From Rockline Radio.com:

There’s a joke that’s been around for years and one could easily apply it to Megadeth main man Dave Mustaine. It goes something like this, “Few would argue that Dave Mustaine is outspoken”. The reply is, “Oh yeah, by whom?” We love that about Dave, he’s a no pretense, straight shooting, in-your-face- kinda guy and while he might tick off some people now and then, we find it refreshing to know where you stand with someone. It translates to his music too. Megadeth is upfront, political, engaging, confrontational and thought provoking. Take the latest single, “The Right To Go Insane”, from the newest album, “Endgame”. It’s about that former military dude in San Diego, Shawn Timothy Nelson, who flipped out a few years ago, stole an M-60 Patton military tank from the US National Guard Armory and went on a property damaging, hell-bent rampage that ended in the worst possible way, lodged on a concrete median with his life taken without reservation or hesitation. While it’s hard to justify such actions (from both sides), a quick inventory of Nelson’s life explained much. Sometimes an event will cause a person to snap, but with the overworked and underappreciated Shaun Nelson his whole life disintegrated with both of his parents dying, his house being foreclosed upon and as if that weren’t enough his wife left him too. In the video for the song Mustaine portrays the maniacal Nelson. David Ellefson, Megadeth’s longtime bassist, returns to the fold for his first video appearance with the band since 2001. New to the band is Chris Broderick whom Mustaine terms the greatest guitarist the band has ever had, praise of the highest order from a man who has heard a player or two in his time.

Megadeth.com and mySpace.com/Megadeth are user friendly and informative sites for you to visit. ROCKLINE is where you can place a free call and speak with Dave….and from what we understand David might join us as well. A quick visit to the website will let you know about the special event to take place on June 22 at select movie theaters as “The Big Four”, Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax will perform on one stage together. This is a onetime event, never to be repeated and you can learn more at TheBigFourLive.com

Even though “Endgame” came out in 2009 this is our first chance to catch up with Megadeth as they spend so much time on the road, much of it overseas and there have been many changes within the band and personally as well. It’s time to catch up again as we welcome Megadeth back to ROCKLINE!

Can’t make it to Europe this June for one of the seven Sonisphere “Big Four” shows featuring us along with Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax? No problem . . . we’ve got the next best thing through the magic of satellite technology with a special HD simulcast from Sofia, Bulgaria on June 22!
Here’s how it works: The live show will be transmitted via satellite to over 450 movie theaters in the U.S. and over 350 theaters across Europe, Canada, and Latin America. Within hours of all of us walking off the stage, depending on what time zone you live in, you’ll be able to rock out to each set in the cozy confines of your local movie theater that same night.
Now the nitty gritty details: Tickets for the one night only event are available at the local theater box offices and online at thebigfourlive.com where you can see a complete list of presenting theaters. They will start to go on sale Friday, May 21 in the U.S and Friday, May 28 internationally. Please note that ticket on sale times and even days will vary by theatre, so check with your friendly neighborhood participating movie theatre for exact days and times tickets will be available and keep watching thebigfourlive.com for theatre additions/changes. For our friends in Australia, South Africa and New Zealand, delayed screenings will be coming your way. Again, keep watching here and thebigfourlive.com for updates.
A few more tidbits you might find helpful: Ticket prices in the U.S. will be around $20 plus whatever service charges your local theater may add. No, unfortunately each band’s entire set will not be shown, but trust us, you’ll see most of the action.

If you’re still with us here and want a little more info about the good people helping to make this happen, check out: byexperience.net. They’ve done some awesome events!

2 Dave Ellefson Returns To Megadeth

  • February 8, 2010

  • · Entertainment · Hard Rock Music · Hard Rock News · Music

Megadeth founder and frontman Dave Mustaine has announced the return of original bassist David Ellefson (1983-2002) to the iconic multi-platinum group.  This reunion is appropriately timed to Megadeth‘s upcoming historic month-long Rust In Peace 20th anniversary tour which launches March 1 in Spokane, WA.  At these incredibly special shows, Megadeth will play their landmark, genre-defining 1990 album Rust In Peace in its entirety, in addition to other Megadeth favorites.

“This shows the power of brotherly love and forgiveness,” Mustaine says.  “David Ellefson belongs in Megadeth. Next we are going to show you the power of getting your asses kicked…HARD!”

David Ellefson concurs: “This is a huge moment for all of us, band and fans alike. It is a great celebration of the music from one of the biggest landmark albums of our career.”

Ellefson will join Mustaine and Megadeth band members Shawn Drover (drums) and Chris Broderick (guitar) on tour in support of the group’s current CD Endgame, which has received some of the highest critical accolades of the band’s career.

“We’d like to thank James LoMenzo for several years of loyal service on the bass, and wish him the very best,” Mustaine adds.

0 SLAYER, MEGADETH, TESTAMENT ANNOUNCE NEW DATES FOR THE “AMERICAN CARNAGE” NORTH AMERICAN TOUR Canadian Carnage East Leg Now Confirmed to Begin Late July

  • February 2, 2010
  • by Rob Rockitt
  • · Hard Rock Music

Slayer and Megadeth are thrilled to announce the new, confirmed routing for the American Carnage North American Tour, which will commence with the rescheduled Canadian Carnage East dates in Quebec City on Friday, July 23.  Slayer will then head to Europe for a run of festival dates, returning to kick off the American Carnage leg in Albany, NY on August 11.   American Carnage will play 26 dates across the United States and Eastern Canada up to the Labor Day weekend, ending in Portland, OR on September 4.  Testament will be Special Guest on all shows.  Tickets purchased for the American Carnage shows when they first went on sale late last year will be honored for these rescheduled dates.  Complete information regarding ticket sales can be found at www.slayer.net • www.megadeth.com • www.testamentlegiions.com

Due to venue availability and other conflicts, the shows originally scheduled in El Paso, Houston, Nashville, Duluth, and Louisville cannot be rescheduled at this time, and ticket holders may obtain refunds at point of purchase.  However, new cities have been added to the American Carnage itinerary, with dates now scheduled in Cleveland, Kansas City, San Diego, and Sacramento.  The confirmed, complete itinerary is below.

The American Carnage Tour, originally scheduled to take place in January and February, had to be put on hold due to Slayer’s vocalist/bassist, Tom Araya’s ongoing, minimally-invasive treatments for what was diagnosed as a Cervical Radiculopathy, an occupational hazard for the rocker who is known for aggressively swinging his long mane of hair while performing. Right after the first of the year, Araya made the difficult decision to undergo a surgical procedure, called an Anterior Cervical Discectomy with Fusion, a relatively routine practice with an excellent recovery rate.  That surgery took place early last week.
“The doctors said that Tom’s surgery went very smoothly and was a resounding success,” said Rick Sales, long-time Slayer manager.  “He’s home now, doing really well, and he said the numbness in his fingers had already diminished considerably.”
Shortly after the surgery, Slayer’s Kerry King received a text from Tom:  “Awake and feeling good, actually whatever he did, it feels better.”
The American Carnage Tour will mark the first time that Slayer, Megadeth and Testament will have toured the U.S. together since 1991’s epic “Clash of the Titans” tour, making this truly a “must-see” event.
Slayer recently announced the rescheduling of its headline tour in the UK and Europe, and Megadeth and Testament are currently on tour together playing U.S. cities that will not be on the American Carnage itinerary.
Both Megadeth and Slayer will hit the road on July 23 in support of their most recent albums:  Megadeth’s 2009 album, ENDGAME, and Slayer’s World Painted Blood, the band’s 10th studio venture, which hit stores November 3, 2009.  Testament’s The Formation of Damnation:  Special Tour Edition, will be released on February 23, 2010 with special unreleased bonus tracks.
Slayer and Megadeth have already massacred territories together outside of the U.S., first with four explosive dates in June 2009 across Western Canada – “Canadian Carnage” – the first time the bands had toured together anywhere in 18 years – and then six co-headlining “Carnage” dates in Australia followed last October.
According to various Canadian press outlets last summer:  “It was a night of thrash impossible to trash…”  “Tales about war, death, destruction, Satan, aliens and serial killers have never been so much fun…”  “The two heavy metal heavyweights…went head-to-head on a level playing field.  Both bands brought their ‘A’ game.  And the results were anything but pretty – unless you include pretty freakin’ loud and pretty freakin’ awesome.”
Slayer.  The Chicago Tribune‘s Greg Kot wrote that Slayer is “one of the great American rock bands of the last 30 years, forget about genre.”  Indeed, few bands come close to matching the intensity that Slayer – guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, vocalist/bassist Tom Araya, and drummer Dave Lombardo – bring to its live shows, having been named “Best Live Band” by numerous media outlets including Revolver, SPIN, and Metal Hammer.  World Painted Blood offers a Slayer-ized point of view of our world – God’s terrifying global genocide, the chaos of our broken political system, the way-too-close proximity of world horrors that technology has brought us, and a chilling hypothesis of how the rest of the world might view America.

The album was recorded in Los Angeles over two time periods, during October 2008 and then between late January and March 2009.  World Painted Blood was produced by Greg Fidelman who has spent time in the studio with Metallica, the Gossip, the (International) Noise Conspiracy, Slipknot and others, and executive produced by long-time Slayer colleague Rick Rubin, who suggested Fidelman for the project. One reviewer called the album “the heaviest, bloodiest and best album in almost two decades.”  World Painted Blood landed on boatloads of U.S. and International “Best of” lists for 2009, and N.A.R.A.S. saw fit to bestow its fourth Grammy nomination on Slayer – Best Metal Performance for the WPB track, “Hate Worldwide.”   For “American Carnage,” Slayer’s Tom Araya promises, “no ballads, no acoustic numbers, no slow tempos.”

Megadeth.  2009 saw the release of ENDGAME, which has been heralded as Megadeth’s best album in years.  It’s the record where it all comes full circle in a career that has not only set standards in hard rock and metal, but defined them.  Megadeth’s signature shredding and rousing lyrics are the hallmarks of ENDGAME, with vocalist/guitarist Dave Mustaine once again musing and making declarations about the world we live in, having named the album after a government document that should strike fear in the hearts of Americans!  But that’s Mustaine and Megadeth, using the vehicle of music to shake things up, to make a point and to rattle your brain, literally, figuratively and sonically.  Revolver magazine said of ENDGAME, “One of their best albums.”  VH1’s ‘That Metal Show’ deemed it “One of the metal albums of the year,” and Popmatters said, “the record positively scorches with an intensity not heard since Rust in Peace.” The band was also awarded the eighth Grammy nomination of its career for “Headcrusher,” which serves as more proof that ENDGAME is quickly earning “essential” status in the Megadeth catalog. Megadeth will appear on the season premiere of VH1 Classic’s “That Metal Show,” which airs Saturday, February 6, at 11 PM EST.

Legendary thrash metal titans Testament, whose latest award-winning release (2008 Album of the Year, Metal Hammer’s Golden God Award) The Formation of Damnation, displays them as the quintessential modern heavy metal band, whose experience and accumulated skill allows them to attack with reserves of anger, energy and finesse that make them more powerful than ever.  Lead singer Chuck Billy says, “Uniting these bands is the heavy metal event of generations.  We are so proud to be a part of it.”

1 METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH & ANTHRAX TO PERFORM TOGETHER FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HISTORY

* THE BIG FOUR CONFIRMED FOR SONISPHERE POLAND AND CZECH REPUBLIC *

* MORE BIG FOUR APPEARANCES AT SONISPHERE SHOWS PLANNED *

The world wide web has been abound with speculation on a possible “BIG FOUR” tour for several months. Now, SONISPHERE can exclusively reveal that METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH and ANTHRAX will play together for the first time in history, in a move that will have metalheads across the globe frenzied with excitement.

Says LARS ULRICH/METALLICA of this historic announcement:
“Who would have thought that more than 25 years after its inception, thrash metal’s big 4 would not only still be around and more popular than ever, but will now play together for the first time…what a mindfuck! Bring it on!”

“It’s about fucking time this happened,” said SLAYER’s KERRY KING. “and about time the fans finally get what they want. This is fucking awesome.”

ANTHRAX guitarist SCOTT IAN agrees, commenting on the enormity of the announcement.

“People have been talking about these four bands playing together since 1984. That’s twenty-six years of expectation!!! And the thing is, I believe not only will we live up to the expectations, we will shatter them!! No other four bands as influential as the four of us have ever done this. Imagine if The Beatles, Stones, The Who and Zeppelin had done shows? Or Sabbath, Priest, Maiden, Motorhead? Well, I may be getting into some rarified air here but as a fan, that’s how big I feel this is.”

These four legendary acts broke out of the underground thrash movement to dominate the metal world in the 1980s, selling millions of records and packing arenas across the globe. The metal giants have never before all shared the same stage, despite huge demand. But on 16th June 2010, METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH and ANTHRAX will take to the SONISPHERE stage at Bemowo Airport, Poland, to make the dreams of headbangers the world over become a reality. A second Big Four appearance is planned for SONISPHERE CZECH REPUBLIC three days later, with more SONISPHERE shows featuring the awesome combo to be announced in the coming days and weeks.

“This is a “once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity for Heavy Metal “Fans” to see the four greatest Heavy Metal “Bands” in American History back together on one stage” concludes MEGADETH mainman DAVE MUSTAINE. “If there are any heads left at the end of this Festival that haven’t banged, they don’t belong there.”

0 Megadeth, Slayer Team Up For ‘American Carnage’

  • November 16, 2009

YES, THE RUMORS ARE TRUE: SLAYER, MEGADETH TEAM UP FOR “AMERICAN CARNAGE”
Co-Headliners to Tour the U.S. Together For the First Time in Nearly Two Decades
Testament to be Special Guest
Recession-Proof $10.00 Tickets Available in All U.S. Markets

Slayer. Megadeth. Two names synonymous with fierce, crunching power. Two bands whose histories are inevitably intertwined in defining the thrash/metal genre. Individually, their respective prowess and accomplishments are impressive; but together, they’re brutal and unstoppable. Megadeth and Slayer will join forces to co-headline “American Carnage,” the most blistering, the most explosive, and the most eagerly anticipated mega-tour of the winter – and you do not want to miss it.

“American Carnage” will kick off on January 18 in Seattle, WA for a 26-date trek across North America that will include the six Canadian dates postponed earlier this month. Tickets for most shows go on sale this Friday, November 20. Ticketmaster is offering a special presale for most shows from Wednesday November 18 at 10am until Thursday November 19 at 10pm.

“American Carnage” is the first time that Slayer and Megadeth will have toured the U.S. together since 1991’s epic “Clash of the Titans” tour. To celebrate that and in recognition of the tough economic times that many of their fans are having, Megadeth and Slayer have decided to roll back the price of a chunk of tickets at every U.S. show to the “1991 price” of $10.00. These specially-priced tickets will be limited and when they’re gone, they’re gone. Megadeth has also teamed with iloveallaccess.com to provide an Ultimate Fan Package including premium seats, meet and greets, pre-show parties and more.

In addition, Testament – who was also on the “Clash of the Titans” bill, will be Special Guests on the entire tour, marking the first time that all three bands have shared a stage together in more than 18 years, and making this a “must see” metal event.

Both Megadeth and Slayer will hit the road supporting new albums: Megadeth’s 2009 album, ENDGAME, while Slayer’s World Painted Blood, the band’s 10th studio venture, hit stores November 3. Testament’s The Formation of Damnation: Special Tour Edition, will be released on February 23, 2010, with special unreleased bonus tracks.

Slayer and Megadeth have already massacred territories together outside of the U.S. – first with four explosive dates in June, 2009 across Western Canada – “Canadian Carnage” – marking the first time the bands had shared a stage anywhere in 18 years; and then six co-headlining “Carnage” dates in Australia followed in October.

According to various Canadian press outlets last summer: “It was a night of thrash impossible to trash…” “Tales about war, death, destruction, Satan, aliens and serial killers have never been so much fun…” “The two heavy metal heavyweights …went head-to-head on a level playing field. Both bands brought their ‘A’ game. And the results were anything but pretty – unless you include pretty freakin’ loud and pretty freakin’ awesome.”

Slayer. Few bands come close to matching the intensity that Slayer – guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, vocalist/bassist Tom Araya and drummer Dave Lombardo – brings to its live shows, having been named “Best Live Band” by numerous media outlets including Revolver, SPIN, and Metal Hammer. World Painted Blood was produced by Greg Fidelman, who’s spent time in the studio with Metallica, the Gossip, the (International) Noise Conspiracy, Slipknot and others, and executive produced by long-time Slayer colleague, Rick Rubin, who suggested Fidelman for the project. One reviewer called the album “the heaviest, bloodiest and best album in almost two decades.” Fans got a couple of early morsels of the brutal new Slayer material — “Psychopathy Red,” a Hanneman song inspired by the heinous Russian serial killer Andrei Chikatilo, who confessed to savagely murdering 56 children, was recorded last October and then leaked online. Then, the King-penned track, “Hate Worldwide,” was made available in July as a limited-edition single through Hot Topic. For “American Carnage,” Slayer’s Tom Araya promises, “no ballads, no acoustic numbers, no slow tempos.”

Megadeth. 2009 saw the release of ENDGAME, what has been heralded as Megadeth’s best album in years. It’s the record where it all comes full circle in a career that has not only set standards in hard rock and metal, but defined them. Megadeth’s signature shredding and rousing lyrics are the hallmarks of ENDGAME, with vocalist/guitarist Dave Mustaine once musing and making declarations about the world we live in, having named the album after a government document that should strike fear in the hearts of Americans! But that’s Mustaine and Megadeth, using the vehicle of music to shake things up, to make a point and to rattle your brain, literally, figuratively and sonically. Revolver magazine said of ENDGAME, “”One of their best albums.” VH1’s That Metal Show deemed it, “One of the metal albums of the year”, and Popmatters said, “”the record positively scorches with an intensity not heard since Rust in Peace.

Slayer and Megadeth are also re-scheduling the east coast leg of the “Canadian Carnage” tour, postponed from this fall.

7 Megadeth – Endgame (2009)

MegadethEndgameOne word best describes Megadeth’s twelfth CD, Endgame. Disappointing!  I had high hopes for this CD, but this long time Megadeth fan is not impressed.  With the awesome dualing riffs of Mustaine and Broderick, this band may have the best guitar tandem since Marty Friedman was in the band. Nonstop noodling and shredding does not make a good album though.  There has to be solid songwriting.  This disc is lacking the melodies and lyrics that made Megadeth one of the biggest and best thrash metal bands of all time.

I enjoyed the band’s previous effort, United Abominations. Personally, I don’t think  Endgame is anywhere near as good as that disc. Musically, I think Endgame is superior to UA, but lyrically, I believe United Abominations is the stronger of the two.

With Megadeth’s new axeman Chris Broderick, Dave Mustaine has found the new sparring partner he has been looking for. Broderick’s playing is as intense, as it is fast.  I am quite impressed with his playing on this disc.

Endgame opens up with a brief instrumental track, “Dialectic Chaos”. The trade off between Mustaine and Broderick is brilliant.  Although, I would typically think that opening an album with an instrumental would be an unwise decision, this tune sets the stage for Endgame perfectly. The songs ending, and “This Day We Fight!” beginning is seamless, and it doesn’t take long for Mustaine’s trademark snarl to find its way into the lyrics.  I don’t think I have heard a song played with such fury and intensity since “Rust in Peace”.

The pace slows down somewhat for “44 Minutes”. Dave Mustaine rattles off lyrics about a bank robbery gone awry.  There is no discernable chorus, but it is a cool song nonetheless.

“1,320′” opens up with the high octane sounds of a funny car.  As you probably guessed, this song is about drag racing.  The guitar noodling on this track is insane! Mustaine and Broderick trade off leads that might be as fast as the cars this song represents. If the NHRA needs a theme song, they don’t need to look any further.

The bass groove by James Lomenzo on “Bite the Hand” is extremely cool. There are some cool lyrics in this tune, but I can’t seem to get into the chorus, “When its dog eat dog, you are what you eat”.  Ok, Dave!  The music overall is pretty good, but this isn’t one of my favorite tunes on this album.

“The Hardest Part of Letting Go….Sealed With A Kiss” starts off in a ballad like form, before blasting off in the middle, and slowing back down towards the end. Out of all of the songs on Endgame, this one probably has the most radio potential.

I hope this CD isn’t Megadeth’s Endgame. It is a good thrash album, even if I don’t think it is one of Megadeth’s best. This CD is loaded with guitar solos, which I absolutely love, I just wish there were more melodies and catchy lyrics on this disc. This CD may grow on me more, but the songs just aren’t very memorable after a few listens. The end result is ultimately disappointing.

3 Boneyard – Day #2

boneyard

It appears that the format on XM Radio’s Boneyard has definitely changed.  Their new format is, “Classic Rock that is Hard and Heavy”.  Over the last couple of days I have heard heavy cuts from Motley Crue, Metallica, Megadeth, Rush, Aerosmith, The Cult, Black Sabbath and more.  I can’t say that I have heard anything that truly falls under the hair metal envelope, so that is one major change to the Boneyard.

Still no sign of the familiar “Bone Me” either.

The station seems to be a little heavier than it used to be, but I have heard no new songs on the Boneyard and that is a complete disappointment.

Hopefully, it will get better as time goes on, but it is definitely not the same.

0 New Update From Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine

Dave Mustaine from Megadeth posted the following update online last night:

Droogies!

Its time to tell you the truth about what is happening in the studio.

We are trying really hard to come up with a record that will satisfy our new fans that love Megadeth, and that have not had to deal with the ‘ups and downs’ of being a fan whilst line-up changes took place. Trust me, I know that this sucks for you, because you get close to someone, or you get familiar with a certain musician and then he may be gone.

It is sad to think like that, but it is like I said before, “We really only have just this moment together, don’t we?” We have had so many different musicians in this band that when I was trying to make my point, it took quite some time to run down the list of players. You see, I was trying to tell Justis that he needs to do certain things with his band, and that he needs to be able to make the tough decisions that most ‘leaders’ don’t have to make. And sometimes it results in line-up changes.

I told him about the very first group of people that I played with in my first setting, all the way through my first real band, through Panic and Metallica, ending with the long line-up list from Megadeth.

I started playing with my sister’s ex-husband’s (douche bag) little brother and a few guys, and switched around in that band until I met Dave Harmon and created Panic and the several line-ups with that band. Then there were the changes within Metallica that people don’t know about, like ‘Damien’ the feminine guitarist with the feather earring and the eyeliner and the red and white striped girl’s shirt; and last but certainly not least, there have been more changes in Megadeth than I would like to count.

So, here we are in the studio with three other talented men and a fantastic engineer and producer that is recording and co-producing the record with me. And if you think about it, Andy has made several of the hottest new metal records out currently, and he is one of the few people that I listen to without prejudice, so I listen to him with very honest ears.

We have 11 ideas, I think that we have four of those arranged or close to being arranged and of those 11, several of them are complete songs. i am also waiting to hear from Shawn, James, and Chris. James had something that was really great and is going to make it onto this record. Shawn had some stuff from long ago and I asked him to try to re-record it because we have been together for four years now, and since he is the second longest drummer in Megadeth, only second to Nick Menza, I feel that he deserves to have his music on this record; besides he is really good and has great chops and songwriting skills.

Sundays we take off from the studio, and Shawn and Andy go five blocks from my beach house to the sand and sunbath for the day. They’ve also been getting familiar with the surrounding area. I am going to head in today and work around Justis and his band (they go in on the weekend after they finish all of their school work) until we are finished with this record. I have some renewed vitality and I have been going in early and just playing my guitar by myself. But first, I have a massage for my physical therapy on my degenerative disk disease and arthritis in my neck.

Please send me more messages on our widget on our homepage, and leave me messages at TheLiveLine.

Wish me well today, you know that I am doing the same for you, and I hope that you are enjoying the site and all of the improvements that our beloved webmaster and crew are making. That is it for me!

I love you all

0 An Update from Dave Mustaine!

MEGADETH’s Dave Mustaine has issued the following update:

“I am going over the week and what I have accomplished and what still needs to be done going forward. It was a great week, we are up to eight song ideas, and not only did James and I get a load of work accomplished, but we also managed to get over to the U.S. Naval Hospital and visit the cancer and leukemia patients and all of the amputees from the I.E.D.s in Iraq. That was a very sobering moment.

I was also able to do a photo shoot for Dean Guitars yesterday of me and my new R.I.P. V (VMNT) and it looks absolutely amazing. I have had the misfortune of losing several of the “more beautiful” guitars in my collection over the years to malfunctions, and mental meltdowns, but this is a guitar that I believe, even “I” would not be able to see get hurt or damaged in any way.

In other words – this is the baddest mutha-f*cka I have ever had!

You will no doubt see soon, and probably at NAMM this year, which I will be proudly practising my penmanship at the DEAN Guitars booth. I will hopefully be able to stop in and say hello and thanks to all of my endorsers, which aren’t many because I don’t play stuff just because its kewl or free or costs less, just like I only play the best guitars because they are the best guitars!

I do endorse several products that you can see on my gear page, and there will be a few slight additions to my repertoire, like the surprise coming from Marshall Amplifiers this next year. You will be able to see these magnificent works of art on the JUDAS PRIEST – Megadeth – TESTAMENT tour coming up in February, in the UK and Europe, as well as Gigantour in the USA and Canada this spring and summer, and around the rest of the world for the following months.

You will also be able to hear these new products on the new record that we are working on in my personal studio, the 12th studio record for Megadeth, so stay posted for uploaded clips of new music at our fan club and all over the Official Megadeth websites.

Thank you for all of your participation in the contests with Megadeth.com and with our Official Megadeth Fan Club – the MFC. On January 1st we are going to be accepting new memberships for the Official Megadeth MegaFanClub again. Stay tuned to details on that too.

Today I will be going over the artwork for the Christmas Card entries and picking the winner. If you entered, cross your fingers, and we will notify the winner and runners up soon.

Lastly, our beloved Webmaster is finalizing the criteria for the “Challenge.” This is going to be a great way for you or someone you know to help their community and do something good with themselves, and do the “pay it forward” kinda thing. As things become clearer, so will what we are going to consider meeting the “Challenge.

Hell, there aren’t really a lot of us, and there are a lot of concerts and we could easily have a lot of people from each city coming back to meet us, if it results in making their cities and their countries and ultimately the world a better place, then just tell me when can we start this?

I am off to seize the day, and will keep you updated here and at all of our “Official Megadeth Circle of Sites.” ANd you can get periodic updates from me and the other band members from TheLiveLine. Just check out their numbers and call them. There is going to be a new site launched for TheLiveLine in the near future and the behind the seens work that is going on is fascinating. I can’t wait to bring this to you “LIVE!”

7 Last Action Hero Soundtrack – (Release Year – 1993)

Some of you are probably wondering why I would cover a fifteen year old movie soundtrack at HRH, but I have a very good reason to do so.

Chances are, you probably have seen this clunker of a movie featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger.  This is one of the rare cases where the movie soundtrack is actually better than the movie itself.

A couple of wees ago, I started looking for rare cuts from Tesla, and discovered that they performed the title track to the movie “Last Action Hero”.  While I didn’t remember the song, I saw the list of bands on this sound track and couldn’t resist picking this up.  I secured a copy off of Amazon.com for 1 cent plus shipping.

The soundtrack has the following songs:

1. AC/DC  – Big Gun
2. Alice in Chains – What the Hell Have I
3. Megadeth – Angry Again
4. Queensryche – Real World
5. Def Leppard – Two Steps Behind
6. Anthrax – Poison My Eyes
7. Aerosmith – Dream On (Live Version)
8. Alice In Chains – A Little Bitter
9. Cypress Hill – Cock the Hammer
10. Fishbone – Swim
11. Tesla –  Last Action Hero
12. Michael Kamen With Buckethead – Jack and the Ripper

You can’t really go wrong with a soundtrack that has AC/DC, Alice in Chains, Megadeth, Queensryche, Def Leppard, Anthrax, Aerosmith and Tesla on it.

This is the only place you will find the Tesla cut, “Last Action Hero”.  This also has a semi rare cut from Megadeth “Angry Again” which originally only available on the Hidden Treasures CD, but can now also be found in the Megadeth Warchest CD box set, or the newer greatest hits disc Anthology.

This also the only place you will find the AC/DC song “Big Gun” (in the video below).

I didn’t really care for the Alice in Chains songs, but the rest of the stuff on this disc is pretty good. For one penny plus shipping, it was a worthy purchase.  You can find a copy for of the CD, at this link.

1 HEAVY METAL TITANS JUDAS PRIEST ANNOUNCE 7 DATE ‘PRIEST FEAST’ ARENA TOUR

  • October 1, 2008
  • by Rob Rockitt
  • · Hard Rock Music

One of the worlds most popular and influential Heavy Metal bands – Judas Priest are set to rock the UK to it’s very core when they bring their ‘Priest Feast’ tour to play 7 arena dates in February 2009 with support from special guests – Thrash Metal veterans Megadeth and Testament.

Since 1974, Judas Priest has been one of heavy metal’s most successful bands, issuing such all-time classic albums as 1980’s ‘British Steel,’ 1982’s ‘Screaming for Vengeance,’ and 1990’s ‘Painkiller,’ and such arena-rocking anthems as “Breaking the Law,” “Living After Midnight,” and “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’.” However, Priest’s influence goes far beyond their music – they were the first metal band to embrace the ‘leather biker look,’ a fashion that has since become synonymous with the musical genre. Additionally, Halford’s powerful four-and-a-half octave vocal range and the twin guitar harmonies of Downing and Tipton have been ‘studied’ by countless metal bands in Priest’s wake.

Think ‘Double vinyl, gatefold sleeve concept album,’ and some of rock’s all-time classic recordings come to mind. But in the realm of heavy metal, there has never been a double vinyl (now disc!) concept album that has managed to balance a thought-provoking storyline with metallic thunder. That was, until now. Metal legends JUDAS PRIEST released their sprawling double disc concept album, ‘Nostradamus’ via Columbia Records on Monday, June 16th in the UK/Europe, and a day later in the US on Epic Records.

MEGADETH
As one of the most commercially successful heavy metal bands of all time, Megadeth have sold more than 20 million albums worldwide, including six consecutive platinum albums, with seven consecutive Grammy nominations for Best Metal Performance. Megadeth has remained a vital element in continuing to define and redefine the sound and the fury of metal music and with each new album, forges new ground and stretches the very boundaries where metal lives.

TESTAMENT
Testament was one of the first thrash metal bands to emerge from the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1980’s. Undoubtedly, they are the inventors of the thrash-metal wheel. Testament’s powerful sound, influence, and longevity make them one of the Top 5 All-Time Legendary Thrash Metal Bands, putting them in the company of Slayer, Megadeth, Metallica, and Anthrax. They re-formed with the original line up (vocalist ChuckBilly, guitarists Eric Peterson & Alex Skolnick, and bassist Greg Christian – along with friend and former member, Paul Bostaph) to record their 9th studio album – their first in nearly a decade entitled ‘Formation of Damnation’ (released April this year) which also won them ‘Best Album’ at the Metal Hammer ‘Golden Gods’ Awards this summer.

Having the opportunity to see 3 such important and influential bands within the world of Metal on the same bill is cause for excitement. Make sure you don’t miss the chance to witness Metal history in the making and ensure you are part of Priest Feast 2009.

Following the successful 2007 release of the coveted 4-CD+DVD Warchest box set, Megadeth is back with a vengeance with Anthology: Set The World Afire. The career-spanning 2-CD and digital collection, to be released September 30 by Capitol/EMI, features Megadeth’s top hits and fan favorites, a previously unreleased demo and two rare concert recordings.

Anthology: Set The World Afire is loaded with 35 electrifying tracks, among them Megadeth’s top hits, including “Trust,” “A Tout Le Monde,” “Insomnia” and “Train of Consequences.” Also included are rare 1992 concert recordings of “Peace Sells” and “Symphony of Destruction,” previously available only in limited release, the latter having never been released in the U.S.  “High Speed Dirt” is a demo version, previously unreleased.

Iconic frontman Dave Mustaine pioneered the hugely successful metal band, Megadeth after his departure from Metallica.  Beginning with the band’s 1985 debut album, Killing Is My Business…And Business Is Good!, and evolving through a shifting series of lineups, Megadeth crafted a dynamic, intelligent style that combined the aggressiveness of thrash metal, the improvisational nature of jazz, and cynical, articulate, politically-charged lyrics into an innovative mix that built a rabid worldwide following.

In 1992, Megadeth burst into the mainstream with their fifth album, Countdown To Extinction, which debuted at #2 on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums chart and went on to sell more than two million copies in the U.S. alone.  1994’s Youthanasia followed with a #4 debut, while 1997’s Cryptic Writings yielded four Top 20 hits at rock radio, including “Trust” and “Almost Honest.”

After a brief hiatus in 2002, Megadeth made a bold return when their tenth studio album, The System Has Failed, debuted at #18 on Billboard’s Top 200.

In recent years, Mustaine has also overseen the broad remastering campaign for Megadeth’s Capitol Records catalog, which began with the band’s second album, Peace Sells…But Who’s Buying? Mustaine spent months remixing, remastering, restoring – and in some cases, reconstructing – the band’s Capitol catalog to bring it as close to his original vision as possible.  Each reissue and last year’s career-spanning Warchest box set is packed with unreleased tracks, demos and alternate mixes, as well as new liner notes by the iconoclastic Mustaine.

For the majority of three decades, Megadeth has yanked heavy metal into the future – musically, lyrically, and culturally – and worked the raw soil into something desirable and dangerous. With defiance and grace, through unusual quality and intelligence, Megadeth has raised a generation on a diet of truth serum and bitter pills. Instead of being kicked to the curb for their insolence, they’ve been rewarded with seven Grammy nominations and five platinum and multi-platinum albums.

On September 30, Megadeth will continue to build on this powerful legacy with Anthology: Set The World Afire and will prove once again that they are an indispensable part of heavy metal history.
