Jetboy – Off Your Rocker (2010)
The long-awaited new tunes from Jetboy are finally here! If you attended the M3 Festival in 2009, and saw Jetboy perform, you got a preview of the band’s first new tunes in several years. Jetboy was easily the best band on the second stage, and the new songs were quite impressive. I have been waiting to get my hands on them ever since.
This EP has three new studio cuts, and three live songs.
The opening track “Perfectly Wrong” oozes the style of classic Aerosmith, while maintaining the feel of Jetboy. This song is an absolute monster. If you aren’t hooked after hearing Fernie Rod and Billy Rowe dish out the riffs on this tune, your headphones must have a short in them.
“Going Down (Above The Clouds)” was one of my favorites from M3. This song has a cool southern rock vibe, with some super catchy lyrics.
“Dogs Gotta Roam” exudes L.A. sleaze from its hard rockin’ exterior. This song sounds like it is a lost track from 1988 without sounding dated. This is another cool rocker from the Jetboy camp.
“High Gear” and “Crank it Up” are from the hard to find 1998 CD, Make Some More Noise. The live version of “High Gear” absolutely rips. I love hearing Billy Rowe going to town on the slide guitar on “Crank It Up”. “Losin’ Streak” is a song from the band’s demo album, A Day In The Glamourous Life. It is one of Jetboy’s earlier tunes, and good to hear it recorded live.
If Off Your Rocker is any example of what a new CD from Jetboy will sound like, then I need a new album from these guys as soon as possible.
