The band were also honoured and privileged that the late Storm Thorgerson and his team designed the artwork for the new album / single and Storm was working on the album cover design just before his sad passing. In a statement released by Storm Studios, they said:
“Never one for looking back or resting on his laurels Storm always got a thrill from working with young bands and from the idea of ‘newness’ in general. In his last few months Storm and the Storm Studios team threw ourselves wholeheartedly into many new projects and New Horizon was one of the last covers we designed together. As is our usual modus operandi, we interrogated the band at length about their music and lives, and listened to the album on repeat for a month. Our final designs were submitted to The Answer very shortly before Storm died. The image itself came from our thoughts about endings and new beginnings, very poignant for all concerned.”
The Downpatrick quartet consists of Cormac Neeson (vocals), Paul Mahon (guitar), Micky Waters (bass) and James Heatley (drums) and their UK tour will kick off in Belfast on October 11th. Australian band TRACER will perform as very special guests on the UK mainland run in what promises to be one of the finest rock tours at the end of 2013.

0 2006 Videos – The Answer – Under The Sky
I am not sure when the whole revival rock scene started, but The Answer is certainly one of the most successful one of those bands to date. “Under The Sky” is from The Answer’s excellent debut album, Rise. Check out the video clip below!
0 The Answer Announce New Album
The Answer’s follow up effort to their 2009 album, ‘Everyday Demons’ is called ‘Revival’.. It was produced by the Grammy-nominated Chris ‘Frenchie’ Smith, and was mixed by Chris Sheldon. The initial run of the album will be a limited edition deluxe format with 24-page booklet & band sleeve-notes, plus an 11-track second disc containing previously unreleased studio, acoustic, demo & cover material. The cd has live reordings from the tour and two new recordings, “Rock N’ Roll Outlaw”, which is a Rose Tattoo cover, and a new song called “Fooled Me”. Vodpod videos no longer available.3 Rob Rockitt’s Top 13 of 2009
It seems like every year I put together a top list at Hard Rock Hideout, it becomes a harder task. In 2009, there was a crazy amount of excellent releases, and choosing the best ten was a daunting task to say the least. It was too hard to pick ten, so of course, I had to add some additional releases to my top list. The following releases are my top of 2009. All of these are worth picking up, and I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase any of these a second time. Check them out and see what you think!
#13 Shake City – S/T
Eonian Records has released quite a few undiscovered gems in 2009. Their best release of 2009 is easily Shake City. Shake City features the original singer of Warrant, Adam Shore. I don’t know why Adam left Warrant, but the fates should have been kinder to his band Shake City. If this CD would have been released twenty years ago, this disc could have easily gone platinum. It is better than many of the hair metal releases of the late 80’s. It is a crime that this band didn’t get the mainstream success of their peers. If you are a hair metal fan, you need to find this CD now. You wont be disappointed.
#12 Papa Roach – Metamorphosis
Papa Roach started introducing songs from Metamorphosis into their live sets in 2008, and as a result, I was familiar with several of the tunes by the time this CD was released. In my opinion, this is the strongest Papa Roach CD to date, with several hit worthy tunes. A worthy pick up for the modern rock fans out there.
#11 Cheap Trick – The Latest
I must admit that I have never been the biggest Cheap Trick fan over the years, but I can not deny how good their latest CD, The Latest is. While this may not be the most rocking CD of 2009, it does have some fun rockers, and is quality music all the way through. Robin Zander still sounds great after all of these years. This is a must own CD for Cheap Trick fans, all others ought to give it a shot.
#10 Chickenfoot – S/T
This is another CD that I didn’t really know what to expect. Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony have been playing together in Van Halen for years, but how would this new band work out with Joe Satriani and Chad Smith? Satriani’s playing on this CD is great, and when he does cut loose, he doesn’t over shadow the rest of the band. Overall, Chickenfoot is a supergroup that could have some legs. I hope these guys stick around for a few more releases. Van Halen’s other half still delivers.
#9 The Answer – Everyday Demons
The Answer’s debut CD Rise was one of my favorites of 2007. I had high expectations for their U.S. Debut, Everyday Demons. Luckily, it did not disappoint me in the least. Everyday Demons is powered by Zeppelin influenced rockers “Demon Eyes”, “On and On” “Walkin’ Mat”. The band couldn’t have asked for a bigger tour to be on in 2009. Opening up for AC/DC has gained them a ton of new fans. I can’t wait to see what the band has in store for us next. The only thing I didn’t like about Everyday Demons was cover art.
#8 Steel Panther – Feel the Steel
Steel Panther could be the greatest hair metal parody band of all time. Feel the Steel is packed full of tongue in cheek lyrics that many folks may find offensive. You can’t deny the stellar musicianship of these California rockers. I had the opportunity to see the band play at M3 earlier this year, and they did not disappoint. When is the U.S. Club tour guys?
#7 Charm City Devils – Let’s Rock N’ Roll
Who would have thought that drummer John Allen would front a new kick ass rock and roll band in 2009? I didn’t at all. I have been rockin’ with CCD’s debut CD since its release. This is quality hard rock all the way through. In case you missed it, Charm City Devils had a pretty big year with their opening slot on the 2009 Cruefest. I am still hopeful that they will do a club tour, (and break out some Child Play tunes in their set).
#6 KISS – Sonic Boom
Sonic Boom is the first KISS CD in a long time that I have been able to listen to, all the way through without skipping a song. While I don’t consider this CD their best, it is definitely in their top ten, if not top five CD’s of all time. I didn’t expect this CD to be much. Sonic Boom was one of 2009’s biggest surprises.
#5 Coldspell – Infinite Stargaze
When I first heard the demo tracks from Coldspell in 2008, I about crapped myself. I couldn’t wait to hear Coldspell’s debut CD. I have played this CD over and over again in 2009, and will continue to do so for years to come. This is melodic rock at its finest.
#4 Winger – Karma
Holy Crap?! I get the feeling that Kip Winger and Reb Beach were pissed off when they wrote this record. This is easily the heaviest Winger album to date. Reb Beach unleashes his fury on his six strings, and Karma shines as a result. The songs aren’t all heavy, but they are all top quality. I am hopeful that Kip and company will tour for this album in 2010. Great Stuff, and worthy to be in anyone’s collection.
#3 Black Robot – S/T
Black Robot – I had no expectations when I first heard Black Robot’s self titled effort. I figured any band with former Buckcherry members would probably rock, but I had no idea that I would enjoy this CD as much as I have. “Cocaine” is easily the best cover song I have heard in 2009. Black Robot
gets the nod for best new band of 2009. If you missed this CD when it was released earlier this year, you will have to wait to grab this in 2010. The original pressing is out of print, but Black Robot will be re-releasing this CD next year with bonus tracks !!
#2 Paul Gilbert & Freddie Nelson – United States
United States has been my feelgood CD of 2009. Paul Gilbert’s guitar work is quite impressive, and Freddie Nelson’s mimicry of Freddie Mercury is pretty incredible. Once I started playing this, I couldn’t stop. Absolutely fantastic music!
#1 The Last Vegas – Whatever Gets You Off
The Last Vegas has been rocking hard since 2003, but their 2009 CD, Whatever Gets You Off is easily their breakthrough release. It didn’t hurt that they had a little help from Nikki Sixx, and DJ Ashba who produced this disc. I still don’t understand why this band didn’t get the nod for Cruefest last summer. They seemed tailor made for that festival but the promoters didn’t ask for my advice. Whatever Gets You Off is crazy good. Apologize might be the biggest power ballad of this decade (no I am not kidding). This is another great party CD, and easily my favorite of 2009.

0 The Answer – Everyday Demons (Release Year – 2009)
The Answer has returned with their sophomore effort “Everyday Demons”. If you are a regular visitor to Hard Rock Hideout, you have read my prattling about these awesome Irish Rockers for a while now. I have been extremely excited to hear this album, and after a couple of spins, I couldn’t be more overjoyed.
“Everyday Demons” is The Answer’s full length debut in the United States. As good as The Answer’s first album “Rise” was, I believe “Everyday Demons” has managed to top The Answer’s European debut.
I love it when a band brings their “A” game to the studio. You can tell that The Answer put a lot of heart into this disc.
I had the pleasure of hearing some of these songs prior to receiving a copy of the CD. “On and On” first showed up on Yahoo Music last month, and I loved this track on the first play. Getting to hear it on a real stereo system, gives me a whole new appreciation for the song. It just explodes out of the speakers just a like a stadium anthem should.
“On and On” isn’t the lone highlight on this disc. There are in fact many great songs to absorb.
“Demon Eyes” is a killer opening track with monster riffs that will get your blood pumping quickly. This song sets the stage for “Everyday Demons”.
“Too Far Gone” sees The Answer channeling their inner Zeppelin. James Heatley’s drums just explode on this track. The Zeppelinesque riff blended with Neeson’s howling vocals really drive this song home. Awesome!
After three upbeat rockers, The Answer drops the tempo down on the song “Cry Out”. This song is not one of my favorites on this disc. I just can’t seem to get into the riff on this song. It isn’t bad, but after the first three tunes, this one falls flat for me.
On the other hand, the song “Why’d You Change Your Mind” is much more to my liking. The music on this tunes oscillates between a moody low tempo number and explodes into an upbeat rocker, before heading back to its original slow pace. This is a cool tune that takes a few listens to fully appreciate.
“Pride” ought to be released as a single off of Everyday Demons. Cormac Neeson’s voice soars on this tune. This one has hit written all over it.
“Walkin’ Mat” is another tune that sees The Answer tap into their inner Zeppelin. You can’t deny the influence on this song, but it doesn’t come out sounding like a rip off aka Kingdom Come either. This is another song that I could hear getting some airplay before long. Good Stuff!
“Tonight” is the type of tune that you want to roll your car windows down and crank up loud. This song has a Thin Lizzy like vibe to it, but is a very happy, upbeat song.
“Dead of the Night” is one of my favorite tunes off “Everyday Demons”. This song is very catchy and gets in your head. This is another hit worthy tune.
“Comfort Zone” is another low to mid tempo song that needs a few listens to grow on you. I like the chorus on this tune, but it seems like it takes a while to get going.
“Evil Man” is the third song on Everyday Demons that has a Led Zeppelin like sound about it. This is a rocking tune that Paul Mahon and Mickey Waters take advantage of with their heavy riffs.
If you haven’t listened to The Answer before, “Everyday Demons” is a great place to start. If you are a fan of classic 70’s hard rock, you will enjoy this disc. The Answer has delivered another impressive release in 2009. Grab it!

0 Irish Rock Band THE ANSWER to Release U.S. Debut Album ‘EVERYDAY DEMONS’ on March 31st
Having just wrapped 42 American shows opening for AC/DC, the band heads to Europe next on the ‘BLACK ICE’ World Tour’!
THE ANSWER, four lads hailing from Downpatrick in Northern Ireland have been busy fulfilling their duties as the opening act for the North American leg of AC/DC’s Black Ice World Tour. They recently finished the 42 show run on January 31st and will soon head to Europe to continue on the Black Ice juggernaut leading up to the release of their new album, Everyday Demons.
Everyday Demons is THE ANSWER’s second LP but the first to be released here in the states. The album is due out March 31st on THE END RECORDS, distributed through RED and was recorded in summer ’08 in Los Angeles with John Travis (Kid Rock, Static-X, Killing Heidi, etc.) producing.
Announcing THE ANSWER’s Black Ice tour spot in Fall ’08, Rolling Stone wrote in a weekly “Hot List,” “No effing wonder AC/DC tapped these U.K. long-hairs to open…the singer howls like Paul Rodgers, the guitarist shreds like Jimmy Page and the lyrics are as awesomely stupid as ballin’ without a rubber.” Just two months later, in 2008’s annual late December “Hot Issue,” the publication hailed the band as “Rock Gods In Training.” Also in December, after their network television debut on The Late Show, David Letterman proclaimed, “The Answer, single handedly keeping rock and roll alive.” And Billboard magazine has named them as one of this year’s “Best Bets.”
Everyday Demons will be released throughout the world this February and March and has already debuted at #8 on Japan’s international chart. The band also topped music retailer HMV’s list of acts to break in 2009. HMV has predicted the success of Franz Ferdinand, The Arctic Monkeys and Duffy in past years.
THE ANSWER got together in spring 2000, signed a contract with the legendary Australian rock label, Albert Productions in 2005 and brought out their debut album, Rise, in 2006. “It took us three or four years to really get noticed,” guitarist Paul Mahon explains, “but then it all started to happen at once.” The band have performed with icons such as the Rolling Stones, The Who and Aerosmith, playing celebrated headlining tours in England, Japan and Australia.

0 The Answer – Never Too Late EP (Release Year – 2008)
So you have attended one of AC/DC concerts on their Black Ice tour and wondered who this band, The Answer is that opened up for them.
The Never too Late EP is an awesome introduction to The Answer. Not only does it have some of the best songs from the band’s debut album, “Rise” (which was never released in the United States) it also has a new tune, “Highwater or Hell” which is pretty darn good too.
The DVD included with this CD, has all of The Answer’s videos that they released from Rise, as well as some pretty cool interviews with the band.
This is a lot of music for such a very small price, and is a great prelude to The Answer’s new album, “Everyday Demons” which is due in February.
You can find the Never Too Late EP at most retailers for roughly $6.00. It is worth every penny. Go get it!!

2 Hard Rock Hideout’s Top 5 Concerts of 2008!
In 2008, I think I attended a record number of live shows. In no order, I saw the following artists: The Bulletboys, Joey Belladonna, Van Halen, AC/DC, The Answer, Bang Tango, L.A. Guns, Faster Pussycat, Hinder, Rev Theory, Trapt, Papa Roach, Buckcherry, Motley Crue, Poison, Sebastian Bach, Dokken, Airbourne, Theory of a Deadman, Disturbed, Slipknot, Endeverafter, Stonerider, RATT, Jackyl, Pop Evil and more.
Hopefully 2009 will be as good as 2008 from a live perspective!
The following are my favorites of 2008!
5. Bang Tango, L.A. Guns and Faster Pussycat
Ok, so none of these bands have their original lineups anymore. Does that mean that they rock less? Absolutely not. Bang Tango kicked ass. Marty Casey proved to be a good front man for the the Tracii Guns version of L.A. Guns, and Faster Pussycat was still sleazy as ever.
4. Stonerider, Endeverafter and Airbourne
This was my first Airbourne experience, and I will never forget it. Stonerider and Endeverafter kicked ass too.
A great show for a mere $10.00.
3. Mayhem Festival
At this show the bands that I caught live were Black Tide, Five Finger Death Punch, Airbourne, Dragonforce, Disturbed and Slipknot.
I got to meet the guys in Dragonforce and Airbourne at this show. This was my first time seeing Slipknot live. A crazy day and some great live shows!
2. Cruefest
I am biased, but I love seeing Motley Crue live. They may not be the best band in the world, but they do put on one of the best live shows. Buckcherry, Sixx A.M. and Papa Roach were all great too!
1. AC/DC with The Answer
Even though my seats were terrible, this show was excellent, and I enjoyed every minute of it. I loved getting to see The Answer for the first time. AC/DC puts on one the biggest and loudest live shows that I have ever seen. Awesome!
0 An Update From Paul Mahon From The Answer!
HRH: I haven’t posted too many of the Answer’s updates from their blog, but this one was too cool not to share!
After L.A. we got onboard the rock’n’roll train to phoenix, Arizona. It was agreat show and when we came off stage we were greeted by someone who looked familiar and said to us,”guys that was great but you’re just getting started you need to go out there and do another hr!I’ve got another gig across the street for you if your not done yet?’,it was Alice Cooper! We’re not worthy!we talked to Alice about rock’n’roll and golf,he’s playing off 4 but at this point in time is playing alittle better than that. After the show he invited us over to Cooperstown for a few drinks. It sure was fun hanging out with Alice and next time we are hitting the course! Thanks to Alice,Danny and Ralph for taking care of us!
The next show was in san Antonio and we got to meet up with our old friends the Gaults. When you go to sxsw festival in Austin texas most of the bands stay with a family in the area and the Gaults became our surrogate family during our stay!It was great to see them and hang out in Austin for a aday or 2.On our day off in Austin we did an interview and photo shoot for French magazine rockhard and spent some time on 6th street. Its quite a different atmosphere at this time of year compared to sxsw time, alittle more relaxed. After a day off we rolled out to Houston.I cant remember much about Houston other than watching “for those about to rock” from the side of the stage and the cannons not being as loud as I was expecting,I must be going deaf, they usually take your head off!Maybe my earplugs have started working.
We had a long drive to Athens Georgia ahead of us after Houston.Tiger woods golf and flight of the conchords helped us along the way.Athens is the home of rem, drivin’n’cryin and our tour manger trey. And who did we bump into in little italy but Michael stipe,he was sat in the corner……..well maybe not but mike mills came to the show a few days later. We had dinner in a great sushi bar, shots at the 40watt and few other bars.We had a dc show in Atlanta, agreat rock’n’roll town and a great audience to play to,looking forward to going back. The we had our 1st headlining show of the tour in Athens Georgia. We had hoped to do more but it didn’t work out with all the long drives we have been doing. We have only been doing 30mins a night with acdc so there were a lot of songs we hadn’t played in a while and some new ones we have yet to play to an audience. We went into a local rehearsal room, nuci’s space,in the morning to blow the dust off some songs. Then we loaded into the 40watt.It was more like the sort of gig we are used to back home. Our set was abit longer and we played come follow me,
Demon eyes,
Walking Mat
Doctor
Never too late,
Tonight,
On and on,
Comfort Zone,
Rosalie,
Under the sky,
Encore-Dead of the night
Preachin’
It was good to be playing alonger set and after playing arenas for a few months we had almost forgotten what it was like to play a show but after a few tunes we were tearing it up like usual! After the show we indulged in double shots of patron and thin lizzies!!Thanks to the dumps and pride parade for supporting and rocking out.Look forward to seeing you guys again.Big thanks to ,nuci’s space,Rick, barrie and all at the 4owatt for making it happen. And clay enough with that george jones stuff you better know the chords to sin city next time we’re back, that’s all im saying!!
When you live on a tour bus one thing I’ve noticed is that your perception of time goes right out the window and so it goes we played charlotte yesterday and I’ll be damned if I didn’t get up at 5pm and go onstage at 7.30pm,we still rocked though!!I guess you become conditioned to put everything into that 30mins everynight and the day revolves around that whether you realise it or not,I guess dave lee roth was right!
And today here we are in jackson,no sign of any gin-soaked barroom queens unfortunately. We are beside the beach and its as warm as an irish summer,I hope its snowing when I go home!!!!Anyway we have 2 more shows to go,1 in fort lauderdale and one in tampa, then we will fly home for xmas!!!I guess we are just about ready to go home for a few days though Im sure im gonna wake up in the middle of the night, grab my guitar and wonder what time we are onstage and think damn im at home!!But sure we will be back to do it all over again in january!!If I don’t put anymore blogs before I go home I would just like to say Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year to everyone! Thanks for all your support and looking forward to seein all our friends old and new next year and playing everyday demons for y’all!
Cheers,
Paul…
