Danko Jones – We Sweat Blood (2003)
Canadian, Danko Jones has been putting new music out since 1998, but it is still largely unknown in the United States.
We Sweat Blood, is Jones’ second full length release (they now have four ). The beauty of Danko Jones music is in its simplicity. This Toronto trio isn’t breaking any new ground with their music, but they can certainly craft some catchy tunes.
Most tunes are focused around a funky bass groove and an upbeat drum rhythm, and Danko Jones unique vocals. Throw in some basic AC/DC, guitar riffs, and you can pretty much figure out the basic sound of this band.
Danko Jones vocal style sounds like a blend of Jimi Hendrix and Lenny Kravitz pureed in a blender full of punk rock.
The tunes on We Sweat Blood have a funky groove and the kind of energy that would translate well when the band performs the songs live. Some of my favorite cuts are Forget My Name, Hot Damn Woman and I Want You.
If you are looking for some new upbeat tunes to get your summer rocking, give We Sweat Blood a look. You can get copies of this disc for very little money, off of Amazon.com.
