Tokyo Blade have made the first track from their new studio album Thousand Men Strong available for FREE download from their website.

Until Wednesday 13th April, the piledriving album opener ‘Black Abyss’ will be free to download and keep as an MP3 from www.tokyoblade.com.

Additionally, previews of all tracks on the album are also available with the site’s media player.

0 Chris Tsangarides Talks About Producing the New Tokyo Blade Album, “Thousand Men Strong”

Tokyo Blade’s new studio album Thousand Men Strong is due for release on March 18th 2011 and for those who’ve already heard samples it’s clear that unlike for previous releases, no corners have been cut in the recording process.

Determined to give their patient fans the best listening experience possible, the band enlisted the services of legendary Grammy-nominated producer Chris Tsangarides. His pedigree in Heavy Metal circles is unquestionable with artists such as Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Thin Lizzy, Gary Moore, Ian Gillan, Helloween, Killing Joke and Yngwie Malmsteen to name just a few, trusting in his skills and vast experience at the desk.

However even great producers need the essential raw materials before they can begin to weave their magic as CT explains.

“Working with a band like Blade is the real deal only this time I think they’ve got it right. Great songs, great performances and finally a great vocalist joining forces shows what a producer and a band that’s on the same page can do!”

“We’ve made a record we can all be proud of!”

Praise indeed.

The current Tokyo Blade line-up includes four of the five original members, Andy Boulton (guitar), Andy Wrighton (bass), John Wiggins (guitar) and Steve Pierce (drums) and is completed by powerhouse vocalist Nicolaj Ruhnow.

0 TOKYO BLADE’S ANDY BOULTON GETS THE BIRD

Tokyo Blade were forced to postpone rehearsals for their upcoming tour as guitarist Andy Boulton, a keen falconer (seen below with an American Harris hawk) has badly damaged his hand after an incident with a Golden Eagle.

Andy said “she flew to me as usual, but when she landed and gripped her talons went straight through the gauntlet and completely through my bloody left hand! ”

“When an eagle grips it locks it’s talons and there is no way of releasing it until the bird decides to let go. Not wanting to hurt her I just had to wait”  A quick trip to hospital and several stitches later Andy laughed and said “it was my own stupid fault’ I had the wrong gauntlet for an eagle but it won’t stop me flying my birds . . . . I love it.”

Tokyo Blade are due to release their new studio album Thousand Men Strong worldwide on March 18th 2011 through Fastball Records.

The current Tokyo Blade line-up includes four of the five original members, Andy Boulton (guitar), Andy Wrighton (bass), John Wiggins (guitar) and Steve Pierce (drums) and is completed by powerhouse vocalist Nicolaj Ruhnow.

1 PIONEERS OF NWOBHM TOKYO BLADE ANNOUNCE NEW STUDIO ALBUM, “THOUSAND MEN STRONG”

Reformed pioneering NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal) band Tokyo Blade release their brand new studio album entitled Thousand Men Strong worldwide on March 18th, 2011.

Lead guitarist & founder member Andy Boulton said:

“We’re viewing ‘Thousand Men Strong’ as our third album, or rather the album that should have been, so to speak. It’s the natural follow-up to 1984’s ‘Night Of The Blade’ as all the songs hark back to the glory days of NWOBHM.”

“We deliberately recorded the whole thing in a very live manner and in about a week, just like a lot of albums were recorded back in the early ’80s. No keyboards, no bullshit — just 100% heavy metal.”

Produced by Grammy-nominated producer Chris Tsangarides (Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Thin Lizzy), the album contains nine brand new tracks plus a reworking of the anthemic title track from the aforementioned ‘Night Of The Blade’.

The 2011 Tokyo Blade line-up includes four of the five original members, Andy Boulton (guitar), Andy Wrighton (bass), John Wiggins (guitar) and Steve Pierce (drums) and is completed by powerhouse vocalist Nicolaj Ruhnhow.

3 SKIN – S/T (1994)

SKIN CDCoverA band that I recently discovered through the live streaming of the Download Festival a couple of weeks ago is the band SKIN. I enjoyed their live set, and had to learn more about this band.

Who is SKIN?  Myke Gray and Andy Robbins are former members of the bands, Tokyo Blade and Jagged Edge.  Neville MacDonald is the former singer from the band Kooga.  When these guys got together to form SKIN, there was no market for this type of music.  This is probably why I missed them the first time around.  Nonetheless, I am glad to hear them for this first time in 2009.   This is a really cool band that has a sound that reminds me of a cross between Thunder and possibly Extreme.  Neville MacDonald has an awesome voice that truly powers the songs on this disc.It blows my mind that I have not heard him sing before now. Myke Gray’s guitar work is a pleasure to listen to as well.  If you listen closely, you can even hear current Warrant front man, RRRsmall5Robert Mason signing back up vocals on this CD.

The Bottom Line:  You won’t find a bad song on SKIN’s debut. If you like the videos below, you need to seek out a copy of this disc. You wont be disappointed. There are several great songs including “Colourblind”, “Look But Don’t Touch”, “Tower of Strength” and “Raised on Radio”.

For more information on SKIN, check them out on myspace at this link or at the band’s website here. The only place I could find a copy of this CD at a semi reasonable price was through Amazon France.  It is well worth the import price!  Highly Recommended!
