0 Three Days Grace – Transit Of Venus (2012)

Back with some hard hitting, gritty, modern rock tunes, Three Days Grace delivers Transit Of Venus, the follow up to 2009’s solid Life Starts Now. Returning to give fans more of the same, Three Days Grace’s latest album is another enjoyable collection of modern rock tunes filled with anger, angst, pain, and passion. And while that is the same formula the band has followed since their debut album in 2003, it is not necessarily a bad thing. If some is good, more is better, and if a certain sound and style works, why try to reinvent yourselves? Three Days Grace just delivers more solid rock and roll.

Darker, grittier, and perhaps even more angry than ever before, on Transit Of Venus, Three Days Grace returns to themes of hatred, problems, and the depressing side of life. While hope is offered in songs like “Time That Remains,” the majority of the songs deal with the negative side of life. Themes of oppression, anti-authority, and taking control of your own life run rampant throughout Transit Of Venus.

“Operate” is a hard hitting, rocking song that will find fists in the air and throats raw from screaming. Lead singer Adam Grontier crafted a sing-along anthem with “Operate” that is bound to find a lot of fans screaming to the beat. The chorus is a powerful, bombastic blast of rage fueled anger that explodes out of the song. Hearing this song live in concert would be a real treat.

“Give In To Me,” is another powerful blend of smooth harmony and heavy, anger fueled, rock. This song jumps out at the listener with powerful riffs and commanding vocals. The thrash/grunge infusion helps take “Give In To Me” to a higher level of joyfulness. Add in some expert playing by lead guitarist Barry Stock and the combination adds up to a winning song.

The aforementioned “Time That Remains,”  portrays a picture of hope with a look toward the future. Grontier’s lyrics are full of beauty and sage advice, telling that the past should not be relived, and the pain of the past should not be dwelled on. Moving forward with life is all that anyone can do. With a beautiful melody and terrific harmony, Grontier sings like an angel on “Time That Remains.” This is an uplifting song that shows how future achievements in life can be grand, despite what has happened in the past. One should use the time that remains to create great memories, and forget about the pains of the past.

Three Days Grace has once again delivered a solid, enjoyable, album in Transit Of Venus. Fans of the band are going to love this record a lot, but there is plenty for new fans to grab onto as well. With the proper balance between rockers and ballads, nice melodies, deep lyrics, and plenty of energy, Transit Of Venus is a solid record worthy of quite a few plays through the I-Pod.

ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK UPROAR FESTIVAL

AND AVENGED SEVENFOLD

RAISE FUNDS FOR NATIONAL FALLEN FIREFIGHTERS FOUNDATION AND

NATIONAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS MEMORIAL FUND

IN CONNECTION WITH 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF 9/11

DONATIONS TO BE PRESENTED AT SEPTEMBER 11 SHOW

AT COMCAST THEATRE IN HARTFORD, CT

The Rockstar Energy Drink UPROAR Festival and tour headliners Avenged Sevenfold are working with The Rock 106.9 WCCC in Hartford, CT to raise funds in remembrance of the tenth anniversary of 9/11. To respectfully remember this day and help financially support some great foundations that have assisted firefighters, police officers and their families, the Rockstar Energy Drink UPROAR Festival and Avenged Sevenfold will make a dollar for dollar match of all donations up to $10,000 made through The Rock 106.9 WCCC from now through September 11, 2011. Donations can be made online at www.WCCC.com.

At the September 11 Rockstar Energy Drink UPROAR Festival at Comcast Theatre in Hartford, CT, checks will be presented to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (http://www.firehero.org) and the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (http://www.nleomf.com).

The United States Congress created the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation to lead a nationwide effort to remember America’s fallen firefighters. Since 1992, the tax-exempt, nonprofit foundation has developed and expanded programs to honor our fallen fire heroes and assist their families and coworkers. Their mission is to honor and remember America’s fallen fire heroes and to provide resources to assist their survivors in rebuilding their lives. They offer support programs for survivors, award scholarships to fire service survivors, help departments deal with line-of-duty deaths, and work to prevent line-of-duty deaths. www.firehero.org

The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund is dedicated to honoring all of America’s law enforcement heroes–those who continue to serve and protect and those who have died in the line of duty, including the officers who lost their lives on September 11th. That mission is accomplished through the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC, as well as programs such as Officer of the Month, Officer Roll Call and others. Today in the United States, some 900,000 law enforcement officers put their lives on the line for the safety and protection of others. The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund invites you to learn more about the heroes of American law enforcement and join us in respecting, honoring and remembering them. www.nleomf.com

This marks the second year that the Rockstar Energy Drink UPROAR Festival has joined forces with Child Find of America.  “We’re incredibly honored that the Rockstar Energy Drink UPROAR Festival is continuing their partnership with Child Find of America in 2011,” said Mark Delluomo, Director of Operations, Child Find of America, Inc. “Last year’s tour promoted safety and awareness as well as raising over $40,000 which went directly to program costs. All of us at Child Find are very grateful to the producers, bands and fans who so generously contributed. We’re also excited that UPROAR has given us another opportunity to let thousands of rock fans know more about us through their website, programs and press releases. Traffic to Child Find’s website and Facebook cause page spiked over the course of the tour and continues to be vigorous. Many people still don’t realize Child Find not only investigates and resolves cases, but also has programs that work to promote safety and prevent abductions. For example, we’re really proud of the Parent Help and Parent Help for Military Families programs which are designed to help dads and moms parenting apart to problem-solve their challenges – including such issues as visitation, custody and child support. This kind of publicity can change all that.”

0 Three Days Grace – Life Starts Now (2009)

  • · CD Reviews Q-Z · Entertainment · Hard Rock Music · Hard Rock Videos · Music · Video

With motifs of alienation, anger, animosity, and vengeance, Life Starts Now is a demanding album designed to help unleash the pain within. This is nothing new for Three Days Grace, whose two previous albums (Three Days Grace and One-X) all deliver similar messages of living a hard life and not being happy about it. While not much has changed in the way of songs for album number three, sometimes staying the same is a good thing.

Life Starts Now picks up right where their previous album left off. Heavy, grunge metal guitars dominate the record, setting the tone and pace for what’s to come. Bitter Taste kicks off the anger, a song about putting up with too much for too long and not wanting to deal with it anymore. It’s a tune of ultimate revenge, erasing the bitter taste from life (presumably a girl and a relationship that really soured). Bitter Taste starts the album and let’s everyone know what’s to come.

Adam Gontier’s vocals are still rough and harsh, providing the dark edge to the emo-induced songs on Life Starts Now. His scratchy throat, reminiscent of Papa Roach’s Jacoby Shaddix, bring the power to allow the listener feel the pain. The darkness surrounding his vocal chords is clear on all of the songs and help to reinforce the structures of the tracks. Life isn’t all peaches and cream, and we’d all do well to remember that. Three Days Grace is doing their best to remind us.

One song of note is World So Cold which sounds like a Hall & Oates song that was reformed and reshaped into a heavy, dark, rock track. If slowed down and sung in a higher key, Daryl Hall would be able to take this track and make it a monster hit for the power pop duo. It’s most noticeable in the chorus and makes me wonder if Three Days Grace listened to Hall & Oates when they were younger.

Songs like Break and The Good Life revisit the subject matter of doing whatever is necessary to overcome the darkness that is locked inside of everyone’s individual world. The necessity to break away and rise above from the crap that life throws at us all is well documented and accounted for. If you’re not happy with what you have and where you are in life, you need to break away and rise above with the inner strength that each of us possess.

While not breaking any new ground musically or lyrically, Three Days Grace have still delivered a solid rock record in Life Starts Now. If you’re a fan of their previous albums, then you’re going to love this one. If you’re not a fan, then you might want to stay away from Life Starts Now.
