Multi-instrumentalist ARJEN LUCASSEN has posted a new video for the track “Pink Beatles in a Purple Zeppelin,” taken from his recently released concept solo album, Lost In The New Real. The video was mainly shot where ARJEN grew up, near the sea in Holland. In regards to the video, ARJEN comments: “It’s a very ‘Dutch’ clip, windmills and all! So you could say this clip goes back to my roots, also musically. It features many visual links (at least 10!) to the bands and albums that I grew up listening to. Peace, man!”
Featuring artwork created by ARJEN and renowned designer Claudio Bergamin, plus an appearance by legendary actor Rutger Hauer as the album’s narrator, Lost In The New Real is a double-CD that tells the story of Mr. L, a 21st century man who was cryo-preserved at the moment of clinical death from a terminal disease. The album begins as Mr. L is being revived at a point in the distant future, when technology has advanced enough to cure his disease. Mr. L finds himself in a world that has drastically changed — to the point that the line between what’s real and what’s not is no longer clear.
The tracks on disc 1 follow Mr. L’s emotional journey as he is confronted with both serious and comical aspects of the “New Real” and desperately tries to decide if he can find a meaningful place within it. Disc 2 is a mix of tracks that are part of the concept but didn’t fit on disc 1, plus cover songs related to the concept.
The track-listing for this epic concept album is as follows:

New Album CRYSTAL EYE
All-Star Line Up – feat. singer Leon Goewie with Chris Slade (ex- AC/DC) Keri Kelli (ex- Alice Cooper) & Chris Glen (ex- MSG)
Release Date: February, 27th 2012
Dutch rock legend Vengeance is back with a musical bang: almost three years after their most recent studio album “Soul Collector”, their latest recording “Crystal Eye” is ready for release and is set to delight all fans of the band’s straightforward, timeless hard rock. Vocalist Leon Goewie promises eleven haunting new songs which forge an arch between the group’s glorious past – documented by the return of the legendary band logo from the cult recordings “We Have Ways To Make You Rock” and “Take It Or Leave It” – and their future-oriented present.
“Crystal Eye” will be out on 27 February 2012 (Germany: 24 February, USA/Canada: early March) on Steamhammer/SPV. Goewie comments the worldwide collaboration with the german Hanover based label enthusiastically: “We are proud that we have signed with SPV/Steamhammer. We finally found our home and together we have many ways to make the fans rock!”
Olly Hahn, A&R at Steamhammer/SPV, is equally delighted: “I was always a fan of the band and now they are part of the SPV family, which is fantastic. The new album rocks big time and will bring a huge smile on the face of every fan!”
The album’s sensational all-star cast is just as spectacular as the new material: alongside original vocalist Leon Goewie, “Crystal Eye” features drummer Chris Slade (ex- AC/DC), guitarist Keri Kelli (ex- Alice Cooper), bassist Chris Glen (ex- Michael Schenker Group), and guest guitarist Timo Somers (son of Vengeance guitarist Jan Somers, who sadly passed away in January 2011). “More than ever before, this is a band which consists of friends,” comments Goewie, whose excellent reputation as an exceptional vocalist made this impressive line-up possible: Goewie, Slade, Glen and Kelli also form the nucleus of AC/DC cover band Chris Slade`s Steel Circle who rock the popular clubs whenever their time allows it.
“Crystal Eye” was produced by Michael Voss, who composed most of the songs in collaboration with Goewie. The title track was penned by former Vengeance guitarist Arjen Lucassen (Ayreon, Star One), and Tony Martin (ex- Black Sabbath) contributed ‘Whole Lotta Metal’ tailor-made for Goewie and Vengeance. The album closes with the instrumental ‘Jan`s End Piece’ which features the last guitar solos recorded by Jan Somers before his unexpected death.
“I’ve listened to the new tracks a couple of times now and consider this the most professional album I’ve ever done,” says Goewie proudly, adding: “The fun and humour which are typical of Vengeance are all there on “Crystal Eye”, but in addition, the material is perceptibly more serious, which I feel really suits Vengeance mark 2012.”
Goewie & Co. will schedule a tour featuring their illustrious album line-up for March/April 2012.

Composer and multi-instrumentalist ARJEN LUCASSEN has firmly established himself worldwide as driving force in progressive rock. While best known for his rock opera project AYREON, the multi-talented Dutchman also regularly embarks on musical side projects, which explore different aspects of Lucassen’s musical personality. As his previous project (GUILT MACHINE’s “On This Perfect Day” 2009) was a relatively relaxed and subtle affair, LUCASSEN’s muses responded by urging him to record something loud, heavy and anything but subtle for this new release. Thus it was a perfect opportunity to launch his musical spacecraft towards the galaxy of bombastic sci-fi rock by revisiting his STAR ONE project.
The result is the album “Victims of the Modern Age,” the follow-up to the STAR ONE debut album, “Space Metal” (2002). Compared to “Space Metal,” the overall sound of “Victims Of The Modern Age” is darker, heavier, more guitar-oriented, and slightly less “spacey”. ARJENhas also raised the bar significantly when it comes to the album’s sound: “I think it’s my best sounding album to date; it’s a huge difference compared to the first STAR ONE. For the guitars I spent weeks experimenting with different amps and settings in every combination imaginable — and it was worth it. The drums sound fantastic, and the vocalists all outdid themselves, putting in even stronger performances than they did the first time around.”
“Victims Of The Modern Age” will be released on InsideOut Music in North America on October 26th . With its stellar musicianship, strong melodies, meticulous production and compelling concept, STAR ONE “Victims of the Modern Age” is yet another exciting project from one of rock’s great visionaries. Please check ARJEN’S VIDEO MESSAGE presenting cast of lead vocalists and the concept of “Victims Of The Modern Age” featuring
Russell Allen (Symphony X)
Damian Wilson (Headspace, Threshold)

GUILT MACHINE Unleashes New Album In The USA
ON THIS PERFECT DAY To Release September 29th on Mascot Records USA
Arjen Lucassen creates the new prog rock project GUILT MACHINE. The band releases ON THIS PERFECT DAY September 29th on Mascot Records USA. The album will be released in three formats. Regular Edition of CD in jewel case, Special edition of CD/DVD Digipak and a limited edition CD/DVD Digibook.
“In my view this is my best side project so far,” explains Lucassen. “It comes completely from the heart, for it was written and recorded during a new inspiring phase in my life after my heavy depression. This, being an entirely new project, there were no expectations whatsoever, which enabled me to just let my inspiration guide me without any (outside) pressure.”
As AYREON fans have come to expect from Arjen, the music of GUILT MACHINE ranges from dark and heavy to atmospheric and melancholic. But GUILT MACHINE introduces some new twists as well, particularly when it comes to the vocals. Rather than putting together an ensemble cast of vocalists from the prog, rock and metal scene, Arjen has enlisted the talents of a single alternative rock vocalist, Jasper Steverlinck.
How did Arjen get an alternative rock vocalist to switch genres and sing on a prog rock project? “In the beginning, it was hard to convince Jasper to sing on this album, because he comes from a completely different musical background,” Arjen said. “He didn’t even know what prog was, but we’ve made a believer out of him! What I admire about Jasper‘s voice, besides its beautiful clear timbre, is the emotion and credibility he puts into his performance and his enormous range. Because this project features just one singer I needed someone versatile enough to portray all of the different moods, and Jasper didn’t disappoint. And he’s a really nice and dedicated guy as well!”
For GUILT MACHINE, Arjen also chose to record with a different drummer, Chris Maitland (ex-PORCUPINE TREE). “Chris was the ideal choice this time, having both the power for the heavy sections and the subtle touch needed in the more atmospheric parts,” Arjen said.
Rather than the explicit storyline you would expect in an AYREON release, the songs of GUILT MACHINE revolve around a central theme. Instead of looking outward into a world of fantasy or science fiction, the songs look inward, exploring the destructive psychology of guilt, regret and the darkest form of secret — the secrets we hide from ourselves.
“At first I asked my partner and personal manager Lori to quickly write scratch lyrics for one of the songs so I could record some guide vocals,” Arjen said. “I was so impressed by what she produced that I asked her to write the lyrics for all the songs. I was unable myself to create the type of darkly enigmatic, open-ended lyrics I wanted for these songs, my specialty being sci-fi lyrics about sinister aliens. She definitely gave the songs an extra dimension with her lyrics, exorcising the demons we both had faced in the past few years. It’s also no secret that I’ve always been a big fan of her melodic guitar style, so she also plays all the guitar solos on this album.”
Despite these differences, GUILT MACHINE still has much in common with AYREON. The songs are mainly long, “epic” tracks that feature dynamic contrasts between softer, dreamy sections and powerful, heavy passages. There are intricate harmonies, complex rhythms, soaring melodies, and an eclectic selection of instruments — all what you’d expect from an AYREON release.
