Multi-platinum guitar icon TED NUGENT has released the first single “She’s Gone” featuring Sammy Hagar–off his new studio album SHUTUP&JAM! (out Tuesday, July 8 on Frontiers Records).
Special guest Sammy Hagar brings his vocal power to “She’s Gone” for an epic lead vocal duet with NUGENT. The songalso features a special performance from one of the most respected drummers in rock, Johnny “Bee” Badanjek of the legendary Detroit band Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels. SHUTUP&JAM! marks the first all-new studio album from the Motor City Madman in seven years. NUGENT leads the pack of renowned musicians, handling guitar and vocal duties, alongside bassist Greg Smith, drummer Mick Brown and longtime musical cohort guitarist/vocalist Derek St. Holmes. SHUTUP&JAM! is available now for pre-order at Amazon and iTunes. “She’s Gone” is available as an instant grat oniTunes for fans who pre-order the album there (for those who don’t know, this means the song will automatically download to their iTunes once they complete the pre-order purchase).
NUGENT declares, “My guitar has never gently weeped, but she does suckerpunch me mercilessly at regular intervals. ‘She’s Gone’ is just another example of what we do together every day after I complete my ranch chores at home in Texas, and the MotorCity soulmusic slugfest erupts into spiritual love songs like this. Sammy Hagar said he wasn’t interested in writing or singing any more pop songs, so he fell in love with this masterpiece jammout instantly. Clearly Sammy and I deserve each other. And she’s gone.”
HAGAR shares of his involvement on the track “She’s Gone”:“When I first heard Ted’s demo of this song, I immediately responded with ‘I’m in.’ Ted’s ripping the guitar like the days of old…very inspiring to sing to a track like that—old-school blues riff, hard edged rock ‘n roll on fire!!!”
To coincide with the release of SHUTUP&JAM!, TED has announced that he’s packing up and hitting the road. This past weekend (6/7) he joined Black Sabbath, Alice Cooper, Volbeat and other rock titans at the Sweden Rock Festival in Sölvesborg, Sweden. Now he’s gearing up for his national headlining tour that kicks off July 3 in Wichita Falls, TX (full tour itinerary below). 0 CONCERT TRIBUTE FOR ROCK GUITAR LEGEND RONNIE MONTROSE HEADING TO DVD
When Ronnie Montrose passed away on March 3, 2012, friends and musicians immediately wondered what they could do to pay homage to one of rock’s all-time legendary – and influential – guitarists. The result was some of music’s most renowned artists uniting for a concert only a month and a half later (April 27) and performing Ronnie classics throughout the evening – which will now make its official DVD release on December 10, 2013, ‘Concert for Ronnie Montrose – A Celebration of His Life In Music.’
Recorded in San Francisco at the historic Regency Ballroom and mixed in 5.1 surround sound, the DVD features performance by Ronnie’s past band members in Montrose (Sammy Hagar, Denny Carmassi, Bill Church with Joe Satriani), Gamma (Davey Pattison, Denny Carmassi and Glenn Letsch with Marc Bonilla), performing both groups’ hits.
Additionally, Ronnie’s colleagues and people he mentored and produced over the 40 years of his career are featured as well, including Neal Schon (Journey), Ricky Phillips (Styx), Steve Smith (ex-Journey), Ed Roth, Jimmy Paxson (Stevie Nicks), Jeff Watson (ex-Night Ranger), Tesla, Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer (Kiss), Eric Martin (Mr. Big), and more.
The DVD will also include interviews, bonus features, a photo gallery, and an additional set of Ronnie’s hits by an all-star band featuring Chuck Terpo, Mario Cipollina, Tal Morris, Dave Meniketti and the members of Y&T. This was recorded and filmed at Bob Weir’s TRI Studios.
A trailer can be viewed below.
The iconic and legendary Ronnie Montrose has been called the Father Of American Hard Rock – an innovator and an incendiary guitar genius. In his short time with Van Morrison Ronnie created the iconic guitar riff for the classic song “Wild Nights”. In the Edgar Winter group he left even a bigger Mark with his catchy heavy-handed riffs on songs like “Free Ride” and “Frankenstein”. But it would be his self-titled release, MONTROSE that would become the cornerstone of American hard rock. This debut in 1973 crafted such classics as “Rock the Nation”, “Bad Motor Scooter,” and “Space Station #5.” It laid the ground work and became the template for bands like Van Halen and countless subsequent musicians. His musical Journey lead him to the creation of GAMMA where he crafted songs like “Voyager”, “Thunder And Lighting” and “Ready For Action”. Ronnie was always searching and reinventing himself musically. Venturing through a brief instrumental period he brought us both “Open Fire” and his masterpiece version of “Town Without Pity”.
And now, fans will be able to experience the music of Ronnie once again, with the new DVD, ‘Concert for Ronnie Montrose – A Celebration of His Life In Music.’

0 RIVAL SONS Announce U.S. Tour Dates Kicking Off August 20; Select Tour Dates With Sammy Hagar
Maximum-blues-infused, rock ’n’ roll band RIVAL SONS are excited to announce a 14-city tour beginning August 20 with stops including Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Louis and Lake Tahoe, wrapping in San Francisco September 7 (full tour itinerary below). The Long Beach, CA-based group has been invited to perform a select number of shows with one of their hometown heroes, Sammy Hagar, on his “Four Decades of Rock” summer tour.
Guitarist Scott Holiday says, “Well, we’re finally hittin’ our homeland for a handful of tour dates. Ask and ye shall receive! And what a cool thing to get to go out and support a legend…and super cool fella like Mr. Sammy Hagar! I think this one’s gonna be a blast.”
Hagar has been a fan of the Rival Sons for a while, since he first heard their 2009 debut Before The Fire. “These guys are the real thing,” says Hagar. “Their first CD was great, showing off a lot of styles from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. These boys have done their homework…now road-tested. The Sons have made a CD (Head Down) that truly lives up to the band’s name. This is a giant step from a great previous CD…not easy. But for those that like classic rock but are tired of the same old songs, I highly recommend this CD…and even better, go see ’em live–they deliver.” Hagar and RIVAL SONS frontman, Jay Buchanan, come from the same town of Fontana, CA.
RIVAL SONS—Jay Buchanan (vocals), Scott Holiday (guitar), Robin Everhart (bass) and Michael Miley (drums)–just concluded an international headlining tour with shows in Canada, Europe and the U.K. as well as a string of dates in the Midwest U.S. May 29-June 4. REAL DETROIT WEEKLY recently noted of their packed show at St. Andrew’s Hall: “These guys not only have the sound, but the look and the mojo to make anyone pay attention.” (6/5) EXAMINER.com exclaimed of the show at Reggie’s in Chicago, “Rival Sons cast a spell…” (6/9)
The band is on the road supporting their third album HEAD DOWN (released March 19th on Century Media Records), which reached #1 on the Rock chart in 2012 in the U.K., garnered the group four-star reviews (including Mojo and the Guardian) overseas as well as magazine covers and the “Breakthrough Artist” award at the 2012 Classic Rock Awards show in London. The album features “Keep On Swinging,” which hit #1 on the Active Rock Radio Charts in Canada and remained at the top for six straight weeks. The band made their major national television debut when they performed “Keep On Swinging” on ABC-TV’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” in March, which can be viewed here: http://www.hulu.com/watch/464788
RIVAL SONS are also set to perform two shows at the Telluride Festival, July 13 in Colorado. They’ll perform a main stage show during the day along with Steve Earle, Rodrigo y Gabriela and Big Head Todd & The Monsters. They’ll also perform a headlining show that night at Telluride’s Sheridan Opera House. See the full line-up here: http://www.ridefestival.com/home/schedule/

About RIVAL SONS:
Long Beach band Rival Sons are a raucous, maximum-blues-infused, rock ‘n’ roll band that explode with the rhythm and thrill of some of the greatest live acts of all time. From their 2011 album Pressure & Time to this year’s breakthrough Head Down the strength of their live performances has gained the band major attention everywhere. Recent accolades include, a stint opening up for Guns ‘n’ Roses last year, plus legends like Judas Priest, AC/DC and Alice Cooper, and playing the likes of Download festival, Rock Am Ring, Sonisphere, T in the Park, to name a few European festivals.
Head Down charted at number 1 in the UK rock charts for several weeks and number 31 in the UK national chart. The band’s intense work agenda (with an aim to release an album a year), plus their grueling live schedule, have won the band a reputation for hard-graft. In the studio the band commit themselves to creating an experience that closely matches the attitude and excitement of their live performance. Right off a four-week stint on the road, Rival Sons wrote, recorded, and mixed the album in just twenty days; ensuring rawness for both the listener and the band.
In October 2012, Rival Sons finished up their UK leg of the sold out European “Head Down” tour with a fantastic show at the Electric Ballroom, introduced on stage by legendary presenter Bob Harris (of the Old Grey Whistle Test), and with Jimmy Page in the audience.
Bob Harris: “Absolutely love this band…I had such a great night with them when they played in London, I introduced them onstage, Jimmy Page turned up backstage just before the band went onstage it was an incredible evening and I really think they’re something special…”
Garnering fans amongst music-lovers, celebrities, indie-kids, rockers and comedians alike…
Juliette Lewis: “Holy shit! I think you’re my new fave band!! Good god I love your groove!”
Vic Reeves (comedian): “The new Rival Sons LP kicks your arse way off into outer space them retrieves it and kisses it goodnight.”
And last week, Corey Taylor cited the band as his new favorite on “That Metal Show” with Eddie Trunk saying, “My favorite new band…it’s the Rival Sons. They are really good. There is something about that band that is very Zeppelin-esque. The best 70s album that nobody ever heard.”
At the end of last year Classic Rock magazine made Rival Sons the cover stars of their November issue, and Head Down was voted the no.2 album of the year by the editorial team. Despite the achievements and following Rival Sons have already attained, any member of the band will say creating quality music and leaving a lasting impression is what matters most, and now they hope to convert their home country as they have already converted Europe.
More Praise For RIVAL SONS’ HEAD DOWN here:
“…Rival Sons are doggedly establishing themselves as a vital force for the modern age…the Californians’ third album is a riotous carnival of Zep-saluting riffs, sunkissed psychedelia and irresistible hooks, with the band’s soul, funk and blues influences thrust joyously to the fore…If you thrilled to the Black Keys’ El Camino, it’s time to meet your new favourite band.”
—GUARDIAN (UK), September 13, 2012 (4-out-of-5 star review)
“You know the guys who complain today’s rock doesn’t hold a candle to the ’70s stuff?
They haven’t heard this.”
—USA TODAY, November 13, 2012
“There’s a soulfulness and strut which puts them in a different league.”
—UNCUT (U.K.) August 1, 2011
“Balls-to-the-walls blues-rawk!…undeniable.”
—NEW YORK DAILY NEWS, October 7, 2012
“Bluesy, ballsy and real.”
—AOL’s NOISECREEP.COM, November 12, 2012
“…they sure as hell are a good time.”
—PENTHOUSE, February 23, 2013
“This is a band of storytellers and Head Down is their manifesto…”
—VINTAGEROCK.COM, December 17, 2012
“Jay Buchanan uncorks a quavering vocal over Scott Holiday’s buzz-bomb guitar playing and Michael Miley’s barely controlled bashing of drums…it sounds like something Jimmy Page’s pre-Zeppelin band, the Yardbirds, might have done…‘A’ grade.”
—CAMPUS CIRCLE, November 14, 2012
“The grooves are deep and the vocals are of the chest-beating variety…”
— MUSICRADAR.COM, December 6, 2012
“Rival Sons give rock ‘n’ roll a much needed kick in the ass…It’s as timeless as it is tough, and it’s everything rock music needs and more…”
—ARTISTDIRECT.COM, December 4, 2012
“…hard rock band that explodes with rhythm and roughness similar to some of the greatest rock acts out there…the CD oozes energy of epic proportions led by the powerhouse single,

0 New Video – Chickenfoot – Three and a Half Letters (I Need A Job)
CHICKENFOOT, the supergroup featuring guitarist Joe Satriani, drummer Kenny Aronoff, former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony and frontman Sammy Hagar – debuts their new music video for the song “Three and a Half Letters (I Need a Job)” today.
The song, from their recent release, “CHICKENFOOT III” ( eOne Music/Edel/EarMusic) is motivated by the dismal job economy and features letters that were sent to Hagar as pleas for help. “CHICKENFOOT” is partnering with Feeding America to encourage fans to help alleviate some of the effects of the job economy. The band will perform “Three and a Half Letters (I Need a Job)” on Jimmy Kimmel Live on the evening of November 3rd.
“I received a lot of letters from people over the years who were looking for help or work and recently I received one from an Afghan War Veteran that ended with ‘Can you help? I need a job’ that just really hit me and the song came together,” said Hagar. “We really want to encourage anyone to help where they can and I think one of the easiest ways is by making contributions to their local food banks so I hope we get that message across in this video and while we are on tour.”
“I Need a Job,” directed by Arthur Rosato (Springsteen, Bonnaroo), features the real life letters received by Hagar and closes with a call to action in partnership with Feeding America. Beginning today, the band is inviting fans to post their own letters and stories to their website in hopes it will help them find employment and continue to shed light on the critical condition in America. The band is also planning on additional outreach to bring more awareness to the issue in each city on their upcoming “Road Test Tour.” While those who are better off may not be able to offer actual jobs, Chickenfoot believes that contributions to food banks in their hometowns is one simple way, among many others, that fans can help firsthand on a local level.
The band is set to embark on the recently announced “2011 Road Test Tour,” beginning November 1st at the Warfield Theatre, San Francisco. The tour will take the band (Satriani, Anthony, Hagar and touring drummer Kenny Aronoff) through five US and five European cities in support of their most recent release Chickenfoot III, which debuted on the Billboard album chart at #9. “CHICKENFOOT III”, has continued to receive critical acclaim:
“It’s a rare case of a group that’s equal to – or perhaps even greater than – the sum of its parts…this is an album that really wins hearts with its granite thump’n’roll.” – Gary Graff, Billboard.
“CHICKENFOOT III” features 10 tracks with so many moments of epiphany that one can barely take them all in on first listen. Colossal, stadium-shaking riffs abound on earth-movers such as “Alright, Alright,” “Last Temptation” and “Lighten Up.” Tradition meets innovation on the Nashville pop-tinged “Different Devil,” the Delta-blues flavored “Something Going Wrong” and the aching rock ballad “Come Closer.” Special video releases and more can be seen at the band’s webpage , as well as their podcast, YouTube, Facebook and Google+ pages. Chickenfoot III follows the band’s 2009 debut album, which debuted at #3 on the Billboard Top 100 and was certified gold for sales of over 500,000 units by the Recording Industry Association of America.

2 Chickenfoot – Chickenfoot III (2011)
The most highly hyped album of 2011, Chickenfoot III is finally here! The hype machine has been in full gear for several weeks for the latest opus from Chickenfoot. Sammy Hagar has called this his best work to date. I usually don’t buy into all of this hysteria. As much as I love Sammy I think he has had a few “Mas Tequila’s” to make a statement like that… but I digress.
So what are my expectations on a new Chickenfoot album? With Joe Satriani, Michael Anthony, Chad Smith and Sammy Hagar making music together, I would expect something on the level of Van Halen. Their debut together was good, but not quite what I expected. I have the same feelings about Chickenfoot III, however this album is definitely better than the band’s debut.
This album is a bit of a grower. The music is good, if not exceptional in most cases. Joe Satriani absolutely brings it for Chickenfoot’s sophomore long player. His guitar work on this album, is easily his best yet for Chickenfoot. His guitar solos are pure hard rock perfection. I couldn’t be happier with this guitar playing.
Sammy Hagar’s vocals are always top notch, and the Red Rocker proves he is still on the top of his game on Chickenfoot III. The trademark sound of Van Halen returns on Chickenfoot III as Michael Anthony provides plenty of his higher octave background vocals. I love hearing Mikey sing with Sammy! This always brings me some happy Van Halen memories. He gets plenty of opportunities to do so on Chickenfoot III.
After the first couple of spins, I have to admit that I wasn’t super impressed with Chickenfoot III, but my opinion has changed after multiple listens. This is the type of album that takes a few plays to fully appreciate. This is a deeper record, and a little more complex than the debut. It takes a little more for it to sink in (At least it did for me).
I have played Chickenfoot III several times now and there are a few tracks that I believe could be radio hits.
The standout tracks are “Alright, Alright”, “Different Devil”, and the album’s first single “Big Foot”and “Dubai Blues”. “Up Next” has some pretty cool lyrics that I get a kick out of each time I hear it. “Dubai Blues” is quickly becoming one of my favorites. The hidden bonus track “No Change” is pretty cool too!
So the bottomline is this: Is Chickenfoot III worth picking up? Absolutely!! Is this Sammy Hagar’s best work? I don’t think so, but it is still pretty damn good. The scary thing is, I don’t think we have heard the best from Chickenfoot yet. If you enjoyed the first Chickenfoot album, you are going to like this one too.
On a side note, You ought to purchase the CD, instead of the digital downloads. If you don’t, you are missing out on a cool special edition of this CD that comes complete with a set of 3D glasses, and pictures of (you guessed it) Chickenfoot in 3D. The special edition also includes a cool Making of Bonus DVD, which made me appreciate Chickenfoot III that much more.
Chickenfoot III hit stores on Tuesday September 27th. You can pick up the bonus edition at this link!

3 Vie’s Verses – A Van Halen Fantasy
If you believe the rumors, it’s a great time to be a Van Halen fan. With Chickenfoot’s new album, Chickenfoot III in stores on September 27th and the rumored David Lee Roth led Van Halen album completed, this fall could be very Van Halen heavy. Add in the Hurtsmile CD from Gary Cherone, who led the extremely underrated VH III, and there’s a whole lot of Van Halen-esque music available for ear consumption. (PS – if you haven’t heard Hurtsmile, you really should check it out).
There’s even a possibility that both Van Halen and Chickenfoot could be on tour at the same time. That idea got me thinking of what the ultimate Van Halen tour would be. While this is high fantasy at its most extreme, I ask you to indulge with me momentarily as we imagine what could be. How amazing would it be if the following actually happened? How much money would you pay to see this fantasy become a reality?
Van Halen on tour with Chickenfoot and Hurtsmile. Now, I know that it’s never going to happen. I know that there is way too much bad blood for this exceptional idea to grow into a completed tour. However, imagine if it did. This is how I would envision the scenario.
Hurtsmile would obviously open the evening. They could perform hits from their debut album and mix in a couple of Extreme classics. Chickenfoot would come out next (sorry Sammy fans, but this is Van Halen’s show all the way) and rip into their performance. Songs from both of their releases, perhaps a little Satriani solo, and maybe even a couple of solo Sammy songs for good measure. Then it would be time for the headliners of the evening – Van Halen. Performing nothing but classics and songs off their latest album, Van Halen would rule the stage. Then Eddie would provide a mind boggling, blistering solo that would wow the crowd like never before. And that would only be the beginning.
After all of that greatness, Eddie and Satriani would step out on stage together for the first “encore”. It would be dueling guitars as they went back and forth. Joe versus Ed. The crowd, if they hadn’t fainted by this point, would be roaring so loud that the roof might cave in.
Then it would be time for “encore” number two. Van Halen back on the stage with Michael Anthony on Bass and Gary Cherone on lead vocals. They could play a song off VH3 (which hasn’t been performed live in 13 years). Next out, would be Sammy to take over the mic. Cue up “Dreams” or some other such beloved Van Hagar song.
And then, the ending of all endings could occur. Diamond Dave would walk out on stage while Sammy, Michael, and Gary are still there. Enter Joe Satriani and Wolfgang, and lead us into the all-star jam to end all all-star jams! Eddie and Joe on lead guitar. Michael and Wolfgang on bass. Alex on drums. Sammy, Dave, and Gary trading versus on some superior classic rock song (probably a Led Zeppelin tune). How amazing would that be?
Now, I ask you honestly, how much would you pay to see that concert? I know that I would pay top dollar and then some. How about you?

CHICKENFOOT heightens the worldwide buzz from the rock supergroup’s incendiary arrival last year with the Blu-ray and DVD release of CHICKENFOOT: GET YOUR BUZZ ON “LIVE” — one of the most highly anticipated live rock ’n’ roll concert experiences of 2010. The Blu-ray and DVD, including an hysterically innovative bonus documentary, will be released Tuesday, May 4 by DC3 Music Group, LLC, following a series of virtual concert screenings at select theaters nationwide and a live concert webcast from Cabo San Lucas, set for April 24 (10 p.m. CST) at BestBuy.com.
Filmed with 16 hi-definition cameras over three sold out concerts, CHICKENFOOT: GET YOUR BUZZ ON “LIVE” offers fans an unforgettable once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience four rock ’n’ roll legends — vocalist Sammy Hagar (ex-Van Halen, Montrose), bassist Michael Anthony (ex-Van Halen), drummer Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers) and guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani – sharing their explosive musicianship and dynamic chemistry on-stage and off.
As fun as they are on stage, CHICKENFOOT is just plain funny offstage. That’s the uniqueness of the offbeat bonus documentary, jam-packed with exclusive, never-before-seen backstage footage, rare interviews and extra performance video. The band members unconventionally take control of the interviews by instead conducting — or misconducting — them in their own individual styles. Their prank victims are show biz pals Bob Weir, Adam Carolla and Spinal Tap’s Nigel Tufnel, as well as the unsuspecting public, who get ambushed throughout the documentary man-in-the-street-style by Smith, asking whether they’ve ever heard of the band CHICKENFOOT and can recognize their faces in a publicity photo. You’ll be tickled at most of the answers, knowing the band’s debut album went No. 4 in Billboard and gold all over the world.
Hagar drops in on Weir at home by Hagar, and uncovers the last time the former Grateful Dead lead singer dropped acid and what gets his buzz on these days. Anthony shares backstage couch time, CHICKENFOOT merchandise and chicken wings with Carolla. And Satriani buzzes around venues on both sides of the Atlantic with “Joe-Cam” firmly mounted to his head before allowing Nigel Tufnel (alias Christopher Guest) some not-so-serious interview time.
CHICKENFOOT’s self-titled debut album, released in heat sensitive packaging, has sold over 750,000 copies and has been a Top 10 radio mainstay since its release last June. (The fourth single, “My Kinda Girl,” is at classic and mainstream rock radio now). The band embarked on a small North American club tour, performed in Europe in the summer and returned to North America to perform two sold out summer tours, followed by another in the fall.
The electrifying, hi-energy concert performances were filmed in hi-definition last summer by award-winning director Daniel E. Catullo III (Rush, Creed, Godsmack, Smashing Pumpkins) and mixed in DTS 5.1 Surround Sound by Mike Fraser.
The Blu-ray and DVD features one full concert shot at the Dodge Theater in Phoenix on Sept. 23rd, 2009, plus live segments from shows last fall at the Tabernacle in Atlanta and The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in Cleveland, plus a bonus photo gallery.

0 Sammy Hagar, Cinderella & Black Stone Cherry Added To Moondance Jam
Sammy Hagar and the Wabos, Cinderella, Pat Travers, Blackstone Cherry and Tonic have all been added to this year’s Moondance Jam schedule, joining the previously-announced Lynyrd Skynyrd, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar (with Neil Giraldo), Buckcherry, Collective Soul, Hoobastank, former-Eagle Don Felder’s “A Night at the Hotel California,” Jonny Lang and Blackberry Smoke. Now in its 19th year, this year’s event will take place July 14-17, 2010 in Walker, Minnesota. Tickets are available now at www.moondancejam.com or by calling 1-877-MOONJAM.
The Red Rocker returns to Walker during a limited run of summer dates that take him away from the studio and work on the new Chickenfoot record. Vic Johnson, Mona and David Lauser will join Sammy during a typical Waborita party on Thursday night that should include all of Hagar’s solo hits along with songs from Montrose and Van Halen.
Cinderella is back on the road after a three-year break away from the limelight as vocalist Tom Keifer recovered from throat problems. Now singing again at full strength, one of rock’s unique voices will front this 80’s favorite as the band plays a greatest hits set. Travers makes his first ever appearance at the Jam, his guitar pyrotechnics still thrilling rock fans after over 30 years on the road. Black Stone Cherry is also making its first appearance here, and the band’s modern southern rock style fits in perfectly with Lynyrd Skynyrd on Saturday. Tonic debuts at the festival with a new single “Release Me,” rising the charts.
In addition to the three day main stage line-up, a Pre Jammin party will be held on Wednesday, July 14 with local favorites Hairball headlining on the main stage. Many more acts will play the regional stage in the saloon on all three days of the festival.
Tickets are now available in a variety of packages. Concert goers can purchase Rockstar All Access, VIP, three day General Admission and single day tickets as well as camping and parking passes online or by contacting the Moondance ticket office. Moondance Jam has festival seating for General Admission ticket holders, meaning that front row access and lawn seating is available for everyone.
Moondance Jam is held on the beautiful 300 acre Moondance Events festival grounds, situated in the middle of Chippewa National Forest near Leech Lake. The festival features thousands of campsites, well-kept facilities, two bars with regional entertainment, excellent security, many food and beverage vendors, an experienced staff and owners who have been organizing music festivals since 1992. The safe, fan friendly atmosphere and idyllic location are just a few reasons why people return year after year to the Walker Area for the Moondance music festivals.
3 Rob Rockitt’s Top 13 of 2009
It seems like every year I put together a top list at Hard Rock Hideout, it becomes a harder task. In 2009, there was a crazy amount of excellent releases, and choosing the best ten was a daunting task to say the least. It was too hard to pick ten, so of course, I had to add some additional releases to my top list. The following releases are my top of 2009. All of these are worth picking up, and I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase any of these a second time. Check them out and see what you think!
#13 Shake City – S/T
Eonian Records has released quite a few undiscovered gems in 2009. Their best release of 2009 is easily Shake City. Shake City features the original singer of Warrant, Adam Shore. I don’t know why Adam left Warrant, but the fates should have been kinder to his band Shake City. If this CD would have been released twenty years ago, this disc could have easily gone platinum. It is better than many of the hair metal releases of the late 80’s. It is a crime that this band didn’t get the mainstream success of their peers. If you are a hair metal fan, you need to find this CD now. You wont be disappointed.
#12 Papa Roach – Metamorphosis
Papa Roach started introducing songs from Metamorphosis into their live sets in 2008, and as a result, I was familiar with several of the tunes by the time this CD was released. In my opinion, this is the strongest Papa Roach CD to date, with several hit worthy tunes. A worthy pick up for the modern rock fans out there.
#11 Cheap Trick – The Latest
I must admit that I have never been the biggest Cheap Trick fan over the years, but I can not deny how good their latest CD, The Latest is. While this may not be the most rocking CD of 2009, it does have some fun rockers, and is quality music all the way through. Robin Zander still sounds great after all of these years. This is a must own CD for Cheap Trick fans, all others ought to give it a shot.
#10 Chickenfoot – S/T
This is another CD that I didn’t really know what to expect. Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony have been playing together in Van Halen for years, but how would this new band work out with Joe Satriani and Chad Smith? Satriani’s playing on this CD is great, and when he does cut loose, he doesn’t over shadow the rest of the band. Overall, Chickenfoot is a supergroup that could have some legs. I hope these guys stick around for a few more releases. Van Halen’s other half still delivers.
#9 The Answer – Everyday Demons
The Answer’s debut CD Rise was one of my favorites of 2007. I had high expectations for their U.S. Debut, Everyday Demons. Luckily, it did not disappoint me in the least. Everyday Demons is powered by Zeppelin influenced rockers “Demon Eyes”, “On and On” “Walkin’ Mat”. The band couldn’t have asked for a bigger tour to be on in 2009. Opening up for AC/DC has gained them a ton of new fans. I can’t wait to see what the band has in store for us next. The only thing I didn’t like about Everyday Demons was cover art.
#8 Steel Panther – Feel the Steel
Steel Panther could be the greatest hair metal parody band of all time. Feel the Steel is packed full of tongue in cheek lyrics that many folks may find offensive. You can’t deny the stellar musicianship of these California rockers. I had the opportunity to see the band play at M3 earlier this year, and they did not disappoint. When is the U.S. Club tour guys?
#7 Charm City Devils – Let’s Rock N’ Roll
Who would have thought that drummer John Allen would front a new kick ass rock and roll band in 2009? I didn’t at all. I have been rockin’ with CCD’s debut CD since its release. This is quality hard rock all the way through. In case you missed it, Charm City Devils had a pretty big year with their opening slot on the 2009 Cruefest. I am still hopeful that they will do a club tour, (and break out some Child Play tunes in their set).
#6 KISS – Sonic Boom
Sonic Boom is the first KISS CD in a long time that I have been able to listen to, all the way through without skipping a song. While I don’t consider this CD their best, it is definitely in their top ten, if not top five CD’s of all time. I didn’t expect this CD to be much. Sonic Boom was one of 2009’s biggest surprises.
#5 Coldspell – Infinite Stargaze
When I first heard the demo tracks from Coldspell in 2008, I about crapped myself. I couldn’t wait to hear Coldspell’s debut CD. I have played this CD over and over again in 2009, and will continue to do so for years to come. This is melodic rock at its finest.
#4 Winger – Karma
Holy Crap?! I get the feeling that Kip Winger and Reb Beach were pissed off when they wrote this record. This is easily the heaviest Winger album to date. Reb Beach unleashes his fury on his six strings, and Karma shines as a result. The songs aren’t all heavy, but they are all top quality. I am hopeful that Kip and company will tour for this album in 2010. Great Stuff, and worthy to be in anyone’s collection.
#3 Black Robot – S/T
Black Robot – I had no expectations when I first heard Black Robot’s self titled effort. I figured any band with former Buckcherry members would probably rock, but I had no idea that I would enjoy this CD as much as I have. “Cocaine” is easily the best cover song I have heard in 2009. Black Robot
gets the nod for best new band of 2009. If you missed this CD when it was released earlier this year, you will have to wait to grab this in 2010. The original pressing is out of print, but Black Robot will be re-releasing this CD next year with bonus tracks !!
#2 Paul Gilbert & Freddie Nelson – United States
United States has been my feelgood CD of 2009. Paul Gilbert’s guitar work is quite impressive, and Freddie Nelson’s mimicry of Freddie Mercury is pretty incredible. Once I started playing this, I couldn’t stop. Absolutely fantastic music!
#1 The Last Vegas – Whatever Gets You Off
The Last Vegas has been rocking hard since 2003, but their 2009 CD, Whatever Gets You Off is easily their breakthrough release. It didn’t hurt that they had a little help from Nikki Sixx, and DJ Ashba who produced this disc. I still don’t understand why this band didn’t get the nod for Cruefest last summer. They seemed tailor made for that festival but the promoters didn’t ask for my advice. Whatever Gets You Off is crazy good. Apologize might be the biggest power ballad of this decade (no I am not kidding). This is another great party CD, and easily my favorite of 2009.
