the Real”, “White Knuckles”, “Ghost of Days Gone By”, “Ties That Bind”, “Blackbird”, “Come To Life”, “Isolation” and “Rise Today”. The last time I saw Alter Bridge, I remember them being good, but they left a much bigger impression on me this time. Mark Tremonti was excellent on lead guitar all night. Myles Kennedy got to show off his guitar playing prowess, when he traded off guitar solos with Tremonti. I had no idea that Myles Kennedy was THIS good of a guitar player. Who Knew? I hope I can see Alter Bridge again, when they can play a longer set. Their performance was second only to Black Stone Cherry on this evening.
I must admit that I haven’t had a lot of love for Theory of a Deadman over the years. Every time I have seen them live, they have been disappointing at best. On Friday night, they surprised me. They sounded and performed better than any other time I have seen them. Singer Tyler Connolly did his best to interact with the crowd (and not look at his shoes). While I still didn’t think Theory of a A Deadman had a lot of energy, I thought their were much better than I have seen them previously. I don’t know if having Black Stone Cherry and Alter Bridge open up for them puts more pressure on T.O.A.D., but they definitely brought their “A” game to the old Cardinal Stadium. Theory of a Deadman performed their songs “Gentlemen”, “Got it Made”, “All or Nothing”, “So Happy”, “Bitch Came Back”,”Not Meant To Be”, “Lowlife”, their cover of the J.J. Cale classic “Cocaine”, “Bad Girlfriend” and more.
If you take one thing from this review, take this, go see the Carnival of Madness on one of the remaining dates. It is well worth your hard earned cash, and is fun night of rock and roll.

and newcomer Emphatic
Let the madness begin! After its wildly successful inaugural run, the highly anticipated Carnival of Madness Tour returns this summer! Joining the Carnival will be Theory of a Deadman, Alter Bridge, Black Stone Cherry, Adelitas Way and Emphatic.
Fueled by Monster Energy Drink, the Carnival of Madness Tour will tear through North America for 25+ dates set to launch August 13 in Twin Lakes, WI.
VIP ticket pre-sales for the first 15 events will be available for those belonging to Theory of a Deadman’s Deadfan Club beginning Tuesday, May 31, followed by those signed up for the Carnival of Madness mailing list at www.carnivalofmadness.com, beginning Wednesday, June 1. The public on-sale for the first round of shows will be Friday, June 3. All of the ticket on-sale info can be found at www.carnivalofmadness.com. The “Carnival” ticket price acknowledges the current state of the economy offering an “affordable” ticket that will be in the $25 – $35 range.
Bill McGathy, the owner of the Carnival of Madness brand proclaims, “After the incredible energy generated in the inaugural event last year, the 2011 edition combines a fantastic Rock package with a ticket price that is actually affordable in these economically challenged times”.
“Theory of a Deadman is totally stoked to be doing the Carnival of Madness Tour this year,” says singer/guitarist Tyler Connolly. “It’s great to be joined by Alter Bridge, Black Stone Cherry, Adelitas Way and newcomers Emphatic – who all have songs rocking at radio and awesome live shows. It’s gonna be a fuckin’ great show from beginning to end and definitely something you don’t wanna miss! See you there!!!”
Continues Alter Bridge singer/guitarist Myles Kennedy: “Alter Bridge is pleased to be taking part of the Carnival of Madness Tour later this summer with Theory Of A Deadman, Black Stone Cherry, Adelitas Way and Emphatic. It will be great to be back in the U.S. playing on our home turf with these bands. If you dig straight up, no frills Rock…then this tour is for you. Hope to see everyone there!”
One of Vancouver’s greatest exports, Theory of a Deadman, is returning to give rock music a much needed reality check with their fourth studio release, THE TRUTH IS… The album is slated for release on July 12 via Roadrunner/604 Records and the first single, “Lowlife,” is already storming its way up the rock charts. THE TRUTH IS…, the follow up to the band’s previous Platinum-selling SCARS AND SOUVENIRS, was produced by Howard Benson (My Chemical Romance, 3 Doors Down). The band recently wrapped playing the inaugural Avalanche tour alongside Stone Sour, Skillet, Halestorm and Art of Dying, and will be playing select festivals before heading out on the Carnival of Madness Tour. Theory of a Deadman is Tyler Connolly (vocals, guitar), David Brenner (guitar), Dean Back (bass) and Joey Dandeneau (drums).
Alter Bridge has been making their mark on the rock world for years through their three studio releases and non-stop touring. The band is currently haunting the Top 20 of the Rock charts with their latest single, “Ghost of Days Gone By.” The single, the follow-up their #1 rock smash “Isolation,” is from their Alter Bridge Recordings via EMI Label Services release ABIII, which debuted at #17 on Billboard’s “Top 200 Albums” chart when it was released last November. In preparation for the Carnival of Madness Tour, the band just wrapped up a successful headline run with Black Stone Cherry and Like a Storm. Alter Bridge has also made successful national TV appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Jimmy Kimmel Live in support of ABIII. Alter Bridge is Myles Kennedy (vocals, guitar), Mark Tremonti (guitar, vocals), Brian Marshall (bass) and Scott Phillips (drums).
Kentucky’s Black Stone Cherry–vocalist Chris Robertson, guitarist Ben Wells, bassist Jon Lawhon and drummer John Fred Young–is a band adept at creating both timeless rock ‘n roll and new, innovative sounds. The band have recently released their third album for Roadrunner Records, BETWEEN THE DEVIL & THE DEEP BLUE SEA, which is the summation of a year in the life of the band—every emotion, triumph, loss, romance and everything in between—it’s all here on this album. The first single, “White Trash Millionaire,” is currently approaching sitting at #15 on the Active Rock charts and climbing.
Las Vegas-based rockers Adelitas Way will release their sophomore album, HOME SCHOOL VALEDICTORIAN, June 7 on Virgin Records. The album, produced by Dave Bassett (Shinedown), showcases the band’s lyrical and musical growth. The band has spent the past couple of years on the road and is excited to be part of this year’s Carnival.
Hard rock band Emphatic will release DAMAGE, their Atlantic Records debut, on July 12. Led by vocalist Patrick Wilson and lead guitarist Justin McCain, Emphatic has spent years honing their edge on the road, headlining clubs and theaters along with supporting such like-minded artists as Stone Temple Pilots, Buckcherry, and Papa Roach. DAMAGE, produced by Howard Benson (Daughtry, My Chemical Romance, Flyleaf), features the song “Bounce,” which is currently climbing the Active Rock charts.
The Carnival of Madness Tour made its inaugural launch in 2010 with Shinedown, Sevendust, Chevelle, Puddle Of Mudd and 10 Years, which proved to be one of the biggest Rock shows of the summer as a Top 50 tour.

2 Mark Tremonti of Alter Bridge and Creed – The Hard Rock Hideout Interview!
MARK TREMONTI is a founding member and lead guitarist of both Creed and Alter Bridge. To be a part of two successful Rock bands that are embraced by fans worldwide is an accomplishment that most of us nine to fivers can only dream about. Mark Tremonti is certainly living this Rock ‘n’ Roll dream and he has done so throughout his career with the upmost dedication to his music and bands, with more than a touch of class. The songs Mark has written have become benchmarks for generations of aspiring Rock musicians, while the guitar he plays resonates his very own sound and style that is Creed and Alter Bridge.
With the release of AB III back on November 9th, 2010, the critics and fans have spoken with unparalleled approval. Achieving their first number one single with “Isolation”, AB III has been widely accepted as a tremendous album of Hard Rock from a group of musicians that have more than paid their dues. January 11th, 2011 saw the release of the highly anticipated: Alter Bridge “Live From Amsterdam” CD/DVD. With so many great things happening in the world of Alter Bridge, the timing could never be more perfect to interview Mark Tremonti. During his extremely busy schedule, Mark took the time to answer some questions that Hard Rock Hideout threw at him. Here is what Mark had to say:
HRH: Congratulations on your bands first #1 single! (Isolation had hit #1 on the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart in the U.S.). How Satisfying does this feel?
MARK: Oh, it’s great! We’ve been working long and hard over these years. It’s hard to get a number one single. We’ve had a couple of number two singles in the past, so getting our first number one is really fun!
HRH: Who have you turned to throughout your career, for the most advice and support?
MARK: I would say my bandmates and managers. They are the only ones who know what we’re really going through. The guys I “look up to” I only speak with for a couple of hours now and again.
HRH: When you began writing songs for AB III, were there any pre-determined themes you wanted to cover or did the lyrical and writing process fall into place naturally?
MARK: It went the same way as our other records. Myles (Kennedy) and I always go back and forth with each other. It’s just like putting together pieces of a puzzle. We like to keep our songs open-ended while we both share in the process. This time around, with AB III, we wrote a darker and heavier record. I just did not want to consider radio or record sales this time around, with our new record. I just knew this time not to “play it safe”, it just hinders the entire writing process.
HRH: Did you ever perceive “Wonderful Life” (from AB III) to sound so moving once it was recorded?
MARK: That song really translated really well on record. When I heard Myles singing that tune on tour, I said I have to remember this song for our new record! I think this song is a shining moment vocally for Myles.
HRH: I’ll agree with you!
HRH: Was “Slip To The Void” (from AB III) written about anyone the band knows personally?
MARK: Myles has had his troubles, losing faith in recent years and not believing in the material world, so this was what Myles was going through personally.
HRH: Can you reveal the secret to Myles taking care of his amazing voice?
MARK: There’s no secret. Myles works hard and he has studied in L.A. with Ron Anderson. Myles warms up one and a half hours before a show and warms down afterwards. He doesn’t smoke or eat any foods high in sugar. Myles is very conscientious in taking care of himself.
HRH Note: Ron Anderson is a renowned vocal coach.
HRH: Being that Alter Bridge played their very first live show in Amsterdam, was there a special vibe you guys received from the fans there, while you recorded “Live From Amsterdam”?
MARK: Oh yeah! They were a great crowd! We’d do anything and the fans in Amsterdam would be all over it! I’m really glad we chose Amsterdam to record our live record.
HRH: Do you stockpile guitar parts you’ve written for future albums or do you take it as it comes?
MARK: No, I stockpile lots of stuff all the time. If I’m bored, I go through my guitar parts for new ideas. I label them for the part that it is, say, bridge, lead, solo, with 4/4 timing and so on. The sad truth is, most of my material, about seventy percent of it, I’ll never use.
HRH: Wow, Mark, that is a lot of parts that will never be heard.
MARK: That’s why I’m doing a solo record. I’m trying not to waste anything I’ve written over the years.
HRH: What does the schedule look like for your solo record?
MARK: I’ve revisited it in February and it will take a couple of years to finish. It will take downtime off touring to get the work done on this solo album. Then, family does keep me busy during downtime!
HRH: Brace yourself Mark, this is an important question coming. Do you watch American Idol?
MARK: I don’t. My wife is watching it though. After all these years, I’ve kind of lost track of it all. The first four seasons were good and it was advertised all over the place.
HRH: If you could travel back to the 70’s, what band would you want to try out for on guitar?
MARK: Oh gee, that’s a tough one. Maybe as a rhythm guitarist for Led Zeppelin. Black Sabbath too. Those are two great bands, you can’t get any better than that!
HRH: Do you have a message to share to your fans?
MARK: I really want to thank them for their support over the years.

0 Alter Bridge – AB III (2010)
I can’t think of may rock releases in 2010 that I have been looking more forward to than Alter Bridge’s third effort AB III. Alter Bridge’s previous release Blackbird was excellent, and one of my favorite CD’s of 2007. My hopes were high that AB III would be at that same high level. After hearing Myles Kennedy’s fine work on Slash’s CD earlier this year, it only whet my appetite even more to hear some new Alter Bridge music.
AB III has a ton of new music to digest, and chances are, you won’t do it in one sitting. The regular version of the CD has over an hour of music, and the Best Buy Edition , with its two bonus tracks, clocks in at over 70 minutes. With that being said, I believe AB III is more of a grower type of CD, but there are many flashes of brilliance on this disc that will take several spins to fully absorb.
First and Foremost, Myles Kennedy’s vocals on this disc are AWESOME. Kennedy is easily one of the most talented singers in rock today, and his voice shines big on AB III.
The opening song, “Slip To The Void” is a powerful number that may just be one of the heaviest Alter Bridge songs to date. Chances are you have heard this first single off of AB III, “Isolation”, and you already know how heavy this song this. “Isolation” and “Slip To The Void” offer up two great, heavy songs right out of the gate, and set the tone for AB III. This easily Alter Bridge’s heaviest and darkest album to date.
“Ghost of Days Gone By” is much like a spark that turns into a roaring wildfire. At first it seemed that this song was mixed in as a pace breaker for the first two heavy cuts. The song starts slow but builds into yet another heavy number. I have mixed feelings on this tune. I think it could have stood out better without the heavy rocker it morphs into.
“Make It Right” is one of the more catchy songs on AB III. I hope Alter Bridge releases this as a single. It could be a big hit for the band.
“Wonderful Life” shows a different side of Alter Bridge. This is a slower number that showcases the powerful voice of Myles Kennedy. Kennedy shows his impressive range, on this incredible number. This is a well written number that will make even the non Alter Bridge fan say “WOW”! Anyone that has ever been in a relationship will relate to this song.
Some of the other highlights on this album are “Coeur D’alene”, “Life Must Go On”, “Words Darker Than Their Wings”. Both of the bonus tracks, “Zero” and “Home” are pretty solid tunes making the Best Buy version of the disc the best overall value.
I have played AB III heavily over the last couple of weeks, and while it has some great songs, it does not surpass its predecessor Blackbird. It is still a very solid album, and one that Alter Bridge, or Myles Kennedy fans should not miss.

2 Alter Bridge Names New Album
Alter Bridge sent out the following update about their new album:
0 Alter Bridge Set To Return To The UK For Full October Tour
Third Album To Be Released Later This Year
Anthemic rockers Alter Bridge have today announced that they will be returning to the UK this October to tour the country once again in support of their forthcoming 3rd studio album (further details tba)
After a hugely successful UK tour in support of their stunning second album ‘Blackbird’ in November 2008, Alter Bridge – Myles Kennedy, Mark Tremonti, Brian Marshall and Scott Philips have been busy. As well as writing a brand new album, they’ve also been pursuing individual projects – Myles has co-written and lent his incredible vocals to 2 tracks from the new album from ex-Guns N Roses Guitarist Slash, which has been met with huge acclaim from both fans and critics alike. Myles is also going to be joining Slash on tour as vocalist when the rock legend tours his new album this summer. Meanwhile, Tremonti, Marshall and Philips have reunited with ex band mate Scott Stapp to reform their previous band Creed and are touring the USA.
But with a brand new album to add to their spectacular arsenal, the band cannot wait to come back to the UK to wow fans up and down the country once again with their captivating blend of crowd pleasing, fist pumping anthems and raw, life affirming ballads. Speaking on the band’s October tour, Myles Kennedy had the following to say….
“We can’t wait to get back and share the new songs with our friends in the UK. It’s going to be a great run!”

4 Slash – S/T (2010)
From Guns N’ Roses, to Slash’s Snake Pit, to Velvet Revolver, Slash has had one hell of a career so far. One thing is for certain, if you have lived on the planet Earth for the last few months, you have heard a lot of hype about Slash’s new solo album. I must admit that although I like Slash, I didn’t have high hopes for this CD. Usually when there is such a hodgepodge of musicians on a release like this, the end result is typically a couple of good songs a but not much more. This is NOT the case with Slash’s CD.
First and foremost, Slash plays his ass off on this CD. His guitar work is superb all the way through. It is going to take a few more plays before I fully realize the full effort that Mr. Hudson has put into this disc. If anything, I am quite impressed.
The opening song “Ghost” has made me hungry for some new Cult songs. This is no phone in performance from Ian Astbury. This is a great vocal, and an awesome song!
I love Ozzy Osbourne, and I thought his appearance might be one of the lone highlights on this CD. I would have to say that Slash’s playing on “Crucify the Dead” is better than Ozzy’s vocals. All in all, it is a decent song, but not one of my favorites.
Fergie’s appearance on this disc, took quite a few people by surprise. I am not a Black Eyed Peas fan by any means, but I have heard Fergie sing enough rock songs to know that she has some vocal talent. (Take a look on youtube and check out her rendition of Heart’s Barracuda.) With that being said, I didn’t have an issue with her appearance here. Fergie turns in a very good vocal performance, and seems to be a good match for Slash’s playing. I found “Beautiful Dangerous” surprisingly refreshing.
I have been anxiously awaiting to hear Slash’s song with Myles Kennedy for quite some time. Myles has made quite an impression on me with the last Alter Bridge album. This guy is one hell of a singer. He is also Slash’s singer on tour, so it is important that his vocals are top-notch here. I am pleased to say that both “Back to Cali” and “Starlight” are highlights on this disc. Myles Kennedy may just be one of the most under rated vocalists today.
Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell turns in a solid vocal on “Promise”. This song has single written all over it. This is going to get a lot of radio play without question.
The first single from this CD, is “By The Sword” with Wolfmother’s Andrew Stockdale. I am not sure why this song was released as the single. It is not the best song on this CD. It isn’t even close. The song almost has a Led Zeppelin like vibe. Although it is not one of my favorites, it has grown on me after a few spins. The song does work to break up the pace on the album.
Maroon 5’s Adam Levine takes the mic on the song “Gotten”. With no surprise, this song is more of a pop tune, than a rock song, but it isn’t bad. I can’t say that I have ever heard Slash play like this. His playing is rather light until about two-thirds of the way through the tune, when he breaks out with some cool bluesy licks.
Thank God for Motorhead’s Lemmy! You know exactly what you are going to get with a vocal from Lemmy. He always dishes out razor-sharp vocals with Motorhead, and while “Doctor Alibi” may not be as heavy as a Motorhead tune, he does turn in a pretty good vocal. I like this song a lot.
“Watch This” became an instrumental tune when Dave Grohl decided that he did not want to SING on Slash’s album. Grohl does play the drums on watch this, and it turns out to be a pretty cool tune. This is easily one of the heaviest songs on this CD. I don’t think Grohl’s vocals would have improved this. You can download “Watch This” for free, here!
Kid Rock offers no surprises on “I Hold On”. This song has a very southern rock like vibe to it. I am not a big Kid Rock fan either, but I must admit, Kid Rock sounds 100% better with Slash.
After hearing Avenged Sevenfold’s M. Shadows on “Nothing To Say” I thought myself, could this be the singer that Velvet Revolver needs? This is an up tempo rocker, and Slash’s playing is awesome here. I love hearing him cut loose like this! M. Shadows and Slash seems to complement each other well. Who knew this one would work? Very cool indeed!!
Out of all of the musicians on Slash’s solo CD, I am least familiar with Rocco DeLuca. Much like the song, with Adam Levine, Slash shows another side of his six string prowess. Even though this style of song is not what I would expect from Slash, it does sound like a million bucks. The production is top notch.
The album closes out with the legendary Iggy Pop signing “We’re All Gonna Die”. This is a very catchy rocker, even though it does have some silly lyrics. It is a pretty solid way to close out this album.
Overall, I am very pleased with Slash’s new album. There are a ton of great tunes on this CD on this disc, and it seems to get better with every listen. Don’t miss out on this CD! You can preview the songs at Slash’s website at this link.

3 Alter Bridge Finishes Third Album, Possible September Release
Hello Alter Bridge Nation,
We are pleased to inform you that the recording of our third album has been completed. It was an amazing journey and we believe that the songs that we have created are our most inspired and dynamic work to date. We all worked very hard on these songs, over a long period of time, and we are all fiercely proud of what we have recorded. We have played some of the rough mixes of the songs to a few of our “trusted ears” and they are telling us that we have absolutely topped the Blackbird album. The true test will come when we get to hear what all you fans think and we are very much looking forward to that day
The next step in the process will be mixing, which will begin in mid-April, in New York. The mixing will probably take a few weeks and once that is finished, we will begin the difficult task of deciding which songs will make the album. The goal is to release the album in September, before our planned October tour in Europe that will start in the UK. Stay tuned here for the latest news and updates as they happen
Keep Rocking,
Alter Bridge

0 Myles Kennedy to Perform Live Acoustic Set at Billboard Live! Hard Rock Café Party
Alter Bridge Lead Singer Confirmed as Keynote Speaker at Billboard’s Mobile Entertainment Live!
Myles Kennedy, front man for melodic power rockers Alter Bridge, has been confirmed as a headline performer and keynote speaker for Billboard’s Mobile Entertainment Live! October 6th Fall 2009 Conference, presented by Logic Wireless. Mobile Entertainment Live! at Int’l CTIA WIRELESS I.T. & Entertainment, taking place this week at the San Diego Convention Center.
In association with Rockpit.com, the new music website dedicated to all things rock, Kennedy will perform a live acoustic set at the Billboard Mobile Entertainment Live! Party at Hard Rock,San Diego. He also will preview, to the invite-only crowd of press and industry executives, the soon-to-be-released Alter Bridge Live in Amsterdam DVD, directed and produced by award-winning director Daniel E. Catullo III and DC3 Global Music, LLC.
Kennedy and Alter Bridge have emerged as rock music game-changers, building a loyal fan base both stateside and internationally through unconventional viral and digital marketing. The band’s creative digital and mobile outreach have been paramount to their rapid rise, allowing them to connect with their fans in a more authentic and meaningful way.
“Our world is changing right before our eyes,” says Kennedy. “The only way to truly stay connected and relevant to our fans everywhere is to take it straight to where they are – on their mobile phones. We realize we’ve got to do more than just be on iTunes and YouTube. To really connect, you have to be a part of everyday lives – accessible and real.”
Kennedy is one of the most sought after rockers of the digital generation. His singer-songwriter prowess and four octave vocal range earned him a place opposite Mark Wahlberg and Jennifer Aniston in the 2001 film Rock Star, directed by George Clooney. Credited with intensely resonating vocals influenced by the greats of jazz and R&B, Kennedy also has been courted by Velvet Revolver, the members of Led Zeppelin, and Creed. In 2004, Kennedy teamed up with three former members of Creed to form Alter Bridge.
In a rare speaking appearance, Kennedy also will join Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy and Billboard Editorial Director Bill Werde on stage to discuss how the music industry can best use mobile technology and devices to keep fans engaged.
“We’re excited to have a musician of Myles Kennedy’s notoriety keynoting and performing live at Mobile Entertainment Live! this year,” said Antony Bruno, Executive Director of Content & Programming, Digital/Mobile, at Billboard. Billboard’s Mobile Entertainment Live! Fall 2009, kicking off the CTIA festivities Oct. 6, 2009 at the Omni Hotel in San Diego, will explore how today’s advanced mobile devices and applications have revolutionized the music industry, and will examine how artists, promoters and managers are using them to promote and profit in new ways.

11 Myles Kennedy – The New Lead Singer of Led Zeppelin?!
The following article was posted on Blabbermouth this after noon:
TWISTED SISTER frontman Dee Snider, whose manager apparently also works with Robert Plant, has told MuchMoreMusic’s Matt Wells that LED ZEPPELIN members Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonhman have tapped ALTER BRIDGE singer Myles R. Kennedy to sing with them on the road tour if Plant refuses to join them for the much-rumored ZEPPELIN reunion tour. “They’re saying [to Robert], ‘We’re all rehearsed, we’re ready to go, here’s a gazillion dollars on the table,” Snider told MuchMoreMusic. “If you don’t do it, we’re going out with this kid. And he can sing the shit out of ZEPPELIN.’ And they’re gonna, like, hope that Robert, at the last minute, will go, ‘OK,’ and step in, before having the lead singer of ALTER BRIDGE out with John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Jason Bonham.”
A short video clip of Snider talking to MuchMoreMusic about the possibility of Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonhman touring with ALTER BRIDGE singer Myles R. Kennedy can be found at this location.
Plant recently shot down reports that he has signed on to team up with LED ZEPPELIN for a reunion tour. In a message posted on his web site, the singer said that he had no road plans after his recent tour with Alison Krauss, which wrapped on October 5 in Saratoga, Florida.
The message read in part: “Robert has no intention whatsoever of touring with anyone for at least the next two years. Contrary to a spate of recent reports, Robert Plant will not be touring or recording with LED ZEPPELIN. Anyone buying tickets online to any such event will be buying bogus tickets.”
Plant himself was quoted as saying, “It’s both frustrating and ridiculous for this story to continue to rear its head when all the musicians that surround the story are keen to get on with their individual projects and move forward. I wish Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham nothing but success with any future projects.”
Page, Jones and Bonham have reportedly been rehearsing with a series of other vocalists, including Kennedy. There has been no official announcement as to whether the band is planning to tour or record together without Plant’s involvement.
HRH Comment: I like Alter Bridge a lot, and I think Myles Kennedy is a pretty good singer. Is Led Zeppelin a little too big for Mr. Kennedy?! It wouldn’t be the first major band to replace their lead singer (i.e. Van Halen, AC/DC, Motley Crue), and it certainly won’t be the last. While I don’t think this lineup will work, this would hopefully be the final straw to get Robert Plant to agree to do the reunion tour.
Here is Myles Kennedy in his brief moment in the movie, Rockstar.
