Tantric 37 Channels

Louisville-based eclectic rock act Tantric have just signed a deal with Pavement Entertainment and will release their eagerly awaited fifth studio album entitled ’37 Channels’ in September 17, 2013. It’s the band’s first work since their 2009 release, ‘Mind Control’.

“37 Channels” maintains Tantric’s tradition of exploring new directions by integrating diverse influences such as old school country, southern and classic rock and Motown with the trademark Tantric sound. Frontman Hugo Ferreira’s unique soulful baritone vocals, ranging from angsty rasps to melodious melancholy are once again present, along with  the usual intricate guitar work and infectious riffs layered over complex textures.

Featured guests on the album include Shooter Jennings and members of Hinder, 3 Doors Down, Saving Abel and Uncle Kracker. The album title comes from what Ferreira describes as”What goes on in my brain constantly; 37 things or channels if you will, all at once vying for my attention”. Typically diverse, the track selection offers unexpected content that will surely impress, as well as something for loyal fans. This album also marks a change in Tantric’s structure, establishing it as Ferreira’s ongoing musical project and allowing more freedom for collaborations without deviating from the established Tantric sound.

Also featured on ’37 Channels’ is Leif Garrett who recorded guest vocals on the track “My Turn” in which Hugo commented, “It’s an absolute honor to have such a iconic artist such as Leif Garrett on my record. I know that his voice is cooler now than ever in my opinion. Not much more to say. I’m just honored to have him on it. Rad as [expletive,]” the band’s front man Hugo Ferreira is quoted as saying on Garrett’s website.

Recording NEW single with Hugo Ferreira as producer..

Ohio modern rockers, 8KOunt, will be joining forces with Tantric frontman Hugo Ferreira as producer for their next single. Break Down Productions and KOnkussion Productions are happy to announce the partnership. Recording is set to begin the last weekend in February.

“8KOunt is pure American uncut rock-n-roll” Hugo Ferreira

“I’m really looking forward to working with Hugo” said 8KOunt frontman “Sugar” James Sayer. “I got a chance to hang out with him some and see how he works with a band. He just has a great way in the studio and I’m anxious to see what kind of alchemy we can create!”

8 KOunt is a hard-driving modern rock band based out of Ohio. Founded in 2004 by vocalist “Sugar” James Sayer, the current lineup featuring Robby D’Lor (Bass), Niki Tirey (Guitar) and Tarry Summers (Drums) has been in place since February 2008. The band has already shared the stage with the likes of Saliva, Shinedown, Sick Puppies and Tantric; proving their live bona fides in front of screaming audiences. The band has also scored international attention for their two recordings Cornered and Getaway Car in publications such as Metal Edge, Hit Parader and Concrete Corner as well as Fuse television.

Hugo Ferreira is best known for his work in the band Tantric which he co-founded along with former members of Days of the New. The band released their first album in 2001, with Hugo providing lead vocals. This debut proved a success, including hits such as “Breakdown”, “Mourning” and “Astounded.” The band recently released “Mind Control” with the hit single of the same name.

Also…..JUST ANNOUNCED!!

8KOunt will be opening for TANTRIC March 20th @ McGuffys House Of Rock in Dayton, Ohio. Get your tickets now as this show could easily sell out. Respond to this email to get your tickets @ $12

0 Tantric – Mind Control (2009)

TantricMindControlOn August 4th, Tantric released a follow up effort to their somewhat disappointing disc The End Begins from 2008.

Is Mind Control more of the same, or is this a return to form for the Louisville, KY alt rockers?

I immediately noticed the heaviness of the opening track “Mind Control”, and was hoping this was the direction the band was heading.  I wouldn’t call Mind Control a heavy album by any means, but there are some songs on this CD that are much harder than I am used to hearing Tantric play.

“Kick Back” sees the band heading into a Shinedown like direction, while the title track “Mind Control” brings Creed to mind.

The opening riffs of “Fall To the Ground” nearly reminded me of early Lynch Mob. Hugo Ferreira gets a little growly with his vocals on this tune. This song gets better with every listen.

I am not sure what to think about the song “Coming Undone”.   This song is quite a mixed bag for me.  It almost sounds as if Tantric is trying to head into the Tool territory.   The song starts off with a really cool violin and piano intro, and then blasts off into a grungy mid-tempo number. For whatever reason, this songs sounds unnatural for Tantric, but I must admit that it is growing on me.

“Desert Me” is a typical post grunge song that, if anything sounds kind of generic.  If I were to hear this song on the radio, I would not be able to tell it apart from a lot of the other stuff that is being played today.

“The Past is the Past” has some cool guitar parts that bring U2 to mind.  This song will be a hit without a doubt.

“Walk Away” is a catchy rocker, and “What Are You Waiting For” sounds like it is a hit waiting to happen. Both songs are  enhanced with the violin of Marcus Ratzenboeck.  The violin isn’t an instrument that you hear much of in rock music, and I appreciate his playing on these songs, and on this album.

“Lets Start” is another harder edged tune that rocks pretty well.  Half of the song has this cool riff, that brings U2 to mind once more. The other half has these cool heavy crunch filled guitar riffs. This is a pretty cool tune that I would like to hear Tantric do more of.

Tantric has released another solid effort with Mind Control.  There are at least seven or eight songs that I will get a lot of replay out of. While this disc may not be as good as their debut record, it is easily their best one since then. This is one of the better alternative rock albums of 2009.

TANTRIC’s fourth album, MIND CONTROL, was released today on the Silent Majority Group label (through Warner Music Group’s Independent Label Group).  Produced by Brett Hestla (Creed, Framing Hanley, Dark New Day), it’s the follow-up to 2008’s THE END BEGINS, which produced the Top Five Rock hit, “Down and Out.”

The album’s first single, “Mind Control,” is currently #34 on the Mediabase Active Rock chart, garnering spins on over 50 radio stations nationwide including, WRIF/Detroit, WRAT/New Jersey, WIIL/Chicago, WCCC/Hartford, WIYY/Baltimore, and Sirius XM’s “Octane” channel.  The Mason Dixon-directed video for the track also makes its world premiere today, all day, as part of MTV2’s “UNLEASHED” program.

As praised in a recent album review in Guitar Edge magazine:  “…on this new album, the quintet offers some tantalizing nuggets such as guitarist’s Joe Pessia’s acoustic riffing on ‘The Past Is the Past’ and ‘What Are You Waiting For,’ at least one of which is almost certain to be a huge radio smash; the hyper-aggressive chorus vocal of ‘Coming Undone’; and the Rob Zombie meets Alice in Chains with an E-Bow ‘Let’s Start.’  Four stars.”

Meanwhile, the band–Hugo Ferreira (lead vocals, keyboards), Joe Pessia (guitars), Erik Leonhardt (bass and vocals), Marcus Ratzenboeck (violin) and Richie Monica (drums)—recently started their U.S. tour along with special guests Aranda and Vayden, which includes various radio station festivals along the route.

FIRST SINGLE STARTS ITS RISE TO THE TOP OF THE ROCK CHARTS;

BAND SET TO LAUNCH TWO-MONTH TOUR

WITH ARANDA AND VAYDEN STARTING JULY 3

TANTRIC’s fourth album, MIND CONTROL, will now be released August 4 on the Silent Majority Group label (through Warner Music Group’s Independent Label Group). Originally scheduled for July 21, the album was produced by Brett Hestla (Creed, Framing Hanley, Dark New Day) and is the follow-up to 2008’s THE END BEGINS, which produced the Top Five Rock hit, “Down and Out.”

The album’s first single, “Mind Control,” is currently in the Top 40 on the Mediabase Active Rock chart after only two weeks, garnering spins on over 50 radio stations nationwide including Phoenix, Detroit, Dallas, Houston and Chicago, and including Sirius XM’s “Octane” channel. A video for the track was recently shot in Nashville with director Mason Dixon (who directed the video for “Down and Out”) and will be debuting nationwide via MTV2’s Unleashed on August 4.

In touring news, the band–Hugo Ferreira (lead vocals, keyboards), Joe Pessia (guitars), Erik Leonhardt (bass and vocals), Marcus Ratzenboeck (violin) and Richie Monica (drums)—is gearing up for a U.S. tour with their special guests Aranda and Vayden starting July 31 in Syracuse, which will also include various radio station festivals along the route.

After spending nearly a year on the road promoting THE END BEGINS, Tantric returned home to begin penning their new album. Except home, for each member, was a different place in the U.S. So instead of sitting together in a rehearsal space in the same city, the members of Tantric wrote separately, sending files electronically to Hugo, who compiled them into working demos. After a few months, the band had written almost thirty songs.

“It was a really unique way of approaching a record,” Hugo says. “It was definitely more of a collaboration than the last record in terms of writing. And we wrote it together even though we were thousands of miles apart. I don’t know how, but we really wrote an incredible record in a short period of time. I’ve always wanted to make a record like this.”

The band then reconvened in the secluded studio in Poconos where they had recorded their last album, where they spent a week playing the songs live and experimenting with what they had written long distance for MIND CONTROL. Inevitably, some of the numbers shifted and evolved during that week.

“We had written the whole record over the computer,” says Erik. “So a lot of it changed once we got into the studio. When you have everyone in the same room the ideas start changing. ‘What if we do this? What if we do that?’ We definitely went heavier on this record, too. I think it has a lot to do with having all new members. This is the new band, full on and writing together. We never said ‘let’s write a heavier record,’ this is just what happened.”

The songs on MIND CONTROL are far ranging both in terms of lyrical content and sonic aesthetic, something the band feels truly encapsulates who they are as artists. The title track and first single, “Mind Control,” a song about the media, sits on the heavier end of the spectrum, chugging with propulsive guitars and an arena-ready rock melody. “What Are You Waiting For,” fills the other end of the spectrum, an emotionally urgent power ballad that immediately engages its listener. The album, as a cohesive whole, reveals the band that Tantric has become. After a tumultuous ten-year career, a shifting of members, and four albums spent searching for themselves, Tantric has solidified their line-up and crafted an album that successfully represents who they are.

“My goal is always to do what I love and survive at it,” explains Hugo, “but I would like this record to take us farther than the last record. I would like it to establish Tantric as this band that’s not going anywhere. We’ve been here for four records already and every record that we’re delivering is getting better. I’m so proud of MIND CONTROL. It’s the one I’ve always wanted to make.”

TANTRIC’S ‘MIND CONTROL’

SET FOR RELEASE JULY 21

VIA SILENT MAJORITY GROUP

TANTRIC–Hugo Ferreira (lead vocals, keyboards), Joe Pessia (guitars), Erik Leonhardt (bass and vocals), Marcus Ratzenboeck (violin), Richie Monica (drums)–will be releasing their fourth album, MIND CONTROL, July 21 on the Silent Majority Group label (through Warner Music Group’s Independent Label Group).  It was produced by Brett Hestla (Creed, Framing Hanley, Dark New Day) and is the follow-up to 2008’s THE END BEGINS, which produced the Top Five Rock hit, “Down and Out.”

TANTRIC was formed from the ashes of Platinum acoustic rock band Days of the New.  After scores of U.S. tours, multiple Rock hits including ”Breakdown,” “Mourning,” “Astounded,” “Hey Now,” and “Down and Out,” TANTRIC has grown into a mainstay at the Rock radio formats.  While the band’s recurrent tracks continue to enjoy plenty of radio play, their fourth album, MIND CONTROL, is being greeted by early listeners as their “heaviest and hookiest” work to date.  The title track—the album’s first single–will surely become, yet again, another rock radio staple.  A video will hit the TV and Internet airwaves in the next few weeks.

MIND CONTROL is sure to follow in the footsteps of THE END BEGINS, which Billboard described as:  “…remarkable…a well-realized blend of post-grunge rock, crafty melodies and pop finesse, sans overt commercial pandering.”

In touring news, look for the band to launch a full-scale summer tour in July.  Details are forthcoming.

America’s most diverse hard rock festival just keeps getting better. That’s because national recording artists Saliva and Tantric have joined the already impressive Rock Gone Wild lineup. Classic Glam rockers Tigertailz will also bring their unique presence to the festival. Rock Gone Wild is slated for August 20-23, 2009 in Algona, Iowa. Tickets are available now by visiting www.rockgonewild.com.

Mainstream rock stars Saliva are no strangers to the Billboard charts. As the band prepares to release their new album Cinco Diablo on Island later this month, Saliva will look to repeat past album success. Five albums, platinum records and many sold-out shows later, Saliva promises an in-your-face set on the main stage at Rock Gone Wild. Saliva is Josey Scott, Wayne Swinny, Dave Novotny, Paul Crosby and Jonathan Montoya.

tantric2

Tantric rock harder with each passing year. Forming in 1999, the band has released three albums, reaching the much-coveted platinum status. Fans love the band’s self-titled debut, featuring the hit single “Breakdown.”  Around for about a decade, Tantric has evolved and now embraces a heavier sound and invites an active pit at shows. The band released The End Begins earlier this year on their new label Silent Majority. Tantric is Hugo Ferreira, Richie Monica, Joe Pessia, Erik Leonhardt and Marcus Ratzenboeck.

tigertailz

Tigertailz bring an international flair to Rock Gone Wild. The Wales-based band formed in the 1980s and instantly gained fans, thanks in part to their image. Heavy make-up and wild hair became the calling card of Tigertailz. It doesn’t hurt that the band creates songs with memorable hooks. Tigertailz has released eight albums, with Bezerk spawning the band’s signature tune “Love Bomb Baby.” Tigertailz are Kim Hooker, Jay Pepper and Matt Blakout.

Thousands are expected to attend the inaugural Rock Gone Wild festival, bringing significant revenue to the state of Iowa. Bands already announced for Rock Gone Wild include Puddle of Mudd, Skid Row, Kix, Great White, Hardcore Superstar, Lizzy Borden, Dangerous Toys, Helix, Saigon Kick, Rhino Bucket and Junkyard with many more to come!

Visit www.rockgonewild.com and http://anatomyofafestival.wordpress.com/ each Tuesday for a new band announcement.

Rock Gone Wild will take place at the Freedom Park festival grounds, located at 2507- 160th Avenue in Algona, Iowa.

If you build it, they will rock.

1 Tantric – The End Begins (Release Year – 2008)

  • August 26, 2008
  • by Rob Rockitt
  • · CD Reviews Q-Z · Entertainment · Hard Rock Music · Music

“The End Begins” is an appropriate title for Tantric’s first album in four years. After recording the follow-up to 2004’s “After We Go” the band watched as the album was shelved and forgotten by Maverick Records. This eventually led to the three original members, Jesse Vest, Todd Whitener, and Matt Taul walking away leaving vocalist Hugo Ferreira to soldier on alone. Instead of fighting to get “Tantric III” released Ferreira decided to start fresh with new members Kevin Miller, formerly of Fuel, on drums, Erik Leonhardt on bass, Marcus Ratzenboeck on electric violin (???) and guitarist Joe Pessia, who had previously played in Dramagods with none other than Nuno Bettencourt and Kevin Figueiredo from Extreme.

Everything gets started with “Regret”, which sounds a like bit like “the Cult meets Cold” with the opening guitar and Ferreira’s vocal style. Joe Pessia may not have the worshippers of the Guitar Gods bowing at his feet, but he is able to pull off a nice solo and after a couple of listens you will find yourself tapping your feet and playing air drums on the steering wheel as you are driving down the road.

Next up is the lead off single and video “Down & Out”, I think the song stands much better by itself than with the video which is the way it is supposed to be. It took me a while to get into the song because it reminds me of the rap/rock days which I am not very fond of. Electric violinist, Marcus Ratzenboeck makes the most of his chance to stand in the rock n’ roll spotlight with a nice piece of playing throughout.

The third track “the One” was originally recorded for the afore mentioned Tantric III. Ferreira decided to recut the track as a duet with Candlebox’s Kevin Martin. Both singers go back and forth trading the lyrics which in my opinion works as “the One” is my favorite song on this album and it should be a big hit on Modern Rock Radio.

I was a little turned off by the jazz feel of “Love Song” but it picks up at the chorus after which I found myself able to get into it a little more. A few other songs I was able to get into were Wishing, Lucky One, Why Don’t You, and Lay.

Now “The End Begins” isn’t going to change the rock n’ roll world, but then again I can only think of a handful of bands or artists that have ever done that. What this release is going to give the fans of “post grunge” music and rock in general is a pretty solid performance from beginning to end. If you were a fan of Tantric before you will be a fan after hearing “the End Begins” if you weren’t a fan before, Ferreira and his boys might be able to open your ears with some nice musicianship throughout.
