1 SAMMY HAGAR ROCKS 66 WITH 24th ANNUAL BIRTHDAY BASH IN CABO SAN LUCAS, MEXICO
AND CELEBRITY CHEFS EMERIL LAGASSE AND GUY FIERI
Sammy Hagar celebrated his 66th Birthday with an epic jam session that closed out his 23rd annual Birthday Bash at his Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico last night, Sunday, October 13. Sammy was joined by his band mates past and present including Michael Anthony (Chickenfoot, Van Halen), Denny Carmassi (Montrose) and his band, The Wabos for hits spanning his four decades in music before Alex González, the drummer from legendary, highest-selling Latin American band, Maná surprised him on stage to jam on songs “Poundcake,” “Runaround” and “Best of Both Worlds.”
Also joining Hagar’s Birthday Bash were his celeb Chef buddies Emeril Lagasse and Guy Fieri, who introduced the The Red Rocker to a standing-room-only club of fans who’d lined up hours in advance and braved rain to get prime access to the birthday concert. Fans who were not able to join Sammy in Cabo can watch the exclusive birthday bash special on AXS TV on Oct 27.
Earlier in the week Hagar treated audiences to a surprise show, featuring his first ever album run- through concert. On Saturday, October 5 Sammy and the Wabos rocked through each track, in running order, of his new hit album Sammy Hagar & Friends, released Sept 24 via Frontiers Records. His wife Kari Hagar even joined in singing harmonies on “All We Need Is an Island” to close out the show.
On Saturday, Oct.12 Hagar and Chef Emeril Lagasse hosted their 8th annual auction dinner to benefit Lagasse’s Emeril Lagasse Foundation. This was the duo’s final Cabo Birthday Bash pairing, which to date has raised more than $2 million for the non-profit.
0 New Video – Chickenfoot – Three and a Half Letters (I Need A Job)
CHICKENFOOT, the supergroup featuring guitarist Joe Satriani, drummer Kenny Aronoff, former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony and frontman Sammy Hagar – debuts their new music video for the song “Three and a Half Letters (I Need a Job)” today.
The song, from their recent release, “CHICKENFOOT III” ( eOne Music/Edel/EarMusic) is motivated by the dismal job economy and features letters that were sent to Hagar as pleas for help. “CHICKENFOOT” is partnering with Feeding America to encourage fans to help alleviate some of the effects of the job economy. The band will perform “Three and a Half Letters (I Need a Job)” on Jimmy Kimmel Live on the evening of November 3rd.
“I received a lot of letters from people over the years who were looking for help or work and recently I received one from an Afghan War Veteran that ended with ‘Can you help? I need a job’ that just really hit me and the song came together,” said Hagar. “We really want to encourage anyone to help where they can and I think one of the easiest ways is by making contributions to their local food banks so I hope we get that message across in this video and while we are on tour.”
“I Need a Job,” directed by Arthur Rosato (Springsteen, Bonnaroo), features the real life letters received by Hagar and closes with a call to action in partnership with Feeding America. Beginning today, the band is inviting fans to post their own letters and stories to their website in hopes it will help them find employment and continue to shed light on the critical condition in America. The band is also planning on additional outreach to bring more awareness to the issue in each city on their upcoming “Road Test Tour.” While those who are better off may not be able to offer actual jobs, Chickenfoot believes that contributions to food banks in their hometowns is one simple way, among many others, that fans can help firsthand on a local level.
The band is set to embark on the recently announced “2011 Road Test Tour,” beginning November 1st at the Warfield Theatre, San Francisco. The tour will take the band (Satriani, Anthony, Hagar and touring drummer Kenny Aronoff) through five US and five European cities in support of their most recent release Chickenfoot III, which debuted on the Billboard album chart at #9. “CHICKENFOOT III”, has continued to receive critical acclaim:
“It’s a rare case of a group that’s equal to – or perhaps even greater than – the sum of its parts…this is an album that really wins hearts with its granite thump’n’roll.” – Gary Graff, Billboard.
“CHICKENFOOT III” features 10 tracks with so many moments of epiphany that one can barely take them all in on first listen. Colossal, stadium-shaking riffs abound on earth-movers such as “Alright, Alright,” “Last Temptation” and “Lighten Up.” Tradition meets innovation on the Nashville pop-tinged “Different Devil,” the Delta-blues flavored “Something Going Wrong” and the aching rock ballad “Come Closer.” Special video releases and more can be seen at the band’s webpage , as well as their podcast, YouTube, Facebook and Google+ pages. Chickenfoot III follows the band’s 2009 debut album, which debuted at #3 on the Billboard Top 100 and was certified gold for sales of over 500,000 units by the Recording Industry Association of America.

2 Chickenfoot – Chickenfoot III (2011)
The most highly hyped album of 2011, Chickenfoot III is finally here! The hype machine has been in full gear for several weeks for the latest opus from Chickenfoot. Sammy Hagar has called this his best work to date. I usually don’t buy into all of this hysteria. As much as I love Sammy I think he has had a few “Mas Tequila’s” to make a statement like that… but I digress.
So what are my expectations on a new Chickenfoot album? With Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony, Chad Smith and Sammy Hagar making music together, I would expect something on the level of Van Halen. Their debut together was good, but not quite what I expected. I have the same feelings about Chickenfoot III, however this album is definitely better than the band’s debut.
This album is a bit of a grower. The music is good, if not exceptional in most cases. Joe Satriani absolutely brings it for Chickenfoot’s sophomore long player. His guitar work on this album, is easily his best yet for Chickenfoot. His guitar solos are pure hard rock perfection. I couldn’t be happier with this guitar playing.
Sammy Hagar’s vocals are always top notch, and the Red Rocker proves he is still on the top of his game on Chickenfoot III. The trademark sound of Van Halen returns on Chickenfoot III as Michael Anthony provides plenty of his higher octave background vocals. I love hearing Mikey sing with Sammy! This always brings me some happy Van Halen memories. He gets plenty of opportunities to do so on Chickenfoot III.
After the first couple of spins, I have to admit that I wasn’t super impressed with Chickenfoot III, but my opinion has changed after multiple listens. This is the type of album that takes a few plays to fully appreciate. This is a deeper record, and a little more complex than the debut. It takes a little more for it to sink in (At least it did for me).
I have played Chickenfoot III several times now and there are a few tracks that I believe could be radio hits.
The standout tracks are “Alright, Alright”, “Different Devil”, and the album’s first single “Big Foot”and “Dubai Blues”. “Up Next” has some pretty cool lyrics that I get a kick out of each time I hear it. “Dubai Blues” is quickly becoming one of my favorites. The hidden bonus track “No Change” is pretty cool too!
So the bottomline is this: Is Chickenfoot III worth picking up? Absolutely!! Is this Sammy Hagar’s best work? I don’t think so, but it is still pretty damn good. The scary thing is, I don’t think we have heard the best from Chickenfoot yet. If you enjoyed the first Chickenfoot album, you are going to like this one too.
On a side note, You ought to purchase the CD, instead of the digital downloads. If you don’t, you are missing out on a cool special edition of this CD that comes complete with a set of 3D glasses, and pictures of (you guessed it) Chickenfoot in 3D. The special edition also includes a cool Making of Bonus DVD, which made me appreciate Chickenfoot III that much more.
Chickenfoot III hit stores on Tuesday September 27th. You can pick up the bonus edition at this link!

CHICKENFOOT heightens the worldwide buzz from the rock supergroup’s incendiary arrival last year with the Blu-ray and DVD release of CHICKENFOOT: GET YOUR BUZZ ON “LIVE” — one of the most highly anticipated live rock ’n’ roll concert experiences of 2010. The Blu-ray and DVD, including an hysterically innovative bonus documentary, will be released Tuesday, May 4 by DC3 Music Group, LLC, following a series of virtual concert screenings at select theaters nationwide and a live concert webcast from Cabo San Lucas, set for April 24 (10 p.m. CST) at BestBuy.com.
Filmed with 16 hi-definition cameras over three sold out concerts, CHICKENFOOT: GET YOUR BUZZ ON “LIVE” offers fans an unforgettable once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience four rock ’n’ roll legends — vocalist Sammy Hagar (ex-Van Halen, Montrose), bassist Michael Anthony (ex-Van Halen), drummer Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers) and guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani – sharing their explosive musicianship and dynamic chemistry on-stage and off.
As fun as they are on stage, CHICKENFOOT is just plain funny offstage. That’s the uniqueness of the offbeat bonus documentary, jam-packed with exclusive, never-before-seen backstage footage, rare interviews and extra performance video. The band members unconventionally take control of the interviews by instead conducting — or misconducting — them in their own individual styles. Their prank victims are show biz pals Bob Weir, Adam Carolla and Spinal Tap’s Nigel Tufnel, as well as the unsuspecting public, who get ambushed throughout the documentary man-in-the-street-style by Smith, asking whether they’ve ever heard of the band CHICKENFOOT and can recognize their faces in a publicity photo. You’ll be tickled at most of the answers, knowing the band’s debut album went No. 4 in Billboard and gold all over the world.
Hagar drops in on Weir at home by Hagar, and uncovers the last time the former Grateful Dead lead singer dropped acid and what gets his buzz on these days. Anthony shares backstage couch time, CHICKENFOOT merchandise and chicken wings with Carolla. And Satriani buzzes around venues on both sides of the Atlantic with “Joe-Cam” firmly mounted to his head before allowing Nigel Tufnel (alias Christopher Guest) some not-so-serious interview time.
CHICKENFOOT’s self-titled debut album, released in heat sensitive packaging, has sold over 750,000 copies and has been a Top 10 radio mainstay since its release last June. (The fourth single, “My Kinda Girl,” is at classic and mainstream rock radio now). The band embarked on a small North American club tour, performed in Europe in the summer and returned to North America to perform two sold out summer tours, followed by another in the fall.
The electrifying, hi-energy concert performances were filmed in hi-definition last summer by award-winning director Daniel E. Catullo III (Rush, Creed, Godsmack, Smashing Pumpkins) and mixed in DTS 5.1 Surround Sound by Mike Fraser.
The Blu-ray and DVD features one full concert shot at the Dodge Theater in Phoenix on Sept. 23rd, 2009, plus live segments from shows last fall at the Tabernacle in Atlanta and The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in Cleveland, plus a bonus photo gallery.

3 Rob Rockitt’s Top 13 of 2009
It seems like every year I put together a top list at Hard Rock Hideout, it becomes a harder task. In 2009, there was a crazy amount of excellent releases, and choosing the best ten was a daunting task to say the least. It was too hard to pick ten, so of course, I had to add some additional releases to my top list. The following releases are my top of 2009. All of these are worth picking up, and I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase any of these a second time. Check them out and see what you think!
#13 Shake City – S/T
Eonian Records has released quite a few undiscovered gems in 2009. Their best release of 2009 is easily Shake City. Shake City features the original singer of Warrant, Adam Shore. I don’t know why Adam left Warrant, but the fates should have been kinder to his band Shake City. If this CD would have been released twenty years ago, this disc could have easily gone platinum. It is better than many of the hair metal releases of the late 80’s. It is a crime that this band didn’t get the mainstream success of their peers. If you are a hair metal fan, you need to find this CD now. You wont be disappointed.
#12 Papa Roach – Metamorphosis
Papa Roach started introducing songs from Metamorphosis into their live sets in 2008, and as a result, I was familiar with several of the tunes by the time this CD was released. In my opinion, this is the strongest Papa Roach CD to date, with several hit worthy tunes. A worthy pick up for the modern rock fans out there.
#11 Cheap Trick – The Latest
I must admit that I have never been the biggest Cheap Trick fan over the years, but I can not deny how good their latest CD, The Latest is. While this may not be the most rocking CD of 2009, it does have some fun rockers, and is quality music all the way through. Robin Zander still sounds great after all of these years. This is a must own CD for Cheap Trick fans, all others ought to give it a shot.
#10 Chickenfoot – S/T
This is another CD that I didn’t really know what to expect. Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony have been playing together in Van Halen for years, but how would this new band work out with Joe Satriani and Chad Smith? Satriani’s playing on this CD is great, and when he does cut loose, he doesn’t over shadow the rest of the band. Overall, Chickenfoot is a supergroup that could have some legs. I hope these guys stick around for a few more releases. Van Halen’s other half still delivers.
#9 The Answer – Everyday Demons
The Answer’s debut CD Rise was one of my favorites of 2007. I had high expectations for their U.S. Debut, Everyday Demons. Luckily, it did not disappoint me in the least. Everyday Demons is powered by Zeppelin influenced rockers “Demon Eyes”, “On and On” “Walkin’ Mat”. The band couldn’t have asked for a bigger tour to be on in 2009. Opening up for AC/DC has gained them a ton of new fans. I can’t wait to see what the band has in store for us next. The only thing I didn’t like about Everyday Demons was cover art.
#8 Steel Panther – Feel the Steel
Steel Panther could be the greatest hair metal parody band of all time. Feel the Steel is packed full of tongue in cheek lyrics that many folks may find offensive. You can’t deny the stellar musicianship of these California rockers. I had the opportunity to see the band play at M3 earlier this year, and they did not disappoint. When is the U.S. Club tour guys?
#7 Charm City Devils – Let’s Rock N’ Roll
Who would have thought that drummer John Allen would front a new kick ass rock and roll band in 2009? I didn’t at all. I have been rockin’ with CCD’s debut CD since its release. This is quality hard rock all the way through. In case you missed it, Charm City Devils had a pretty big year with their opening slot on the 2009 Cruefest. I am still hopeful that they will do a club tour, (and break out some Child Play tunes in their set).
#6 KISS – Sonic Boom
Sonic Boom is the first KISS CD in a long time that I have been able to listen to, all the way through without skipping a song. While I don’t consider this CD their best, it is definitely in their top ten, if not top five CD’s of all time. I didn’t expect this CD to be much. Sonic Boom was one of 2009’s biggest surprises.
#5 Coldspell – Infinite Stargaze
When I first heard the demo tracks from Coldspell in 2008, I about crapped myself. I couldn’t wait to hear Coldspell’s debut CD. I have played this CD over and over again in 2009, and will continue to do so for years to come. This is melodic rock at its finest.
#4 Winger – Karma
Holy Crap?! I get the feeling that Kip Winger and Reb Beach were pissed off when they wrote this record. This is easily the heaviest Winger album to date. Reb Beach unleashes his fury on his six strings, and Karma shines as a result. The songs aren’t all heavy, but they are all top quality. I am hopeful that Kip and company will tour for this album in 2010. Great Stuff, and worthy to be in anyone’s collection.
#3 Black Robot – S/T
Black Robot – I had no expectations when I first heard Black Robot’s self titled effort. I figured any band with former Buckcherry members would probably rock, but I had no idea that I would enjoy this CD as much as I have. “Cocaine” is easily the best cover song I have heard in 2009. Black Robot
gets the nod for best new band of 2009. If you missed this CD when it was released earlier this year, you will have to wait to grab this in 2010. The original pressing is out of print, but Black Robot will be re-releasing this CD next year with bonus tracks !!
#2 Paul Gilbert & Freddie Nelson – United States
United States has been my feelgood CD of 2009. Paul Gilbert’s guitar work is quite impressive, and Freddie Nelson’s mimicry of Freddie Mercury is pretty incredible. Once I started playing this, I couldn’t stop. Absolutely fantastic music!
#1 The Last Vegas – Whatever Gets You Off
The Last Vegas has been rocking hard since 2003, but their 2009 CD, Whatever Gets You Off is easily their breakthrough release. It didn’t hurt that they had a little help from Nikki Sixx, and DJ Ashba who produced this disc. I still don’t understand why this band didn’t get the nod for Cruefest last summer. They seemed tailor made for that festival but the promoters didn’t ask for my advice. Whatever Gets You Off is crazy good. Apologize might be the biggest power ballad of this decade (no I am not kidding). This is another great party CD, and easily my favorite of 2009.

9 Basic Tracks For CHICKENFOOT Album Complete
Former VAN HALEN bassist Michael Anthony has issued the following update:
“Whew, is it Holiday season again already?? I hope all of you had a great year, and are ready to finish it off in grand style!! First, I want to wish everyone out there Happy Holidays, and a Happy New Year!! Party hard, but party safe. Second, I want to update you on the status of CHICKENFOOT. Chad (Smith – RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS drummer) and I just got back this week from recording in the San Francisco area, and I am pleased to say that the basic tracks are finished and smokin’!! Right now Joe is sprinkling some guitar magic on everything, and next week Sam will be doing vocals. Then I’ll be back up there to slather some backround vocals on everything. I can’t wait for all of you to check it out!! Look out 2009!!!!”
Chickenfoot also features guitarist JOE SATRIANI and former Van Halen singer SAMMY HAGAR.
1 Chickenfoot Hits the Studio
As reported by Billboard.com:
After playing together live for the first time last February during a solo Sammy Hagar concert in Las Vegas, a new group featuring the ex-Van Halen vocalist, bassist Michael Anthony, guitarist Joe Satriani and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith is making an album.
“We were very excited about that show,” tells Billboard.com. “We had never played together before and when we walked off stage, we looked at each other like, ‘Wow, there’s a connection here. We should do something about it.’ So last week we were together for five days and we recorded nine tracks.
“As soon as Sammy and myself finish touring our separate solo tours we’ll reconvene in Northern California and finish the record,” he continues. “We hope to mix the album in January, have it ready for April and then we’ll follow it up with a tour.”
While the group was reportedly going to call itself Chickenfoot, Satriani said this was only a Hagar working title with a new band name expected closer to the release of the album.
“The style is high-energy, kick-ass rock’n’roll,” says Satriani, who is about to begin a stateside tour in support of his latest solo album, “Professor Satchafunkilus and the Musterion of Rock.” “We all bring to the table some unusual influences and then we also share a lot of roots. And I think that’s where a true color of a band comes out, just how we react to each other. So, it’s definitely rock music. We haven’t brought each other together to do a techno record.”
He adds, “We’ll draw from funk, blues and experimental. We know what we want to get out of it. We want passages in songs that develop and we want everyone’s personality to be able to come out. So, it’s going to be expansive but it’s going to be rough.”
If the band’s three-song performance, which included Led Zeppelin’s “Rock and Roll” and Traffic’s “Dear Mr. Fantasy,” during the Hagar show encore is any indication, it appears that Smith is the glue that holds the unit together.
“The material is really slamming, and anybody who has ever been around Chad knows that he is a very huge personality, a very high-energy guy and his drumming in person is explosive,” Satriani says. “This band really gives him carte blanche to go crazy. I think it’s the best of what you’d expect, that’s the best way to put it. No one is acting out of character.”
0 Sammy Hagar’s Cosmic Universal Fashion Gets November Release Date
Sammy Hagar is the first signing to new Roadrunner imprint Loud & Proud, which will focus on established artists. His label debut, “Cosmic Universal Fashion,” will arrive Nov. 18.
The album’s title track was written online by Hagar with an Iraqi rock fan named Steven Lost. The cut and its accompanying video, an homage to Van Halen’s text-heavy 1992 clip for “Right Now,” can be samples on Hagar’s Web site.
“‘Cosmic Universal Fashion‘ is not about supporting left or right, blue or red, but rather an attempt to appeal to people on a personal level to get involved,” says Hagar.
The album also includes the song “Loud,” featuring the Cult’s Billy Duffy and Matt Sorum along with former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony, and a cover of the Beastie Boys’ “Fight for Your Right To Party.”
Hagar was most recently signed to Rhino, which issued his 2006 album “Livin’ It Up.” The set has sold 52,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
