0 Disturbed – The Lost Children (2011)

After a decade of music, and five albums to their credit, Disturbed has amassed a good bunch of “b-sides”, rarities, cover tunes. The band has finally put them all on one album, The Lost Children,  for their fans to enjoy.

Some of the songs on The Lost Children are better than the majority of the tunes on Disturbed’s previous release, Asylum, but some I can also see why some tunes were b-sides.

The album opener “Hell” is pretty good, and one of the better tunes on the album.  I could live the rest of my life without hearing “A Welcome Burden” again. This former b-side from The Sickness probably should have stayed in the Disturbed vaults. “This Moment” was originally on the CD, Transformers: The Album.  It is a solid tune, but not one of my favorites.

“Run” and “Parasite” are both b-sides from my favorite Disturbed album, Indestructible.  Both songs have that classic Disturbed sound with with David Draiman’s chant like vocal delivery.

The album’s only unreleased tune “Mine” has a creepy intro that would be right at home in a Saw movie. It is an interesting listen with its intertwined news audio clips. I completely understand why this wasn’t released before now though.  It just doesn’t seem to fit in with Disturbed’s previous releases.

The Lost Children concludes with two back to back cover tunes.  Disturbed blasts out faithful versions of Faith No More’s “Midlife Crisis” and Judas Priest’s “Living After Midnight”.  They do a good job on both songs, but don’t really add any Disturbedism’s to the songs.

With Disturbed taking a well deserved break in their touring and recording schedule, The Lost Children may be the last Disturbed release to hit the streets for a few years.

The Lost Children stands up as a decent follow up to Asylum, and is worth picking up if you are one of the Disturbed.

“We are honored that Rock On The Range has asked us be one of the headliners,” says M Shadows of Avenged Sevenfold. “Not only is it an amazing show to be apart of, but it holds a deep spot in our hearts. 0 Monster Energy Music As A Weapon V Tour” Featuring Co-Headliners Disturbed and Korn Add Second Leg in March Due to Demand

The Two Acts Vow to Bring Big Show With Full Production on Extensive Forty-Five City Trek of Secondary Markets; Early Ticket Buyers to Receive $5 Discount on the First 1,000 Tickets Sold From Each Show
As announced last month, Korn and Disturbed, two of rock’s biggest acts, are teaming up to co-headline this year’s “Monster Energy Music As A Weapon V Tour.” With the first half of dates on sale now and off to a scorching start, the highly successful Monster Energy’s MAAW V Tour has added even more dates and new markets: a second leg from March 8th through March 30th that will include stops in Las Vegas, Texas, the West Coast and many more.

Jonathan Davis of Korn and David Draiman of Disturbed on how the 45 city trek across America came about:

“We’ve both just finished great tours. We headlined Mayhem and Disturbed headlined Uproar. The Disturbed guys came out to see us play in Chicago and we got to talking about doing something together. We both agreed that as cool as those types of tours are, they usually only hit major markets, and we both agreed that a lot of our fans just don’t live in those cities- so we thought it would be cool to team up, put a big show together, and hit every great place that those big tours never get to. Besides all that, with us and Disturbed together, doing full shows with full production… all I can say is IT’S ON!” said the excited Korn frontman.

“We are thrilled to launch the Monster Energy Music As A Weapon V Tour with our good friends from Korn,” says Disturbed singer David Draiman. “Every year we try to up the ante, and this year, by having Korn co-headline, we really think it’s going to be our best tour yet. When the idea first came up, one of the main things both bands agreed upon and wanted to focus on was hitting a lot of smaller markets. It’s exciting to bring a show like this to cities that are usually skipped over on some of the other larger rock tours that only hit the major markets. We have a lot of loyal fans in these cities and we wanted to bring them a show that they deserve.”

Tickets for the first leg of the tour are on sale now and tickets for select dates on the second leg go on sale this weekend. The bands have decided that the first 1,000 tickets from each show will be sold at a $5 discount during the on-sale weekend to reward early ticket-buying fans.

“A lot of promoters only offer discounted tickets a day or two before the actual show date. We wanted to do something for the fans that are buying their tickets as soon as they go on sale. To offer a discount upfront made the most sense to us,” adds Disturbed guitarist Dan Donegan.

“We’re tired of promoters offering discounted tickets to last minute folks in order to sell the seats in the back of the gig. We’d rather give our fans a discount for buying early,” said Korn guitarist James “Munky” Shaffer.

On August 31st, 2010, Disturbed released their fifth studio album Asylum, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard album chart. Asylum is the band’s fourth consecutive studio album to debut at No. 1, a feat achieved by only two other rock groups in history: Metallica and the Dave Matthews Band. An international hit with Top 10 chart bows across the globe, Asylum has earned critical praise from USA Today, which called it “a tight, sharp-riffed ride… the combo of aggressive roar and guitar grace recalls Metallica’s finest moments,” and the New York Daily News, which declared “On Asylum, Disturbed finely weigh power and delicacy, catchiness and punch. The subtle variety of the band’s tunesmanship, and the buoyancy of their rhythms make this hard group so easy to love.”

Over the last 16 years, Korn have established themselves as one of the biggest bands in the history of hard rock and metal, selling over 30 million albums worldwide. Their latest album, Korn III: Remember Who You Are, released on Roadrunner Records, debuted at #2 on the Billboard charts this year, with Metal Hammer proclaiming that fans would be “wiping away tears of recognition and delight when they blast it for the first, second, and 38th time.”

4 DISTURBED SERVES CEASE & DESIST LETTER TO CAMPBELL COUNTY ATTORNEY JAMES A. DALEY FOR CO-OPTING TWO BAND MEMBERS’ IMAGES ON POLITICALLY MOTIVATED FLYER

  • October 28, 2010
  • by Rob Rockitt
  • · Entertainment · Hard Rock Music · Hard Rock News · Music

Yesterday an attorney for David Draiman and Dan Donegan, of Chicago rock band Disturbed, sent a letter to Campbell County Attorney James A. Daley, based in Newport, Kentucky, ordering him to immediately cease and desist distributing all copies of a flyer printed with photographed images of Draiman and Donegan.

The politically motivated flyer, which attacks Steve Franzen, Daley’s opponent for the County Attorney’s office in the November 2nd election, contains text implying that the individuals in the photos are “criminals” who have engaged in “child pornography, unlawful transactions with minors, assaults on police officers, and drug trafficking.” In addition to photos of Draiman and Donegan, the flyer features photos of members of rock bands Avenged Sevenfold and Stone Sour.
Disturbed’s attorney has demanded that Daley immediately stop distributing the flyer and destroy any remaining copies in his possession.
Over the last two days, the band’s management office has received dozens of phone calls and e-mails from fans in the area who received the flyer, expressing their outrage.
WLWT News 5 in Cincinnati has reported on the flyer and interviewed Daley’s opponent Steve Franzen, who calls it “despicable.” Read the story and watch the News 5 segment here: https://www.wlwt.com/politics/25544680/detail.html.

2 Disturbed – Asylum (2010)

  • · CD Reviews A-H · Entertainment · Hard Rock Music · Hard Rock News · Hard Rock Videos · Music · Video

It is hard for me to believe that two years has gone by since Disturbed’s last album Indestructible. It was Indestructible CD and tour that made a fan of Disturbed, so needless to say, I have been looking forward to Disturbed’s follow-up to that CD. The band’s latest album Asylum is finally here, and has secured yet another #1 spot for Disturbed.  How does Asylum stack up? Read on.

I expected Disturbed to come slammin’ out of the gate with a heavy rocker, so they took me by surprise with the instrumental track “Remnants”.  The track  opens with some moody keyboards, and closes with a cool guitar riff that sounds like a mix between Pantera’s “Cemetary Gates” and the beginning of Great White’s “Save Your Love”. This is a very cool beginning to the song “Asylum”, and an unexpected approach for Disturbed.

“Asylum” is more of what I expected Disturbed to open the album with.  This is a hard-hitting number with the sound that Disturbed is known for.  I have played this song several times and I just can’t get into this.  I have heard Disturbed record many songs like this one, but to me the song “Asylum” is not as good as most of the songs on Indestructible.

I like the song “Infection”, but the lyrics kind of make me chuckle. Every time I hear “the infection must die”  I think to myself, get you some penicillin dude.

Somehow I can see the song “Warrior” showing up on WWE as a theme song for one of the wrestlers.  It is just an ok song in my opinion.

“Another Way To Die” is easily my favorite track on “Asylum”. To me, this song is the most memorable on the album, and features some of the best guitar work from Dan Donegan.

With the song “The Animal”, I can see Disturbed trying to grow in their music.  While not a huge departure from their sound, I can see a few small things that shows some growth with Disturbed. First and foremost David Draiman’s vocals are excellent.  While this song is on the heavy side, the keyboards are a nice touch.  This ought to be the band’s next single in my opinion.

Depending on which version of Asylum you picked up, you album will either close with the song “Innocence” or the bonus track “Leave it Alone”.  “Innocence” is a pretty cool rocker, and a good way for Disturbed to go out swinging. Oddly enough, my CD was supposed to come with the bonus song “Leave it Alone”. After hitting play, and enduring a minute a half of dead silence, a completely different song appeared. Disturbed covered the U2 song, “I Still Have’s Found What I’m Looking For”.  This is a more rockin’ version of the classic U2 song.  I have always liked Disturbed’s take on the some of the big 80 hits.  This one is easily as solid as some of their previous covers.

I have given Asylum several spins, and I don’t think this album is as strong as their previous releases.  I can see this CD as being a grower, but the songs just haven’t stuck with me as of yet. Asylum isn’t a bad album, and I would recommend checking out the videos below to hear a couple of the tracks from  the CD. Disturbed  fans will probably enjoy Asylum.

  • · Entertainment · Hard Rock Music · Hard Rock News · Music

Disturbed have just announced the title of their upcoming album – “Asylum.” As with Indestructible, Disturbed are self-producing Asylum, which they began writing in September 2009 and recording in February of this year. David Draiman describes it as “still identifiably Disturbed, but showing more maturation. We feel this is one of the strongest bodies of work we’ve ever put together. It definitely goes in familiar areas, but with new levels of precision and skill.”

Lyrically, Draiman says, the themes “range from very personal and introspective to the political and provocative. What would you expect? No songs about puppy dogs or rainbows here.”

“We want this record to be a shining example of how the years have made us stronger,” Draiman says. “We want it to be a record that helps people get through their own trials and tribulations, as always.”

2 Hard Rock Hideout’s Top 5 Concerts of 2008!

  • January 2, 2009
  • by Rob Rockitt
  • · Entertainment · Hard Rock Music · Hard Rock News · Hard Rock Videos · Music · Video

In 2008, I think I attended a record number of live shows. In no order, I saw the following artists: The Bulletboys, Joey Belladonna, Van Halen, AC/DC, The Answer, Bang Tango, L.A. Guns, Faster Pussycat, Hinder, Rev Theory, Trapt, Papa Roach, Buckcherry, Motley Crue, Poison, Sebastian Bach, Dokken, Airbourne, Theory of a Deadman, Disturbed, Slipknot, Endeverafter, Stonerider, RATT, Jackyl, Pop Evil and more.

Hopefully 2009 will be as good as 2008 from a live perspective!

The following are my favorites of 2008!

joeleste

5. Bang Tango, L.A. Guns and Faster Pussycat

Ok, so none of these bands have their original lineups anymore.  Does that mean that they rock less?  Absolutely not. Bang Tango kicked ass. Marty Casey proved to be a good front man for the the Tracii Guns version of L.A. Guns, and Faster Pussycat was still sleazy as ever.

dsc04438

4. Stonerider, Endeverafter and Airbourne

This was my first Airbourne experience, and I will never forget it.  Stonerider and Endeverafter kicked ass too.
A great show for a mere $10.00.

dsc06014

3. Mayhem Festival

At this show the bands that I caught live were Black Tide, Five Finger Death Punch, Airbourne, Dragonforce, Disturbed and Slipknot.
I got to meet the guys in Dragonforce and Airbourne at this show.  This was my first time seeing Slipknot live. A crazy day and some great live shows!

nikkisixxcruefest

2. Cruefest

I am biased, but I love seeing Motley Crue live.  They may not be the best band in the world, but they do put on one of the best live shows. Buckcherry, Sixx A.M. and Papa Roach were all great too!

AC/DC

1. AC/DC with The Answer

Even though my seats were terrible, this show was excellent, and I enjoyed every minute of it. I loved getting to see The Answer for the first time. AC/DC puts on one the biggest and loudest live shows that I have ever seen. Awesome!

13 Hard Rock Hideout’s Top 15 of 2008

  • December 27, 2008
  • by Brian Basher
  • · Entertainment · Hard Rock Music · Hard Rock News · Music

As good as 2007 was for new releases, 2008 blew it away.  At the beginning of the year, I don’t think anyone expected to have new releases by AC/DC, Metallica and Guns N’ Roses all in the same year.

This year Rocknrollcoastie joined the HRH team and I asked him to submit his picks for 2008 as well.  This way you get a double dose of the The 15 Albums from Hard Rock Hideout.

The following are Rob Rockitt’s Top Picks for 2008!

gunsnroseschinesedemocracy1

15. Guns N’ Roses – Chinese Democracy

What’s this?  Have I lost my mind?  When Chinese Democracy came out, I expected Hell to Freeze over. Much like many of you, I didn’t expect this album to ever see the light of day, much less in 2008. I didn’t give this album the best review when it was released. After the first couple of listens, I didn’t like it very much.  Lets face it, this more like the Axl Rose Project than a true Guns N’ Roses CD.  There is no Slash, no Izzy, No Duff. The album has very few sounds that resemble the old band that once cranked out some awesome hard rock.

I didn’t give up on this album and kept it in my playlist.  After a couple of weeks of repeat plays, I have warmed up to this disc. Sure it doesn’t sound like the old band, but there is some pretty good music to be found if you give this the proper chance.

untitled

14. Thunder – Bang!

When Rocknrollcoastie reviewed this CD earlier this year, I previewed all of the clips, then quickly purchased the CD.  I have liked Thunder since their Backstreet Symphony CD, and this disc is on par with that one in my opinion. It is a great sounding bluesy hard rock disc  Buy it!

jadedsungypsytripxlarge

13.  Jaded Sun – Gypsy Trip

Ireland’s latest rock act delivers the goods with their excellent debut CD, Gypsy Trip.  I have been playing this CD a lot as of late. I think you will be hearing a lot more about these guys in 2009.

BlackTideLFA

12. Black Tide – Light From Above

Somebody must have forgotten to give the young men in Black Tide a calendar.  These guys rock like is 1988.  You have to love it when a new band can reproduce that classic 80’s metal sound.  Light From Above is a great debut for these Florida rockers.

shinedownthesoundofmadness

11. Shinedown – The Sound of Madness

I have never been a huge Shinedown fan, but this CD changed my mind. “The Sound of Madness” is the first Shinedown CD that I could listen to all the way through without wanting to skip a track or two.  I like all of the songs on this disc.  This is a very solid record, and one of 2008’s nice surprises.

JORNLonely

10. JORN – Lonely Are the Brave

Jorn Lande has been bringing us great new hard rock every year for several years now.  Whether it is a solo CD, or another project he is working on, you can always expect Jorn Lande to be fairly consistent.  Lonely Are The Brave is a little darker than most JORN CD’s but is a very good disc.  Take one listen to the songs “Night City”, “Shadow People” or the very Black Sabbath with Dio like tune, “Soul of the Wind”, and you are bound to love this disc.

deathmagnetic

9. Metallica – Death Magnetic

This album has divided fans with its sound, but I thought this was a pretty good disc from Metallica.  Sure, this disc doesn’t live up to their classic thrash metal from the 80’s, but at least they gave it their best shot.  They should take notes from Testament next time around.

testamentformationofdamnation

8. Testament – The Formation of Damnation
In my opinion, Testament one upped Metallica for best Thrash album of 2008. Heavy and killer! No thrash metal fan should be without this.

motleycruesola

7. Motley Crue – Saints of Los Angeles

With S.O.L.A. Motley Crue turned in their best album since Dr. Feelgood.  This one is still in heavy rotation in my play list today.

disturbed-indestructible

6. Disturbed – Indestructible

From the opening air raid sirens of Indestructible, you can almost tell immediately that you are about to take in one excellent album. In my opinion, this is Disturbed’s best work ever. The songs on this disc have an excellent heavy groove, that will satisfy the majority of headbangers out there.  There are a ton of awesome guitar licks on this disc by Disturbed axeman Dan Donegan.  Disturbed even got nominated for a Grammy for their song, “Inside The Fire”.  Don’t miss this!

alicecooperalongcameaspider

5. Alice Cooper – Along Came A Spider

Alice Cooper is an artist that has always been hit or miss with me.  When I first read about the new concept album, “Along Came A Spider”, I rolled my eyes and dismissed this disc as another Alice Cooper album that would not deliver.  Boy was I wrong!  “Along Came A Spider” is one of the better Alice Cooper releases.  The story behind this disc is creepy and cool.  Slash plays on a track, and this is probably the only place you will hear Ozzy Osbourne playing a harmonica.  Cool stuff!

blackstonecherryfolkloreandsuperstition

4. Black Stone Cherry – Folklore and Superstition

Black Stone Cherry has been one of my favorite newer hard rock acts, since 2006 or so. Folklore and Superstition wasn’t quite as heavy as their debut, but is still as solid as ever. “Blind Man”, “Soulcreek”, “Please Come In” and “The Bitter End” are as good as it comes.

whitesnakegoodtobebad

3. Whitesnake – Good To Be Bad

David Coverdale nearly pulled an Axl Rose, by making us wait so long for this new disc. While Good To Be Bad isn’t as good as ’84’s “Slide It In”, or the fabled self titled album from 1987, it is a return to the sound that Whitesnake fans love, and easily one of the top discs of 2008.  Doug Aldrich could be the best guitarist to take the stage with Coverdale since John Sykes.  Don’t believe me?  Give this one another listen!

black-ice

2. AC/DC – Black Ice

I am sure a lot of folks will disagree with me, but I think “Black Ice” is the best new AC/DC CD since “The Razor’s Edge”.  Some of the songs on this disc may go down as AC/DC classics.

1. Tesla – Forever More

tesla-forever-more

Tesla is a band that rarely disappoints me.  If you have ever seen my Last FM playlist, you know I play the hell out of this band.  Tesla’s 2004 CD “Into The Now” was probably my least favorite out of all of Tesla’s releases.  With that being said, it made Tesla’s CD Forever More sound that much better. I like every song on this disc, and I never grow tired of listening to it.  This is easily one of the best discs that the band has releases to date.  For my ears, it was the highlight of 2008!

RocknRoll Coastie’s Top 15 of 2008!

Man! What an amazing year both musically and personally. With releases from bands like Motley Crue, White Lion, Dokken, Alice Cooper, & Whitesnake, just to name a few, it felt more like 1988 than 2008. So much great music came out this year and it showed me more than any other year that hard rock is very much alive and well.

Personally it was a great year because I happened to not only stumble across HardRockHideout, which I happen to think is the best hard rock site on the internet. I harassed Rob Rockitt a few times and of all things he invited me to jump on this train that HardRockHideout has become and come along for the journey. Damn what a wild ride it has been so far not only have I made a good friend, I have been introduced to so much new music it is not even funny and let’s face it, it isn’t everyday a person pisses off a whole country but somehow I managed to do just that by giving a Hungarian band a bad review. As wild and crazy as it has been this year I have the feeling it is only going to get better.

When Rob asked me if I wanted to put together my top 15 albums I thought there is no way because there has been so much great music come out in the past year. Then I was faced with do I go with the popular choices loved by the masses or do I stick to my guns and go with the bands and albums that I loved? I decided to go with the bands and albums that I loved this year, I guess I should warn everyone not to expect a lot of big name bands on my list. NOBODY forced me to choose these albums, I chose them of my own free will so love’em or hate’em here they are:

wildhearts-stop-us1

15. The Wildhearts – Stop Us If You’ve Heard This One Before Vol 1

Yeah I know it is a covers album which has almost become a cliche in itself. But this isn’t your everyday run of the mill covers album with songs from Warren Zevon to the Toadies to Fugazi it is a pretty eclectic choice of songs here. To be honest the Wildhearts are probably one of the few bands that could get me to listen to the 90’s alternative music on here.

theoryofadeadmanscars

14. Theory of a Deadman – Scars & Souvenirs

I pretty much spent most of the summer cranking the third release from this Canadian band. Finally out of the shadow of Nickelback the guys really stepped out on their own with Bad Girlfriend, I Hate My Life, & Little Smirk just to name a few.

fromtheinsidevisions

13. From The Inside – Visions

The second release from Danny Vaughn’s Journey inspired project. Tons of great music here including Light Years, Making Waves, Listen To Your Heart, and 21st Century.

bigcockmotherload

12. Big Cock – Motherload

Taking sexual innuedos to a new level Robert Mason and the guys 3rd release simply rocks. I wish these guys would take themselves seriously and go on tour I could guarantee they would be one of the best shows out there. If you haven’t heard Breaking My Balls, Bump and Grind, or M.I.L.F. you are missing out.

hindertakeittothelimit

11. Hinder – Take It To The Limit

I can see most people rolling their eyes at this pick and to be honest when I heard Hinder had a new album coming out I wasn’t expecting much. But the guys put out an album filled with good time party anthems and let’s be honest it is going to be bands like Hinder, Buckcherry, and Nickelback that are going to keep straight up rock in the limelight in the 21st century. Besides what man can resist a video filled with hot Playboy cybergirls??

talonfallenangels

10. Talon – Fallen Angels

This California band came out of nowhere and completely blew me away. Melodic rock at it’s finest, Chandler Mogel is a monster singer with a great voice and Jim Kee is a phenomenal guitarist. Burn, Baby Jane, What About Me, and Always Be My Baby are all great songs.

7thheavenusauk

9.  7th Heaven – U.S.A-U.K.

This is another band that came from out of nowhere and blew me away. From what I understand these Chicago natives have been around for a while but replaced their former singer with Kevin Semple before recording this album and he is an awesome singer. If you are a fan of “Hysteria” era Def Leppard you have to get this album you would be hard pressed to tell the bands apart if you didn’t know the songs.

marcellovestry

8. Marcello/Vestry – Self Titled

Another slab of melodic rock, this time it comes from Danger Danger axeman Rob Marcello and vocalist Frank Vestry, with a little help from Danger Danger’s Bruno Ravel who played bass and produced the record. Great catchy sing along songs like Fireworks, All I Wanna Do Is U, and Gone fill this record. It is exactly what you would expect from members of Danger Danger and I for one am not complaining at all.

houseoflordscometomykingdom

7. House of Lords – Come To My Kingdom

After the fiasco that was the Power & the Myth, James Christian started pretty much from scratch with House of Lords and released World Upside Down in 06. In ’08 the band came back even stronger with Come To My Kingdom dare I say the best HoL album to date. James’ voice still sounds great and Jimi Bell, B.J. Zampa, and Matt McKenna have made the band even stronger. I don’t think there is a weak song on this album.

extremesaudades

5. Extreme – Saudades de Rock –

One of the first albums I reviewed for HRH. 13 years is a long time to wait between albums but honestly I think it was a good thing for the guys in Extreme. They came back stronger than ever with some strong kick ass songs and the addition of Kevin Figueiredo was an awesome decision. I liked this album when it was released but the more I listened to it the more I loved it.

tesla-forever-more

5.  Tesla – Forever More

Four years between new albums also did Tesla a world of good. Forever More is head and shoulders above 04’s Into The Now and like Extreme the addition of guitarist Dave Rude did wonders for the band. I Wanna Live, Just In Case, All of Me, and Pvt Ledbetter are just a few of the stand out tracks on Forever More.

4. There is no number 4 because of a tie for third.

quireboyshomewreckersheartbreakers

3. The Quireboys  – Homewreckers & Heartbreakers (Tie)

One of my all time favorite bands returned in ’08 with a new album their first in 4 years and all I can say is Wow! Homewreckers & Heartbreakers is the best Quireboys album since A Bit of What You Fancy. Bluesy Faces inspired rock at it very best, Spike has never sounded better than he does on this album. Mona Lisa Smiled, I Love This Dirty Town, Louder, and One For The Road are a few of the highlights on this album. In case you didn’t know Spike also released a great solo album titled So Called Friends around the same time definitely worth checking out.

badmouth

3. Badmouth – S/T (Tie)

If I had a song of the year hands down it would be Rivethead by these Swedish ass kickers. Just that one song makes Badmouth’s debut worth the money but on top of Rivethead this album is filled with straight up rock n roll anthems like Pedal to the Metal, Kick It Up, and Cocaine Girl. Throw in a couple of songs like Last Train and Take Your Toothbrush With You that remind me of one of my favorite bands Backyard Babies you have a can’t miss album.

backyardbabiesst

2. Backyard Babies – S/T

This album was my choice for my number 1 for the longest time but it was dethroned when the band at number 1 now released their new album. But this album from Sweden’s finest has everything a great rock record should great sing a long in your face songs, great solos, a hell of a lot of attitude. Degenerated, Come Undone, Nomadic, Abandon, and Back on the Juice are just a few of the ass kickings you have in store when listening to this album.

d-a-d2008

1. D-A-D (Disneyland After Dark) – Monster Philosophy

Is it just me or did Scandinavian bands kick a lot of rock n roll ass this year? Another of my all time favorite bands and I know there may be only one person in the states that agrees with me here but hands down Monster Philosophy is the best album of the year. 22 years and 10 studio albums and still most rock fans in America have no clue who D-A-D are. In one word LEGENDS, this album is filled not only with great songs but great vocals from Jesper Binzer and the sounds Jacob “Cobber” Binzer gets from his guitar are unbelievable. I can’t forget Stig Pedersn on bass or drums by Laust Sonne. While there are albums that may have three great songs and the rest of the album are good songs, on Monster Philosophy there are 13 great songs and each one sounds completely different from the others. Maybe some person at an American record company will pull their head out of the sand and sign D-A-D and get their albums released and re-released here in the states but if they don’t I will keep paying the import price because every one of their albums are worth the money.

1 Sights & Sounds From the Mayhem Festival – Disturbed

  • September 20, 2008

Disturbed was the co-headliner (with Slipknot) at the Indianapolis Mayhem Festival.  This is the second time that I have seen Disturbed live in 2008.  I kind of knew what to expect going into this show, but the last time I saw Disturbed, it was a club show.  This time around they were playing for an estimated 16,000 people.

The first time I saw Disturbed, I was pretty impressed with how the crowd fed off of the band’s energy.  At the Mayhem festival, I was a little more on the concerned side.  My ticket was in the lawn area for the show.  Imagine the 5,000 or so people in the lawn, some of which were drunk, and another large percentage jacked up on their free Rockstar Energy drinks.

The lawn area at the Verizon Wireless Music Center became a frenzied mosh pit of mayhem.  Needless to say their wasn’t too many safe places to stand, but I dug in, wanting to catch Disturbed’s set. I wasn’t going to let this unruly crown ruin my concert experience.

Disturbed’s set list included the following songs: “Perfect Insanity”, “Liberate”, “Just Stop”, “Voices”, “Indestructible”, “Prayer”, “Stupify”, “Criminal”, “Ten Thousand Fists”, “The Game”, “Inside the Fire”, “Stricken”, “Down With the Sickness”. I was glad to see that they included a few songs in their set off of their new album, Indestructible.

Singer, David Draiman is an expert when it comes to getting the crowd charged up.  I don’t think one person was sitting after Disturbed started their set. Dan Donegan must be one of the most under rated guitarists out there.  He impressed me with his playing once again.

Disturbed’s set was pretty good.  I enjoyed the music, and the cool stage set up.  They were better this time than the last time I saw them, and they were very good then too.

I don’t think I took Disturbed seriously enough prior to their new album release.  After seeing two good shows by these guys in 2008, they will always be a draw for me, from now on.

I hope you enjoy the videos below!

Disturbed – Indestructible

Disturbed – Ten Thousand Fists

Disturbed – The Game
