JOAN JETT & THE BLACKHEARTS PREMIERE OFFICIAL VIDEO FOR “ANY WEATHER”

New Album Unvarnished Available Now

Rock n’ roll icon JOAN JETT & her Blackhearts have unveiled the anticipated official music video for the single “Any Weather,” which comes via her newly released album Unvarnished. Joan is fresh off the heels of her surprise performance at iHeartRadio Festival and her intimate record release show at Santos Party House in NYC. The new video – directed by Kevin Kerslake – was shot in Los Angeles, CA, and showcases a never-before-used camera technique to give the production a raw and classic aura.

“Embedding the theme of the video in the form of my approach, cinematically-speaking – my camera crew and I ripped apart two state of the art cameras, exposing their guts and effectively turning them into 21st Century versions of crude, antiquated devices,” explains director Kevin Kerslake on the unique filming techniques used during the video shoot. “They were the digital filmic equivalent of two tin cans and a piece of string.”

Joan has said that Unvarnished is the most introspective album she’s ever done. While still keeping to her signature sound, Jett observes her own life as well as life around her. From applauding the determination of Hurricane Sandy’s victims to lighthearted commentary on today’s trend of over-sharing, the new album touches a variety of subjects. Jett expanded her creative process to work with musicians Dave Grohl and Against Me!’s Laura Jane Grace, as well as Blackhearts guitarist Dougie Needles and drummer Thommy Price. In addition, Joan has continued her work with longtime writing partner/producer, Kenny Laguna. “It’s a real band album. Everybody was involved,” explains Joan. THURSDAY, AUGUST 1 TO BE PROCLAIMED
‘JOAN JETT DAY’ IN THE CITY OF WEST HOLLYWOOD

TICKETS FOR THE AUGUST 1-3 FESTIVAL ON SALE NOW
WITH A SIGNIFICANT PORTION OF PROCEEDS BENEFITING
MUSIC FOR RELIEF

Multi-platinum selling, iconic rock goddess JOAN JETT has been selected as the festival honoree at this year’s SUNSET STRIP MUSIC FESTIVAL (SSMF), taking place in West Hollywood August 1-3. Since co-founding the pioneering all-girl punk quintet The Runaways at age 15, JETT has continued to be an originator, innovator, visionary–and a pivotal figure in the history of The Sunset Strip. As with previous SSMF honorees, JETT will be celebrated at an exclusive VIP event Thursday, August 1 at the House of Blues Sunset Strip, kicking off the three-day music festival. There she will be presented with the coveted “Elmer Valentine Award” and, immediately following the tribute ceremony, lucky attendees will enjoy a full live performance by JOAN JETT & the Blackhearts. Tickets for the event are extremely limited; see info below. In addition to the VIP reception, the City of West Hollywood will honor JETT by officially proclaiming Thursday, August 1 “Joan Jett Day.”

“I actually lived on the Strip, right across the street from the Whisky,” said Joan Jett.  “The Sunset Strip is a piece of rock ‘n roll history.  I never thought all of those insane times would turn into an award, but I’m very honored, and inspired to keep making music.”

This marks the sixth installment of the award ceremony and the SUNSET STRIP MUSIC FESTIVAL, which celebrates the music and icons that have made an impact on the legacy of The Strip. The event debuted in 2008 with the recognition of Lou Adler, Mario Maglieri and Elmer Valentine, founders of cornerstone Sunset Strip venues The Roxy Theatre, Rainbow Bar & Grill and Whisky A Go-Go. In 2009, Ozzy Osbourne received the “Elmer Valentine Award,” which was thusly named after the passing of original honoree Valentine. The 2010 award went to Slash, in 2011 Mötley Crüe was recognized, and in 2012 The Doors were celebrated.

“It is my honor and pleasure to take part in inducting the first female music superstar, Joan Jett, to the exclusive group of Sunset Strip icons to receive the coveted ‘Elmer Valentine Award,’” says SSMF Festival Managing Director Karmen Beck. “We are delighted to celebrate Joan Jett who has so much influenced the history of the legendary boulevard.”

As the leader of the hard-rocking Blackhearts, JETT has had eight platinum and gold albums and nine Top 40 singles, including the classics “Bad Reputation,” “I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll,” “I Hate Myself For Loving You,” and “Crimson and Clover.” She rose to fame in the late ‘70s, performing on The Sunset Strip as part of the all-girl band The Runaways. JETT was recently able to see her story told in The Runaways, a film based on (lead singer of The Runaways) Cherie Currie’s book Neon Angel and starring Kristen Stewart as Jett, and Dakota Fanning as Currie. JETT was close to the project, serving as an Executive Producer.

Additionally, JETT sits at the head of her own independent label, Blackheart Records, produces various music projects for others, and has acted in movies and television, including 1987’s Light Of Day, and in the Tony-nominated Broadway musical The Rocky Horror Show. She has appeared on such acclaimed television shows as “Oprah” (the last season) and “Law and Order.”

The sixth annual three-day music festival officially gets underway with the 2013 honoree award presentation and tribute event on Thursday at the House of Blues Sunset Strip, followed up with special high-profile shows in the world famous music venues on The Sunset Strip Thursday and Friday nights, and culminates on Saturday, August 3 with a 3-11 PM street festival.

As in years past for the Saturday event, Sunset Boulevard will be closed to traffic between Doheny Drive and San Vicente Boulevard and transformed into a premier concert destination with two outdoor stages, beer gardens, an artist autograph tent, an outdoor VIP rooftop lounge, silent disco, VIP Lounge at On The Rox, food trucks and interactive experiences.

Tickets for the SSMF 2013 street festival are on sale now via the official ticketing provider, Eventbrite, at http://sunsetstrip.eventbrite.com. Ticket options include general admission August 3 street festival ticket for $79 and a VIP option for $145, which includes access to the rooftop VIP area with views of the West stage, VIP areas in the beer garden and venues, access to VIP lounge On The Rox, a separate entrance and additional perks. A limited number of three-day VIP passes are available for $250 via http://sunsetstrip.eventbrite.com. The three-day VIP pass allows VIP access to all three nights of music in the venues pending capacity, the Saturday street festival and the exclusive tribute event celebrating Joan Jett on August 1. As previously announced, a significant portion of this year’s ticket sales will benefit Music For Relief, a nonprofit organization to support disaster relief, provide aid to survivors of natural disasters and support the prevention of such disasters via environmental programs.

Previous SSMF performers have included Ozzy Osbourne, Mötley Crüe, The Smashing Pumpkins, The Offspring, Marilyn Manson, Steve Aoki, Slash featuring Fergie, Public Enemy, Bad Religion, Common, Bush, LMFAO, Kid Cudi, Neon Trees, Matt & Kim, Cobra Starship, Shiny Toy Guns, The Head Cat, Andy Grammer, Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger of The Doors, She Wants Revenge, Awolnation and Imagine Dragons, among others.  Highlights from the past five years, including the SSMF 2012 street festival–which drew 15,000 music fans from Southern California and beyond–can be seen here: http://bit.ly/SSMFvideo13.

SSMF thanks its supporters including Jack Daniel’s, Gibson Guitar, Hornburg Land Rover/Jaguar, Bud Light. Monster Energy, 98.7 fm, KTLA, Eventbrite, City of West Hollywood, Visit West Hollywood.

2 Joan Jett Makes History

Legendary Rock and Roll Icon Joan Jett Makes History as First Female with a Gibson Electric Signature Model

Gibson Guitar, the world’s premier musical instrument manufacturer and leader in music technology, has announced the launch of the Joan Jett Signature Melody Maker guitar, designed and produced in close cooperation with the rock legend herself. The model pays tribute to the iconic Melody Maker Jett played on hits like “I Love Rock N’ Roll,” and “Do You Wanna Touch Me” and, true to her trailblazer status, marks the first Gibson electric signature model designed in conjunction with a female artist.

“This is my guitar. Gibson was successfully able to replicate my custom velvet hammer pick ups which have not been available for twenty years. It’s perfect for gigs as well as recording,” says Jett. “For those of you performing live, you may understand the value of being able to shave off those split seconds between playing and interacting with the audience, especially if you use your hands to communicate. I can move between the killswitch, which mutes the guitar, and playing, and then back again without a lot of in-between motion. With its no frills basic set up, it’s a perfect guitar for either an experienced player or someone just learning.”

Gibson’s Joan Jett Signature Melody Maker features a lightweight, slab mahogany body with a White Worn finish. Handcrafted to the same specs as Jett’s original guitar, the slim-tapered neck profile is similar to the Les Pauls and SGs of the mid to late 1960s. The fingerboard of the Melody Maker is constructed from the highest grade of ebony on the planet, Jett’s personal choice for her signature Melody Maker, and the headstock features Gibson’s classic, silk-screened logo.

The classic, snarling growl of Jett’s original Melody Maker is accurately captured by a single Gibson Burstbucker 3 zebra humbucker, slightly overwound with asymmetrical coils, unpolished Alnico II magnets, and all the punch and power of an original Gibson PAF pickup. The tuners are mini-Grovers with authentic “witch hat” knobs, exactly as they are on Jett’s guitar. A “kill” switch replaces the normal Gibson toggle switch, and the body is outfitted with a period-correct black vinyl pickguard. The guitar also includes such typical Melody Maker features as 24-inch scale length and the standard Gibson Tune-o-matic and stopbar tailpiece.

“Joan Jett is a true icon of rock and roll. Since the beginning she has been a groundbreaking artist and a trailblazer for women in the genre,” said Henry Juszkiewicz, Chairman and CEO of Gibson Guitar. “Gibson is proud to be working with such an influential guitar player.”

Joan Jett has been a force in the world of music since the age of 15 when she co-founded the all-girl punk quintet The Runaways. After being rejected by multiple labels for a record contract after the Runaways, she formed Blackheart Records, making her the first major female artist to own her own record label. With hits such as “I Love Rock n’ Roll,” “Bad Reputation” and “Crimson and Clover,” she has scored nine Top 40 hits and eight Platinum and Gold albums. Joan Jett and The Blackhearts continue to win over fans both new and old with their live shows, including a main stage headliner spot on the 2006 Vans Warped Tour. Jett also currently hosts her own show, “Joan Jett’s Radio Revolution,” on Sirius’ Faction (Channel 28).

1 Joan Jett Leads All-Star Chorus Supporting Jimmy Kimmel Video

Legendary Rocker Sings Unprintable Lyrics, Offers To Sing At Wedding

Perhaps you’ve heard the musical news that Jimmy Kimmel is “f*cking Ben Affleck.” He told the world on his post-Oscars show Sunday in a video available below!

Front and center (and first) in the “We Are the World”-styleJoan Jett vocal session contained in the video is legendary rocker Joan Jett, who sings in a loud and proud solo that “you can’t stop this love affair,” then lets loose with a barrage of pelvic thrusts and bleeped lyrics. The video also stars, among others, Robin Williams, Cameron Diaz, Don Cheadle, Rebecca Romijn, Pete Wentz, Macy Gray, Joel and Benji Madden, Lance Bass, Huey Lewis, Meat Loaf, Christina Applegate, Dominic Monaghan, Brad Pitt, Harrison Ford, Josh Groban (possibly the only time Jett and Groban are likely to appear together on a stage) and, of course, Kimmel and Affleck.

The video was created in response to Kimmel’s girlfriend Sarah Silverman’s similar assertion that she was “f*cking Matt Damon,” which as of Sunday had garnered more than 8 million YouTube views, and Jett was one of the first to agree to participate.

“I support all people’s rights to love whomever they choose,” said Jett, who will be releasing a greatest hits album and DVD this August. “If Jimmy and Ben can find lasting happiness together, I’d be glad to sing at their wedding. Good thing Ben’s from Massachusetts.”

1 The Heart Attacks – Hellbound and Heartless (2006)

Heartattacks In late 2006, Atlanta, Georgia’s The Heart Attacks sprung their 2nd release Hellbound and Heartless.

This disc is an interesting mix of 70’s style glam in the vein of the New York Dolls, late 80s’s sleaze and punk rock.

The songs are short, 12 tunes clocking in under 40 minutes, and have a raw sound to them.

Joan Jett lends the band a hand on the tune Tearstained Letters. Their is also an interesting cover of the Credence Clearwater Revival classic Travelin’ Band. To me, these tracks are the definite stand outs on this record.

The Heart Attacks fall into the trap where one song after another starts to sound the same. The songs have a lot of energy, but they lack a lot of variety. It isn’t terrible but will certainly be detrimental to their success.

Are The Heart Attacks the next big thing? Probably not. Hellbound and Heartless does have a unique mix of styles that doesn’t sound like a lot of other releases coming out today.

This record is one that will probably appeal more to the punk crowd, than to today’s glam fans. If you like what you hear in the videos below, check out The Heart Attacks, at their myspace page.
