Hardcore Superstar – Dreamin’ In A Casket (2007)
I’ve always liked Hardcore Superstar but in saying that, I’ve never thought they were anything to rave about, not bad but not especially fantastic either. Their releases up until the 2005 self titled album were likeable but fairly average at best. ‘Dreamin’ In a Casket’ is quite different to the Hardcore Superstar I’d become familiar with. This is much heavier sounding, in your face rock and I like it.
The first thing I noticed were the massive drums on this disc. In fact overall the musicianship is far superior and improved than any of their other undertakings; aggressive drums, big riffs, great solos, strong choruses and Jocke Berg’s vocals are at his high-pitched best. ‘Dreamin in a Casket’ kicks their earlier albums’ asses all the way to Sweden and back.
‘Silence For the Peacefully’ is reminiscent of Hardcore’s great anthem ‘We don’t Celebrate Sundays’. ‘Wake Up Dead In The Garbagecan’ is a killer track and I’d like to hear more of the gang vocals that are present on ‘Wake Up Dead’ on more songs where they are lacking slightly. Title track ‘Dreamin In a Casket’ is another great tune.
Of course nothing is perfect and some of these songs sound similar to one another, but they still pretty much all rock. They could also use a little help in the lyrics department but now I’m just being picky.
Superb and sleazy energetic rock. All in all a great effort from these guys.
