0 Airless – Fight (2008)

AirlessFight“Fight” is the third release from Bilbao, Spain rockers Airless and for fans of  Firehouse, Mr. Big, Dokken,  Lynch Mob or fans of virtuoso type of players, you should definitely have this album in your collection because guitarist Robert Rodrigo is absolutely amazing on this album. Along with Rodrigo Airless also consist of  Inaki Lazakano (Vocals), Miguel Manjon (Bass), and Pako Martinez (Drums) and while I’m not usually a fan of accents that can be forgiven this time because of the great songwriting and Rodrigo’s playing.

“Don’t Give Up” and “Now or Never” are the first two tracks on “Fight” and these two anthems rock from beginning to end with some great background vocals, catchy melodies and hooks. I would love to hear both of these songs live and once again I can’t stress how awesome Rodrigo’s guitar is, I am definitely a new fan of his playing. “Time To Say Goodbye” is a mid-tempo number that starts out with a nice keyboard intro before picking up steam, radio ready is written all over this song. “Twist of the Wrist” is a full-blown rocker and Pako Martinez will not be outshined by anyone on this track, phenomenal drumming from him. Another radio ready rocker “Crying For Your Love” is just short of perfection definitely the best track on the album. “Switch Off The Light” is a dirty little rocker with a touch of sleaze and some great thumping bass from Miguel Manjon, really reminds me of Firehouse. “Suffering” and “Blame (the Darkness Part II) both remind me of early Lynch Mob, particularly “Blame” would have fit perfectly on the first Lynch Mob album. “One Last Kiss” also makes a strong bid for album favorites great rocker once again reminiscent of Firehouse.

When comparing “Fight” with the first two releases from Airless the songwriting is light years ahead on “Fight”. Check out http://www.myspace.com/airlessrock or if you read Spanish you can go to http://www.airless.es to learn all about Airless.

Fight K5If you are going stir crazy, waiting for the new Judas Priest, Nostrodamus CD to come out, never fear.

Rob Halford is opening up his archives, to give you a release with some demos and previously unreleased tunes from his stint in his band, Fight.

Chances are, if you are a Fight fan, you may have most of the songs on this disc. If you don’t, this is disc worth grabbing.

Into the Pit, and Nailed to the Gun are awesome tunes. If you haven’t picked up a Fight disc, those tunes are a must own for metal fans. The new songs, Now You Die, Forbidden, Down, Beast Denies, and Dead Men Talk are all solid tunes.

Some of the demo cuts are in fairly raw form complete with errors, which make this an interesting, if not essential listen. Rob Halford fans will be quick to grab this one. All others ought to give this one a look.

0 Halford – Metal God Essentials Vol 1. (2007)

Halford Metal GodRob Halford has taken control of his music, and has released Metal God Essentials Vol.1 on his own label, Metal God Entertainment.

You are probably asking, why on earth would a disc released in 2007 be in a Rare Rock Rewind segment?! My copy was a numbered edition that was autographed by the Metal God, Rob Halford. By the time you are reading this, the 5000 limited edition autographed copies will be sold out.

Metal God Essentials is a pretty cool package. The version IRRRsmall5 received came with a bonus CD, and a DVD with promo clips, behind the scenes and live performances in a nice digipak.

This CD is filled with cuts from the first two Halford releases Resurrection and Crucible, a few tracks from Rob’s former band Fight, as well as a couple of new cuts Forgotten Generation and Drop Out.

Metal God Essentials is full of quality cuts. If you don’t own any of Rob Halford’s music outside of Judas Priest, this is a great way to pick up some of the best tunes he ever did.

If Rob Halford continues to put out quality releases like this one, I will certainly be picking up more releases from his label as they arrive. If you are a Rob Halford or Judas Priest fan, you need to pick this up! Highly Recommended!
