Sinner 2013

Back to the 80’s! That’s not only the mission behind SINNER’s upcoming album “Touch Of Sin 2” (released on August 30th), so their new video clip “Don’t Believe A Word” takes you back to the times of DeLorean, Indiana Jones, Rambo, video recorders and Miami Vice.

For “Touch Of Sin 2” the band took 11 of their classic tracks from the 80’s (from their long out of print cult albums “Dangerous Charm”, “Touch Of Sin” and “Comin’ Out Fighting”) and did an extensive re-recording. In addition, 3 brand new songs were produced to end up on the record.

Any time that a band covers a much beloved, obscure 80s metal song like “Atomic Playboys,” they are bound to get my attention. Such is the case with Sinner who’s latest release, One Bullet Left, is some solid rock and roll in the vein of glamorous heavy metal. Rocking the world since 1982, Sinner is a veteran hard rock act that hasn’t received a ton of attention outside their home country of Germany. While they’ve always been a big hit in Europe, their success never translated over to the states, which is a shame. Sinner is a solid hard rock band and their latest effort, One Bullet Left, is an enjoyable record, especially if you are tired of all the same whiny modern rock that currently rules the US airways.

The title track on One Bullet Left is a foot stomping, hard rocking, heavy beating, good time song. With a sing-along, chanting chorus and some wicked leads by guitarist Christof Leim, “One Bullet Left” is pure fun. Isn’t that what music is supposed to be anyway—a muse that puts a smile on your face? Once you are singing along with Sinner on “One Bullet Left,” you’ll be grinning from ear to ear.

Sinner’s cover of “Atomic Playboys,” originally done by Steve Stevens in 1989, is magnificent. Sinner’s version of the song is a perfect replica of the original, an homage to the art of an amazing tune that never got it’s recognized due. Sinner performs this deep classic to perfection and it was a real treat hearing this song covered properly. Sinner gets their due for replicating such an obscure, yet enjoyable, metal treat.

Although he’s been leading the microphone since the early 80s, lead vocalist Mat Sinner still sounds like a young, hungry rocker at heart. His voice has not deteriorated over the decades, and while he won’t wow you with overpowering metal scream high notes, his dark, gritty voice is a perfect complement to the hard rock music that the band lays out. Doubling as the bassist (and lead songwriter) for the band keeps Mat Sinner very busy. One Bullet Left is mostly his creation, and it’s a good one. It’s been three years since the band’s last release, but the wait for a new album was worth it. Sinner has delivered a rocking record.

Overall, One Bullet Left is a solid album for fans of hard rock. If you are seeking out a banging album that isn’t overplayed and mainstream, then veteran act Sinner’s One Bullet Left is a disc you will enjoy. Their latest album is a hard rocking good time for the ears. It’s definitely worth a few listens.

Following the band’s first album under the AFM banner with 2009’s lauded Memorial Roots, German power metal kings BRAINSTORM will set loose their sophomore full-length for the label with the North American release of On The Spur Of The Moment on November 8th. An AFM label priority, the newest product of this fine German export — the band’s ninth full-length release to date — On The Spur Of The Moment is an incredible power metal album, that more than ever emphasizes the exceptional status of BRAINSTORM within the diehard power metal communities of the world. Showcasing the band’s musicianship on all levels, the record takes their majestic power metal energy to greater heights with an incredibly layered ten anthems, recorded by Axel Heckert in Ludwigsburg, Germany’s Studio 22. BRAINSTORM‘s tight-knit lineup of vocalist Andy B. Franck, guitarists Torsten Ihlenfeld and Milan Loncaric, bassist Antonio Ieva and drummer Dieter Bernert remains solid.

Hard rock kings SINNER, who have been engaging the scene with their blistering tunes since the mid-’80s, are back with a brand new album, and are preparing to unleash One Bullet Left onto North American fans this November 8th. The usual cycle of long gap between SINNER albums is over, as One Bullet Left sees release only three years after their persuasive Crash & Burn album. Coming back hard on this album with a renewed lineup, of course you can expect the SINNER-typical guitar harmonies and a high-quality base of traditional heavy metal and honest, handmade rock, celebrated in a fresh and gutsy way. Band leader, bassist/vocalist Mat Sinner (Primal Fear, Voodoo Circle, etc.) has rounded-out the new SINNER lineup with drummer Andre Hilgers (Rage), returning guitarist Alex Beyrodt (Primal Fear, Voodoo Circle, etc.), and two additional guitarists Christof Leim (The New Black) and Alex Scholpp (Tarja, Farmer Boys)… yes, three guitarists this time. Recorded and produced in several studios in Europe by Mat Sinner, mixed and mastered then by Achim Köhler, some might say SINNER are at their very best on One Bullet Left.

The self-titled debut from WOLFPAKK is out now in North America. The brainchild of musicians Michael Voss (ex-Casanova, Mad Max) and Mark Sweeney (ex-Crystal Ball), the goal of WOLFPAKK was not only to feature their respective characteristics and strengths, but also to be joined by guest musicians on the album from all over the hard rock and traditional metal scenes. Within a very short time over thirty musicians from all over the world had contacted the ambitious Sweeney and Voss to take part in the project, and an album was constructed. Simply dubbed Wolfpakk, all ten songs were written by Voss and Sweeney, who also shared in the vocal duties, in addition to handling all production and mixing. Joining Michael Voss and Mark Sweeney on this release was an international cast including Paul Di’Anno (ex-Iron Maiden), Tony Martin (ex-Black Sabbath), Jeff Scott Soto (ex-Yngwie Malmsteen, Talisman), Tim “Ripper” Owens (ex-Judas Priest), Paul Shortino (ex-Quiet Riot), Tony Franklin (ex-Blue Murder, Robert Plant), Mat Sinner (Primal Fear), Neil Murray (Whitesnake), Igor Gianola (U.D.O.), Marco Wriedt (Axxis) [view full list of guest musicians at this location.]

1 Sinner – Crash & Burn (Release Year – 2009)

sinnercrashburnI must admit that I have never been a huge fan of Sinner. I have a couple of their releases and I have never been that crazy about them.

I read some positive things about the band’s latest opus, “Crash & Burn”, and I decided to give this band another chance.

From the opening air raid siren of “Crash & Burn” I had a pretty good idea that this disc would rock, and man does it ever.  The opening cut is a rocker and there really are not any sleepers on this disc.

“Revolution” (please see the video below) is a catchy tune but it is far from the best tune on this CD. My favorite cut on this disc has to be the metal anthem “Fist to Face”. If Mat Sinner keeps writing songs like this, he may not find the time to play in Primal Fear anymore.  Sinner will be a full time gig for him.

Sinner even covers the Butch Walker penned Marvelous 3 tune, “Little Head” and almost give this song a Thin Lizzy like spin.  Cool stuff!

The Lizzyisms continue on the song “Connection”.  The guitar melodies on this song would make Phil Lynott (R.I.P.) smile.  This song reminds me a lot of Lizzy Classic “The Boys Are Back In Town”, but it is good nonetheless.

“Like A Rock” is a pretty cool album closer.  This is a catchy yet harder edged tune with some pretty cool guitar riffs by Henry Walter.

“Crash & Burn” has been one of 2009’s better surprises.  This CD is a a cool disc with some good catchy tunes, solid vocals and great guitar work.  It is a worthy pickup for all hard rock fans.  Check it out!

1 Stereoside – So Long (Release Year – 2007)

  • April 24, 2008
  • by Rob Rockitt
  • · Entertainment · Hard Rock Music · Hard Rock News · Music

In 2007, the four hard rocking guys that make up the band, Stereoside, signed with Bieler Brothers records.

Singer Jeff Shields is the former Tallahassee Idol winner. He has rejected many major label offers to sing country music, and joined Stereoside in 2006.

What does Stereoside sound like? Their modern rock sound mimics that of a couple of the better selling acts of late, Hinder, Daughtry and maybe a dash of Alter Bridge.

The CD, So Long is full of radio ready rockers, many of which could easily be hits, especially if Clear Channel allows their stations to play this record.

When singer Jeff Shields voice isn’t over powered by the music, his vocals shine. At times his voice reminds me of another singer that I am fond of, Johnny Gioeli from Axel Rudi Pell.

So Long is armed with a bunch of good songs, including, Sinner, Tattoo, Wasted and My Life. Sinner could be a massive hit for Stereoside. The tune Tattoo is very catchy and requires multiple plays. Wasted has a crazy amount of radio potential. There really isn’t a bad song in the lot.

Hopefully, Stereoside isn’t a band that gets lost in the mix. Their sound may not be original enough to get them the recognition they deserve. Jeff Shields is a big talent, and this disc needs to be heard by all.

Check out Stereoside at their myspace page, and go get a copy of this disc from Bieler Brothers for the great price of $6.99 today!

3 Dave Evans – Sinner (Release Year – 2005)

Dave Evans Sinner In case you didn’t know, Dave Evans is the first lead singer from AC/DC. He has been in a few bands over the years since his initial days with AC/DC, and is now starting to make a name for himself in the United States.

Sinner is the debut CD released by Dave Evans in the United States. If you love good hard rock music, you are going to love this disc.

Sinner is full of kick ass, hard driving, rock and roll! Dave Evans voice is well tailored for good heavy rock, and this disc rocks hard. Mark Tinson’s song writing skills shine, as there isn’t a bad song on the disc.

My favorite cuts are Back on the Firing Line, Take Me Down Again, Only the Good Die Young, Carnal Knowledge, Turn it Up and Out in the Cold.

Fans of AC/DC and good hard rock music are going to love this disc. You can hear more of Dave’s songs at his myspace page here. You can pick up Sinner at CDBaby.com and ITunes. For those of you who haven’t caught the Dave Evans podcast yet, be sure to check it out here.

2 Sinner – Mask of Sanity (Release Year 2007)

  • February 26, 2007
  • by Rob Rockitt
  • · CD Reviews Q-Z · Hard Rock Videos

Sinner - Mask Of Sanity Mask of Sanity is the 18th release by the German Metal Band Sinner. I must admit, that before 2007, I have not ever heard of this band before. A few of the online metal shows that I listen to have been giving this disc some spins, so I decided to give this one a look. With a CD cover that Ghost Rider fans (like myself) had to love, my expectations were raised for this disc somewhat.

Lead vocalist Mat Sinner sounds like a cross between Udo Dirkschneider (Accept) and Kevin Dubrow (Quiet Riot). His voice is one that takes some getting used to. He wont go down in history as one of metal’s best singers by any means, but he wont go down as the worst either.

The band backing up Mat Sinner, Tom Naumann on guitar, Frank Rössler on keyboards, Klaus Sperling on drums, and Christof Leim on guitar sound great.

Its obvious that the band has been playing together for a long time, as the music is tight as hell. There are elements of 80’sSinner 2007 hard rock, a dash of power metal and sometimes progressive metal mixed in the songs on this disc. The band is so good, I wonder if Mat Sinner is holding them back. A better vocalist could possibly take this band to new heights.

Nonetheless, Mask of Sanity, is a good metal release, and worth checking out.

There are quite a few cuts off Mask of Sanity that I like including, Badlands, Black, Diary of Evil, The Sign, and Baby Please Don’t Go. Check out the videos below
