0 FILTER TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM ‘THE TROUBLE WITH ANGELS” IN AUGUST

DEBUT SINGLE ‘THE INEVITABLE RELAPSE’ IMPACTING RADIO JUNE 21st

Track listing confirmed

Platinum rock band, Filter will release their fifth studio album, The Trouble With Angels this August on Rocket Science Ventures.  Fans of the band’s Short Bus and Title of Record will be ecstatic to hear Richard Patrick return to his industrial roots.

Rocket Science owner Kevin Day says, “I have known Richard for a good while and have been a fan of his music and the Filter ‘sound’ since their first release. The Trouble With Angels is exciting because it’s a strong return to the sonically dark jet engine growl that Filter invented and defined.”

Produced by Bob Marlette (Black Sabbath, Atreyu, Saliva) the album’s debut single, ‘The Inevitable Relapse,’ features thundering chords and an isolated bass line that both conjure and modernize Filter’s signature sound.  “People think  ‘The Inevitable Relapse’ is about addiction, consumption, and obsession, but they’re wrong,” says Richard Patrick. “It’s a love song.” The single will be impacting Active Rock and Alternative radio June 21st.

Filter will  also be releasing a limited edition 7” vinyl single, exclusively for the Record Store Day coalition of stores on July 6th, featuring ‘The Inevitable Relapse” album version and a Rob Patterson 666 re-mix on the B-side.

Richard Patrick has taken Angels to the next level both lyrically and musically, employing some of the best in the business for the upcoming tour. The live band features Patrick on vocals and guitar, guitarist Rob Patterson (Korn, Otep), bassist Phil Buckman and longtime Filter drummer, Mika Fineo.

HRHLiveNickelback

Earlier this year, I saw Saving Abel, Seether and Nickelback live.  My wife is a Nickelback fan, and I honestly thought I was taking one for the team by going to see this show.  My wife goes to see quite a few bands that she doesn’t care for, so I definitely owe her a bunch.

I like Saving Abel and Seether well enough.  In fact, I saw Seether just a few days prior to this show.  This was my first time to see Nickelback live, and I must say, I was pretty surprised by their show.  It was like an old school 80’s rock concert. This band often takes a bad rap, but I enjoyed their show, and wouldn’t hesitate to go see them again.

I was able to capture a few clips from the show, including Nickelback’s performance of the Filter song,”Hey Man Nice Shot” with Seethers, Shaun Morgan.

Enjoy the clips below!

When Filter first hit the music scene, I kind of thought of them as a Nine Inch Nails clone.  Times have changed, and so has the band’s sound, as evident by their 2008 song, “Soldiers of Misfortune”. Check it out below.

2 The Return of Filter!

FiterFILTER is back.

After a five-year hiatus and a successful run with Army of Anyone, RICHARD PATRICK has reclaimed his legacy with FILTER for ANTHEMS FOR THE DAMNED, due out this May.

Produced by Josh Abraham (Slayer, 30 Seconds to Mars, Velvet Revolver, Staind, Courtney Love), PATRICK calls ANTHEMS FOR THE DAMNED his “howl in the night,” a harsh indictment of civilization that doesn’t exclude himself from its vision of a world falling apart.

The album’s first single “Soldiers of Misfortune” will be released later this month. PATRICK describes the soaring anthem–with its U2/Bowie flavor and stacked backdrop of buzzing electric guitars–as a “sardonic anti-war/pro-troops song.” The first-person narrative was inspired by a letter from a FILTER fan who had enlisted in the Army reserves to get his college tuition paid; in his final year of college, he was shipped off to Iraq where he died from a rocket attack and small arms fire after just a few days of duty.

FILTER will preview tracks from ANTHEMS FOR THE DAMNED alongside such FILTER classics as “Hey Man, Nice Shot,” “Take a Picture” and others when they hit the road for special California club shows next month. The band will follow the shows with additional U.S. shows just prior to the album’s release, mixing headlining shows, festival appearances and radio shows.

ANTHEMS FOR THE DAMNED features such collaborators as guitarist/songwriter John 5, guitarist Wes Borland and drummer Josh Freese and marks FILTER’s first release in five years since The Amalgamut. Pointed and passionate, the new album traces PATRICK’s own anger and shame with the state of things, from the intense alternative industrial blast of “The Take,” “What’s Next” and “Hatred is Contagious,” the ultimate resignation of “Kill the Day” and “Lie After Lie” to the tentative hope expressed by “Only You” and the ambient soundscape of the closing “Can Stop This.”

FILTER’s club shows are as follows:DATE CITY VENUEMarch 2 San Diego, CA The Casbah
March 3 Orangevale, CA Boardwalk
March 4 San Francisco, CA Café DuNord
