Check out the exclusive behind-the-scenes documentary SLASH’s “Real To Reel” at: www.slashonline.com. The innovative online series documented the entire in-studio recording process from the first day of recording to the last; the multi-segment fly-on-the wall series follows Slash and The Conspirators from pre-production at NRG Studios in Los Angeles to Studio Barbarossa in Florida, as they write, play, create and record WORLD ON FIRE from start to finish.
SLASH and MYLES KENNEDY talk about the album and the forthcoming tour dates in this Q&A:
WORLD ON FIRE marks your second album with your band MYLES KENNEDY (vocals), BRENT FITZ (drums) and TODD KERNS (bass). How do you feel the dynamic between the four of you has evolved?
SLASH: We had a natural chemistry from the very beginning. The longer we have been together the more it has blossomed. And because of all the touring and the different situations we have been thrown into as a band and as players, we have all subconsciously learned from that. It shows up when we’re writing and when we’re recording. It’s sort of an unsaid thing, but I can sense it. It’s a natural evolution for a bunch of musicians in a band together.
MYLES: Over the last four years we have definitely evolved into a band. Utilizing Todd’s vocal prowess and Brent’s ability as a multi-instrumentalist definitely highlights what the Conspirators are capable of. I feel like it adds to what Slash and I do as songwriters. Not to mention they are both a big part of the arrangement process. Todd even brought in a cool progression that we used for the verses in “Shadow Life” and he added an great intro to “The Dissident” which is really fun.
What are the biggest differences between the last album Apocalyptic Love and the new album WORLD ON FIRE?
SLASH: The biggest difference is that the band has also has naturally evolved with so much touring and all of these different things. There’s a difference in musicianship that shows on this record and the songwriting skills especially.
The other difference is the fact that we recorded both albums live, but we kept the first one (Apocalyptic Love) just live. That was it. There was no over-dubs or layering or any kind of studio techniques. With WORLD ON FIRE I wanted to do guitar harmonies and double up parts and just create sounds. It’s a little more produced record in that sense.
MYLES: We didn’t spend as much time fine-tuning arrangements as a unit during the Apocalyptic sessions. I think that’s part of the reason this record sounds as cohesive as it does. Slash spent a lot of time with Todd and Brent working on arrangements while I was on tour with Alter Bridge late last year. When I got off the road, I met up with them in LA so they could get a feel for how the songs felt with vocals.
Another difference is that Slash played all the guitars on WORLD ON FIRE. During the Apocalyptic sessions I sang and played guitar which was fun, but it definitely cut into the amount of time I had to focus on lyrics, etc. Not playing guitar on WORLD ON FIRE gave me additional time to fine-tune lyrics and melodies which improved the songs in the end. I’m very happy with how it turned out.
For WORLD ON FIRE you teamed up with producer Michael “Elvis” Baskette (Alter Bridge, Falling In Reverse, Incubus). What do you feel he brought to the table?
SLASH: Elvis is very conscious about guitar and guitar tones as well as drums, bass and vocals. For me, it is important to work with somebody who is very dialed-into guitar sounds. In this particular day and age it’s a rarity to find someone who really understands guitar sounds. Elvis is an extremely hard-worker. I consider myself a hard worker as well as Myles. He was somebody that, over the course of making the record, gave me an even more of an extra push in some moments. So he brought out the best in me as well as Myles and the drums and everything. He was a pleasure to work with.
MYLES: Elvis is brilliant. It’s the fifth record I have had the pleasure of recording with him. His ability to get the best out of a rock band is pretty special. He always seems to be aware of what the fans want to hear from an artist. He did a great job documenting Slash’s tone and sound. I remember the first time I heard the solo for “Battleground”–I was blown away. Elvis captured the sonic hallmarks that made Slash’s playing resonate with me 25 years ago.
Elvis is hands-on with every element of the recording process. From the arrangements to the final mix, he is relentless at making sure that the record is everything it should be and more.
Did you guys experiment with any new sounds with the production?
SLASH: Yes and no. The whole record sounds new compared to the last album. Yes we did do a lot of tonal and EQ and guitars. I can’t say we were looking to break ground with new technology, because we did this to tape. But from a tonal and equalization point of view, we definitely broke a lot of new ground.
MYLES: That would be a question for Elvis or Slash. I can definitely hear some new approaches that I haven’t heard on the last two records.
What makes “World on Fire” the perfect single choice?
SLASH: I think there’s a lot of singles on the record, but it’s a good kick-off song. It’s up-tempo, aggressive, it’s a fun song. I love the whole world on fire, larger-than-life kind of vibe that the title and lyrics have.
MYLES: It’s got a certain intensity and drive that made it a compelling choice for the lead-off track.
In what ways are we all suffering from a World on Fire?
SLASH: To be literal about it, we have the global warming thing. But that’s not the catalyst for the title. “World on Fire” is more of a tongue-in-cheek, positive, fun thing– it has a lot of sexual connotations in the actual song itself. It’s a euphemism for going a little bit crazy and pulling out all the stops.
MYLES: “World On Fire” isn’t necessarily a profound statement about where we are as a planet. It’s about living life to the fullest….carpe diem. Some might perceive the track as carnal in nature, but the idea of seizing the moment and doing what makes you happy is the overall theme. Then again, it’s not up to me to dictate what a song will mean to everyone. All I can do is tell you what was going through my head as the lyrics were being written.
What are a couple of other songs that you feel are highlights for you right now?
SLASH: When doing a record I hate to identify with any one particular song or two particular songs. It’s not like the record is written with one great song and the rest are filler. They all mean as much as the others. There are a few songs that are very different than what we did on the last record. There’s a song called “The Unholy” which was influenced by my work in film. There’s another song called “Thirty Years to Life” which is a little bit of a departure. There’s another song that sticks out in my mind called “The Dissident” that’s a little bit unpredictable compared to stuff that people would expect from us.
You’re touring with Aerosmith this summer for the “Let Rock Rule” tour. It feels like true rock is needed more than ever in a very pop-driven landscape. How do you guys feel about this?
SLASH: I am a Rock n’ Roll guy. The music business has become a pop-oriented sort of thing and all of the different music genres have become pop. I love the fact that I am doing Rock n’ Roll and have always done the same thing from a very heartfelt place. Aerosmith has represented that to me ever since I was kid. The two of us going out there and doing this big tour and holding that banner and doing it as sincerely as it can be done is something that I can be proud of.
MYLES: Though rock is not the force that it once was in America, it still has a loyal fan base that always seems to continue regardless of what popular culture deems as the “cool thing.” It’s great because you go to a rock show and you know folks aren’t there because they are following trends, they aren’t fair weather fans, they’re following their heart and listening to music that they love. People have been saying rock is dead for years but the reality is that it just falls out of favor with pop culture from time to time. The rock fans are still out there and that’s why a tour like this is so important.

4 Adler – Back From The Dead (2012)
When former Guns N’ Roses drummer Steven Adler comes back from the dead, he means it. When Adler’s new CD hits the stores on 11/27, prepare to be BLOWN AWAY! Back From The Dead is packed with great songs, and some killer guest appearances from John 5, Slash and Jeff Pilson. I have been looking forward to Adler’s solo debut for quite some time, but I didn’t expect it to be THIS good.
I had high hopes for this album after hearing “The One That You Hated” a few months ago. Back From The Dead does not disappoint one bit!
Jeff Pilson produced the album with Adler, and also handles all of the bass work on the CD. When you have a rhythm section that is Steven Adler and Jeff Pilson, can you really do wrong?
Steven Adler scored big when he got Lynam’s Jacob Bunton to join his band. No only does Bunton handle the vocals for Adler, but is also the lead song writer. Bunton has written a bunch of quality songs, and delivers what could be the vocal performance of his career.
The opening song “Back From The Dead” almost has a Cinderella like opening, but once this song kicks into gear, it is a take no prisoners, head-banging tune.
“Own Worst Enemy”, “Another Version of The Truth” and “The One That You Hated” are three more killer tracks stacked up back to back.
I was excited to learn that John 5 is one of the guest guitarists on Back From The Dead. If you are familiar with John 5, then you will recognize his playing on “Good To Be Bad”. His guitar work is amazing on this song!
I figured that “Just Don’t Ask featuring Slash would be a real ripping track, and I was very wrong about that one. This is a slower track, but Slash’s fretwork shines. This is a great song!
“Blown Away” is a real rocker that ought to be a radio single for Adler. This song is going to take the world by storm.
“Your Diamonds” has a 70’s classic rock feel, while the album closer “Dead Wrong” has a more of a modern feel to it.
Back From The Dead is easily one of the biggest surprises, and strongest albums of 2012. I love this album, and I think you will too! Don’t miss this!
Rating: Out of 10
Back From the Dead will be released on November 27th, 2012. You can preorder the CD here!

SLASH and his bandmates Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators—Myles Kennedy (vocals), Brent Fitz (drums), Todd Kerns (bass) and Frank Sidoris (guitar)–are riding a wave of critical acclaim with a four-star review in Revolver magazine noting: “Apocalyptic Love is at heart a collection of lean, high-octane rock-and-roll tunes built to be blasted out of open-top sports cars or, more suitably, open-air stadiums” (July 2012). Elsewhere, the Los Angeles Times said: “Fans of his work in GNR and Velvet Revolver will find much to embrace in the album’s 13 tracks, ranging from the sneering rock hooks of ‘You’re a Lie’ and the heavy metal grind of ‘Halo’ to the extended instrumental passages on ‘Anastasia’” (May 24, 2012) Slash’s full bio and press releases or to download a photo, go to: http://www.msopr.com/n/client-roster/slash.

An Intimate Portrait
By Richard Bienstock, Photography By Robert Knight, Foreword By Ronnie Wood, Preface By Joe Perry
ISBN: 978-1-60887-149-0
Hardcover | $29.99 | 144 Pages
October 2012
Guns N’ Roses’ 1987 debut, Appetite for Destruction, is eighteen times platinum, has sold over twenty-eight million copies, and launched the career of modern Guitar God, Slash. Over the past twenty-five years, Slash’s cool stage presence, gloriously unkempt hair, iconic top hat, and soulful guitar virtuosity has been the epitome of contemporary hard rock. Slash: An Intimate Portraittakes you beyond the glitz and mystique, to reveal the warmth, charm, and humility of one of popular music’s most revered rockers.
In addition to his cherished work with G N’ R, Slash’s journey spans working with Michael Jackson, Fergie, Iggy Pop, Lenny Kravitz, the supergroup Velvet Revolver, and releasing two critically acclaimed solo albums. Robert Knight’s photographs in Slash: An Intimate Portrait trace significant milestones over twenty years in Slash’s career, showing him onstage, in the studio, and at home. Knight’s talent for capturing the true essence of his subject is on full display: Candid, dramatic, and often funny. These photos take us beyond the big hair, the big hat, and the huge guitar riffs to underscore the larger-than-life personality and genuine enthusiasm that have made Slash one of rock’s most recognizable figures for more than three decades. With over one hundred arresting and never-before-published color and B&W photos, and warmly candid insights from Slash himself, this fascinating book frames a real and complete perspective of today’s most iconic guitarist.
Slash: An Intimate Portrait features an entertaining and insightful foreword by close friend and legend in his own right, Rolling Stones’ guitarist Ronnie Wood, and a witty and thoughtful preface from Aerosmith’s Joe Perry. The book also has revelatory text by noted rock scribe Richard Bienstock. Slash: An Intimate Portrait is a treat for guitar heads, rock buffs, and pop music fans. Plus, it will be released just in time to visually complement an upcoming special edition of Slash’s highly regarded sophomore solo record, Apocalyptic Love.
Richard Bienstock is a senior editor with Guitar World Magazine and executive editor of Guitar Aficionado Magazine. He is also a musician and journalist whose writing has appeared in numerous U.S. and international publications. He lives in New York City.
Robert Knight is a longtime photographer whose lens has captured guitar legends including Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Steve Vai, and Eric Clapton. His work is exhibited in over two hundred Guitar Center locations. He lives in Las Vegas.
Ronnie Wood is a guitarist for the Rolling Stones. In 2001, he formed the Ronnie Wood Band, of which Slash was a member. Wood lives in London, UK.
Joe Perry is the lead guitarist for one of the most revered bands in rock history, Aerosmith, playing on classic albums such as Toys in the Attic, Rocks, and Permanent Vacation. He has also released a number of well-received solo albums.

REDEFINING THE WAY FANS EXPERIENCE MUSIC AND ALBUMS
WITH MUSIC TECH APPS
“SLASH360” AND “AmpliTube”
“In this day and age, if you can take music in a different direction, and show people all the different facets of how music is created and performed it makes the whole picture more interesting. That is our goal.” –SLASH
We’ve moved into the digital music era, but multimedia albums have neglected to make the transition into this new era as easily as singles. Technology has evolved to create opportunities never before possible, such as interacting with artists in a live setting. Ideas move fast, and it makes sense an artist would be at the heart of new, innovative and forward-thinking ideas that resonate. Grammy-winning, iconic guitarist andRock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee SLASH has introduced two new music apps which celebrate a return to the full-length album, allowing fans to access his signature sound and push the boundaries of how music is released.
SLASH’s new album APOCALYPTIC LOVEmoves into the interactive age and is now available as a multimedia app for users of Apple’s iPhone, iPad and iPod devices. SLASH has partnered with MATIvision to bring fans the SLASH360 app. The SLASH360 brings you into the studio with SLASH and his bandmates Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators Brent Fitz (drums) and Todd Kerns (bass). “We recorded this album live, as we played it,” explains SLASH. “The app captures the energy of the band in the best way and MATIvision allows fans to experience the album just as if they were in the room with us.” MATIvision is the world’s first multi-camera 360-degree interactive music application. The SLASH360 app allows fans to follow every moment of the band performing APOCALYPTIC LOVE in its entirety through the eyes of six 360-degree spherical, panoramic cameras. SLASH360 is a music first. Never before have fans been able to control their experience while listening to the album at the same time. SLASH and MATIvision have taken the information that used to be limited to a CD booklet and turned it into a unique fan experience.
There are two versions of the SLASH360 app. The introductory version includes the #1 Active Rock hit “You’re A Lie” with lyrics and extras ($.99). Click here to experience: http://itunes.apple.com/app/slash-360-lt-apocalyptic-love/id524517739?mt=8A second, full version includes the entire album performance of APOCALYPTIC LOVE, photos, lyrics and other extras ($4.99).Experience the full version here: http://itunes.apple.com/app/slash-360-apocalyptic-love/id524544296?mt=8.
For the more musically inclined fan, SLASH partnered with IK Multimedia to develop AmpliTube Slash edition which allows fans to play, practice and record with SLASH’s signature pedals and amplifiers on the iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and Mac/PC. Users can rock in a fully integrated multi-track recording studio with SLASH’s legendary Marshall amplifiers andhis signature guitar pedals as well asa comprehensive collection of SLASH’s guitar tone settings. “Myles and I wrote APOCALYPTIC LOVE entirely on tour,” explains SLASH. “When we weren’t performing we were traveling so by using my iPhone with AmpliTube and iRig I was able to capture the ideas swimming in my head at 4AM.” “I’ll do some tweaks on the Marshall’s, but there are different effects available including distortion, chorus, auto wah and more.” SLASH worked closely with IK Multimedia to make sure AmpliTube Slash faithfully reproduced his unmistakable sounds and tones. The apps are now available for iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad ($9.99) and inside the new AmpliTube 2.5 for iOS with the inclusion of SLASH’s full deck of signature gear in the cutting edge AmpliTube Custom Shop desktop/laptop app and plug-in for Mac/PC ($79.99). The tour is in connection with the success of SLASH’s second solo studio album APOCALYPTIC LOVE which stormed onto the BillboardTop 200 Albums Chart at #4, marking the top rock debut that week. SLASH has achieved his first-ever #1 hit at rock radio as the explosive first single “You’re A Lie” vaults to the #1 spot this week at Active Rock. Watch the video for “You’re A Lie” here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1SZrJLMTO-8. The album also entered the Top 5 in seven countries outside the U.S.: Canada (#2), Australia (#2), New Zealand (#1), Germany (#5), France (#7), Japan (#2), Sweden (#4) and Switzerland (#3). All the songs on APOCALYPTIC LOVE (Dik Hayd International, distributed through EMI Label Services) were written together by SLASH and Myles Kennedy.
For the tour, SLASH teamed with Guitar Center–the world’s largest music retailer-–to offer a one-of-a-kind opportunity to twenty unsigned American bands. Twenty bands will be hand-selected to be SLASH’s opening acts and will perform on the fall tourin the cities closest to their hometown. At the end of the fall run, one of the opening bands will be named by SLASH as the grand prize winner of Guitar Center On-Stage. Not only will the bands be opening for one of the world’s greatest guitarists, but they will also receive a tour support prize pack that includes gear from Ernie Ball, Zoom, Dunlop, Monster Cable, Pro-Mark, and Converse. The top performing band on the tour, as selected by SLASH, will be named the grand prize winner and take home $10,000 in guitars from Gibson and Epiphone, plus a $5,000 shopping spree at Guitar Center and more. The twenty bands will be announced in August.
“I’m a strong believer that the best way to get your music heard is to get out there and play shows,” said SLASH. “There are tons of talented bands that simply don’t have the resources to go on tour, so I’m glad to be able to host them on my tour and at the same time introduce my fans to great, undiscovered artists.”
SLASH and his band are riding a wave of critical acclaim with a four-star review in Revolver magazine noting: “Apocalyptic Love is at heart a collection of lean, high-octane rock-and-roll tunes built to be blasted out of open-top sports cars or, more suitably, open-air stadiums” (July 2012). Elsewhere, the Los Angeles Times said: “Fans of his work in GNR and Velvet Revolver will find much to embrace in the album’s 13 tracks, ranging from the sneering rock hooks of ‘You’re a Lie’ and the heavy metal grind of ‘Halo’ to the extended instrumental passages on ‘Anastasia’” (May 24, 2012).

5 Slash – Apocalyptic Love (2012)
As much as I love Slash, and Myles Kennedy, I thought without question that their latest release Apocalyptic Love was going to be a home run for hard rock fans.
While there is a few good tunes on the new CD, it did not live up to my expectations.
On the good side, Slash plays his ass off, and truly delivers some killer riffs. This might be his best playing since his Guns N’ Roses days.
On the bad side, I think I have seen (or heard) Myles Kennedy’s one weakness as a singer. On the mid tempo songs he sounds great! On the high tempo songs, he gets a little screachy, and in my opinion, his voice doesn’t work well on those songs. Luckily there aren’t many songs like this, but
there are a few that I want to skip over.
Apocalyptic Love really starts picking up steam with “You’re A Lie”. The best songs on the album start at this point on Apocalyptic Love.
With that being said, there are a few good songs worth checking out including the first single “You’re A Lie”, “No More Heroes”, “Anastasia”, “Hard Rain”, and “Shots Fired”.
My favorite track on Apocalyptic Love is “Anastasia”. This song starts off with a simple acoustic part which makes you
think this is going to be a simple or even a weak track. One listen, and you quickly find that is one of the strongest
songs on the album. (Check it out below).
“Far and Away” is the slowest number on Apocalyptic Love. This song has a blusier feel to it, and Kennedy’s voice shines on this track.
Apocalyptic Love isn’t a perfect CD, but it is still worth checking out. I enjoyed most of the songs on the album, and few stronger tracks and this could have been one of 2012’s best albums.

Iconic guitarist Slash has partnered with MATIvision to create the world’s first multi-camera 360-degree interactive music applications for the Apple iPad, iPod and iPhone to accompany his newly released album Apocalyptic Love.
The apps let you follow every moment of the band performing songs from their new album through six 360-degree spherical cameras. You choose the camera angle via touch or gyroscopic control – each camera rotates a full 360-degrees. Pinch in or out on your device to use the zoom feature to get closer to the action. Each app also includes additional content, such as exclusive photos and song lyrics. Slash360 provides a unique way to experience Slash, Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators unlike anything else.
There are two versions of the app to choose from – one version includes the hit single “You’re A Lie” along with lyrics and other extras (http://itunes.apple.com/app/slash-360-lt-apocalyptic-love/id524517739?mt=8) and the second a full version that includes the full Apocalyptic Love album, photos, lyrics and other extras (http://itunes.apple.com/app/slash-360-apocalyptic-love/id524544296?mt=8). The apps are priced in the United States iTunes store at $0.99 and $4.99, respectively. Pricing varies by territory.
“The way we recorded this album was pretty much live as we played it,” Slash explains. “It was an “old school” way of doing it and captures the energy of the band in the best possible way. Being able to capture the band and allow fans to experience it as if they were in the room is very cool, it’s like being in the room with us.”
Slash and his band featuring lead singer Myles Kennedy, drummer Brent Fitz and bassist Todd Kearns aka The Conspirators have just released Apocalyptic Love (May 22). Apocalyptic Love stormed onto the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart at #4, marking the top rock debut for that week. The disc also debuted at #1 Independent Albums Chart and #1 Hard Music Albums Chart. All songs on Apocalyptic Love released on Slash’s own Dik Hayd International, and distributed through EMI Label Services were written together by Slash and Myles Kennedy as they spent the last two years on tour all over the world. In addition, Apocalyptic Love is also Top 5 in seven countries outside the U.S. Critical acclaim is pouring in for the album and its hard-driving first single “You’re A Lie.”
Revolver magazine declared, “Apocalyptic Love is at heart a collection of lean, high-octane rock-and-roll tunes built to be blasted out of open-top sports cars or, more suitably, open-air stadiums” (July 2012). The Los Angeles Times added, “Fans of his work in GNR and Velvet Revolver will find much to embrace in the album’s 13 tracks, ranging from the sneering rock hooks of ‘You’re a Lie’ and the heavy metal grind of ‘Halo’ to the extended instrumental passages on ‘Anastasia.’” Elsewhere, Rolling Stone.com hailed, “the album is filled with head bangers and plenty of fancy fretwork, most notably on standout tracks like ‘Hard and Fast’ and ‘Standing in the Sun.’” Slash and his band are currently on the road performing sold-out shows across the country and overseas.
MATIvision (Multi Angle Totally Interactive Vision) delivers THE ultimate interactive “I Was There Experience.” MATIvision technology captures live or staged events or performances and brings the experience directly to fans as never before. Filmed with multiple MATIvision cameras, an event or performance can be viewed from almost every angle in full 360-degree glory. The groundbreaking multi-camera MATIvision Player then provides the user with an individually controlled interactive viewing experience. MATIvision multi-camera interactive players allow the user to choose between multiple synchronized camera views/angles, zoom in and out along with other functions. The players are available for the Internet (via YouTube, live streaming or VOD), standalone desktop and/or Apple mobile platforms (iPad, iPhone and selected iPods). 0 Slash Releases Statement on the Passing of Jim Marshall
“I consider myself very fortunate to have known the late Jim Marshall. He was such a fantastic individual.
Not only did he create the loudest, most effective, brilliant-sounding Rock & Roll amplifier ever designed, but he was a caring, hardworking family man who remained true to his integrity to the very end. His work ethic was unequaled and his passion unrivaled.
He took great care of me personally, as one of his loyal fans and Marshall Amp enthusiasts, ever since we first met in the early 90’s.
At that time, he did the unprecedented; he had the first-ever Artist Model Marshall series designed for me when my Marshall amps were destroyed in a Guns N Roses concert riot in St. Louis in 1991. We had been friends ever since.
Jim cared for all his customers like they were his family. He would do whatever it took to make sure an artist was completely satisfied and he made sure his staff did likewise. It was very important to him that Marshall quality and customer care was paramount.
Jim’s passing marks the end of a very loud and colorful era. From Pete Townshend to Kerry King, Marshall Amplifiers have been behind every great Rock & Roll guitarist since the beginning. Marshall Amplification is one of the most enduring, iconic brands of contemporary music history.
This industry will likely never see the likes of Jim again. But his legacy will live on forever.”

0 SLASH: RELEASES SPECIAL VIDEO AND SONG TO RAISE AWARENESS FOR HOMELESS YOUTH STAR-STUDDED VIDEO FOR “GOTTEN” PREMIERES TODAY ALL PROCEEDS BENEFIT THE LOS ANGELES YOUTH NETWORK
SLASH, the iconic, Grammy-winning rock guitarist and songwriter, is releasing a special video and song to raise awareness for the plight of homeless youth in Los Angeles. Fans can make a donation to the Los Angeles Youth Network (LAYN) by downloading the song–a special mix of “Gotten,” with Adam Levine of Maroon 5 on vocals, from SLASH’s previous 2010 debut solo album.
A comprehensive nonprofit organization, LAYN provides for more than 10,000 runaway and homeless youth on the streets of Los Angeles every night, with emergency shelter and group homes for those 12-17 years old and long term transitional housing for young adults 18-24. The goal is to keep these often neglected, abused and homeless youth off the street and provide them with the basic necessities of life such as safety, food, shelter, counseling and supportive services.
To watch, donate and download “Gotten,” click here: slashonline.com/gotten.
To donate directly to the Los Angeles Youth Network:
http://layn.org/donate.html.
Shot in downtown LA, the star-studded cast for “Gotten” features SLASH as himself, as well as Amanda “AJ” Milchalka (“Hellcats,” Super 8), Kristin Bauer (“True Blood”), Clifton Collins Jr. (Traffic, Capote), Jacob Vargas (Next Friday, Traffic), Sevier Crespo (Fast Lane) and Judd Nelson (The Breakfast Club), among others.
Check out the behind-the-scenes making of the video here: slashonline.com/gotten.
“This video was created to make people take notice of the homeless teen epidemic which is rampant in L.A. as well as in the rest of the country,” explains SLASH. “The story in this video is just one scenario amid millions of potential situations happening at any given time in Los Angeles alone. Everybody involved with the making of this video selflessly donated their time and talents to this cause. I thank them with all my heart.”
“LAYN is extremely grateful to SLASH, Astound Studios, GenAudio and the entire creative force that has come together to support the programs and services of LAYN for homeless and runaway youth often missed by so many systems and who have such limited options for support,” explains Mark Supper Executive Director of the Los Angeles Youth Network. “Your donation helps us prevent the potential harm these youth are vulnerable and at risk for, and assists us in keeping them from being exploited or victimized on the streets of Los Angeles.”
“Gotten” was remixed at Astound Studios (www.astoundstudios.net) from its original version using GenAudio’s unique 3D spatial audio technology, AstoundSound®, which is based on over two decades of R&D into how the brain processes audio information. AstoundSound delivers a deeper and significantly enhanced artist-fan connection that stimulates a powerful artist-fan connection triggering a more intensive emotional response. “The team at Astound Studios and GenAudio were very excited to work on this with SLASH and his people,” said Jerry Mahabub, CEO of GenAudio and Owner of Astound Studios. “SLASH is a visionary, an idol to many, and a friend to me. It was both an honor and a pleasure to work on this project for the benefit of homeless youth that need all of our help.”

Jonathan Davis of Korn says: “We’re excited to bring Korn‘s new show to North Carolina and we fully intend on blasting out the loudest set of new dope sh#t ever at the Carolina Rebellion!!!”
“It is an absolute honor to be the headliner at such an amazing festival. It’s been a minute North Carolina…It’s good to be back. We can’t wait to see the masses at the Rebellion!” comments Brent Smith of Shinedown.
“Along with AEG Live, Right Arm is beyond excited to unleash the Carolina Rebellion lineup,” says Gary Spivack, co-executive producerof the festival for Right Arm Entertainment. “Like last year, it was our goal to make sure the 2012 lineup was stacked from top to bottom. Three stages of non-stop rock ‘n roll and a Friday night party to kick it all off…The ultimate rock festival in the Carolinas. Let the Rebellion begin!”
General Admission tickets for Carolina Rebellion go on sale to the public on Friday, February 17 at 10am EST at www.carolinarebellion.com and www.ticketmaster.com. Based on 2011 attendee feedback, Carolina Rebellion organizers have implemented various upgrades and vast venue improvements to provide a premier concert experience at the multi-stage rock festival. The new centrally-located site provides plenty of space to expand, including more food and beverage stands, merchandise stands, restrooms and parking, and also offers more traffic routes to and from the event.
“When our fans speak, we listen,” commented Joe Litvag, co-executive producer of the festival for AEG Live. “We personally responded to every person who sent us comments, and because of that important feedback, our motto this year is ‘Let’s double it!’ Double the number of entrance points into the festival, double the number of concession stands, double the number of merchandise stands, and double the number of locations for free water…We’re taking the steps to make Carolina Rebellion an upgraded experience for everyone.”
In addition, all ticket prices will include parking to ensure quicker access to the parking areas, and earlier entry into the parking areas and will be allowed, along with earlier door times, to better alleviate the traffic and lines. The inclusion of the new Camping Packages will encourage fans to arrive on Friday starting at 10am and stay until Noon on Sunday, thereby relieving traffic congestion on Saturday.
Further improvements to amenities include: a larger box office area for will call pickup, shade locations in public areas and the Hangover Recovery VIP Lounge area inside the festival grounds to allow those with VIP Lounge tickets to have a special place to enjoy the event.
“Our sponsors mean as much to us as our fans do,” added Litvag. “And without the support of music-centric companies like Monster Energy, who present our two main stages at Rebellion, we couldn’t put a festival of this size and scope on for the people.”
Carolina Rebellion is also proud to be sponsored by Jägermeister, Hangover Recovery, and f.y.e. – for your entertainment (which will be on site selling CDs and DVDs and will host band autograph signings throughout the festival day). Carolina Rebellion is produced by Right Arm Entertainment and AEG Live, the same team that produces the highly successful Rock On The Range in Columbus, OH. Tickets for the 2011 inaugural Carolina Rebellion sold out more than one month in advance and attendance exceeded 30,000.
Rockingham Speedway is located at 2152 N US HWY 1, Rockingham, NC, less than two hours from Charlotte, Raleigh/Durham, Columbia and Greensboro.

1 SLASH TO RELEASE SECOND STUDIO SOLO ALBUM MAY 22
SLASH–the iconic, Grammy-winning rock guitarist and songwriter–is currently in a Los Angeles studio putting the finishing touches on his second solo album. The as-yet-untitled disc is due out May 22 on SLASH’s own label Dik Hayd International distributed through EMI and will follow his 2010 debut album Slash and his November 2011 first-ever live solo album, the two-CD/DVD set Made In Stoke 24/7/11. Notably, the Slash album debuted on the Billboard Top 200 chart at #3 (#1 on the Rock chart, #1 on the Independent chart, and #1 on the Hard Music chart). Digitally, the album also became the #1 overall digital album and hit #1 on iTunes in 13 countries. Internationally, the disc achieved Top 5 chart positions in over a dozen major territories, hitting #1 in both Japan and New Zealand.
For the new album, SLASH—along with and his bandmates Myles Kennedy (vocals), Brent Fitz (drums) and Todd Kerns (bass)–have teamed with producer Eric Valentine, who also produced the Slash disc. All the songs were written together by SLASH and Kennedy, and cameras have been rolling throughout the entire making of the album. Check out exclusive behind-the-scenes footage airing weekly beginning today at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIYbyb8xXTQ. SLASH also talks about the album and forthcoming tour (dates TBA) this Q&A:
Looking at all your Twitter updates, you sound really pumped about the new disc. This time around, you and Myles wrote all the songs and he sings lead on all the tracks. What inspired this scenario since your debut solo album featured multiple vocalists (including Myles on two songs)?
Well having Myles sing on the first record inspired me to take him on the road, then taking him on the road inspired me to have him sing on the whole record. So yeah the tour last year definitely inspired the decision for him to sing on the new record. He has a really broad range. He is just very musical as far as his melodic style is concerned and he’s also very lyrical and just a really powerful singer. There’s a lot of positives about the way he sings.
Perhaps you want to talk a bit here about your other bandmates and what they each bring to the sound?
There’s Brent who is probably one of the best drummers I’ve ever played with–he has a great way of playing very powerful rock n roll while still being able to keep it behind the beat and sexy. And then Todd has got to be one of the most overall talented musicians I’ve worked with, just a really great bass player. Todd’s very quick in the studio, a quick learner and creative as a writer; on top of that, he’s also a great singer.
Beyond you and Myles writing all the songs and Myles singing all the leads, in what other ways is the new album perhaps different from your debut solo album?
Myles and I basically collaborated on the new material. The main thing is we wrote these songs together which is a big difference from the last album where I wrote each song with all of the different collaborators. The whole creative nucleus is between Myles and me. On top of this, the whole rhythm section of Brent and Todd brings something to the table and changes the dynamic completely from the last record–it’s much more cohesive.
With your record company Dik Hayd Records, you remain an independent artist and work with major companies for distribution. Can you talk about how you as an artist benefit by this scenario in these interesting times for the music industry?
It puts me more in the driver’s seat of how I want to market the record, but even more importantly than that, I’m not giving half of everything that comes in on the album to the record company.
Eric Valentine returns as producer for the new disc. What do you feel he brings as a producer to these songs and the overall approach?
The first thing we always talk about with Eric is he’s an extremely gifted musician, but he is basically as talented an engineer, so it makes for a great combination as a producer. As a person he’s easy to work with–he’s very patient and he lives and breathes what he does. That’s a lot like how I am, we’re similar; I can call him at any moment and ask him a question or share an idea I have with him. He’s always in his element and it’s something that I can appreciate.
You toured the world seven times with the last album. What are your tour plans for the new album?
Right now we’re starting off with radio shows in the states and then we’ll do as much of Europe as possible. We’ll also tour in Asia and Australia, and try to hit South Africa this year as well as India and a couple other spots. Trying to just broaden our horizons a bit.
