Mastodon have been in the studio in Nashville with Grammy Award-winning producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Deftones) working on the follow-up to their critically acclaimed album The Hunter, which entered the Billboard Top 200 Album chart in the Top 10 and found its way onto several Year End/Best Of critics’ lists, including those compiled by Rolling Stone, Spin, Revolver, Decibel and many more. Critically acclaimed album heavy-rock masterminds Mastodon won a pair of prestigious awards in London this past week for its current album, The Hunter. First up was the Kerrang! Award (Kerrang! Magazine UK) for “Best Album.” Mastodon also took home the prize for “Best Album” at this year’s Metal Hammer Golden God Awards (Metal Hammer Magazine UK). Both awards were handed out at star-studded ceremonies in London on June 7th & 11threspectively.
Mastodon are touring in support of The Hunter, which found its way onto several Year End/Best Of critics’ lists, including those compiled by Rolling Stone, Spin, Revolver, Decibel and many more. Records will have a special series of vinyl albums and singles available in honor of the 5th annual Record Store Day – a celebration of the unique culture surrounding over 700 independently owned record stores in the USA, and hundreds of similar stores internationally. Red Hot Chili Peppers: Stadium Arcadium (Deluxe 180 Gram vinyl Box Set)
On April 14, 2012, the Red Hot Chili Peppers will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and to commemorate this historic event, this classic Deluxe box set of the band’s first number one album will be specially priced for Record Store Day. The Deluxe package was mastered for vinyl by Steve Hoffman and includes two 16-page booklets – “Jupiter” and “Mars.” The Red Hot Chili Peppers won four Grammy® Awards for Stadium Arcadium including: Best Rock Album, Best Boxed Or Special Limited Edition Package in addition to Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group for their chart-topping, record-breaking single “Dani California.”
Metallica: Beyond Magnetic (12″ color vinyl EP)
Beyond Magnetic consists of four outtakes from the 2008 Death Magnetic sessions and is available for the first time on silver vinyl just for RSD. A potent and exceptionally well-produced example of Metallica’s most recent work, which can hold its own with anything within their vast heavy music cannon. Previously unreleased on vinyl and includes a limited edition Metallica sticker.
T-Rex: The Electric Warrior Singles Box: (Six 7″ vinyl singles)
This RSD exclusive comes housed in a clamshell-box featuring the entire album, plus the non-album b-side “Raw Ramp,” spread across six singles. When combined, the six picture sleeves form an image of T. Rex founder Marc Bolan in his prime. Chris Bellman used the original analog masters to cut each disc at Bernie Grundman Mastering.
Misfits: Walk Among Us (Color vinyl album – 3 different colors)
Rhino will also offer three colored-vinyl versions of the Misfits’ WALK AMONG US to mark the 30-year anniversary of the band’s 1982 full-length debut. It is a faithful reproduction of the original with music cut from the original analog masters and packaging that duplicates details down to the printed inner sleeve. The album will be pressed on red (1,250 pieces), blue (1,250 pieces) and clear (500) vinyl. Color variations will be distributed randomly. There will also be a purple vinyl pressing released internationally that will be limited to 1,500 copies.
Side by Side 2012 Series:
A continuation of the well-received Warner Bros Records “Side by Side” series, which was initially introduced in 2011. “Dry Bone Valley” is the second single from Mastodon’s critically acclaimed Top 10 album The Hunter, and has just entered the Top 20 at radio this week. As expected, The Hunter found its way onto several Year End/Best Of Critics’ Lists, including those compiled by Rolling Stone, Spin, Revolver, Decibel and many more.
The song’s original video was created by noted fine artist Tim Biskup, a long-time friend who has amassed a cadre of loyal fans and collectors of his painting and sculpture. Watch that clip here.

0 Stone’s Top Ten Metal Albums of 2011
Top Ten Metal Albums Of 2011 – Oh the Metal albums I listened to during 2011! Metal be thy name, there were a Metal many. Metal many again. Regardless of how many Metal albums that did rip my eardrums apart and psyched me out during the process, I couldn’t possibly listen to every Metal album released this past year. It’s not humanly possible. I’ve compiled below, a list of ten Metal albums that for all Metal intents and purposes… kicked my Metal lovin’ ass during 2011.
Yes, you will see a couple of albums tied in this top ten list and it was an unavoidable and welcomed outcome. Choosing my top ten Metal albums for any given year is not easy! However, choosing my number one Metal album for 2011 was easy and Hemoptysis is without a doubt in my Metal mind, one of the best Metal bands to come forth in the past ten and possibly twenty years. You can call Hemoptysis Thrash, Death Thrash, Extreme and Metal. I call this band exceptional and their Misanthropic Slaughter album is number F’n ONE!
Hopefully you may agree with a few of these albums I’ve chosen for my top ten. A personal list of Metal taste it is. Each Metal album here for me bestows quality musicianship and songs, from beginning to end. The common thread each band below shares with one another, that can never be denied: They are all Defenders Of The Metal Faith and I salute each and every one!

Heavy rock innovators MASTODON are currently in the studio recording the follow-up to their ground-breaking concept album “Crack The Skye,“one of the most critically lauded albums of the past decade:

Celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Pantera‘s Cowboys From Hell album with the special Limited Edition Collectors vinyl release of COWBOYS FROM HELL: THE DEMOS. This special piece has a custom cover and demos of the Cowboys From Hell tracks, as well as “The Will To Survive.” This release is limited to 3,000 copies and only available at participating Metal Club stores starting on Black Friday (November 26).

Since forming in 2000, Mastodon have essentially lived on the road. After non-stop touring, the band, Brann Dailor, Bill Kelliher, Troy Sanders and Brent Hinds decided to record a demo, which would ultimately be released in a shortened EP form on Relapse Records as Lifeblood.
The success of the EP spurned more touring, and even greater success. Their first full-length album Remission, followed in 2002. True to form another round of touring ensued and then Leviathan an album critics were quick to embrace. But it’s with the band’s legion of fans that they have really delivered. Mastodon’s “blue collar” touring ethic has earned them constant accolades from fans that have grown accustomed to their accessibility, approachability and dedication as a working mans band. 0 MASTODON BAND MEMBER HOSPITALIZED EUROPEAN TOUR WILL CONTINUE
Bill Kelliher, guitarist with Atlanta-based heavy rock band MASTODON has been hospitalized in London as of Nov. 3, during the bands current European Unholy Alliance Chapter 3 package tour. Doctors will continue to monitor his condition which is improving at press time.
At the moment, Mastodon has decided to continue on the tour as a trio. Doctors and Bill are hopeful that he will rejoin his band mates in time for their headlining tour of Europe which begins Nov 30, in Utrecht, Holland and will end on Dec 7, at the All Tomorrow’s Parties Festival in Somerset, England. More details to follow as they develop.

A journalist once wrote of Slayer, “If Thomas Jefferson were alive today, he undoubtedly would be listening to Slayer.” Indeed, in the beginning, when there were no blueprints, no set paths, no boundaries or steps to follow, SLAYER assaulted the world with its new hybrid of metal and punk. Heavier, faster and darker than the rest, Slayer set the new standard which all others continue to follow. Slayer is the band that all other heavy acts are measured against, defining not only a genre but an attitude. For more than two-and-a-half decades, Slayer’s onslaught of sheer brutality has proven them to be the supreme thrash-metal band on the planet.
