The GYPSY PISTOLEROS have become half Finnish as Harri Pistolero joins on drums!
The English/Finnish Spanglish Flamenco Glam Sleaze Rock n Roll Kings will Tour the U.K., Europe and Scandinavia beginning February 1st till March 14th, 2009.
On March 16th till April the band enter Mighty Atom Recording Studios in Wales to record the new album ‘The Good, The Bad and the Gypsy Pistoleros!’ – due out in May.
The legendary eccentric producer Joe Gibb (Catatonia, Funeral for a friend, The Cure, The Kinks, Travis, etc) is once again handling production.
In early April the band will play the Scandinavian leg of the Tour. In June they return to the U.S.A. for extensive touring and major festivals, including the main stage at the Rock Gone Wild Festival in Algona, Iowa on August 21st.
Kurdt Vanderhoof (guitars) was suffering with his back problems for a long time. After several treatments this summer all looked good so far, but last weekend it got so bad again that his doctor warned him about doing a bigger tour before the problem is solved.
We are very sorry, but better to cancel the tour now, before we are deep in pre-sales and we have to cancel then. We all are very sorry about this, but the health of Kurdt is too important than taking the risk!
We all hope that the doctors are right in giving the hope that after a few months medical treatments it will be OK again without an operation.”
As reported by Billboard.com, with the final leg of Bon Jovi’s “Lost Highway” tour completed, guitarist Richie Sambora tells Billboard.com the New Jersey rock act is looking ahead to plenty of new projects.
“We’ve been filming a documentary and are in the process of mixing a live DVD of last year’s ‘Lost Highway’ concert tour,” Sambora says. “Also, I think we’re looking at doing a greatest hits album next year. Jon and I are writing some new songs for it and to just load up for the next Bon Jovi record.”
Sambora says he expects the DVD and best-of effort to be packaged together for a fall 2009 street date. The Nashville-tinged “Lost Highway” was a critical and commercial success, but Sambora says the band won’t necessarily return to that style again.
“No, we have to change,” he says. “We have to do something different. I don’t know what that’s going to be. As we get into the writing process and continue on, we’ll see what that’s going to look like. I think it comes to stylistically what songs you’re writing. What kind of music is coming out of you, and what’s the mood of those songs. You have to color those little drawings with the right production value and the right music.”
Outside of Bon Jovi, Sambora is staying active with various extracurricular opportunities. Not only did he recently join B.B. King on stage in Chicago for the taping of a PBS special, but he will take part in a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum Tribute Concert for Les Paul Saturday (Nov. 15) at the State Theatre in Cleveland.
“I’ve also been doing multiple sessions out here, some odd recordings with Kid Rock and T.I., some crazy stuff,” Sambora says. “So I’ve been busy. Also, I’m going to be scoring some movies and TV shows. One of the movies is ‘The Tournament’ with Ving Rhames.”
Sambora is also looking ahead to next year, when Bon Jovi will become eligible for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.
“I hope so,” Sambora laughs. “Time flies man, but yeah there’s talk and rumors. Boy that would be nice. It’s something certainly I’ve been shooting for all my life. I think if you have a career in the music business, you want to get inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.”
Big news for fans of 80’s metal… Odin, the classic LA band featuring Armored Saint’s Jeff Duncan, is releasing a new compilation in January 2009. Much of the material on the album has never been available on CD before and all of it has been completely remastered by Roy Z. You know Roy Z… the producer behind recent albums from Judas Priest, Helloween, Halford, Bruce Dickinson, Sebastian Bach and Yngwie Malmsteen. Yeah, that guy!
Not only that, but the CD is now available through a special pre-sale promotion directly through Odin’s Myspace page.
If you order a copy during the pre-sale you pay just $15, plus shipping AND your copy will be autographed by the band. Pre-sale orders will be shipped in mid-January and then it goes on sale though places like CD Baby and iTunes. Now, you can wait until it becomes available through retail, but then your copy won’t be signed and you’ll get it a month after everybody else. Why wait? Seriously, people!
Here are some more details about the music:
– Don’t Take No For An Answer will be included… the first time the entire EP has been available on CD.
– The best tracks from Fight For Your Life, The Gods Must Be Crazy and Caution like “Shining Love”, “The Writer”, “Little Gypsy” and “Twelve O’clock High”.
– Special bonus track “Let The Show Begin”, a brand new song recorded just before the band’s appearance at Rocklahoma 2008.
Oh, I almost forgot… check out the badass album cover. A more modern version of the classic cover for Don’t Take No For An Answer.

White Lion played in Louisville, Kentucky’s Expo Five last Sunday night. This was a free show that neither I, or friend JT from Hard Rock Nights could pass up.
I knew coming into this show that this wasn’t going to be the original White Lion lineup, but that didn’t really matter me. The issues between singer Mike Tramp, and guitarist Vito Bratta are well documented across the internet. It is highly doubtful that the original band will ever reunite. I was hopeful that Tramp’s current band was at least as good as his old one. I was quite curious to see how current White Lion guitarist Jamie Law would handle those awesome Vito Bratta guitar licks.
MIke Tramp has revamped White Lion, and has had different variations of the band together since 1999. The current lineup of Jamie Law, Henning Wanner, Claus Langeskov, and Troy Patrick Farrell has been together since 2005. Bassist EJ Curse (who looks like he could be a sibling of George Lynch) from Silent Rage was filling in on bass for this show.
The set list in no particular order was “Little Fighter“, “Lady of the Valley“, “Lonely Nights“, “El Salvador“, “Broken Heart“, “Wait“, “Hungry“, “When the Children Cry“, the show closer “Radar Love“, “Living on the Edge“, and two new cuts off of White Lion’s new album “Return of the Pride”, “Set Me Free“, and “Dream“.
It has been 25 years since White Lion started as a band, and Mike Tramp’s voice has maybe lost a step or two. He still sounds really good, and songs sound almost exactly the same as they did in the 80’s. Tramp does have a little bit of help in the singing department. Keyboardist Henning Wanner and guitarist Jamie Law sing a lot of the back up vocals, and do a fine job of it.
I am not sure how Mike Tramp found Australian guitarist Jamie Law, but he has managed to attract another very good guitarist to White Lion. Law is a very good technical guitar player, who seemingly handled Bratta’s guitar licks with ease. As a whole, White Lion sounded great. I would definitely go see them again. Hopefully, the dust can settle between Tramp and Bratta so the band can latch onto some summer tours.
Louisville, Kentucky must have been sleeping on Sunday. There was only about 50 people or so in attendance and this show was FREE. Not only that but, there three or four other bands that opened up for White Lion. The venue that the show was held at was EXPO Five. This has to be one of the best new rock clubs in Kentucky. It has a big stage, an awesome sound system, and room for a lot of people. It is a shame that the turn out for this show was so poor.
After the concert Mike Tramp came out and autographed everything that was put in front of him, shook a lot of hands, and took photos with anyone that wanted one. He was extremely cool to all of his fans, and if anything very grateful. He is definitely a class act.
White Lion is very much still a great band, and worth catching live if you can.
The clips below are from the Sunday night show. Enjoy!!
When the Children Cry
Frontiers Records is truly excited to announce the European release of PLACES OF POWER debut album “Now Is The Hour” on January 23rd 2009.
While the Places of Power monicker is brand new, this name hides the brand new collaboration between two superb artists who are no strangers to the concept of hard work and quality music. Bruce Turgon and Philip Bardowell can indeed boast in their pedigree collaborations with such bands and artists as FOREIGNER, SHADOW KING, LOU GRAMM, UNRULY CHILD, MAGDALEN and Peter Criss of KISS.
Both have also released highly regarded solo albums for Frontiers Records during 2005 which gathered excellent reviews and great interests from press and fans alike. “Our collaboration started at the urging of Serafino Perugino, who felt that Bruce and I would work well together”, states singer Philip Bardowell. “I guess Serafino would be the “spark”! The flame was then ignited when Bruce and I started throwing around tunes and discovered that we shared a passion for strong melodies and hooks”. Bruce Turgon also recalls: “Philip came back with powerful ideas and performances that made me feel that we were on the same page – I knew that this would be a strong collaboration from the start. I tend to “live” a record and dwell on every aspect of it, so it was very important to me that we share a common vision, and we have”.
“Now Is The Hour” production process was then started and took some good time to be completed, due to the enthusiasm and care that both Philip and Bruce gave to the album writing and recording. “I love the integrity of this record” continues Bruce, “there are no “and also” tracks – every song is a work of substance”, with Bardowell adding that every track “is also crafted in the “pop” sense and the songs are catchy and accessible”.
With the help of Scott McKinstry who contributed lead guitars to the album, Philip took care of all lead vocals while Bruce played all the backing tracks. The tapes were then sent to famed studio guru Dennis Ward (of Pink Cream 69 and producer of Place Vendome, Sunstorm, Bob Catley, Angra, Krokus etc.) in Germany who mixed the album in the summer 2008.
“We were able to deliver a product that we’re both very proud of” adds Bardowell, while Turgon concludes “this is an album that deserves to be played live. We’ve created a strong foundation for Places Of Power to build upon and everything is possible…”
The result is a jewel, one of those rare releases that gets your attention from the very first to the last second – splendid performances, killer production and marvellous songs: that’s what “Now Is The Hour” is all about !
“Now Is The Hour” final tracklisting includes:
In Your Wildest Dreams; Make Me Believe; Desires of Our Hearts; One Day; I Live For You; Secrets; The Passage; Always; Hard To Love You; Light of My World; Path of Least Resistance; Places of Power – In Your Wildest Dream (bonus videoclip).
Sycamore Meadows, the street where acclaimed musician Butch Walker lived and worked in Malibu, CA has drastically changed as a result of the massive wildfires that destroyed much of the area last November. And like many other Southern California residents, Walker lost his entire house and all his personal possessions in those fires, including his studio and every master recording he’s ever made. But inspiration sometimes comes from tragedy and so it became that this event incited Butch Walker to create music unlike anything he had ever done before. The result is his fourth album entitled Sycamore Meadows, due out on November 11, 2008 (Power Ballad/Stay Platinum/Original Signal). His revered talent shines through on this very personal album and will further prove the staying power of Walker as a solo artist.Always known to change up his musical styles, Butch Walker trades in his smart-glam, David Bowie-Marc Bolan sound heard on the previous solo album – The Rise and Fall of Butch Walker and the Let’s Go Out Tonites (July 2006/Epic) – for a classic and introspective sound highlighting his poignant lyrics and unforgettable melodies on Sycamore Meadows. Walker wrote and produced the entire album resulting in a collection of 12 beautifully constructed songs, delivering the distinct vibe his rabid fans already love him for and which will undoubtedly attract new audiences.
First single “The Weight of Her” is an uptempo, anthemic jam that launches the album while ballad “Ships in a Bottle” slows the mood down. “Ships in a Bottle” will be accompanied by a moving homemade video that documents the remains of his house before it was cleared away. It premiered as a featured video on MySpace Music (http://www.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=videos) during the week of September 17-September 24, 2008. Both tracks are currently available on iTunes. Another standout track, “Here comes The…” features vocals from a soulful and raw Pink. “ATL” is an ode to the city where he grew up featuring lyrics like “Oh Atlanta please need me like I needed you, let your sweaty embrace open wide” while on “Going Back/Going Home” he addresses the fire directly “I finally know the difference between going back and going home.”
Butch Walker has seen nearly six years of success as a solo artist and as front man for Marvelous 3, Butch Walker and The Let’s Go Out Tonites while also producing and writing GRAMMY-nominated and hit songs for countless other artists. But what really sets him apart from other writers and producers is his dedicated fan base as an artist, selling out venues across the country for several years now and even being considered one of the best live performers of his generation.
Butch Walker plans to set out on a full U.S. headline tour in February 2009. In the meantime he’ll be playing the following venues in support of the album: Nectar Lounge, Seattle 10/21; The Loft, Atlanta 11/10; Blender Theatre, New York City 11/13; North Star Bar, Philadelphia 11/14; Maxwell’s, Hoboken 11/15; DC9, Washington D.C. 11/17.

Liverpool-born vocalist/pianist/guitarist Max Morgan is ready to unleash his first single, “Wait For Me,” a confessional, spirited pop-rock anthem from his debut album ‘Interrupting the Silence’ (Chime Entertainment, 3/31/09).
With an athletic build and impeccable fashion sense, 21-year-old Morgan is a rocker with a name and face not easily forgotten. “Wait for Me,” set for digital release November 25th, will make instant fans out of listeners who aren’t among the more than half a million who have already heard his music on MySpace.
Max Morgan learned to play and write music while growing up in cities around the world as the son of a professional soccer player. He played in bands on three continents, developed a passion for performing and decided to try his luck as a solo artist in a new country and a new city: Los Angeles.
The 11 songs on ‘Interrupting the Silence,’ produced by Marc Tanner (The Calling, Aerosmith, Madonna), bring that dream to life, with thoughtful lyrics and strong hooks that linger.
“Wait for Me,” a potent, piano-slaked, up-tempo ballad, finds the nomadic Max Morgan looking for a sense of stability, something permanent: “Standing in the light it shows where I’m broken, / need a little time to know where I’m going / Wait for me, won’t you wait for me.”

Rock now. Rock on. Rock wild.
Former Darkness bass player Richie Edwards took over the lead vocals and Toby MacFarlaine joined the band on bass. The Darkness name was jettisoned, and band carried on under the new name, Stone Gods.
The Darkness got a fair amount of airplay on XM Radio’s The Boneyard over the last couple of years, but they were never a band that I could get into very much. Justin Hawkins vocals were a little over the top, in my opinion. I wasn’t sure what to expect with The Stone Gods, and much to my surprise, I found this new band much more to my liking.
“Silver Spoons & Broken Bones” starts off with a heavy metal rocker, “Burn the Witch.” This song sounds like it is left over from the NWOBHM era.
“Don’t Drink the Water” fuses together a catchy mesh of classic hard rock sounds and that brings bands like The Who to mind. The song fuses together classic rock guitar riffs with a punk rock vibe, and even sprinkles in a dash of reggae. It sounds like a band combination, but this is a really good song.
There are some Black Sabbath like jams on the rocking tune “Defend or Die“. Richie Edwards vocals keep this song from sounding to sludgy, but the metal riffs are well appreciated by this listener. This is one of those songs that you may not get into on the first listen. My recommendation is to play it again a few times. You may grow to appreciate this one as I have.
The Stone Gods show their sense of humor with the tune “You Brought A Knife To A Gun Fight“. This is another catchy upbeat rocker that would not sound out of place on the radio today. The guitar riffs could have been taken right off of any Buckcherry CD, but that is OK. I like this style of rock.
“Magdalen Street” is a mid tempo number that has a mix of southern rock styling and some guitar sounds that would more at home on a Chris Isaak album. It is a good song, but the sound here is completely different from the rest of tunes on this disc up to this point.
“Where You Coming From” is a modern rock tune with a southern rock flair. This is another song that grows on you.
Is is just me, or does “Lazy Bones” sound like a lost Soul Asylum track? I haven’t listened to Soul Asylum for a long time, but this song reminded me of them quite a bit.
“I’m With the Band” and “Wasting Time” both have infectious sing along choruses that will get in your head.
The album closes out with a tongue in cheek rocker “Oh Where ‘O My Beero“. This song sounds like a lost cut from Def Leppard.
It took me several listens to figure out who I thought Richie Edwards sounded like, and I finally figured it out. Remember Tommy Paris from Britny Fox? Edwards has that same raspy vocal style as Paris. The style of music may be different, but the similarities are there.
“Silver Spoons & Broken Bones” mixes together a variety of genres including hard rock, classic rock, heavy metal and alternative. For me, the harder tunes are definitely the best ones on this disc, but less heavy tracks are solid as well. From the songs I have heard from the Darkness, this album does have a different style, and the name change to Stone Gods is quite appropriate. This album joins a crowded list of solid albums in 2008.

I don’t know what is happening in Sweden, but good music must be busting out the country’s seams. It seems like every time I turn around I stumble on another really good band from Sweden. Danger is another band that caught my attention with their new six song EP “First Touch”.
So what does Danger sound like? To me their sound is a cross between Crash Diet and older Motley Crue. The first song on the EP “First Touch” sounds like it could have been on the excellent “Rest In Sleaze” from Crash Diet. This is the first song that I have heard from Danger, and it made me a fan instantly.
“Miss Money” and “California Red” are pretty fun rockers that remind me more of Poison songs, than a Motley Crue ones but I like them nonetheless.
There are days where I would like to crank “Shove It” at maximum value over the speakers in my office. This should be my new theme song. My wife likes this one too.
“On The Run” is a upbeat hair metal anthem, that is as solid of a closing tune as I have heard all year long.
The six songs on First Touch is like getting an awesome appetizer and having the kitchen close before you could order your main course. It will whet your appetite and leave you hungry to hear more. This is Swedish sleaze metal at its finest. Hair metal fans should not hesitate to buy this!

Armed with scarfs, make-up, hairspray, black and bleached hair they were the most outrageous sleaze rock band coming out of Scandinavia in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Nasty Idols released four original albums and was considered as the next groundbreaking Swedish rock act after ABBA, Europe and Roxette. Nasty Idols spectacular on stage antics and their private world of Sex, Drugs and Rock n’ Roll revealed – they sold albums all over the world including U.S.A and Japan. After the break-up 1995 and being apart for more than 10 years the band was re-united with the original members 2006. They did the successful “Rejects On The Road” tour and started to write songs for a new album.
The new Nasty Idols album “Boys Town” was produced by Matti Engdahl and Andy Pierce and will be out in March 2009 on Metal Heaven and contain 12 new original songs.
Singer Andy Pierce comments: “We wanted to write really good tracks for the new album. Right after our last show in Copenhagen 2007 we jumped into the studio. We actually used the whole year of 2008 to write and record. Just like in the old days we just played the songs live and then added stuff. The whole spectrum of Nasty Idols is represented on the new album. The firestarter “Rock Out” is quickly followed by the groovy title track “Boys Town”. We also do real glam antics as the “New York Dolls” smelling “7 Year Itch”. We wanna use the old cliche – that this is our best album ever…but we don’t. We just say; if you’re into our kind of music…you’ll love this one!”
Singer/guitarist/songwriter Terry Glaze (PANTERA) is joined by bassist Kinley “Barney” Wolfe (THE CULT, AMERICAN FUSE), drummer Chris Craig and guitarist Brian Harris (QUEEN FOR A DAY).
They recently recorded their new full length album titled “PORN AGAIN”, mixed by Neil Kernon (QUEEN, HALL & OATES, SEX PISTOLS, PETER GABRIEL, CANNIBAL CORPSE). This is Lord Tracy’s 5th full length CD.

Back in August, Sebastian Bach opened up for Dokken and Poison on the Cincinnati, Ohio stop of Poison’s Live, Raw and Uncut Tour.
This was the second time that I have seen “Metal” Mike Chlasciak and Bobby Jarzombek live. The first time I seen them (in Cleveland, Oh) they were part of Halford (Rob Halford’s solo band). I already new after seeing that show how good these guys were. I was expecting a hell of a show out of these guys, and I was not disappointed.
Sebastian Bach came out and he immediately delivered. He quickly proved that he can still sing and scream with the best of them. “Metal” Mike is one of the better axe slingers playing today. I thought he sounded awesome.
Sebastian Bach’s set included a few new songs off of Angel Down, as well as some Skid Row classics. The set list included the following songs: “Back In The Saddle”, “Slave To The Grind”, “18 & Life”, “American Metalhead”, “Love Is A Bitch Slap”, “Monkey Business”, “I Remember You” and “Youth Gone Wild”.
I thought it was odd that Sebastian Bach was opening for Dokken. I thought they should have had the option for the better sound and lights, but that is just my opinion. Bach’s set was short, but the band made the best of it, and put on a good show.
On the clips below, Sebastian Bach’s voice sounds odd, but we our seats were not the greatest for this show and I don’t think the audio is a fair representation of how he sounded. The clips were still worth sharing. Check them out!
